    Bavarian Creme Donut
    Christine L.

Right on Copeland Street, the Donut King is a West Quincy classic! Donut King is a homey local donut shop that offers coffee and of course donuts. They have a large variety of made-in-house donuts. The Bavarian creme is easily my favorite -- a must try for when you stop by. It's soft, airy, and filled with tons of delicious sweet custard. I also really enjoy their classic jelly donut. They do not slack on the filling! The service is quick and friendly, and they know the names of the regulars. If you do stop by, make sure to come early! I came only 2 hours after opening and some donut flavors were already sold out! The locals are here bright and early and it is always busy. They have a small parking lot but there is also a good amount of nearby street parking. I'll be back soon to try other donuts :)

Marble donut - a choco vanilla mix of pure heaven Butternut donut- a fun texture with an almost earthy sweetness to it, almost tame caramel Jelly donuts are always a winner. But the stick is the perfect package--always the right balance of donut and jelly filling! Charming place, delightful staff. Small and cozy, but definitely more seating than most hole in the wall donut shops, I can't wait to try more! Fun coffee flavors, bagels, and breakfast sandwiches!

Had a craving for donuts, which I assure you doesn't happen all that often. I didn't feel like going all the way to Kane's, nor did I feel like having the factory-produced sugar/oil rings of Dunks. Sorry not sorry. Yelp took me to Donut King. For donuts got a Honey Dip and Bavarian Cream (for Boston Cream (Kream?) was all sold out that morning. Also ordered a Coffee with cream and sugar (oops on the sugar). The Honey Dip donut isn't quite as deletible as Kanes, but still very good. it tasted fresh, and was light and airy as far as donuts go. This is a donut I would absolutely return for should the aforementioned cravings repeat themselves. However, if I am to offer criticism: I found it a little oversweet, and the hole in the center was substantial enough that whoever got the donut-hole/munchkin would be a very happy camper. Then there was the Bavarian Cream... this one was a miss on a couple fronts. First, the donut had that day-old taste you find at Dunkin. Second, it took be almost to the center of the donut to get to the actual cream inside. Third, it seemed to have spent too long in the fryer, for it had a crust sturdier than any donut I'd ever had prior. The coffee was nothing remarkable, but understandable considering they specialize in donuts, not coffee.

you can never have too many donuts (well, this is too many donuts...but my freezer is happy & stocked for future weekend mornings)

Every time I think I have a handful of favorite donut shops, I run out of hands whenever I try a place like this. I'm a sucker for a classic donut shop. And don't get me wrong--not all classic donut shops get it right. But Donut King does. The way to my donut-clogged heart is simple: 1) inexpensive 2) classic styles (old-fashioned, basic filled yeast donuts like jelly & Boston cream, a multitude of old-school favorites) 3) HUGE 4) slightly crispy outside, dense yet airy inside (speaking for the old-fashioned styles like the cruller) 5) fresh (not being able to taste old oil from the fryer) Donut King hits all 5 of those qualifications. So, I suppose they will remain king.

Some people look forward to the weekend so they can sleep in. As for me, I'm out of the house no later than 6am. Simply because the coffee rolls at Donut King are normally gone by 7am. And there is very good reason for that.

I came here Saturday afternoon and luckily they still had a few donuts left! I was able to snatch up a Bavarian cream, powdered, and a chocolate chip donut. The only other donuts that were left were coconut. This place definitely has that old-school vibe and they are cash only. The donuts are a good size, not too small or too big, making it a satisfying eat. I'm usually not a fan of cake donuts, but somehow the donut king here has done it well! It's not too dry or crumbly and packs in plenty of flavors. The chocolate chip muffin was a step up from your supermarket muffins. Lots of chocolate chips and sugar on top making it sweet, but not too sugary. They open at 4:30 AM, so hopefully one day I'll be back a little bit earlier to try their other donut flavors.

I decided to give this place a go because I wanted something other than the inimitable, unmistakable, and ubiquitous Dunkin Donuts, I tried a Honey Dipped and Boston Cream. These were alright... they weren't quite as 'factory' as Dunkin', but they weren't as tasty and fresh as Kane's. The Boston Cream had dough that had some bounce, and no clearly evident old-fat flavor or staleness. The cream inside was pleasant and not overly sweet, ditto for the chocolate coating. The Honey Dipped left something to be desired. The dough here also had the bounce, but on the flip side there was a little of that old-fat flavor as if these guys were left over from last night. The coating seemed like a very light dip into a sugar frosting (didn't really taste honey). I would have liked a little more frosting/honey for sure, as this was like a mildly stale fried dough otherwise. In my opinion, this is not a place you would go out of your way for, but a solid grab-and-go.
