Absolutely wonderful country diner. We used to stop by on every trip through southern WA, but now live a little closer and made a point of coming down. Previously we only ever did that on rare occasion and for the fried chicken, specifically. Sadly that is no longer on the menu... even though everyone I know loved it. People talked about it even up in the Seattle area. Sad, although admittedly the rest of the menu is also delicious. The staff are always friendly and you're always greeted by a rooster at the door. This place almost gets 5 stars from me. They've kept the decor country over the years and the gratuitous country attitude and delicious country food we love. I just pine for that good old fried chicken. Please bring it back, and I'll give you 5 stars. Deal? I sure hope so. read more

This has always been a favorite on our way from Seattle to Portland. I miss their buffet, but their delicious menu makes up for it being gone. The service, food and atmosphere is worth returning to. We take our friends as well. Everyone is pleased and it is a nice break on a three hour road trip. I always sneak into the outlets next door. If you need a meal to hold you over to Thanksgiving their turkey dinner will hit the spot! read more

My wife and I went in for breakfast last Saturday, 1/17 around 9:30. It looked crowded so we expected to wait to be seated. We were seated as soon as we walked in and we were excited to eat there as I told my wife years ago we used to stop here on our way to Portland for breakfast. The server didn't greet us with hello but "what can I get you to drink." When she returned, I ordered the bisquits and gravy with hash browns and my wife ordered pancakes and eggs. I couldn't eat the B&G, the gravy tasted like it was out of a can, bland and no sausage but little specs of something, cream of mushroom soup would have had more flavor (IMO). The hash browns were good, nice and crispy so I ate those. My wife said the pancakes were rubbery, maybe microwaved. She ate the eggs and left most of the pancakes. The server never came back to see how the meal was and at one point we were guessing she went on break because she wasn't seen. I never had a refill on my drink, down to ice cubes. When she did come she saw I only took one bite of the B&G and asked if I wanted a box and I said no. We had been waiting for several minutes for the check and she said you pay up front. That was our server, maybe a bad day. Terrible food, I didn't know you could screw up breakfast so bad then the customer service was unacceptable. I usually tip 20% because it's usually not the server but in this case the food was bad and there was no service. It's not like I remembered it. $38 for bad food and service is way too much of my money to give this business. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at this place! We had been in the area hitting up the outlet stores and didn't feel like Mexican (why are there so many Mexican restaurants within just a few blocks here?!?!) so we thought we'd give this place a try. It's quirky, but clean. It has a very random gift shop and a bar that looks like no one ever goes in, but the restaurant itself is fun. Decorated in a country/farm-ish decor that's clearly purposeful but trying to appear random. The menu is decent, your basic hometown diner type of stuff. Breakfast served all day, I think you can probably get anything with a side of gravy, etc. There is lots of staff so service is quick. Very quick. But everyone seemed pleased to be there working so that's a plus. We both had the mushroom burger with a veggie patty and it was a really good, not fancy, edition of a classic. Fries were crispy and hot. Bun was soft, toppings fresh and plentiful without being overdone, the patty was very yummy as well. All in all it was really good! read more

Lori is by far the best server! It's been a while since we've been in so I'm not sure if she's retired or not but we love her. The food is always delicious I am a sucker for the turkey, potatoes and stuffing with the cranberry sauce. My daughters love the grilled cheese. During the summer they have DOLE whip deserts and drinks they are my favorite. read more

It's like Cracker Barrel but less racist! Decor is crowded with old barnwood, dusty antiques and a small shop with country decor. Food was good but nothing special. Everything came with fries because a side salad was $3 extra. We asked for side sauces and were given small condiment cups half full, snd not told that they were a .60 charge each. Service was nice enough but nobody went out of their way to be extra friendly. The cashier was the lamest duck but heck, maybe they don't get paid well. Loved the chicken coop outside. read more

