Took my kids here after visiting the Milford library. The place itself is small, cute and bright with inviting colors. There's a little mural on the wall of an umbrella that's a great spot for a selfie. The service was pleasant and prompt. So, as for the donuts. Visually, they look very good. Large donuts with various toppings. I personally found them to be very dry and dense. The specialty one that I had was a peanut butter filling with chocolate krispies like topping. It was okay- not something I would order again. Again, seemed dry with not much filling. I also got the honey glazed, the one with fruity pebbles on it, chocolate icing with sprinkles and a chocolate with glaze. I think it was over $20 for 6 donuts. If I pay that much, I want to be wow-ed by the donuts, and I just wasn't. Overall, I wouldn't make the trip to go again. Lots of other places with better donuts. read more

Came for the cruller special for November. The crullers specifically is available on weekends only for this month's special. They weren't bad. The cruller was super fluffy. A bit too fluffy imo--maybe since it was ultra fresh. We had another cruller for the next day and it held up better and tasted better to be honest. Was super excited to finally try these donuts and was a little disappointed. They look amazing and are huge! But that's where the excitement ends with these donuts. They are on the more pricey side. The donuts themselves were extremely dry. Some of the donuts as well had a strange taste to them, something I just couldn't put my finger on but not something I wanted to be tasting with my donut when I was expecting a totally different sweet taste. I've had Basic Batch Donuts on my list for awhile and I finally made the drive up! It's a small shop, but there is wall seating for a handful of people. I went 8am on a Friday and I didn't have issue with parking or a line. Ordering was easy, and it was nice to be able to see all the donuts. I ordered two May specials (Double Stuffed Oreo and Dulce de Leche Churro) and two regular items (fruity pebbles and maple bacon). I also ordered the May special creme brulee sugar cookie and the May special coffee cereal milk latte. My absolute favorite item was the creme brulee sugar cookie. OMG it was so soft and the flavor was sweet and a little crunchy and just out of this world. I wish it was a regular item or I bought a dozen to freeze them. I still can't stop thinking about it. As a doughnut connoisseur, this one is tough to write, because while they're light years ahead of Dunkin' Donuts, and they are certainly ambitious, Basic Batch falls a little short of other similarly ambitious donutries (if that's not a word already, I just coined it) that are at the same premium price point. The toppings are cute and eye catching, and some of them are delicious. But some taste odd and most have a donut underneath that's closer in texture and flavor to a brioche hamburger bun. On most, the outside is extra sweet and the inside is not sweet at all. Depending on your preference, that can be a good thing. Don't get me wrong, still good. Just not destination material. I'll say this: the pop tart is fantastic. If only real Pop Tarts were as good. And the donut selection is impressively vast. And there's a narrow counter and outside tables to enjoy your bounty, so it's more than just a takeout place. Here's a rundown from a recent visit: Creme Brûlée: Delicious outer coating of a light, wet glaze that's torched into caramel crispness just like the fancy dessert. Vanilla pudding on the inside. Honeydipped: Very lightly glazed. Could have used more glaze. Thick and doughy, but a light, firm dough. A little too plain tasting and borderline dry under the glaze. Chocolate Honeydipped: Similar in texture to the honeydipped, but with a little more glaze and a weird, sweet flavor somewhat related to chocolate, but off. Blueberry Cake: Brilliantly bumpy and very well coated with a substantial amount of glaze. Cakey inside with strong blueberry flavor, but again, off. I'm not going to say artificial, but off. Boston Creme: Your basic rendition, no bells or whistles, basically the same chocolate on top as Dunkin, basically the same vanilla pudding as Dunkin, a firmer and plainer dough than Dunkin, but fresher than Dunkin. Maple Bacon: Everybody's doing this flavor nowadays, and I gotta hand it to Basic Batch; theirs is one of the best I've had. Still not crazy about the plain, firm donut beneath, but the toppings were very well done. The maple was a thick coating that tasted like maple and not chemicals. The bacon, allotted in small strips (earlier renditions had crumbled), looked skimpy but was fresh and crisp and tasty. read more

Wow. I love these artisan donut shops. I finally stopped in to check the place out and try some of their delicious looking donuts. As I walked in I was greeted by the friendly staff. I was told about the special donut of the day, a creme brulee donut. There had to be at least 12 varieties of donuts available. I chose the maple bacon, an apple fritter and a cinnamon roll. I ate the cinnamon roll first. It was light and delicious. Generously covered in frosting. After I ate the maple bacon donut... wow. Very pleasantly surprised by the bacony(?) goodness. Prices are to be expected. I paid 17 bucks for 2 donuts and 2 bakery items. Very fair. There is also a great artisan coffee shop next door that roasts their beans in house! read more

