It has been years since I have been to this local donut joint. My daughter used to do karate in this strip so stopping in when she was little was often. A treat when she had a good session. My son and I finished having brunch down the road. We were both bummed that my husband couldn't join see we decided to get him a sweet treat. The way to make everything better for my husband is a good apple fritter. Apple fritters make everything better. The size of these donuts are the first thing you see. I don't remember these donuts being so big! There were some round ones the size of a salad plate. It honestly would be fun to have this huge donut for a first birthday photo. Shoot, I would love to have this huge donut for my birthday! I couldn't get over the fact at how glorious these donuts looked. They were all delicious looking! There were plenty of huge apple fritters! No need to ever be concerned about this joint running out. There was 3 big trays worth. Maybe this joint is known for their apple fritters. Plenty of stock on hand. The sweet girl behind the counter grabbed the five that I asked for and got them all packaged up. One for my husband. And of course some for my boys and in laws. Country Donuts did not mess around with these apple fritters. They were perfectly fried on the outside, golden and crispy. So soft in the middle. A hint of cinnamon to make it warm. Chunks of apple throughout the fritter. This pastry did not lack on the glaze, every inch of that baby was covered. Everything about that fritter was fabulous! I guess it's good that this shop is clear across town from where I live. I would become a diabetic if I lived closer. We do have a couple local bakeries by us but they aren't pushing fritters out like this. It was cool coming in and grabbing a sweet treat for my husband. Even though it is an older shop, don't let the hole in the wall look deter you from coming. Shops like this usually push out the best products. Freshness seems to have dropped since we first stated visiting a year or so ago. We don't go often (and usually just for take-out), but the last couple of trips, donuts have seemed 'day old'. Service is often friendly and prices are fine, would just love to see oven-fresh deliciousness return. read more

I'm officially a donut snob. I've tried every donut place in the valley many times and I eat donuts wherever I go. My fave donuts here at home are definitely at country donuts. Best cake donuts I've had anywhere. Crispy outers, soft centers. Fritters are fire. Voodoo (and maybe Scottie's) have the best raised donuts. Love their hours and prices. Other places have more expensive and fancier looking donuts but none nearly as good. Service and ambiance leaves a little to be desired but I'm in and out so no biggie. It's the donuts that bring me back over and over. Honorable mentions in the valley are Scottie's and DK (downtown). Rosauers had a great bakery but too bad they didn't stay. read more

Ahhh man. Super bummed out. We came around 3:30pm on a Sunday and they had about 20 donuts. We asked if they would have more so we could wait and they told us that was it. We went ahead and got 4 donuts because we felt kinda bad just walking out. My husband went to order coffee and as they were pouring it, it ran out. The young man said they had no more to which my husband said "don't you close at 8pm? Will you be making more?" To which he answered "ummmm no. That's it." We will never be coming back again. I had a large donut order and then tried to order an espresso. Big mistake. I literally ordered the small plain espresso off their menu, but that was very difficult. They asked if I wanted an Americano. I said no, and they asked if I wanted a latte. I said no, I kept saying that I just wanted an espresso small then they started asking. We have been going to Country Donuts for years. My husband loves their maple bars and I love the chocolate covered donuts with crème filling. Walked in and no one acknowledged me, no greeting or customer service. Even though there were 3 employees right in front. One of which was on his phone. Waited a few minutes before they told me they would be right with me. Service could have been better. Ordered 4 different donuts. They tasted very oily and crispy. All the donuts were very flat and dense, not airy or fluffy. Overall flavor and quality was not as good as expected. Also--after I was done being served I saw another customer come in and the same employee that served me had taken off his hat, ran his hand through his entire head of hair, then immediately after grabbed a bakery tissue paper to get the customer's donuts. Ok so I'm honestly surprised I haven't written a review for here yet. Legit thought I wrote one a few years ago right after my first visit. This place is awesome!! Literally never disappoints. I'm always in search of the best doughnuts in any city I live in or visit and I'm ALWAYS wanting a blueberry jelly doughnut. Soooooo many places don't carry them and honestly, that's just dumb af. My dad, when I was a kid, that was his favorite doughnut. So I, as a wee boy, fell in love with them and for like 30+ years they've been my favorite. Country Doughnuts is the only place I know of that has them and they are phenomenal!!! Omg so good! I've of course had their other doughnuts as well. Can't write a review based off of ONE doughnut even though it would be very easy because they are that great here! The place is small, always stocked with tons of doughnuts and the prices are very similar to any other bakery...even though Boise lacks big time in a variety of bakeries. It's really odd, tbh. Every 3 months, I have a doctors appointment up off of Eagle and Franklin. When that happens, I ALWAYS stop at Country Doughnuts as a treat to myself. I USUALLY TRYYY to watch what I eat. That's why this is an every 4 months type of treat UNLESS...I'm randomly in the area then I absolutely have to stop hahaha! The people are always so incredibly nice. I have yet to meet a not-so-nice person there lol. You seriously cannot go wrong with Country Doughnuts. 5 Stars is easy to give to this place. I absolutely love it and I know anyone would love this place and their doughnuts. Hands down, my favorite bakery. I have one other favorite that was number 1, but I either tied that with this place or bumped it to number 2, but shhh don't tell them because I love all the ladies who work at the other place haha! This place always makes me happy! I here again to grab some donuts for my husband and I (the bavarian crèmes are his absolute favorite). I had a very delicous Tiger Tail that was about the size of my fore arm. These always send my tastebuds to heaven. There's always a perfect amount of frosting and there's just enough mini chocolate chips added in for extra flavor. Also tried a very yummy cherry frosted donut. I went in today and bought 5 donuts. They were packed in a brown paper bag and by the time I walked out the door to my car the bag was soaked in grease. The donuts had no flavor except grease - and cloyingly sweet grease at that. I'm not sure they preheated the oil to fry the donuts or just tossed dough in to soak up rancid grease, but one donut each has made my hubby and I queasy all day. I threw the other 3 out, they were TERRIBLE. Will never go back. read more

