Driving through Colombus, GA. we noticed the big blue restaurant in the corner and new we had to try it out. Love the interior, the diner aesthetics, old school retro style with a bus connected to the interior with additional seating like a real diner. I had to start with the Sweet Tea Lager that is brewed by a nearby brewery, Cannon Brew. Not sure I tasted sweet tea however, it was a decent beer that paired well with the meal. We ordered the following: CONGLOMERATION PLATTER - Sliced pork, beef and ribs. I changed the beef for brisket and it was a great decision. Would've loved this platter if it was hot. It came with bbq onions and pickles, a side of baked beans and toasted bread and butter, collard greens with pepper sauce. BUTTERMILK FRIED CHICKEN FINGERS - this was good according to my bf. They were pretty big, served with honey mustard, a side salad. 4 stars because the food was not hot however, everything else was good. As a Columbus native, I grew up enjoying Country's BBQ and have always loved it. I now live in Atlanta so I don't get to visit often. We were quickly seated when we walked in. Our server was very friendly and efficient. All three of us had pork plates. They came out quickly. The food was good but not as great as I remember it being. The location is a former bus station. I stopped in recently to try out what looked like a promising BBQ spot--cozy and familiar, with the layout and styling of what I assume was once a Sonny's. The interior had a nice, lived-in charm, and at first glance, the place seemed like it would deliver that classic Southern comfort. Unfortunately, the food was hit-or-miss, leaning more toward miss. The chopped pork BBQ had good flavor, but the texture was off--it was overly wet and mushy, almost as if it had been frozen and reheated. That's not something you want from a place selling smoked meats. The Brunswick Stew was a low point. I couldn't get past the taste--it had the unmistakable tang of something canned and past its prime. The vinegar-based slaw was just okay. It was dry, but it wasn't offensive. On a brighter note, the cornbread was genuinely enjoyable. It had more of a cake-like consistency than traditional cornbread, but it worked. Service was slow, though not due to the staff's attitude--my server happened to be on break when I was seated. Still, it was hard not to notice the table next to me (who walked in at the same time) getting their meals while I was just placing my order. So- pros: Food was great- the half chicken was awesome, and I love their butter beans. The ranch has a great flavor and my kids loved the fries. The waitress (once we started being served) was sweet. Cons: The hostess was a young boy (possibly high school). It was evident that some more training would be beneficial for communication and relaying to the growing line of customers that the tables were going to be available within an estimated timeframe. He said something about a table then vanished for 7 minutes as the line grew. It took a long time to be seated as a result, and then an even longer time to begin service. The biggest con: the window sills are full of flies (live and dead). It almost made me unable to eat my food (which was delicious). My kids made it a game to count the flies on the windowsill and it was 10 that they could see from their seats. I'd say even for a restaurant in the southern summer that's way too many. They definitely need to work on controlling and cleaning up the fly corpses. If the public facing area is this full of flies, what is the state of the kitchen?! Please correct this- it was disgusting and made me queasy. This would be solved with some basic cleaning at close...... read more

Simple, local, great service and even better food. The brisket today was some of the best I've ever had. My wife had chopped pork sandwich and I had this mixture of vegetables and mashed potatoes and stuff that was so good and so different. Service was great. We were in a large group so they sat us on the bus. The bus was cool, but dirty and it smelled a little funny. We ordered the beef brisket platter with corn bread and corn. The food was not good, brisket was super dry, fries didn't not taste fresh, and cornbread was ok. TBH I'm not really a fan of American BBQ, we only picked this place cause the people I was with were super hungry and all the food places around were not open yet. Went to Country's BBQ on Broadway. I ordered a sliced beef sandwich. The outer edge of each slice was coated with dried congealed blood and it had a putrid smell. After getting nauseous the server took the sandwich off the bill and I just had to pay for the fries. I contacted the owner who emailed me back to say the red ring was normal. Yes after eating at Country's for 40 years. Yes a red color ring is normal, but a layer of congealed dried blood is not normal and is disgusting. read more

I couldn't even finish it. I was so confused...because I thought brisket was one of their staples. It was my first time here, so I truly didn't know any better. Amazing service & BBQ! Love the ambiance and the buttermilk pie! Pulled pork with Shoop sauce is heavenly!

I have eaten at all of the Country's locations and love this one for the decor and how unique the restaurant is. They also have a drive-thru which lets be honest is truly magical when you have small kids with you. We love their side choices with each meal and my family often enjoys the chicken fingers and daily specials. The only thing with Country's that blows my mind is that they only serve a baked potato once a week. Potatoes in my opinion are a southern staple and often served with barbecue. On my last visit I did a takeout order and had the vegetable of the day/corn casserole with it. Service was friendly and packaging felt thrown together, but overall the food was delicious. If you are visiting Columbus or new to the area this is a must try local spot! read more

Since I live and work abroad, I only visit Columbus every few months and this is a restaurant I love to stop at for a meal that really feels like home. I had the pulled pork platter, which was great and a half-sweet tea. Our waitress, Hannah, was so sweet too. Honestly, she is a rockstar! If you go and have her as a server, you'll be very grateful for her company. She ordered chicken livers that made her sick almost immediately after we finished eating, we didn't even have time to leave the restaurant first. Theres no way they are cleaning them properly. Also, their guest bathrooms on the upper level are anything but clean. Sticky floors, dirty stalls (and toilets), no tissue holders, and no hot water. On top of that, sub par service from servers who look like they'd rather be anywhere else. I am a Country's BBQ girl all the way but we won't be revisiting this downtown location. read more

The pros: Friendly staff, neat bus station vibe with and old Greyhound bus attached to the restaurant where you can sit and eat. Unfortunately, the barbecue was just OK. We both had the ribs and they were simply OK. Nothing stood out that wow'ed us. The coleslaw was dry and tasteless, but for the overwhelming celery seeds. They were out of cornbread so I had to settle for toast. 3 types of BBQ sauces at the table. They were ok. I had the banana pudding several years ago and loved it. The food was good as it usually is. The service was good too. Atmosphere was pleasant and good for lunch downtown. The problem I have is the fact that to pay with the QR code they want you to download an app just for that. They used to let you go online without downloading a stupid app that could be malware. I wish they would bring back the simple link to the payment. If the restaurant does not have a way to pay on their app then we should not be made to download an app just to pay. I had rather wait and have properly cooked food. Our appetizer of BBQ egg rolls comes out scorching hot. Before I can even cut one piece off, our meals arrived. STONE COLD. I guess they had been sitting out since we ordered. The person who brought them looked like she had just rolled out of bed with shredded jeans and unkempt hair. (I thought servers were supposed to pull their hair up to keep it out of food.) In addition to cold, my chopped pork was dry and crusty. I ate one bite. The collard greens were good, but 1/3 of the tiny bowl was taken up by an excessively large bone. The "butter beans" were not butter beans, but lima beans and were undercooked and crunchy with no seasoning at all. My husband's baked beans were okay, his black-eyed peas were watery and tasteless, lacking any seasoning. Overall the food was cold, tasteless, and pretty gross. The service was slow and uninterested. I had a gift card someone had given me because she doesn't eat at Country's BBQ. I understand why. Passing through this small suburban city in Georgia to find this great BBQ place to get something in the stomach. I had the Chili which was very delicious and it hit the spot until the arrival further up north to Atlanta. The chili was tender and the beans along with the sauce gave it a sweet and slightly tarty taste. I definitely enjoyed it. They make excellent sweet tea in this establishment.