Stopped by Basic Batch Donuts on a mid Saturday morning. It's wasn't very busy, staff was friendly, and I was able to place my order quickly. I had the honey glazed and chocolate glazed donuts. I've come here a couple of times to grab some donuts and both times have been an easy process with their clearly labeled donuts. Basic Batch Donuts opened to the public on Saturday October 24, 2020 and there was a very long line stretching down the long parking lot out to Main Street before the doors opened at 8 am. Everyone in line was masked up. It took me an hour to get inside and some of the popular donuts were already sold out such as maple bacon and glazed donuts.  They have around 12 choices of donuts on hand each day, which changes often. The handcrafted donuts are $3.50 plus tax each and they also sell homemade cinnamon rolls and pop tarts, coffee, and tea. When it was my turn, I picked out 6 donuts ($21 plus tax) and a blueberry pop tart ($4 plus tax). I randomly picked out donuts pointing at the case including Samoa, Cookies N Cream, Pumpkin Swiss Roll, Fruity Pebbles, Fruit Loops, and Candy Apple. The service here was prompt and pleasant. The blueberry pop tart had sweet blueberry filling in a flaky pastry topped with purple blueberry icing. The handcrafted yeast donuts I got were very good and fresh, with a soft light airy texture inside, which were great snacks while driving along 495 to my next stop. Since they only made 1000 donuts on the first day, they were sold out for the day in under 2.5 hours. After posting pictures of my treats on social media, one of my local friends texted me "omg is this the place in Milford that just opened today?" Her friends were actually in the same long line and posted pictures too! She couldn't believe I drove over 70 miles from Southern NH to Milford for donuts. I already knew the handmade donuts from Basic Batch Donuts were going to be very sought after and I had to try them ASAP! read more

Honestly if you think these are good doughnuts you are brainwashed / blinded by the presentation or fancy pink box. The doughnuts themselves are dry and flavorless. The fillings, creams and frostings are overly sugary and sweet. Not to mention they charge a premium. If you only do doughnuts, they should be great. These are seriously terrible. I get the aesthetic part of this business, the donuts look visually appealing and the box they come in is the only reason I even give a star. Let's be real, these are bread circles masquerading as donuts. Dry, dense, almost stale like in texture. 48 bucks for a dozen donuts would be totally acceptable if they blew my you know what off, as someone who hates Dunkin' Donuts I would honestly suggest that over these donuts and not just for value either, I don't think the taste is that far off comparatively. A friend and I came here on Superbowl Sunday. We were hoping to try the Pepperoni Pizza Donut, but they had already sold out earlier in the morning. After driving an hour to get here, we weren't leaving empty-handed, so we decided to get an assortment of Valentine's Day donuts so that we could split them and try more. Our thoughts on each donut are as follows: Creme Brûlée Donut: The donut itself and the filling were good. The crystallized sugar on top that you have to "crack" to eat was way too hard. Like, break your teeth or pull out your fillings hard. We both agreed that this donut would have been better with a simple glaze on top rather than the hard shell crystallized sugar topping. Cookie Dough Donut: This one was my favorite of the actual donuts. My friend thought it was a little too sweet, but but one man's trash is another man's treasure, and I didn't not let any of this donut go to waste. The cookie dough filling in the middle was excellent, although, we both felt that it'd have been even better if the chocolate chips were mini rather than regular size. Other than that, I would return for this donut alone. Red Velvet Donut: I wanted to love this more than I did. It was a little too doughy and not as flavorful as either of us expected it to be. It was also a little on the drier side, so we each only took a bite and then moved onto the next. Apple Fritter: The Apple Fritter at Basic Batch is different than your traditional donut shop Apple Fritter. It's softer and fluffier with less of the crunchy, fried bits and less chunks of apple than a traditional Apple Fritter. In a way, it kind of seems like a "healthified / less flavorful" version of a traditional Apple Fritter. Cinnamon Roll: I love most all cinnamon rolls. This one was good. Would it have been 100 times better with cream cheese frosting? Yes. Would I order it again if I'm ever back at Basic Batch? Probably. Homemade Pop Tart: This was more like a "Toaster Strudel" than a Pop Tart, but I'm here for it nonetheless. The cream cheese frosting on top is what got me. Anything with cream cheese is a winner in my eyes. Even though it was more like a Toaster Strudel and less of a Pop Tart, I would get this again. After trying this Valentine's Day assortment, we came to the conclusion that the Cookie Dough Donut, The Homemade Pop Tart, and the Cinnamon Roll were worth the 1-hour drive for us to get to Basic Batch, and we're excited to see what varieties they come up with next. read more

Basic Batch is relatively newer in the last year or so but easily some of the best donuts I've ever had. They offer cake style, brioche and filled donuts as well as donut holes, poptarts and cinnamon buns. Every month they have new flavors and the classic flavors remain the same. I saw a video of this place on TikTok and had to try it. I've been here twice. The first time, I came around 10am and there was still a good selection but some flavors were sold out. The second time I came was at 8am on a 20 degree Saturday morning. The line was out to the road and I waited an hour before I got inside. The place is very small and service is slow. I would come here more often but the doughnuts are quite expensive. $3.50 for one, $19 for 6 and $38 for 12. Poptarts are $4. They are however big doughnuts. I have tried many different flavors so I'll just list them and how they were. Homer- strawberry frosting is way too sweet and not much strawberry flavor. Cinnamon toast crunch- not bad. Samoa- very good, one of my favorites good combination of coconut, chocolate and caramel. Passionfruit- a bit odd, I don't think I really liked it. Maple bacon- good. Fruity pebbles- good but has the homer frosting which makes it not as good as it could have been. Original glazed- very good, my favorite. Creme brulee- very good, one of my favorites nice crunchy sugar topping that has the slightest burnt flavor but not at all overpowering or gross burnt. Vanilla coconut- it was ok, a bit sweet but nice balance between vanilla and coconut. KitKat- not good it was sweet and salty but no KitKat flavor. Birthday cake- it was ok. Blueberry cake- good.
