My partner and I were excited to try Mark''s City Grill and arrived early, among the first couples seated. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the start. While we sat waiting, we watched the waitstaff serve and attend to at least four other tables that were seated around us, yet no one came to greet us, take a drink order, or even acknowledge that we were there. After waiting for an unreasonable amount of time without any service or communication, we decided to leave. It's frustrating to be overlooked, especially when you're looking forward to trying a new restaurant. Mark and his family the jones family has been around for years. I have loved all of the restaurants. Mark city Grill is very enjoyable. The food is almost...100% consistent and the service is great. But the Restaurant itself, is a bad need for a upgrade. Or at least for some sound barriers. hard to be in a big group sometimes a small group, it is very loud. And a little cheerier decoration, a little paint or lighter colors, and some new tables, maybe even nicer booths would much more pleasurable, comfortable, and inviting experience. This is a restaurant I have probably driven by dozens of times and finally decided to go in and it was so worth it. We had a spicy pork belly appetizer served over a bed of collard greens which was delicious. Everyone's food was great. This place did NOT disappoint! We had a party of 8. They were busy at 6 on a Thursday, so we divided into 2 tables. Everyone LOVED their food. We got collard greens dip, tomato basil soup, the meatloaf, 3 of the burgers, chicken fingers, Cajun pasta, jalapeño poppers, fried green beans, sides of mac and cheese and mashed potatoes, fries, etc. everything really was delicious. Marks grill hasn't disappoint me yet. I have had the fried shrimps, mac and cheeses, fries, chicken tenders, my boyfriend had the steak Philly and my son had the burger and fries. Everything we order is always on point and doesn't take long to get ready. I always order online and do a pick up. Once I have my baby I will eat on the inside. Highlight of the visit BY FAR was the Bacon Jam Burger w goat cheese, and the incredibly friendly service. The restaurant itself was okay, a bit dated - but apparently they're building a new location...? I went to Marks City Grill with my parents for lunch today. The atmosphere was wonderful. The hostess, Chloe, was warm and friendy and our server was super efficient (sorry, forgot her name). We came on Thursday because it's chicken fried steak day, which is delicious, easily the best in town. Maybe I'm a little bias because Columbus is my hometown but since I only visit the States once or twice a year, I am thankful restaurants like this exist. read more

Let me start with my two complaints. We were seated by the door and there was a draft while people held it open (the hostess stand is very close to the door). It seemed to take a while to get our appetizers, but once those came the rest of the meal was timed well. Now for the best parts: the meal. We ordered the seasonal special app: scallops with balsamic glaze, goat cheese and cranberries. Yum! I ordered crab cakes and my partner got the seasonal special of red snapper. Amazing and delicious from the grilled asparagus to the caper sauce and all of the marine life in between. We tried the cheese grits, steak fries and asparagus for sides. I will add that the corn muffin was on the sweet side but not dry, so that's a point in their favor. Would absolutely come back here! But I'd ask to not sit by the door again. read more

It isn't often that I get pleasantly surprised when I try a restaurant for the first time, but I was very happy with the results of my first visit to Mark's City Grill. Step into the place and it's intimately lit and hopping. A good crowd, which is what you want to see, though it is a bit noisy. Still, plenty of tables and space for those who might have mobility issues. The staff is welcoming and willing to work with just about anything. We were lucky to get Chris for our table. Pleasant, engaged, and knowledgeable about the menu, and willing to talk about the items. The restaurant also has a full bar and plenty of specialty drinks along with what has come to be staples. My wife ordered their burger and fries, and I had the pork cutlet with collard greens and Mac and cheese with a portobello fries appetizer. First, the appetizer. This is a portobello mushroom cut into strips, breaded and fried. The strips are generous, and the breading almost like a tempura, fried to a great crispy texture and served with a horseradish remoulade. Here's the thing about fried mushrooms; they really have to be fried a little longer to bring the moisture level down so that they're not mushy on the inside, and these were perfect; just enough mushroom texture and flavor and a great crisp shell, and the remoulade did a good job of enhancing the flavor. The entrees. My wife is lactose intolerant, and often buns for burgers include milk in the making of the dough (usually to help the yeast bloom). We asked the young lady serving the appetizer if she could find out whether the buns had milk in them, and we were happy to find out that they didn't. Wouldn't have changed the order, but my wife wouldn't have been able to eat the bun. Typically we order burgers medium rare, and often what we get back is medium, at best. The burger was perfectly medium rare with a good char on the surface, so a hot grill and attention to how meat cooks. The fries have a battered texture that provides extra crisp on the outside and nice and tender on the inside. Way to go! The pork cutlet is actually TWO pork cutlets, pounded to within a quarter inch of it's life, breaded, pan fried, and served with a butter lemon sauce. A good browning of the breading, tender meat, and the butter/lemon sauce enhances the flavor of the pork without getting in the way of the meat flavor. The collards. I mean, the collards! I don't exactly know what they're doing with the collards, but they need to keep doing it! I think it's a bit of sugar which cuts the usual sharp flavor of collards and just lets the greens and the meat they're cooked with come through. Excellent treatment of a side. I was also happy to find that they bake their mac and cheese and serve it with a light Ritz cracker crust. The M&C held together on the fork, wasn't soupy, had a good flavor with the noodles cooked a nice al dente, and the cracker "crust" provided a good texture. They have a key lime pie on the menu that is made in house, and I happen to be a key lime pie junky. So we ordered a slice. Served with a dollop of whipped cream on top, it was dense and silky and tart enough. The graham crust held together and was a nice bed for the creamy custardy goodness on top. Like key lime pie? Get a slice. You won't be disappointed. Good atmosphere and engaged staff, great food from appetizer through desert, and a fine example of good dining in Columbus. Stopped here on our drive through to Montgomery. It's a convenient little stop with a lot to choose from on the menu. Our server couldnt ha e been more delightful. But, unfortunately, my husband's burger was way overdone. I ordered the grilled chicken and had her add cheese. It was really good, and was served with the best doublefried, crispy fries I've had in a long time. Hubby ordered the poutine burger, which also came with fries. The gravumy was salty, and the cheese curds were deep fried. We arent really sure why she asked how he wanted it cooked, since it was almost too dry to eat. It's probably a great place to hang out with friends for a game after work, but it was a little noisy for lunch. read more

Went to marks city grill for lunch today and it did not disappoint! Got seated quickly and attended to fast. I ordered the Cajun chicken pasta that our server recommended and it was amazing! The sausage that's in it added a bit of spice, not too powerful, just enough to give it more flavor! Very creamy and delicious! Definitely recommend it if you go.