I'm partial and while I know some feel the business is cold at times, I think they need to understand that this shop has been open pretty much the entire pandemic and provided great service and, let's be honest, darn good donuts! I go once a week with my youngest daughter. Whether we go in and pick out a donut or I pick them up, the ladies always ask how we're doing and treat us like royalty. Keep in mind, this is a small shop that works their tail off to provide a great product and good service, even in the face of unruly customers which I've seen numerous times. I came here because I've heard good things over the years. Just walked in and walked right out about 30 seconds later. The brunette lady was in the back on her cell phone...takes a few seconds to acknowledge me and then says "be right there". In the next few moments while I'm deciding what donuts to get, I'm looking around at the back and this place is absolutely filthy. I can't imagine anyone would consider this a hygienic environment to make food in. So while the donuts did look good behind the smudged glass, I couldn't stomach feeding them to anyone knowing where they were made. read more

I typically like to wait to review a place after I've tried it a time or two.. however, this is one place I had to make an exception for. First off, I'm typically not a donut fan. One or two donut holes is usually all I need or want. Today though, a donut just sounded good. I finally decided to give country donuts a try and holy cow am I so glad I did. They have so many varieties of donuts as well as pastries to chose from! My typical "go-to's" are an old fashion (which I think they also call a buttermilk) as well as a glazed. Boring, I know... but like I said, I'm typically not super big in donuts. I placed my standard order and added a few on that I thought my husband and I would enjoy over the day. I ate my old fashion first and It was incredible. It wasn't overly sweet and had a wonderful crunch to it. Second, I had my glazed when I got home and it was like eating a sweet cloud of greatness. Wasn't overly glazed and the donut itself was incredibly light and fluffy. I am walking away from the rest... because I did get them for my husband and I to SHARE. Upon arriving, there's multiple doors but all have signs to go to the next one, which is kind of annoying but it is what it is. Upon entering we were greeted, if you want to call it that by the lady behind who the counter, who did not seem to be happy to be there as we felt rushed by her in making our selections, all while she was somewhat yelling at a kid who was a customer with his parents, which we didn't understand as the kid was not being unruly or acting up. Anyhow, we purchased our donuts and sat outside to eat them. The donuts were nothing special so between that and the service, I don't recommend Country Donuts as Boise offers other options. read more

I wish I had taken pictures!! I called County Donuts at 0645 on a Sunday morning needing 15 dozen (yes 15) to bring to work!!. They were not sure they could do more than 10 dozen, but when I got there, they were able to fill the entire request. Rock stars at the last minute for helping get tasty fresh, yummy, and HUGE treats to our Saint Alphonsus weekend colleagues. My son is a regular Country Donuts customer, and we love all the different donuts, bars, etc. I am so thankful for this local business and their wonderful treats. read more

I dislike writing bad reviews but I swear every time we go in here it gets worse and worse. The staff is rude, I'd you take more than a few seconds to decide what donut you want the girl behind the blunter acts like you're annoying her, they rush you and seem annoyed with all questions. The place is absolutely filthy, no bathroom, half the doors don't work, and half the store seems to be used for lunch that's no longer available? Behind the counter and in front is SO dirty, I really don't understand how they're open and passing any health inspections. The donuts are decent, nothing special but not horrible. read more