She brings it out to me and it has olives on there I'm deadly allergic to olives so she takes it back and she brings a new one. Went here randomly on our way down to Portland and man did we hit the jackpot. The food was amazing. I thought it was going to be a like every other breakfast joint but they definitely surprised our party of 4. I had the veggie omelette And the vegetables were cooked so perfectly. Came from out of town. Nice ambiance, what I'd expect for the establishment type. Upon entry it reminded me of a mini Cracker Barrel with the small gift shop next to the host booth and the decorations about the restaurant. Host was quick to get us seated and drinks. Server pleasant and good came out in a timely fashion for there being quite a few people already sitting; attentive, friendly and polite. We ordered the 1lb fried shrimp and fries, mushroom and Swiss burger, biscuits and country gravy with two eggs and kids chicken nugget meal. I had asked if there was just a biscuits and gravy with eggs option and was told yes; upon getting the check I saw the eggs charged (for two eggs) was 3.49! Two eggs?! The biscuits were ok but the gravy had bacon along with sausage and the bacon flavor was so overpowering I couldn't eat it. If it had tasted like quality bacon flavoring maybe, but this seemed like perhaps the gravy had been made with the grease from the bacon along with some bits of bacon. The shrimp was a bit on the oily side and could have used a little extra drain time. In place of the biscuits and gravy I went with the BLT; this was a good sandwich with the only real complaint being the use of shredded lettuce making it a mess to eat. The menu stated the two eggs added was $1.99, so I had assumed that was what I was getting, I wasn't aware until after getting the check that I'd been charged almost twice as much for the same amount of eggs. I also noticed the fries had a bit of a fishy taste to them and confirmed with the waitress that the oil used for the fries is the same as it is for fish. Thankfully I don't have allergies but the next person might. The other odd thing was they charge a fee of almost $2 to use payments other than cash. Wouldn't recommend unless you don't like the other available options or have no other options. Won't be returning. read more

Country Cousin is practically a Centralia landmark. It's been there forever.... And it always seems to be packed. We recently had lunch here on a Sunday afternoon and we were concerned that we would have to wait a long time since every table was full but we only waited about 5 minutes.... For a party of 7.... Which was a pleasant surprise. The menu selection is very typical of a ma-and-pop type restaurant. You will find all your usual favorites. The food was pretty good and the portions were very large. The service was excellent. For as busy as the place was the staff did an amazing job of getting our orders taken in a timely manner and we didn't wait long for the food. Not anything they can control but is a huge family favorite so there are usually a lot of kids parents just let act crazy. But other wise the food is great! I'm partial to the deep fried pickle spears. In March I always go for corned beef and cabbage. The beats and gold fish on their house salad is super fun. The staff is friendly even when they are just slammed. Like any human mistakes can happen and they have bad days too but over all they are pretty good at keeping up beat! The food is great! Kitchen staff are on point here, they pump out orders faster than the disorganized staff can bring it to you. That's really my only gripe, the young girls seating people have resting B!t#* faces and are not welcoming. The waiters try, but just don't get being polite. Not mean, just not welcoming. I like this place, the food is good, bur service is way off. They really need some training in customer service and better leadership with organizational skills. Oh country cousin you have stolen my heart! Not only is the food incredible but the service is great too. The fun rustic cowboy setting stays true to their name and feel of the restaurant. I had the biscuits and gravy, it was delicious. Large portions usually leave you with yummy leftovers to bring home. They have a saloon bar area to enjoy adult beverages. This place is so themed even down to the restrooms, it's awesome! Outside located near the parking lot there even have chickens in a coop to look at. Super friendly place! We stopped here on our way to a White Pass ski vacation and by the time we hit Centralia we were VERY hungry! It was nice that breakfast was still being served. We inquired about their Corned Beef Hash (always searching for a good CBH!) and we were told it was homemade. Ok..we'll have that, thanks! I also ordered a side house salad. Our waitress explained that they put beets and goldfish crackers on the salad...would that be ok with me? Seriously? How could I say no! The salad was super cute and very fresh and tasty. I love beets so that was a really nice treat. The CBH arrived and it was pretty good. Not hugely memorable but it was NOT the "dog food" kind that comes out of a can. The biscuit, honestly, was disappointing. I gave it a taste and decided it wasn't anything special, so I decided to pass. Hubby ended up finishing it because he was still hungry...apple butter was ok, too. I would have preferred a choice of jam. Bottom line: service was good, food was tasty, but not spectacular. Having said that, I'd probably go back again if I was in the area and give something else from the menu a try. read more

This is a large restaurant that's been here for many, many, years. We've stopped in here, sporadically, for more than 20 years. Each time we stop in I think more and more that the place could just use a good cleaning. From the carpets to the window sills and everywhere else, it just needs a deep cleaning. The food is pretty average but it's served hot and as expected. Today we ordered cups of clam chowder, the chicken pot pie and a French dip sandwich with mashed potatoes. The chowder was thick with nice chunks of potatoes and veggies added in. Th pot pie was very average and not very flavorful. It needed quite a bit of salt and pepper to add some flavor to it. The French dip had decent roast beef on it. I added cheese and onions for an extra charge. If it hadn't been slightly soggy it would have been better. Not the best but not terrible either. The mashed potatoes I chose as the side for my sandwich were not good at all. They were glue consistency and the gravy added to them was disgusting. I even tried to scoop the gravy off to just eat the potatoes but the potatoes weren't even worth it. Our server was very friendly and checked on us a couple of times through our meal. We didn't wait significantly long for our food and we received drink refills once while eating. There's a little store filled with touristy type items in the front of the store and a full bar on the opposite side of the building from the restaurant. We always make a stop in the bar on our way out to do pull tabs. The bartenders are definitely not very friendly here. They'll act like you're bothering them by asking for a beer and pull tabs. If you don't mind the attitude you'll get the pull tabs are a fun little side stop. I doubt we'll stop back in for food but we might stop back in for a drink and pull tabs some time. read more

