We love coming to this restaurant 1-2 times a week. The staff is friendly and provide excellent service. It's under new management, owner Mike is always on site greeting customers and cleaning EVERYTHING in site. He has great work ethic and it shows. Waffles are bleh, but the Chicken Fried Steak is amazing! I'm passing through town on my way home to Oregon from Texas. I was craving Chicken Fried Steak for breakfast and so I found this place on Yelp. When I got here I remembered that I had eaten here years before on a previous trip. I couldn't recall for sure but I thought it had been a good experience so I figured I'd try again. Service was excellent and very fast! Overall the meal was good with the Chicken Fried Steak being pretty close to perfection. So what was wrong? Well I hate to be blunt but the waffles pretty much suck. The Chicken Fried Steak meal comes with the option of half a waffle so I got that to try them out. The waffle itself is ok. Nothing to write home about, or name your entire restaurant after for that matter. However I asked if I could have a blueberry waffle instead of just a plain waffle. The waitress said sure and that it was a compote on top for an extra $2 and change. I tried to sleep in my car last night which means I didn't really sleep at all last night so my brain didn't fully comprehend what she said and I just said "ok." I figured it would cost a bit extra for blueberries but after seeing what I got I feel like the $2 and change was highway robbery. They appeared to have just opened up a can of blueberry pie filling and dumped it on the waffle. It was still cold and had quickly turned the entire waffle, except for the outer edges, cold as well. When the waitress returned to check on me I told her everything was great except for the cold waffle and compote. She hurriedly offered to heat it up for me and a few minutes later returned with instead a brand new waffle half with blueberry compote that was all warm. So top marks for excellent service! However the taste of the canned compote and the sliminess of the liquid part of it was really off-putting. I've had pie filling with crepes before and it works well but it does not go with waffles at all. I especially couldn't get past the weird canned taste of the filling. So I cleaned my main plate, but only had a couple of regretful bites of the waffle part deux. I will also say that I was wishing the country potatoes were grilled crispier, but not everyone likes them that way so I don't fault them for not automatically serving them that way. Hopefully next time I pass through I will remember to order them that way. Also the gravy wasn't anything special but it went well with the steak, and if you didn't catch it before the the Chicken Fried Steak was really excellent! Perfectly crispy and tender. Just let it cool down for a few minutes because it's lava-hot when it comes out of the kitchen. So don't skip Country Waffles but definitely skip the waffles. read more

First time in Redding and have been wanting to try Country Waffles based on a recommendation. We ordered a stack of pancakes, country fried steak, and California omelet. The biscuits and gravy was hands down the BEST I've ever had!!! The omelet was not greasy, bacon was crispy and avocados were fresh. The fried steak was a little crispy and made great combination with the gravy. The pancakes were delicious!!! It was good size and was fluffy but it didn't lose the "pancake" taste. First time trying this place out. We were blown away by the food, hubby said one of the best chicken fried steak he's ever had. The farmer scramble I had was great too. The waffles were very good and the apricot syrup was awesome. But what really surprised us was the amazing service! It was packed and we were expecting a wait but were seated almost immediately with a waitress right behind them ready to take our drink order. I gave two stars and not just one because my husband's food was at least just OK. Mine was horrible. I ordered the Swedish crepes which were supposed to come with sweet cream inside. I don't know what was inside but it wasn't sweet cream unless it had curdled very badly. Even the crepes themselves were cooked badly. Becasue of Covid I ordered food to go for my mother and myself, as I picked up our lunch I saw outdoor seating and asked mom if she would like to sit outside and eat as the weather was beautiful. Unfortunately mom (87 years old) fell in the parking lot as she walked toward the outdoor seating. The manager came running out and a customer helped mom up. The manager was extremely helpful making sure mom was OK, he brought her towels, asked if she hit her head, if she needed to go to the hospital, brought a stack of napkins for her nose bleed. We ate a little bit of food there but mom wanted to go home a lay down. A couple hours later we ate the food that sat in the fridge and it was still tasty. Both owner and Crystal the lady who was serving the breakfast were very fast and helpful advising not only what to get for the breakfast to stay full whole day but provided us with information about local sightseeing places. This place is pretty good! They have a house-made strawberry thing for the waffles that is delicious. And good portion size. The people are very sweet there. It gets a 4 though because the cleanliness wasn't 100%, the gravy was a little too thick, and the servers sometimes seemed a little too busy. I would definitely eat there again though. read more

We have always loved the staff. They treat you better then most other places always smiling, and friendly and coffee cup is never empty. We usually always have exactly what we want. Until last Sunday, my egg whites were runny and my hash browns were cold and slightly undercooked. So I sent them back and you can guess what happened, Eggs came back hard and hash browns were all brown and hard like shoestring potatoes. Obviously the cook was not happy with me sending it back. We eat there most every weekend so I would say were regulars. I'm gonna hope this is a one time deal, hopefully this will never be an issue again. Today we were going to try a new place, we pulled into the parking lot and said to each other "want to just go to Country Waffles instead!?" Summary: moldy sandwich Labor day weekend I came here and I ordered a BLT. I didn't notice from the center cut that the entire perimeter of the tomato was completely covered by a neon green mold. I ate a few bites before noticing this. Then I realised the sandwich was moldy and felt pretty grossed out. I told our waiter who didn't seem that shocked. He asked the kitchen to remake it and I had a new sandwich but at that point I wasnt that hungry. Also to add insult to injury I was still asked to pay for this sandwich but I wasn't charged for OJ. Um... thanks I guess? As a chef you would have to be fairly negligent to slice and serve a tomato completely covered in mold. I never eat in, but order it to go. I order the Belgian waffle every time. The waffle is good but the service has gotten terrible!! They laugher chuckle on the phone when I order because I always order the same thing. The last couple of months they either forget the butter or the syrup. I'm ok without the butter because I have butter at home. I don't keep much syrup around because I only use it once a week, for the waffle. My husband is very nice and always picks it up for me. However, I can't get him to check the order for everything that should be in the bag, even though I've always quoted the character from one of the Lethal Weapon movies "They F____ you at the drive through". (Or any kind of take out). So today, no syrup and none at home so I have a dry waffle. In addition to the no syrup when I called to place the order she was on a hurry, which I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND, and rude and abrupt. I don't mind at all being put on hold and waiting my turn. I know they are busy. I've worked retail and serving food before, I'm a nice person and not rude. But to not even be allowed to get a sentence out is unpleasant. She even hung up on me. They are familiar with my order so while I don't like that, I can understand it and wouldn't complain or say anything because of,them being rude to me on the phone. But coupled that with the no syrup and not even talking to me on the phone, well that's it. I'm done with them. I tried to call and they wouldn't let me talk to the manager he was too busy. "Maybe tomorrow". I understand them being busy but if I were in the restaurant he would have talked to me. I am not giving my business and supporting a company that repeatedly can't get the order right. If we're eating there I'd get much better customer service. They give crappy customer service to to go orders because they know you are not going to be able to come back to the restaurant. read more
