My girlfriend and I both ordered dinner, and overall it was just disappointing for the price. She got the chicken parm and I got the Prime Rib Sandwich, which our total came out to $39.10. For that amount, we were expecting something a little better quality. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with fries for $20, and it honestly just wasn't worth it. The portion of meat on the sandwich was really small, and it felt underwhelming for the price. The fries were okay, but nothing special. They needed to change their oil in their deep fryer. We also asked for two ranches and didn't receive either of them, which was frustrating, especially with fries. It was disappointing enough that I ended up adding my own steak at home just to make the sandwich feel more filling. For $20 a plate, I expected more. Probably wouldn't ever order from "The Winery" ever again. read more

We stopped at the first place we came to in Chadron. It presented well, clean, well decorated, with a pleasant staff. The waitstaff was attentive, they recommended the chicken wing special which we tried as an appetizer. My wife order the grilled chicken with onions and mushrooms, while my daughter ordered the steak (med-well), mashed potatoes, and broccoli. I ordered the chopped steak with onions and gravy, with cubed red potatoes and broccoli. We didn't wait long for the appetizer or meal, though the appetizer came first (a good thing). The meals were served hot, but bland, they may need salt/seasoning for some. My wife and I did order the smaller portion meals fo older farts. My daughter's steak arrived well done, not seasoned. The broccoli was good but her mashed potatoes were j u s t that, no butter or milk blended, just wallpaper paste. The wife and I ordered apple crumble pie and ice cream, which was good. We skipped the dining room and headed for "The Winery" - a room in the back that offers a full bar in addition to menu offerings. We were only there for a nightcap, (our hotel shares the parking lot), so I cannot vouch for food. While our server, Emily, was an absolute professional and a delight to talk to, the space itself leaves much to be desired. It looks as one would expect a small town restaurant named country kitchen to look- very much more family diner than wine room. That's not necessarily an insult, I do give them kudos for trying to add a touch of class to an otherwise down-home restaurant. They closed at 9pm, which feels a bit early for a place serving beer, wine, and cocktails. We enjoyed our drinks and the conversation but were otherwise pretty underwhelmed. read more

Our server wasn't very friendly. I asked for kids menu since we had two very small kids with us and it seemed like it was an inconvenience to get those. Then I asked what dressings they had for salad and he said he could only remember ranch but they had a lot more. Stopped here on a Sunday after a long drive. It took 10 minutes before our server made eye contact. Too busy on his phone. Every single item we ordered was cold. Went here because a friend wanted to and it was awful. Dark and dingy dining room, dirty faded menus, dead flys in the window seal next to me. My friend and husband ordered Cobb salads and they brought them and said they were out of eggs which is a big part of a Cobb salad (meanwhile others were ordering omelets next to us). The salads were just thrown together with big hunks of unchopped iceberg lettuce and big sliced mushrooms and slices of avocado at the bottom of the bowl. I ordered fish and fries, the fries were just ok but not hot enough and the fish was burnt to a crisp and chewy. I ordered a side of broccoli and it was lukewarm, overcooked and had a hair on one piece. The waitress was MIA so I complained at the checkout station and they didn't really care but gave me a 10% senior discount when I asked for some kind of refund. The manager had to be called for the discount and asked how things were and I briefly explained and she just said sorry about that and quickly left. This was the worst dining experience I've had in years. read more

My family tried to eat in at 923 this evening. We were turned away, by a very rude manager. She stated that the dining room was closed. We came home and we were going to place a Togo order. This was at 940. The same manager stated that the kitchen was closed. Me and my family always spend 100 dollars on a visit as plus tip. This is ridiculous. Decided to give this place a shot since it's right next to our hotel and it was extremely disappointing. We ordered a CHICKEN bacon melt which to my surprise, had absolutely no chicken on it. I got a side of mac n cheese which was flavorless (my 10yr old makes better mac) My girlfriend ordered a reuben and a side of fries. The reuben was carelessly thrown together and 90% of the corned beef was pushed up onto one corner of the bread, leaving it to be mostly bites of sauerkraut. The fries were soggy and cold. The best part of the entire $30 meal was the side salad. Absolutely will not be coming here again. read more

Our waitress was very insistent on getting our order in moments upon arriving and checked back 3 times within 5 minutes to see if we were ready. Once our food arrived, we did not see our waitress once until we had to flag her down for water. When she returned our water cups at random, she stood for a moment before asking if we wanted new cups with the implication that she had no idea whose cup was whose. Upon receiving our food, my steak was undercooked and the Mac and cheese lacked any flavor at all. I've tasted Easy Mac that tastes better than this meal. When telling the waitress that I was disappointed and stating the reasons why, she simply stated "I'm sorry." And left the check and the table not to be seen again. We're in town for a wedding, and the reception was held at Country Kitchen. The food was *exactly* what I expected - fried chicken, pot roast, corn, potatoes, green beans, lots of gravy, bread, salad, potato salad - oh, and some weird vegetable casserole that was much tastier than it looked. The food was in a buffet, and it was serve yourself. I was more than able to find enough to eat and be full; but the quality of the food (at least, buffet style) was mediocre at best. Not interested in coming back. Oh, and their diet coke was weirdly flat. It had fizz - but none of it actually made it's way into infusing into the drink itself. Every country kitchen has the same menu, but they all taste different with different services. Apparently this one was not used to a diner rush, only breakfast. We ordered the sampler and it came out realitively fast, but the chicken tenders where over cooked and looked like left overs on some one else's plate. The ribs had just bbq drizzled over them instead of looking like they were cooked in it. Our dinner was good, but when we wanted a refill on our water the waitress got caught at another table and forgot about us. We waited so long, we talked about walking out. The steaks are OK, but if you want it medium, order it rare and it'll be OK. The Winery is the #2 spot in town. When we come here after the family reunion we usually have 50+ people so we reserve one of their party rooms. They tell us we will have our own buffet set up but have never actually have that happen. We always have to walk through a couple different rooms to crowd around the (very small) buffet in the main dining area. I feel kinda bad because the regular diners have to fend for themselves during that time. I will say that, even though there are a lot of us, they do keep up with keeping the buffet well stocked. Even with all of us at the same buffet, I have yet to find anything empty. They have a super great staff! Very nice! The food is very good. Ive always had great experiences with the dishes on the buffet. And its a great price per person. The biscuits and gravy are to die for!! read more

We are here for a wedding, so needed a quick close place to eat. We chose this but shouldn't have. I ordered the soup and salad. The soup was supposed to be baked potato. It consisted of yesterday's gravy from the biscuts and gravy, and yesterday's baked potato, and served luke warm. Too cold to even melt the cheese. And the salad was limp. Probably also yesterday's. Terrible. Someone else ordered a ranch steak, medium rare with mixed red potatos. They weren't red. And medium rare here is well done anywhere else. My Wife's mixed platter was also cold.
