You can provide excellent service, but if your attitude is condescending, don't be surprised when customers leave less-than-stellar reviews. I simply asked how long my dog would be until pickup. If the answer is anywhere from "1 hour to 3 hours or more," that's fine, just be polite about it. I understand there may only be one groomer and that they're busy, but as a customer, I booked an appointment and am trying to plan the rest of my day. I have errands to run and would appreciate a realistic estimate without the attitude. Waiting isn't even the issue. If someone had told me nicely that they were backed up, I would have been completely understanding. What bothered me was being made to feel like I was inconveniencing the staff by asking a simple question. And while we're at it, the constant pressure around tipping doesn't help. Tipping is meant to reward good service, not compensate for poor customer interactions. Had the experience been more pleasant, I likely would have tipped more generously. The groomer may do great work, but customer service starts at the front desk, and unfortunately that's where this experience fell short for me. read more

I brought my Australian Shepherd Frank here when my usual grooming spot became nearly impossible to book with, and I'm so glad I gave Petco grooming a try. Scheduling online was super easy, the pricing was clear and upfront, and the whole process felt refreshingly straightforward and honestly, I don't think they hand blow dry the pups... My Aussie really isn't a dryer fan anyways, but his stylist did do a wonderful job. He washed him, gave him a nail trim and very impressive. The shedding was done efficiently and thoughtfully and if you've ever owned an Aussie, you know that's a pretty big deal. I came at the grooming, waited for 15 minutes as the lady was busy inside with a dog. She comes out, tells me, she already had her other groomer take their lunch. So they couldn't take me in. WTH. While at the location, i called Petco at College Blvd location and they said they could take me in 2 hours later, but the guy eventually said, just to walk-in and they could take me in. I went to that Petco location STRAIGHT from this Vista Way in Oceanside Petco and...guess what. PETCO at the College Blvd, took my pet in for a quick nail trim. A middle-aged woman with straight blonde hair asked if I found everything, then insisted I show her the product, but was rude, combative, and had zero knowledge of the store's inventory. Reptiles at this big box stores are bred in mills - the equivalent of puppy mills but for reptiles. filthy cramped conditions. these stores are known to seek dead or dying Reptiles occasionally as well look elsewhere! MorphMarket is a good place or call a nearby reptile rescue. they do not properly care for these animals, using harmful substrate and keeping them too dry to shed. these animals are stressed and struggling. they also will sell you all the wrong products under the facade of a "starter kit" in which (almost) all the products that comes with it are harmful. please do your own research when buying a reptile and do not support these places! read more

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this Petco location while picking up a DoorDash order. I came in to grab a single item (dog food), and the line was already backed up with only one cashier on duty. After patiently waiting, I watched the cashier finish ringing up a couple... and then continue chatting with them for several minutes while the line stalled. After a long wait, I asked if we could keep the line moving. Instead of helping, the cashier got noticeably rude and defensive. Another employee finally opened a second register, but things got worse. I showed her the DoorDash pickup code and went to grab the item. She immediately accused me of trying to steal it, claiming I hadn't paid, despite me clearly identifying myself as a Dasher and following protocol. She became overwhelmingly rude to myself saying that "it's her job to answer questions that customers have" when really her job is to check customers out. She was standing there even after the customer had paid and was just acting like there weren't 5 other people waiting to be checked out. Then she said, "I know who you are. Now we both know who each other are," which was honestly disturbing and felt like a personal threat. When I asked for her name, she smugly said, "Caroline. I'm a manager. Go ahead and call corporate." So I did. This is not how a manager should behave, especially not toward someone coming in to do their job professionally. I've never had a store experience where I felt so disrespected, talked down to, and borderline harassed. If this is how this store treats delivery drivers, or any customer, honestly, then it deserves to be called out. Train your staff, hold them accountable, and maybe teach your managers that "customer service" doesn't mean power-tripping over the register. Avoid this store if you expect basic respect. I want to send a shout out to Petco employee Tami . I have been bringing my fur baby here since the day I adopted him. She was the 1st person who helped me get set up with a bed , crate , treats , leash etc. over the last 2 years we have come here often. Tami referred us to Petco dog training at the store , which was fabulous. She also helped me get started with the Petco veterinary and grooming services. When we visit the store she takes time to greet us remembering our names and my grandkids names also , because they love visiting the pet store. Over time she's helped us pick out bigger beds , bigger leashes and more difficult toys. She makes this chain store feel like a friendly small town shop. Don't ever use Petco / Vetco!!!!! These people are now so incompetent! After receiving a notice that my dog was due for her annual Bordetella shot, I made an appointment with Vetco (I have been going to them for my pets needs for 30 years). After six (6) text reminders over the last two weeks regarding my appointment at 10:00 a.m. (the first of the day) to get my dog a Bordetella shot I arrived at 9:50 a.m. to check in. After having been told to wait until 10:00 when the Clinic opened, I was then told that the Clinic didn't have any Bordetella vaccines and that I would have to go somewhere else for the shot! You'd think that Oksana would have been intelligent enough to let me know about the lack of vaccine before she had me wait 10 minutes or even better that someone at Vetco would have contacted me to cancel and reschedule the appointment in advance! Also, what reputable Vet Clinic doesn't have Bordetella vaccines for their FIRST APPOINTMENT OF THE DAY???? I know Petco management is going to say that Vetco is an independent company, but Petco contracts with them and lets them operate out of Petco stores, so they're just as incompetent in my eyes!!!! read more

I just wanted to compliment Laurie the dog training on what a fantastic job she does as a trainer. She is fun to work with, she has been a trainer for 30 years and it really shows. She is so good and patience with the dogs. I can get frustrated sometimes and she will take Janet from me and is able to get her to listen immediately and gets me to take a few breaths and move forward. Janet goes with her sister and we have really been having a great time training the girls. I just signed up for our 4th class, and Janet has gotten her Canine Puppy Certificate and is really doing great. I look forward to our Thursday classes and always marvel at how patience and caring Laurie is to all of the dogs. All of the other staff are very helpful and will stop and help interact or act as a distraction. Saw a mystery $6.99 Materials" charge added to bill when picking up dog. I was told that is for ALL the materials needed to groom ALL dogs. Clippers, tables etc. I have a short haired dog that just needs a bath. We should ALL be charged accordingly!!!! Classic BAIT AND SWITCH! Not Cool. Lesson learned. Dr. Naderi didn't really express any compassion even when contacting her after the sedation received for an X-ray she told us that he would be fine and that due to an enlarged liver my dog was taking longer to process/filter the medication out , I've been emailing the company to get a refund for what was done to my dog still no response. All I can say is ask questions before your dog or cat gets a MINOR procedure done. Ask what type of sedation, the side effects, the dosages they normally give for you animal get all the information you can. Dr.Pham on the other had was very sorry for our loss and even said if we had any questions she was there for us when picking up my dogs ashes. Always had a great experience at petco I've never been to their Vet or grooming so since I've been taking my cat to VCA since she was a kitten, so Im just speaking for the store and their staff. But the staff here have always been very helpful even when short staffed, they answer the phone quickly and even go out of their way to check if certain items are in stock I don't understand why the store themselves are getting such bad reviews would definitely go and try it out yourself because listening to people since most people complain about non sense and things that could've been preventative and some are complying of the store not selling certain items like they are supposed to have everything.... This location is well put together. It is clean with friendly staff. I visited the previous Oceanside location often and I do think this was a good move for them. I like that they've added a self-wash station for dogs, although I have yet to try it out... (I believe it is $15.00). It is smaller but everything is very effectively well organized...
