The place I usually get my cat food was out of the food I usually feed my kitty so I decided to come here. No one was at the register when I walked in. The interior was very country like and no frills. I noticed they did have a lot of the better quality dog and cat food here. I picked up what I needed. The food was higher than what I usually pay. I did like that they have two cats in the store to pet. The cashier was not very friendly. I will probably not be back. read more

I try always to support small local businesses but this place tested that habit and even nearly stretched my manners. The manager and two staffmember have been inexplicably rude and unhelpful to me twice now. The issue is really basic and not a major concern but when I tried to explain it to the manager she looked me right in the eye and did this weird, wicked little laugh. Okay, I shrug that off and try again to explain that I want to help her clear up a communication snafu that is really off-putting to customers. But she just slowly and mockingly repeated the same offense that her teenaged cashiers had been making. If my kids ever spoke to anyone with that tone or rolled their eyes that way they would be grounded. I would definitely never hire any staff that seemed remotely capable of it. The short version: They sell baby chicks and lots of supplies, feed, coops, etcetera. I bought 2 last week along with all their goodies and I love them. So, before they get too old to welcome new friends, I went back to get 3 more (and of course more feed, waterers, etcetera). Not once, not twice, but THREE times I arrived only to be told that it was too late in the day to get any birds. Each time I was understanding and asked, 'Okay, when must I arrive?". Each time I was told something different: The day I arrived at 5:45 "Oh we DO close at 6:00 but we already put the chicks away for the night, its better to get here at 5:30". No problem, totally understandable but it is not necessary to roll your eyes at me. Next day I rush to arrive at 5:30 and was told: "Who ever said you can get chickens at 5:30? Come closer to 5:00". Okay.....all rudely handled so far but hey, they must start work early and work long hard days, right? Plus, I want my 3 new chicks to be family for the 2 that I already love, so I really want them from the same place. Then I plan my day around this adventure...get up early so I can do all my errands and go early to work. Delegate the last few tasks so I can leave really early. Zoom over to Country feed store and run in at 5:05. I am serious. A full 55 minutes before closing time with cash in hand. Denied again! It wasn't so much the refusal to make the sale that bothered me; it was the flipping around of the different times that would be acceptable and the oddly rude way it was done each time. That is what finally prompted me to ask for the manager. She then behaved worse than any of them, which explains the origin of all of it, I suppose. read more

I had to pick up a bag of Canidae dog food here because Escondido Feed didn't have any in stock and I was out. I heard that Canidae is going through some growing pains and they are having trouble meeting the demand. The good news is that Country Feed did have it in stock when no one else did. The bad news is that they were way more expensive than Escondido Feed and they do not price match. They told me that the 44 lb bag was $44 but she rang it up at $46.99 plus tax. ($50+) When I pointed that out she said that was the tax. When I reminded her that she just told me it was $44 and pointed to where the register showed $46.99 she finally changed it to $44.99. I didn't feel like pointing out to her that $44.99 and $44. Is not the same. Then I had to carry my own bag out. Escondido sells the same food for a lot less and has frequent sales. And they are super nice! read more

This place is like going to a mini petting zoo, they got pigs, Ducks, geese, rabbits all sorts of cool stuff and they even have pond plants that are real purrty. I have a tortoise that eats hay and in regular chain pet store a small bag costs about $6 bucks and it might last me a week or two, here I can buy a whole bale of the same hay and it lasts me a year for only $17.99 and they load it into my truck and everything! So in one trip here I've saved myself $139 dollars a year!! How can I not love this place? If nothing else take your kids to see the animals, kids love that stuff! read more

Ya' know, I was really hesitant to go based on all the reviews - but I needed to pickup a couple things and didn't want to drive to Escondido. So I have to tell you that I completely disagree - the customer service and friendliness from Casey at the front counter was awesome. She was friendly, happy and helpful. Of course I walked in with a friendly and happy attitude as well! Sometimes we, as customers are really grumpy and then expect to be treated great by a business - but if you take a minute to be nice to others, they will most likely be nice back ;) I will most certainly visit again! read more

This is a great business in Vista. I have been shopping here for over 30 years since they opened. I have never in all those years been disappointed in prices or service. I absolutely LOVE this store. The building on the left has the dog and cat food and treats and it's a 100 year-old building! The clerk told me it used to be a firehouse. My dogs love treats, and this store has more dog treats to offer than any other pet store in the area, and the prices are much better than most pet stores. The food they carry is high quality, very healthy options and there's lots to choose from. The staff is personable, friendly and they make you feel welcome when you come in the door. read more

I want to share with you my experience at this store today We moved into the area about a year ago. Our family was delighted to find what seemed like an honest locally-owned family store: the type of business that is hard to find and we prefer to support whever possible. We bought 6 chicks and since then have been spending about $100 a month at the store to feed them, keep them healthy and give them treats. Last week I was in their store to buy our monthly supply of food, and other items we buy once a month. Once in the store I decided to buy cracked corn as a treat because that is something I remembered we used in Mexico. Since they only had small bags in the store, I asked and was sold a larger bag, for about $12.00 or so (I don't remember the exact cost or weight, only that it was bigger than the bag you have in the store). Anyways, the regular feed and what I thought was the cracked corn bags are large bags so after I paid, someone came to my car and put them in the back. This morning, when I opened the bag of what I thought was cracked cord I discovered it was not corn but chick feed. Since I have no use for that, my chickens are adults now, I went into the store, explained the situation and asked if they could exchange it for the corn I paid for. To make a long story short, the older woman at the register said, no exchanges without a receipt especially on open bags. I explained that their employee put the wrong food in my car--it was their mistake--but she would not budge. Unfortunately I threw out the receipt Th. and my trash came Fri. so I could not prove it. Although really, from reading some of the other reviews here employees at this store are very knowledgeable and wonderful--until there is an issue at which point they send the customer you know where--just read the not-so-great-reviews here to see this is in fact true My point is that this was their employee's mistake--the guy who put the bags in my car should have checked that he had what I paid for on my receipts (they never do that). I am so disappointed by this, and not because of the $, it is nothing, but because of the principle of the thing, the fact that they think they can just send any customer who has an issue to hell, that I will not return to their store. I am sure that does not matter to them since they seem to have many many customers, yet this was simply so not ok that I had to share it. read more

