I went there this afternoon around 4pm for a self serve dog wash for the first time. Paid the $20 was handed a basket with 2 rolled up towels that looked dirty, an apron rolled up with dog hair all over, and a pink scrubber brush full of dog hair. I went in the dog washes area it was dirty. Both dog washes were out of shampoos and conditioner.i had my dog wet in the tub cold while we fetched an employee to come in. She opened up the box and confirmed everything was out. She went away to grab the supplies and refilled. The self serve dog wash at petco was supposed to be a convenient place with all supplies provided, and a clean area. It was the complete opposite. I do not recommend. Area is neglected and not kept up. I wish I would have taken pictures for this review. read more

This morning I stopped by Petco for a return and some new dog collars, and even though I was overwhelmed and exhausted, the staff completely turned my experience around. Ed (or Eddie) helped me with my return quickly and graciously, even without tags or a receipt. When I went to look at collars, another employee (whose name I sadly missed) kindly pointed out that the ones I had chosen might be too big for my Frenchie. She took the time to explain how to check fit--making sure you can only slip two fingers under the collar so the dog can't wiggle out. Her expertise and kindness really stood out. At checkout, Marti helped me with my purchase. On my way up I accidentally knocked over a display, but she didn't hesitate to pick everything up and still treated me kindly and patiently. She even guided me through fixing my card in the reader when I inserted it wrong. Even though I was frazzled and in a rush, she treated me with the same professionalism and friendliness as the customer before me. I just want to say thank you to the whole team at this location. They are consistently hands-on, knowledgeable, and kind. Today was no exception--I left feeling truly grateful for the help and care they showed me. OMFG! DO NOT GET SHOTS AT THEIR CLINIC. They would not give my cats a booster leukemia shot without a test. They were tested and vaxed last year. Up to date on shots. No leukemia vax without test. So I said ok and paid the extra $35 reluctantly. They hurt my little 11lb Vinnie. She won't purr. She won't eat (eating is her favorite activity.) We barely got 1 churu down her all day. She can barely walk she's in so much pain! It took 3 tries to get blood for a test she didn't need and they hurt her so badly. I'm giving her a day to recover, then i will have to go to the emergency vet. Don't go there! Spend more at a good vet. They forcefully upsell and then hurt your baby. read more

I was picking up a purchase at this location. I needed to use the restroom and it was 10 minutes before close. They told me I could not use the restroom because it was just cleaned and near closing time, even though I just bought items there for pick up. Not my first time here, but I had a really bad experience here today so I am writing this review. An employee young teens or twenties female caucasian skinny with very long straight light brown hair was very rude and aggressive. She came up behind me pushing a cart very fast right at me and made me get out of her way so I didn't get hit. I asked her a question and she snapped at me. She came back approached me from behind again and this time yelled at me and gave me the dirtiest look. I absolutely did not do anything wrong that would warrant her hateful and aggressive attitude. I really wonder why some employees here act so hysterical and angry. I would not recommend taking your pet here. No. This is not okay. It is not acceptable to be mean to customers. It is not acceptable to be mean to pets. Believe all the one star reviews. Something is very wrong here. There is a culture of abuse here. If she thinks it's okay to treat a person like this for no reason, then I wonder how they treat animals who have no voice and no recourse. Phone customer service in the San Marcos (Las Posas location) grooming department was very unpleasant today. Was hung up on 3 times. Young man in that department had a particularly rude attitude, as well as a woman by the name of Marny. Whoever is consulting and teaching their staff on how to interact with the public over the phone, is doing a terrible job. Every one can have a bad day, but they both went from bad to worse. In fairness, at other times over the years, others at that store have been helpful and professional. I will not be using their grooming department, nor will I recommend it to others I know. read more

