I used to frequent years ago. I met a friend there today and was very disappointed. Food was very expensive, $9.99 for 2 eggs, toast and a few potatoes. My friend had a cheese omelet and it had at most 1 slice of cheese. $3.75 for a cup of coffee. Butter was frozen and ripped the toast. If you wanted to add meat it will cost you an extra $4.99. When I walk in here, I just feel sad. I recall how it used to be quite a happening place. Now I'll go in about once a year in the hope that that maybe a new chef or owner has turned it around. No such luck. An order of challah French toast tasted and looked good, however who has ever seen square challah? An order of smoked brisket was dry and tough. It was cut too thick. It looked and tasted as though it had been sitting around for days. We need a great diner in our area. The Rubin's bread got a little soggy but the pita on the gyro was very well toasted. Over all they were good meals. Three of us ate well for just under $50. The service was good. So, Country Squire restaurant puts me in a box I cannot escape. Food was a 3 at best, but other factors cause this to be a 1 star rating. What factors, you ask? About 500 of them Mouse turds. Poops. Dedications. Feeces from meeses. All along the wall of the men's room, bathroom hallway, and to my wife's observation, women's room. And we are not talking of a lone, errant, wayward turd. We are talking of an obvious floorspace located next to the exit, covered with the defecation of either 1 very well fed mouse, or more likely, a Partridge family of mice. And they are eating well. Probably from the same food source I am. And yet, for such a generous amount of turd, nary an employee has seen it or cleaned it. And there is no way that happened in the last 12 hours. This is week's worth of accumulation. I ate the food anyway when it arrived, cause that's what I did. Omelette was ok...nothing more or less. Coffee cup was dirty- scrape the dirt off with fingernail dirty. Everyone's food was ok or less. Resturaunt was empty at 630 PM. Now I know why. Service was good, responsive, quick, friendly. If you want good service and so-so food- and aren't afraid of rodent infestations, you may like this place. Give it a try before the PA Department of Health finds out. read more

When my 90 year old mother and I entered the restaurant, we felt that the vibe was a little off, but we didn't pay it any mind. When we sat down, I felt a bit uneasy with the server; it seemed like she was serving us because she had to, not because she wanted to. In any event, my Mother ordered the scrambled vegetable omelet and I had the meatloaf platter. The coffee was terrible and my mother couldn't eat her eggs (she just pulled the cheese off the top and ate it with her toast). As a cop I have experienced the following before, which is why I come to the following conclusion: I ate all of my platter, but as we were leaving, I told Mom that I probably needed to use the restroom at her place when I dropped her off. After getting her in the car, I couldnt even get my car in gear before I had to RUN back inside to the men's room in the restaurant. To put it delicately body evacuated itself of everything I had just eaten. The only time that has happened in the past was when someone "put something" in food I had ordered when I was in uniform. Luckily, my mother had eaten very little of hers and only experienced a minor discomfort. Whether it was intentional and racially based, or just as a result of a bad kitchen, either way that's not in ANY way satisfactory. We will never eat here again, and we hope, for your sake and safety, that you don't either. read more

I stopped coming to the Country Squire years ago at the first glimpses of decline. Recently, I agreed to meet several families here as a central location. Something is clearly wrong when a diner is almost completely empty on a Friday night at 7:30 pm. The diner opens into an alcove with an unneeded bench to wait. It is tired and dated and sets the tone. Beware of the claw machine so every kid can get ripped off going for cheap stuffed animals. It's a sign of what's to come. Nothing feels clean. I inspected my utensils closely. I was cautious with the menu. I opted for snapper soup, figuring it comes from a can. They served it with sherry, which I didn't use as the stopper on the vessel was ill-fitting and caked in a sticky type substance. One of the teens ordered pizza. Should be simple. Except it had hair in it. I stopped at Wawa for him on the way home. It wasn't worth complaining or anything else. The service was good but the general sense of uncleanliness, depression, lack of freshness and lack of crowd ensures I won't return. read more

