I used to live in Norwood for years and never made it here. I had a day off and went with my partner. Coffee is bland, Dunkin is superior. There are signs for fresh farm eggs so I got a breakfast sandwich and it was inedible, like slimy. I ate the bagel and tossed the rest of the sandwich. My partner got some donuts and he said it was the equivalent of honey dew. I'm pretty sure people just like this place because it's a mom and pop shop. Super excited to finally have been able to try Country Kitchen in Walpole. There's a small counter when you walk in and a few tables on the side if you choose to dine in, but many people order and go. There was a short line of people constantly lining up as we ordered. Behind the counter, there were about 5 staff working switching between taking and making orders. I tried their bagel sandwich with egg, cheese, and ham as well as a few donuts. The bagel was lightly toasted, but still super soft and chewy. The egg was fluffy and overall the sandwich was a win for me. The donuts were soft and pillowy and I enjoyed the lemon-filled one the most. If you're in the area, I would definitely recommend trying this place out for a quick bite to eat. read more

I had this place recommended to me by a local friend. First impression was very positive. The place was vintage but was spotless and as great smells of sweets and coffee. These was a continuous line of customers and the girls were very efficient. They were courteous, attentive and quick. I chose to sit at the bar and have my donuts to watch the show. The best local place for fresh donuts. They have hot fresh regular and flavored coffee 7 days a week. The variety also of fresh pastry like= muffins, reg and gluten free. Danish, turnovers, breakfast sandwiches etc. We go at least 2 times a week. The server girls r truly wonderful. Very through and know what they r doing. I get a lemon filled donut and flavored coffee always. My other half always gets a hot coffee and a jelly filled donut. They also have a something special and different. First and last time here. My husband ordered 6 donuts on Monday in preparation for Mother's Day today. When he got home with the order and opened the box, none of the donuts matched our order. He called the store to let them know so he could come back to get the correct order. The woman kept saying "this is the order we received" and kept blaming it on miscommunications? I would understand if a couple donuts were incorrect but literally all 6 donuts were incorrect. Not even close to what we ordered. I wouldn't normally give a place 1 star just based on customer service but due to her attitude, and refusal to believe the whole order was incorrect, has prompted us to never try this place again. Searching for coffee and the giant coffee sign was like a beacon. Nice selection of coffee flavors (iced and hot). The line moved quickly. Initially, I thought they just had doughnuts but then realized they had bagels so I got an Asiago bagel with the bacon sun dried tomato cream cheese (fabulous). Stopped in right before closing time and grabbed the last of the cranberry scones. They were some of the biggest scones I've seen and quite yummy. They had no donuts left but went back the following day and got a bunch of them. They were hit or miss. Some tasted very fatty and had an odd flavor like the glazed donuts. Not sure if that's typical here as the other reviews favor these donuts. Maybe the oil needed to be changed? Not sure. I did like the cruller which had lemon filling and the crunch donut was yummy. There are donut shops and then there are donut shop meccas. Now I will divulge my bias ahead of time, I was born and raised in Walpole, so I had the privilege of this wonderful shop in my backyard for twenty years. Even now, 1200 miles away from the place, I yearn for their doughy delicacies and make it a point to bring a dozen back with me on my return flight when I am home visiting family and friends. CKD has been around for decades, it predates my first visit as a child in the early 70's. They don't offer three hundred donut varieties, they sell about eighteen or so. These babies are good-sized too (try comparing one alongside a Dunkin Donut and you'll see what I mean). Their glazed donut is heavenly, personally my three favorites are cinnamon, jelly and sugar-raised. They also make some of the best coffee-cake muffins anywhere. Moist and dense, they are addictive. They only make their donuts once (very early) each morning, which means as the day goes on you take the risk of them selling out of your particular favorites. They also offer a daily special where after a certain time you can purchase a half-dozen or a dozen donuts for half-price. On many occasion I have dropped in to pick up a dozen mid-afternoon for ~$3! Don't listen to the negative reviews about the staff, they work at an establishment that (especially in the morning) is typically bustling with customers. Since most of the customers are regulars (or at least repeat customers), they expect that you know what you want. They are cordial, but won't break into a conversation because, to be honest, most of the time they're too busy. They always have a smile and will do what they can to accommodate you. This shop is tucked away on a local road, far from the nearest highway. They don't have a website. Despite all this, a visit to Country Kitchen Donuts is more than worth the hassle. Just get there before noon if you can, it will give you access to most if not all of their donut and muffin varieties. And be prepared to get addicted! read more

