What a fun find! A friend of mine lives in this area and we had Sunday lunch here one day...it was delicious! Simple and yummy comfort food. This is our first stop at this restaurant. We were in Madisonville around 4:30 & looking for a place to eat supper. We found this place on Yelp & thought we would give it a try. The food was excellent. My wife ordered fish with baked beans. They allowed her to substitute the included salad for a second side dish. She got potato salad as the substitute. I ordered country fried steak with a baked potato and a salad. All of the portions were large. I was satisfied after eating and my wife got a carry out. They had a special tonight. "All you can eat fish & Shrimp" with French fries & hush puppies for $12.99; BBQ Chicken with side & salad for $9.99; and Sugar Cured Ham with side & salad for $8.99. I recommend this place. We passed through and found this place via yelp. The customer service and staff are super nice and very friendly. The all you can eat fish is good, our only complaint is you get very tiny fillets and some were a bit over cooked. The flavor is really good and fresh tasting. This is one of the nicest restaurants in this area. They serve a range of food that will appeal to anyone from kids to those looking for something reasonably priced to those looking for a nice meal that costs a little more. The atmosphere is country home but it feels a little nicer than other country restaurants around here. Maybe it's the fountain out front or the receiving room. No need to dress up but if you're in you're wearing a dress or a tie after church on Sunday, you won't feel out of place. read more

I had the Fish Dinner with hushpuppies and broccoli side. The fish was haddock and fried well with a cornmeal based breading. Had some great pieces with only one ore two small ones that were a little dry. Hushpuppies were ok, but a little on the dark/overdone side.Portions were large and the service was good. Looking at the meals from the rest of the family there were no negative issues with any meal. Mostly everyone commented about being 'stuffed', which is a good thing. read more

I stopped here bc Yelp said 23 reviews at 4 stars.... This place appeared clean but it wasn't the best of experiences. Let me explain what happened at 3:30 in the afternoon when it wasn't busy! The sweet tea was "old" tasting. The waitress was flaky and forgot us multiple times even though there were 3 waitresses and only 5 tables being occupied. The kitchen had a fire and had to use an extinguisher while we were there. It smelled horrible but we had already ordered and my husband wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. While waiting for our food a waitress called out over tables to another waitress asking what the name of the waitress that use to work there. The one that had a husband who is in prison. The inappropriate conversation in front of customers went on for a few minutes. By the way, that waitress they were talking about is now unemployed but she had gone to work at the Waffle House. There was something Mexico. #ridiculous I Ordered a bacon cheese burger. It tasted like it came straight off the Sysco truck. My husband ordered country fried steak. He said it was good but I was concerned why the side of his plate was smeared with char when his food wasn't charred. I was done at this point but My husband wanted pie. the waitress took so Much time between leaving him the dessert menu and taking his order that she was able to rewrite the specials board in the alcove, fill the salts and whatever else she did behind the scenes. Delicious fish and amazing chicken tenders. Servers are friendly and helpful if a little slow, and sides such as cole slaw (typical chopped recipe) and hush puppies (simple corn meal recipe) are comparable to other restaurants in the same vein, but all in all a great stop for lunch. Best fish I've had in a long time. It is clean, cute and homey with single bathrooms (always a plus with a 5-year-old)! It's a very casual, laid back and relaxed place. My go-to fish place. My dad brought me here for all you can eat fish one day and I've been coming back ever since. They rotate between fish & chicken and fish & popcorn shrimp. It's served with coleslaw, fries and hushpuppies ( you get refills on those too if you want). For $12 you can definitely get your fill and the fish is really good, freshly battered.. Not that frozen square junk other places serve. It's like a fish fey at dad's without dad having to do all the work. Lol. There was one time the oil needed changed, you could taste a little burnt taste on the fish thats typical of old oil but they'd probably just been so busy that day and couldn't change it out, so you might want to try to get there earlier rather than later. The shrimp didn't have the burnt taste, so it was just in one of the fryers. But our of at least half a dozen times that's only occurred once, so good average overall and it wasn't completely in edible. It's easy to miss this place, it's tucked away on 411 beside a Weigel's, but watch for the billboards and give them a try. My stepmom usually orders a Reuben sandwich, she says that they have the best and my grand always loved their patties melts. Hubby tried a steak last time I brought him and he said it was also very good and cooked just right. Highly recommend. read more

Alas! I get to be another first! This place has fried pickle spears. In fact if it can be fried they probably are doing it. All you can eat fried fish everyday. The food was excellent! The waitress was rude to us immediately upon sit down. Rushed us to order. Since it was our first time there, we asked what was suggested she seemed annoyed. Nonetheless, 45 minutes later after ordering the all you can eat. We still hadn't received our food. We were ignored by the waitress. We continued to wait and saw 3 other tables who were seated after us get their food. She kept apologizing to the other tables for their 10 minute wait when we waited almost an hour for our food. The waitress was wearing yoga pants that, let's just say was too revealing nor appropriate for a restaurant. Horrible attitude. Horrible service. The food was mediocre at best. The fish wasn't even descaled decently. It still had skin on it. I would've understood the wait if the food was incredible but alas I was deceived. Captain D's had better seafood than this place especially for the price $35 for 2 people with the horrid experience. Definitely not worth it. I know I won't be dining there again. It's worth the note that the owner responds only to the good reviews and not the negative ones which shows how they view their customers. If it were me, I'd try to reach out to those dissatisfied and try to rectify the situation. Poor business practices at best. read more