We went to the San Marcos Petco for grooming for the first time 4/25/25 and will NEVER go back again. We stayed around the area for the duration of our pup's grooming and observed a rushed job from the groomer. Afterwards, we found cuts all over our pup's armpit areas, her stomach area, and near her private area. A small nick here and there occasionally is normal sure, but this is not acceptable. We have never gotten our pup back in this condition before from any groomer and this was distressing to discover. Our pup does not struggle during her groomings so there is no reason she should be leaving the appointment with this many cuts unless it's negligence and lack of care from the groomer's end. My dog's hair is all different lengths, did not smell like she had been washed, and not to mention she had different cuts all over her body, which upsetting . I've taken my dog here for grooming a few times, mainly because it's close to my house but I kid you not, it always takes minimum 10-15 minutes for anyone at the grooming desk to even acknowledge your existence. Plan on spending at least 30 minutes to drop off or pick up or better yet, just go elsewhere. read more

This review is for the grooming salon; however since I starting bringing my dog for grooming, I've had awesome interactions with all of the staff here. Annai is our groomer - we lucked out the first time visiting this location with her attention to detail and consistency - and we have scheduled exclusively with her since the first visit. She's so kind, always remembers me/details of my life even tho I see her once a month, and she must have hundreds of clients! She's also the first groomer we have had in a long time who delivers the same results, every time! When I pick Ollie up, he's usually been loved on by most of the staff, because he's sweet and wants all the cuddles. I hear cute stories of how much fun they all had. This always makes me feel confident that my little guy is taken care of, since everyone knows my face, and my sweet doggo. (Again, hundreds of clients!). All of the grooming staff and front desk folks are amazing, they are very customer service oriented- and I love that I can get texts reminding me of appointments and when it's time for pick up. Finally - I used to pay twice as much for less consistency, and the turnover everywhere I've tried was intense. There is very little employee turnover in grooming at this location, and that speaks to how well the store is managed, and how hardworking and attentive the employees are. read more

Her lack of professionalism was shocking.. and wasn't limited to customers, I also overheard her yelling at, and being completely unreasonable to some of Petco's staff. The other Petco employees were very friendly and helpful. I really feel bad they have to work for someone like that - her staff seem scared of her, generating a palpable tense atmosphere. Booked a dog wash appointment and came in with my dog. During the check in, they asked if she was on any medication to which I replied Yes she is on daily Prozac and has been for 2 months. They refused to take her, saying the dog can't be on any medication because "if the dog comes out of it during the appointment, it could be dangerous." You don't "come out" of Prozac, wtf? She has been on it for 2 months, including the dog wash we got a month ago at this very Petco! I didn't sedate my dog for the appointment. Sigh, these people are insane. If you insist on trying this place, or any Petco, just lie and say your dog is not on any medication. They don't have the right to know that information anyway. We have been coming here for years!!! We were out of town buying a home to retire.our son was watching our fur babies. I gave him cash to get fresh pet, ( both of our dogs have very few teeth) he got the beef instead of chicken. So today we try to take back to exchange 75.00 dollars worth of food. Well that was unpleasant! I walk in the door and there are no carts at the entrance. Now I haul my 20 pound bag over my shoulder passing by employees. None of them greet me or offer to help. Olivia meets me at the register. No greeting. Just says "number" I mention to her that there are no carts the entrance. She responds "looks like they are all over here". No apologies. They then say it's the wrong location. So now I have to Uber to the San Marcos location. I called ahead and told them the entire story. I get there and the doctor left already. No care in the world. The staff had no care in the world. They were thrilled that I spent all this money tryna to use there services and not one care was given. So please don't ever ever ever exchange money with these devils. Spend your money with a business that at least has a heart because everyone I met at this location is heartless and has zero customer service. read more