I just don't get it. Unless they were having a very off day on Saturday. Stopped in to get a peach Melba muffin and an Elvis doughnut. I had heard good reviews of both. The muffin was very dry and only had two chunks of peach in it. The donut was very dry, and the little bit of chocolate frosting was melting off of it. This place is the quintessential small town breakfast place. It opens early, is frequented by many regulars, and is run by ladies who seem like they've been working here forever. The menu board looks like it's from the 1950s but the food is still good. I usually grab a bagel or a muffin, but it looks like they also serve more elaborate breakfast if you have the time to pull up a stool at the classic counter. And I guess their donuts are to die for. I'm going to try to resist those - we'll see how long I hold out now that I know about them. That said I managed to rise with the sun and was yet again rewarded for the effort. Good donuts to be sure (especially the old fashioned crullers), really good coffee, and wonderful people helping the dozen or so customers...BUT you have to try an Apple fritter...I have had smaller wheel covers, and though a determined patron could do so, I would urge you to resist the temptation to eat the whole thing at one sitting.. What about their muffins? I have never been to this place, but someone gave my wife some coffee cake muffins from this store. We had them the next morning and I expected them to be dry. They were still very moist and one of the best muffins in the top 5 of places I have been. I have no idea about the donuts, but I say try the muffins! read more

I can't in good conscience give a donut place four stars without knowing if they have good coffee. I had a lime rickey, which I admit was pretty good. That said, their donuts are definitely a notch above Dunkin's. I ordered two around 1:00 in the afternoon, meaning they were not the freshest, but after a taste test I would still go for one of this place's donuts over a "younger" Dunkin one. This place is more than a little out of my way, so I can't imagine stopping by too often, but if you're looking for donuts I'd try here before Dunkin or Honeydew. read more

When is the last time you ate a jelly donut overflowing with so much jelly, you had to lick the jelly off your fingers after your first bite? You will not get a jelly donut like this at Dunkie's, believe me. Like any donut shop, get here early so the donuts and other goodies are fresh. The coffee here is above-average, but go here for for the old-time atmosphere, the winding counter, and the old-school donuts... they are they best around. I drive 35 minutes south of Quincy/Boston just to experience this place on a semi-regualr basis. My eight-year-old and I had a super father-son experinence here sitting at the counter enjoying donuts, coffee and hot chocolate on a Saturday morning, - my wife loves this place too. The only reason I know of this gem is because I travelled Rt. 1A from Pawtucket, RI to Norwood, MA extensively in a previous life, and thank God I did. Iced coffee is definitely better than the hot. Sugar raised donuts are my favorite, glazed and jelly are great too. There's one high chair in the place, would be nice to have another available. Plenty of room to sit though most take it to go. Way better than the chain donut shops. read more

I haven't tried the yeast donuts, but the cake donuts are great. The jelly donut has a spicy kick to it. I think they use some juniper spice. They don't have vanilla-cream donuts, but they do have Bavarian cream. Next time I'll try the lemon. The apple donut looks good too. read more

When I visited they did have a counter and seating as DD next door does, No Drive thru at Country Kitchen, I think the appeal is the small home town feel and a lot of people are holding on to false memories. As other locals do, I meet here every month or so and kibitz with a few buddies that hike the AT. This is a great place to stop by for a cup of coffee and doughnut or muffin to kibitz with friends. I find the help is courteous and friendly - no pressure, no rush - just plain good service and good food. The best old fashioned Raspberry Lime Rickeys you will find anywhere.
