This is a great local doughnut shop. I was in the area doing some errands and when I was driving towards this place I decided to stop by and get one of their doughnuts. It was late morning so some of the varieties of doughnuts they offer here were already sold out but there were still plenty of flavors to pick from. I was in the mood for something filling but simple so I went with one of their plain doughnuts. The server behind the counter was very pleasant and professional. The counter area was spotless and the floor was clean as well. There is some seating in this establishment if you would like to enjoy your doughnuts and coffee right in the shop. I took my doughnut to go and when I got home and ate it it was very delicious and satisfying. The doughnuts that they make here are very good sized and one is enough for anybody. I have had their glazed doughnuts as well before and they are just as good as the plain doughnut that I purchased during this most recent visit to the shop. Right on Copeland Street, the Donut King is a West Quincy classic! Donut King is a homey local donut shop that offers coffee and of course donuts. They have a large variety of made-in-house donuts. The Bavarian creme is easily my favorite -- a must try for when you stop by. It's soft, airy, and filled with tons of delicious sweet custard. I also really enjoy their classic jelly donut. They do not slack on the filling! The service is quick and friendly, and they know the names of the regulars. If you do stop by, make sure to come early! I came only 2 hours after opening and some donut flavors were already sold out! The locals are here bright and early and it is always busy. Everyone raves about these donuts but here's the truth. Honey dipped barely have any glaze on them. Boston creme are better but still only half filled with creme. Very cakey sooo many places have better donuts. If you're gonna do honey dipped make sure they are dipped fully. read more

Had a craving for donuts, which I assure you doesn't happen all that often. I didn't feel like going all the way to Kane's, nor did I feel like having the factory-produced sugar/oil rings of Dunks. Sorry not sorry. Yelp took me to Donut King. For donuts got a Honey Dip and Bavarian Cream (for Boston Cream (Kream?) was all sold out that morning. Also ordered a Coffee with cream and sugar (oops on the sugar). The Honey Dip donut isn't quite as deletible as Kanes, but still very good. it tasted fresh, and was light and airy as far as donuts go. This is a donut I would absolutely return for should the aforementioned cravings repeat themselves. However, if I am to offer criticism: I found it a little oversweet, and the hole in the center was substantial enough that whoever got the donut-hole/munchkin would be a very happy camper. Then there was the Bavarian Cream... this one was a miss on a couple fronts. First, the donut had that day-old taste you find at Dunkin. Second, it took be almost to the center of the donut to get to the actual cream inside. Third, it seemed to have spent too long in the fryer, for it had a crust sturdier than any donut I'd ever had prior. Every time I think I have a handful of favorite donut shops, I run out of hands whenever I try a place like this. I'm a sucker for a classic donut shop. And don't get me wrong--not all classic donut shops get it right. But Donut King does. This is the donuts shop you need to try! Their selection is amazing and everything is delicious, they even have some good coffees. My only complaint and only thing keeping me from a 5 star review is they don't take credit cards. When buying donuts for clients I have to use a company card and this makes supporting cash only establishments difficult. They do offer an ATM on site. read more

I came here Saturday afternoon and luckily they still had a few donuts left! I was able to snatch up a Bavarian cream, powdered, and a chocolate chip donut. The only other donuts that were left were coconut. This place definitely has that old-school vibe and they are cash only. The donuts are a good size, not too small or too big, making it a satisfying eat. I'm usually not a fan of cake donuts, but somehow the donut king here has done it well! It's not too dry or crumbly and packs in plenty of flavors. The chocolate chip muffin was a step up from your supermarket muffins. Lots of chocolate chips and sugar on top making it sweet, but not too sugary. They open at 4:30 AM, so hopefully one day I'll be back a little bit earlier to try their other donut flavors. read more

Have been there twice in the last 3 weeks. Im not sure whats happened but the only donuts we liked was the honey dipped and the lemon cruller, however the filling was sparse and that happens with filling at times. Air pockets and such, but dont recall so much before. The regular (cake like) donuts were dry, almost stale like and perhaps overcooked. They completely fell apart when eating them. We threw out 2.5 out of the 6 this time and 3.5 out of the 12 a few weeks ago ( and im not sure I have ever thrown many donuts out). I, myself have never been a huge fan, my wife was however, but they have gone down hill from there IMO. Both times I was 1 of 3 or 4 people in the store in the quincy location. Perhaps something is wrong with the equipment or ingrediants changed. When I go back (and I will) I will only get the ones I like. Never had the coffee. I don't always eat donuts, but when I do... Okay, that joke's so 2007 (or 2008 or something)! As my aunt once said, "you can't make donuts without trans fat." I'm not positive that they still do, but Donut King provide larger, cheaper, and tastier donuts than DD by a mile. This local hole-in-the-wall dominated by townies is worth a trip if you're a fan of donuts. I like the honey dip and old fashioned donuts the most here. Yeah, they're simple but DK is better when they make the basics. The honey dip isn't too sweet and the donut's light texture is excellent. The old fashioned is full of sweet flavor with a nice spicy undertone. Opposite of the honey dip, the old fashioned is cake-y and more dense. The filled donuts (raspberry, lemon, bavarian) are okay but not my favorite. The problem is that, while they're gigantic, they can somewhat lack in flavor. You sometimes end up eating a lot of doughy nothing before you get into the filling. The muffins are underwhelming in the face of the titular baked goods. I wanted to like this place. I really did. But the subpar quality of the doughnuts, terrible coffee, and barely-there customer service urges me to seek greener, doughnut-filled pastures. After having tried a little of everything they have, I can say that unless your standards are a supermarket bakery or the plexiglass pastry cabinet at a gas station, you won't be impressed here. Their old-fashioned is an enormous, bland monster. It also serves as the base for many of their other doughnuts. It's terrible. Donut King definitely lived up to its name! We were there on a late Saturday morning and they still had a really nice selection of doughnuts. I tried the honey glaze apple doughnut and it was delicious. The honey glaze was perfect and there was just the right amount of apple inside - enough to be gooey but not overfilled so it wasn't messy. Best filled doughnut I've had in a long time for sure! We also tried the nitro cold brew (so strong and good) and the iced snicker doodle which was made perfectly with the right amount of cream. All together it was delicious and more than affordable. I work in South Boston, live in Somerville, and have somehow convinced myself that this place is totally on my way to and from work. Despite the fact that it's a 15 mile round trip through the most hellacious traffic I-93 has ever seen. Their butternut donuts are beautiful. As in awe-inspiring. Before I met their chocolate butternut, I had a deep-seated prejudice against plus-size donuts, primarily because it meant the delicious-fried-bit-to-dry-ass-cake ratio was totally out of whack. But they glaze and butter their nuts so hard that they could be twice the surface area and still be sweet enough to melt straight through my fillings and right into my (admittedly sparse) chest hair. They're the second best butternuts ever (Supreme Coffee and Donuts in Brockton nails the glaze just as hard, but is way better at straight-up frying the pants off of donuts), and there's no real reason to try anything else. The honey dip's lovely, but the raised donuts I've tried have more of a flaky brioche consistency (like Kane's raspberry coconut, for example) than a soft, this-is-what-JFK-was-talking-about-when-he-said-Ich-bin-ein-Berliner, raised donut texture (think Kane's creme brulee, or the exact opposite of anything Dunks has ever sold.) read more