I am so stoked this place is around the corner from my house. Cat is the bomb, she runs a darn good show there. The prices are reasonable and they are all extremely informed. Not going to lie, it could be better. I started my chicken adventure in the spring of 2013 and come in now and again for feed and feeders and on rarer occasions, chicks. It's great - they've got a pretty great selection of feed and there's a table smack dab by the entrance filled with all things chicken. Like other reviews have said, the cashiers leave something to be desired. They talk amongst themselves while I am waiting to be checked out or sort of zone out and respond rudely when you ask something. I've also had a 'once over' when I walk in. I would like to point out that this isn't ALL the cashiers - there's one or two that I really happen to like, but the others make me uncomfortable. Now, the guys in the back (the loaders) are pretty nice. Of the times I've gone, there was only one who didn't know anything about the chicks I was purchasing - couldn't sex 'em or tell me which breed they were, I had to ask at the front. It has its ups and downs, but it is still a nice place to drop in now and again. read more

pretty much everything you might want or need for all your critters -- we have two big dogs and five chickens so we're pretty much regulars. love the chalkboard behind the register with live inventory listing breeds and birth dates. the kids (JULIANA's 6 and WYATT's 4) treat the place like a petting zoo. they like to hang out with the ducks, chickens, geese, peacocks, rabbits, turkeys and sometimes emus. everybody's very nice and very helpful. prices are reasonable. great place to shop or just visit. read more

I visited for the first time today. I've lived in Vista for 12 years and I finally got to check this place out. I couldn't look inside their two stores for very long though because they have cats hanging around. They are very sweet and mellow, but I'm allergic. Karen the girl who worked here today is such a sweet person, absolutely helpful. They offer military discount and have so many different types of treats at good prices. Huge selection of the benefits each product offers. I've been going to the country feed store for years, mostly because it's convenient. But I'm finding a replacement store for my pet needs. I bought 4 chicks two years ago, guaranteed to be hens, but one of which turned out to be a rooster. Their policy at that time was to replace roosters, but when I went in to exchange they said they didn't have any room for roosters but they could give me a replacement chick for $5, the standard price for a Wellsummer chick. I went in last year year to buy chicken grower crumbles which they were out of. They counter person had a replacement product which was cheaper so I bought it and it turned out to be moldy. Recently, I received an email which stated "Customer Appreciation Coupon: $5.00 off of any purchase of 50.00 for the month of August. Please mention this email.: I went in, purchased $67 worth of feed, asked for the $5 coupon and was politely denied by the lady behind the counter (I believe her name is 'Cat') saying it didn't apply. ??? Maybe i'm the only one, but looking back, I don't know how they have grown. There is underlying dishonesty not suited for a country feed store. Or maybe it's just one person on the counter that puts that $5 customer appreciation coupon in her own pocket. I hope nobody else has these experiences, But it's enough to be aware to protect your animals and pocketbook. read more

My children and I had a very bad experience yesterday. As usual I go in every 3 weeks to get feed for my chickens and wear a mask inside the store but never wear it when we go see the animals in the outside opened area.. I have bought chickens and feeding supplies in the past and yesterday I had the intention of buying more chickens. Regarding the mask, no one, even the owner(man) has said anything about having to wear one in the outside opened area. Since no one has said anything we assumed it was ok. Yesterday however, a very rude lady exchanged some words with me infront of my children about not wearing a mask back there. She even said we were going to get people sick after I had told her that I didnt know we had to wear it outside. She kept talking over me and told us that we couldnt come back there anymore (she might be an employee or part of management but I am not sure). So, because she chose to treat us like this we wont come back. Attitude is KEY in customer service, but she obviously is not strong in this area. She could have just asked me to get our masks but she chose to raise her voice and be rude. I do want to point out that the employees that usually load my supplies are awesome and they have such a great attitude. Also, I want to mention that there are chickens in very bad condition, they have bold spots and are bleeding from it. I hope it gets better for them. read more

Their customer service needs some improvement. When I called to ask what their options were for poultry fencing, she told me about their metal and their plastic rolls and then when I asked about other options, she repeated the same exact options like I was a child. Then when I asked about fencing kits, she repeated a third time the same exact options, then added that I should go to another place to meet my fencing needs to try to get me to stop asking questions. Now I know they have electric poultry fencing but she not once mentioned those options! read more

Just started our venture in having fresh eggs from home. Went to another local feed store that had overcrowded, dirty, hens. They wanted to charge us $50+ starting for said hens. So we headed over to the Country Feed store to see what they had. Not only did we get hens the same age as the other stores, we got them for $15 each. You can't beat that! Not to mention their employees are pretty good about showing all the stock. Noah helped us pick out a beautiful Mottled Java and Cuckoo Maran to get started. We will definitely be coming back here for our chicken needs! read more
