Last year we walked over from a nearby hotel for dinner. This year we stayed at the Holiday Inn attached to the restaurant. We purchased a "breakfast included" hotel room. They gave us a $5 off coupon and two "breakfast included" coupons. We used the $5 off for dinner and hotel guests w/o breakfast included can use the $5 off breakfast. The dinner menu includes breakfast items as they serve breakfast all day. They also have a kids menu and a 'lighter fare' menu for those with smaller appetites. A good number of sides to go with your entree. Burgers, soup, dinner salads and more. At breakfast service a breakfast only menu was presented by our waitress. Hotel guests can order anything from the menu. We had two coffees which were refilled, juice and combination egg plates. Most combo plates include pork based breakfast meats. The waitress allowed changes such as swapping an english muffin for toast or removing meat. Both dinner and breakfast had one FOH employee working as hostess, waitress, cashier, food runner and at night, bartender. I give both these ladies a lot of credit for handling everything so cooly but honestly, management needs to add another staff member to each shift. That's ridiculous. At dinner service guests had to tell the waitress how to mix a drink as she is not bartender trained. Guests lined up at the register to pay instead of waiting for the check to help the waitress out. Once one guest stood up to pay, others followed to make it easier on her. She did great communicating with guests (I have five orders to deliver then I'll bring that drink, etc.) in a situation that never should have happened. Other than that, our visits here have been good. Food cooked as ordered. Clean. Waitress kept an eye on us and kept coffee and waters filled. Plenty of parking shared with hotel. Inside out: the place is in a hotel a little off the beaten path and it wasn't the cleanest floor I've ever ever seen, but everything else seemed pretty well kept. Service: honestly incredibly good, they seem to have regulars that they treated with respect and it was incredibly fast. Food: having been looking for a good breakfast place to hit because we're here once a month this is probably the best option we've had aside from fast food. It was expensive for what it was but worth it once! Considering how rough everywhere else has been in the area they get higher than I probably would normally give. Another great dinner here at country kitchen in Ontario, Oregon. Great service by Carmen who I watched work hard to take care of not just myself but a restaurant full of hungry customers. If you're looking for something to try here, the roasted turkey dinner is outstanding and I certainly wish I could have this during the Thanksgiving holiday holidays rather than having to cook for myself. We were helping my brother move and stayed at the hotel nearby. It was a good idea seeing how we needed sleeping arrangements other than sleeping on the floor. We chose this hotel for few reasons. One being the free breakfast. The hotel gives you a ticket each day your there for each person to get breakfast. I thought it would be like most continental breakfast at any hotel. Yogurt. Bagel. Cereal. No thanks. Not here. They have a special menu for the free breakfast. It's from the regular menu, just some restrictions. It is free and all. I was very surprised at the choices and not kids portions either. My wife and mom never ate all their breakfast either day we went. I did but I eat a lot and I wasn't hungry afterwards. We tipped good because we felt like we should have paid for the amount of food you get for free. Did I mention it comes with coffee. We never used the coffee pot in our room. I get what this restaurant is trying to do: be a modern hotel restaurant with top notch service and food. Problem is that it feels cheap as heck. There is no color in the restaurant, which makes it feel dead. The food was okay, not anything special, but small portions and subpar flavor do not justify the absurd prices. 16.00 for a create your own omelette with two toppings and 2.50 for every additional topping is sad. There was a big table that was leaving just when we came in. Their trash and dishes still hadn't been picked up when we left, which tells me they are either understaffed or they don't care. Our waitress was nice, if forgetful. The other time I went I had a quesadilla burger, which was okay, but I expected a slightly larger burger and more than only enough fries just to cover the plate. It was not impressive. The fries also tasted bitter, which I think means they need to change the oil out, but I'm not sure? This is the restaurant equivalent to "meh". read more

The Country Kitchen is located in the Holiday Inn, formerly the Clarion Hotel. The hotel is being renovated, including the restaurant. At the present time, the restaurant is very stark with bare walls, and little in the way of ambience. It looks like a conference room with tables set up. There is a single booth. The wait staff were incredibly friendly. The menu is very limited, focusing on pancakes and traditional egg dishes such as omelets. No oatmeal. No bagels. No Mexican entrees such as huevos rancheros. Prices are very high for what it is. Coffee is over $4 a cup. Omelettes are $15, plus or minus. You'll likely do better at a local restaurant or even another chain diner. Before the hotel was rebranded, the Clarion offered a free breakfast for hotel guests. At that time, the Country Kitchen breakfast was better than your average hotel's free breakfast. But, at the prices charged ($40 or more with tip) you'll be better going elsewhere. read more

I cannot say enough nice things about Brittany and the other woman who was working with her this evening (July 27th). Both were handling the entire restaurant by themselves, in addition to busing the tables, cleaning and putting more set-ups down for the next customers. Both never complained, always smiled and were patient with each customer that came in. We never felt rushed to complete our order or to leave. The food was good. I'd give it 4 out of 5. So we gave our breakfast order first, then we didn't get our coffee until they brought the food. So, they food was decent - not great. I had biscuits, gravy and eggs. Everything but the gravy was cooked perfectly - the gravy was really bland. And a little pasty. To me, gravy-making should be an art form! The biscuits and eggs were good. The hubby had the ham and cheese omelette with pancakes, and they were good. The French toast tasted burnt, Ate 1 piece of French toast before I had to give up. 3 others in my party felt the same. Not a good meal. I have eaten here a few times because when it is freezing outside it is so much easier to eat at the hotel. Plus if you stay at Clarion and are a Choice privileges member you get a $5 voucher. This place is very similar to Denny's. They have a separate local favorites menu that has a few unique menu items. One of them is a burger that is between two grilled cheese sandwiches with onion rings, jalapenos, ham, and it is two Patties. The hamburger meat did not taste good like maybe they pulled it from the bottom of the freezer. Eating here after I turned vegetarian is tough even the pasta dishes gave meat in them. I broke my BS rules and got a veggie omelet, it was bland and the veggies were undercooked. It did not even have cheese on it which I thought all omelets came with. I will eat here again because the hotel pays me to. Nothing great here but it is not horrible either. read more

The food was cooked perfectly and everyone was happy. The convenient travel spot along the freeway is great. It was warm and friendly. I'm going to give this 4 stars because the food was spot on ...the service was great... my only complaint is the woman on the the register needs to go back and take her food handlers test again apparently she has forgotten several rules... she coughed on the screen several times she wiped her nose not kidding 5 times with her fingers and hand and wiped it on her clothes then she is handing people their change and then back to serving tables ... I watched her and she was wiping her nose several times again with her hand and back to the register spreading more and more germs... with this virus from China going around we all need to be extra cautious about spreading germs ..