DON'T GO ON A SUNDAY IF YOU NEED ANY SORT OF ASSISTANCESTANCE! My son and I went to purchase fish for his birthday, and he knew exactly what he wanted. We stood by the fish tanks waiting for assistance, but after what seemed like an eternity, no one came by, so I went to ask for help. After a few more minutes, the manager came by. She seemed frazzled and a bit annoyed while trying to wrangle our fish, but never caught them since she got a call for assistance at another department. She told us she was the only manager on duty and would be right back. My son and I stood there for about another 10 minutes (may have been more since it seemed like an eternity), but she never came back. Although my son was very disappointed, since we were buying fish for his birthday, we decided the fish weren't worth the wait, so we left. We live close by, which makes it convenient for us to buy fish there, but I'll never go back. Rather, we'll drive the extra 20 minutes to a reputable fish store in Escondido. I was glad to have found the food my cat eats at this store. I'm somewhat new to this area and usually get his food. The store was clean and attractive, and it was easy to find what I wanted. As I walked to the checkout counter I overheard an employee who sounded upset telling a coworker how you can get fired for not getting enough good reviews. She was notably angry. And then she was the who was my cashier. She was unfriendly, no greeting, no niceties, no thank you for shopping here or did you find what you wanted; nothing. I can't help but think she is the one who isn't getting good reviews, she was awful today. I would hope a young employee would learn the ways of business and the importance of customer service - it can break a business. I now have no desire to return there. We really like this Petco location. Unlike the Escondido location that seems to be constantly under construction, this location is well stocked with our favorite pups treats. Piper (our rescue lab) love Better Belly rawhide chews, and there are always plenty in stock here. I also attended a LabRescue event and checked out another black Labrador for a potential adoption candidate. His name is Cole, and we are hopeful he will be a part of our expanding canine family. This Petco location is great, and events like this show the stores commitment to the community. We support all pet adoption efforts, but specifically Lab Rescue San Diego. Thank you Petco and store management here for supporting pet events like this that help get pets into their fur-ever homes. I have been going to the San Marcos, Ca location for years. I have a few requests for my dog's haircut that must be done in order for me to be satisfied. Leave the hairs from his ears alone, blend the hair between his ears so they are even, and leave the tail fluffy. I try to stay with the groomer who did all these things. The last groomer left the ear hairs alone, but did not blend his hair evenly. I told her right before how I wanted them blended evenly. She said yes blended. Okay. Not even. Not satisfied. Then I noticed his behind was also unevenly shaved. The right side was longer than the left. Not satisfied. I can almost get over those things because hair can grown back, but a few days later I noticed dried cuts on his leg. These cuts were under more uneven cutting. If a groomer cuts a dog while grooming the dog, I want to be told why and how it happened. It also means they were doing the job two quickly. I was told the grooming would take three hours as I'm usually told, even for a small dog. She called me two hours later. It felt like a rush job. Each day I passed I noticed each thing that was wrong with how the groomer groomed my dog. I tried to remain loyal to this location despite the uneven haircuts from previous grooming sessions. I tried to book the only groomer who did everything I asked without nicking my dog's skin, but her next availability was a week later than I needed. I was taking my dog over at a friend's house who I didn't want my dogs long hair all over the place. I will not be taking my dog to this location or the Escondido location ever again. Groomers shouldn't be cutting dog's skin with their grooming tools. Not acceptable. Lastly the last groomer said to come back in three days if there was anything they needed to touch up. There was more than a touch up that needed to be done. If there was a problem with my dog sitting still I would understand. But every single time each groomer said he was fine. No one was upfront if there was a problem on their end or my dog's, except for the one groomer who I asked for who was busy. When get back in town I will get the ID numbers from the receipts. The groomer from March 2017 was the best and most careful groomer. I think her name was Alex. I'm sorry to say I won't be back for her services because the general lack of care my dog has received from the other groomers. If you find a good groomer, keep them. read more

My cat is a catnip fiend. He only likes it one way though; buried deep in a crinkly toy that costs $5.99 a pop. A toy that last all but a few days but no other will do. So, over the weekend, I went into this store to refill his stash. After coming here several times now, I have to say - this Petco is just ok because the service can be hit or miss. I've been here several times before when I needed something off the top shelf or needed help carrying something heavy and I couldn't find anyone to help. I think it's the pretty safe to assume this is the standard here because it's happened more than once. Since I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't need assistance with anything, all went smooth. The one in Carlsbad has much better associates so I prefer that location instead. I'll use this one only if i'm in the area. read more

Popped in very fast to grab my kitty her favorite kibble (Merrick brand these days sorry Blue Buffalo) and litter (go walnut litter it's way better than the clay). The prices are good and the food and litter section is really big! So big I couldn't find the right bag I wanted right away.