Have always been curious about this place because we always pass it when we're checking out the outlets. When you walk in, a rooster crow announces your presence which was kinda charming. Finally went in and it's kinda like The Cracker Barrel, only not as fun because they don't have all the candy and toys, but that's okay. The food was pretty solid. Sis liked her steak, the crispiness of the hash brown, and the toast. I had the 300 pancakes, which was a lot, and it was really great because they give you two big lumps of real butter, not margarine, so you can actually taste the food. The servers aren't all that friendly, but so what. We had fun overhearing a pastor talling to his friend as they ate breakfast and that guy knows his Bible verses, so much respect. Just had one question? Why is the disabled parking so far away from the door? I wasn't using it, but that was weird. It looks like there is outside seating for when they have overflow, so that would begood for the dog owners, but beware, there's only one spacein parking lot with shade,so you might not wantto bring the pup on a hot day if you plan on eating inside. read more

The biscuit was nice and the scrambled eggs were also a fine accompaniment. Plus, the pulled pork sandwich special was solid with beautifully cooked fries. This was a big miss in every way. To start off, the attempt at charm was grating and offputting. Every time, one of the many double doors opens, a very loud, mechanical rooster crows. I'm sure that the aim was to give an ambience of a farmhouse kitchen, but it only served to startle and annoy throughout the experience. The entryway full of knickknacks seemed to be some Cracker Barrel style country store, but it was honestly a mess that left little space to actually cash out and made that process confusing and uncomfortable. I came in on a Sunday morning over a holiday weekend. It was fairly early, but there was plenty of space. They sat me at the very first table, right next to the front door, and directly across from a family with a loud and active child. It's fine that this is a family restaurant and you will have loud active children, that is to be expected. But when you have so many open tables, perhaps don't seat a solo adult right next to that family. It was also incredibly clear that the server was not happy to be working this Sunday morning. Her expression, her voice, and her overall attitude about taking orders and dropping off food made it clear. So the service was nothing to speak of. I ordered what seemed would be a safe bet for the style of restaurant: biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, two eggs over medium. The biscuits were not fresh, and in fact seemed cold and stale. The gravy was piping hot and had the gelatinous consistency of "definitely out of a can." While I appreciate that the egg yolks were still runny, the egg whites were also still clear and undercooked. The hashbrowns were somehow burnt on the outside and undercooked (mushy) in the middle. The coffee was adequate. It took me all of three minutes to eat four or five bites of food and decide it wasn't worth it. I told them I was not satisfied. They charged me full price. read more

I decided to stop here for breakfast on my trip from Tacoma, since I was here anyway visiting the wholesale mall next door. First thing you see off to the right of the entrance is a chicken run with, you guessed it, chickens! Three in all, just cackling away. It's both charming and a way to catch a preview of tomorrow's dinner. Anyway, I went inside, was greeted and seated promptly a friendly server and ordered the Denver omelette. Not only was it belly-busting big but it was delicious..and the coffee that I ordered to go with it was sublime. It's very hard to get good coffee at most restaurants but this was good enough to make the founder of Starbucks cry. Everything you get here is a little pricey, but that's to be expected with a family restaurant. I hope they keep up the good work, I intend to dine here again before too long..oh, and keep that great coffee coming! read more

The first thing I have to say about this place, pray you never have to wait to be seated! The waiting area is located just inside the building and every time the door opens an extremely annoying " crowing of a rooster" goes off! I repeat every time the door opens! Second the food is good! I've been there for breakfast many times! Their corned beef hash and eggs are scratch made and delicious! This last time there I ordered pancakes, ham and eggs! The food tasted great EXCEPT they give the cheapest silverware to use! Basically it's one small step up from cheap plastic ware! When a fork can't cut off a bite of pancake, the dining experience becomes a CHORE, My opinion? Great food, bring your own silverware and earplugs for the rooster! Granted we still enjoyed our meal. And the server was super nice. I've tried several different things here. Never disappointed. Never! We will still come here every time. Fun little store inside.
