If you are a single guy trolling for a babe, the Great Clips, Clip Joynts and such may offer you some opportunity. This is a barbershop for men in search of a good haircut and shave. This ain't a salon, stylist attended, mousse infested, girlie joint where they put hairclips in your hair to hold it out of the way whilst they trim the underlayer of hair. (THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE GONE TO YOUR WIFE OR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE SALON TO PLEASE HER, KNOW OF WHAT I SPEAK). It causes me to shudder just thinking about it!!! At the Countyrside Barbershop, there are two barberchairs, two barbers - Fred and usually Jerry (now that Vick has passed away) or a stand-in from time to time. There are 6 waiting chairs and a rack with reading material. Soft jazz or Rat-Pack era stuff is coming out of the radio and the conversation consists of; fishing, hunting, vacation spots, team sports, politics, the weather and the way it used to be back in the day. You can get a good, straight razor shave and a splash of Lilac Vegetal in addition to your haircut if you really want to get the whole experience. This is a no bullshit, keep your place in line, get in, get out shop. The reading material is always current, conversation is light but friendly. Newcomers are always welcome. There are always hot tips on the best fishing spots in the midwest (except for a couple of regular jokers who have the balls to go to South America for stupid peacock bass and babble about it like I care) . I tried this place out after reading some yelp reviews when looking for a barbershop in the area. Upon arrival I saw a hand written sign on the door stating someone would be back in 15 min. I must have arrived right as they left cause about 20 min later they opened back up. They do not offer shave service which is really what I was looking for, but the hair cut was decent. read more

I was recently out in Illinois because of a class I was taking out at the EMD plant in Lagrange, I stayed at the Countryside Best Western and needed a place to get my haircut, so I typed in Barbershops in my GPS and this one came up. I've been tired of the uni-sex salons for some time now and have recently fell in love with the atmosphere in all male barbershops. I went to this one basically because it was close.. Boy am I glad I did. The way these guys can cut hair is great. I wish they were back home in Maryland so I could go here regularly. Instead of getting the elctric trimmers out to trim the back of my neck, they used a straight razor. Ive never had that done before. It was awesome. Don't know the name of my barber (it was the one closest to the cash register) but he was great. Nice conversation and great haircuts, that's why love barbershops.