She asked for cheese on her fries and I asked for provolone on my hot roast beef sandwich and a side of gravy. The hash tasted like it could have came from a freezer packet. The flat pancake was a bit sour, which I'm not sure if it's normal. I only ate a bite, because syrup & jam didn't help the taste. My mom got broiled flounder & brocolli, which was better than the rest. Unseasoned as the rest of the food, but still better. Unfriendly and didn't care once to come back to the table and ask us how our food was or if we wanted refills but she was quick to see what her tip would be after we left. This is the only place I've ever gone to that doesn't give you a side of french fries or anything with the meal usually when I go to a diner I'll get whatever drink I'm having to go in a to go cup they charged me three dollars for my soda while eating my dinner and charge me an additional $3.39 for a small cup to go without telling me that there's a charge, I would've left a much better tip but all it was was the sandwich on a plate. Every now and then, I purposely go into a 2 star establishment out of curiosity. The way I see it, I want to see if they're getting a bum rap or if they're fixing their issues. I felt bad that she had to work such a bad night. So I ordered up the works. I went for the broasted chicken dinner since I am a fan of that dish in general. The soup was a merely passable version of canned. It wasn't good enough to be Campbells, that's for sure. Maybe Acme brand at best. I got some bread and butter while waiting, and it was passable but chewy. I wasn't hopeful. Got my meal after 25 minutes, and what came out actually looked quite appetizing compared to what you usually get out of fried chicken at a diner. It was 4 large pieces with a side of mashed potatoes. No gravy or butter on the potatoes... I guess you had to ask for that? Well the chicken was juicy, hot, and not too bad. I devoured it. The potatoes were real but flavorless. But the chicken was saving them from more Yelp doom. I figured it was a meal that was rescued at the last minute. I was ready to pass them with three stars. But then I made a fateful decision... "I think I'll try the banana cream pie." Well the nice waitress cut me a sizable piece and even scraped some off the side of the pan as extra. It wasn't pretty looking, but it was decently portioned. I dug in. And then I couldn't quite figure out what I was eating. It's like the pie couldn't decide whether it was banana cream, or lemon meringue. I wasn't sure if I should be eating this. I wondered if I should stop. Was it sour for a reason? It was only mildly sour, but noticeable enough to make me wonder. I don't know. I decided to keep going in another section of the plate. It was a little better around the back crust. Food was 4; serving staff was 4 in terms of enthusiasm. Other than that, I would avoid this place. 3 people for breakfast. We gave our orders along with toast orders to a waiter not writing a thing down. Wow he must be amazing. Forget about it. He came by 10 or so minutes later asking us what kind of toast we wanted. Another 20 minutes and he came around asking how one of our guests wanted his eggs. Meals came 10 minutes later and I got eggs Benedict which were wonderful but I ordered an egg omelet. I'm here about once or twice a year and have no major complaints. The servers are always nice, so I can forgive some order mistakes or the delayed timing we've experienced waiting for drinks. I've tried: -Cheeseburger - This was okay, but I wouldn't get it again. I'd recommend ordering it with a fried egg on top if you do get it. -Cheese steak - Good...would get again. I went here on a Saturday afternoon with my family, there was a total of 4 of us. We placed our order and it takes 30 minutes to arrive even though the place was not busy AT ALL!! But only 3 dishes came. I ordered a chicken sandwich and they forgot it. So 15 minutes later, here comes my sandwich but it didn't include fries even though the menu said all chicken cutlet sandwiches include fries. I asked the waitress and she said "the kitchen said just bring this to the table." So needless to say, I left still hungry and kinda pissed. They comped my meal but I'd still never go back. Horrible customer service. When we went to check out, the lady at the cashier didn't remove the $10 for my meal and ran the credit card so they had to issue a refund and do it again. We had a horrible experience today. We were seated immediately, and placed our order. 1/2 an hour later we still did not get our order. Finally we flag down another waitress and she said I'm not sure what happened but I'll just take your order again, so 45 minutes after we arrived we were served, the food was cold and greasy so we asked for our check, and was given the wrong check. At this point I asked to talk to the manager, who said he knew all about it and he was going to discipline the server. But offered no apology and basically didn't seem to care at all. It's not open 24/7 but they do have extended hours and you'll have a much much better meal. What if you prefer to head east? Travel 3.5 miles to the route 1 intersection and turn left. As soon as you turn you'll be staring at Llanerch Diner. This place is a Delaware County institution and is open 24/7. Once again you'll enjoy a much better meal. So if you decide to try one of my alternative choices your taste buds will thank you! read more
