I recently adopted a dog and wanted to get him neutered. I made an appointment with VCA for a pre-op checkup, even though I had provided paperwork that stated he was healthy and good for the procedure. The doctor examined my dog and brought him to the back room to get some blood work done before scheduling for his operation. In most cases, don't they usually do the blood work in front of you..? Anyways..during the pre-op, the doctor stated that my dog had a condition where one of his testicles was retained, but that he was still able to go on with the procedure. I made the appointment and was given a quote of $450, which was also confirmed by the vet. The day comes where I have to drop my dog off. One of the staff members brings me a run down of the procedure and tells me it would cost $562+ because of the retained testicle. I told the staff that I was given a quote of $450 and he stated that they were not able to do the procedure for that amount. He basically told me to pay up or go somewhere else. I should've gone somewhere else, but chose to stay, mainly because I wanted the procedure done. I'm writing this review because I felt it was unprofessional of the staff to quote me a price knowing the condition of my dog and then changing the price at the last minute. VCA is in the service of saving animals and making it affordable for all. I'll know for next time to find a place that cares about a dog's well being and not so much about collecting money. What a shame, VCA. Update: manager called me the day of the procedure and apologized for the miscommunication. Refunded me the extra cost. Thank you much Elissa. Fairly certain this place overcharges for certain procedures. I went to an emergency hospital and got an X-ray for my cat there for $300. A recheck X-ray at this place was about $550 for no apparent reason. read more

Dr. Maggiolo did a thorough exam on my cat. I had a few minor concerns and I admire him for not pushing testing or medications. It is my option if I want routine bloodwork for $417 but that seems exorbitant ; but again there was no pressure for me to incur extra costs. thank you! read more

DO NOT GO HERE PLEASE KEEP LOOKING; One of my family members came here twice, first time the vet was a female Vet she was nice and everything went well. Second time it was a male Vet and he was arrogant, disrespectful, show no love to the puppy. He was going to put three vaccines on a toy puppy at the same time when they only asked for one vaccine which it was the rabies. I have six dogs some older me are so are younger. I mention to him I have experience with toy dogs and also that I have visited multiple VCA hospitals and the vets would never try to putting three vaccines at a time because of there's size. His reply was very sarcastic saying to me that I can have 3000 dogs or that he had 2 3000 dogs... anyways to make the story short they were trying to charge my family for a first time visit fee when it was their second time and for vaccines they never asked for, also the puppy is over weight and they didn't even mention that. Is like they want your dog to get sick. Also the lady in the front said the manager will call and no one ever did. Please do yourself a favor a don't bring your dog here, find a place that will treat your dog with love and care about their health. read more

Stay away from this place! My dog had a dental cleaning procedure done here. Not sure what went wrong, but immediately after he had issues with his balance for a few days. He then got a skin infection from the shaving that was done by the vet for the IV. When I returned so that it can be looked at, I was charged a few more hundred dollars for the office visit and medication. They refuse to even consider discounting anything. The staff is so rude. I guess that explains why the staff is always changing. This place is just a rip off. Our pet babies deserve much better read more

We have been going here for about 20 years. Everyone here is wonderful. They have worked with us to care for all our pets (cats, a turtle, & a mouse). They have helped find financing options when one cat needed surgery, recommended other specialty facilities for two of our cats that had cancer, and have been amazingly caring when it can time to let one go. They give several options & understand that most people don't have unlimited funds to finance the care for our pets. Not only do we love the people there, so do our pets! I cannot recommend it enough. We still bring our cats there, even though we live an hour away and have a veterinary clinic 5 minutes away. read more

Unfortunately, I had to put my cat Tux to sleep on Saturday 2/13/2021. He was under the care of Dr. Maggiolo, for 5 months. I have all good things to say about VCA. Dr. Maggiolo is a very caring and kind vet. I would recommend this facility. Too bad that they didn't have 24 hour care. read more

We were very pleased with our first visit and consultation with Dr. Angelo Maggiolo at County Animal Clinic for our senior cat. The staff was warm and welcoming (and were very efficient when we made our appointment by phone) and the appointment began on time -- at most 5 or 10 minutes after the scheduled appointment, if that. Dr. Maggiolo was extremely thorough yet gentle in examining Joey. We requested that Joey's blood pressure be taken and the result was several readings -- I think as many as seven -- which is far more than our usual vet does. Dr. Maggiolo carefully examined the records from Joey's recent hospitalization and offered practical advice. He was encouraging and positive and plainly appreciated our care and concern. He had been recommended to us by a former pet owner (who had moved away so could no longer use him) and we would second that recommendation to others. We also appreciated the clinic's follow-up: to see how Joey was doing, to see if we had any questions or needed any med refills, and when I requested it, to provide me with all the notes and readings from the visit. Overall, an excellent experience. We were also impressed at the transparency vis-a-vis the charges which (by NYC standards) were quite reasonable. read more

I have been taking my cat to County animal clinic for over 16 yrs and I have to say they are the best. The staff at the front desk are always polite and very helpful. Dr. Maggiolo has been treating my cat Lexi for kidney disease. He is always kind, patient and very thorough. I never feel rushed and he takes the time to explain his diagnosis. Dr. Kim is really good as well. The Vet technicians are awesome at what they do. I especially am grateful for Dawn. She is very attentive and gentle with my cat. I think she's awesome. Don't be late. I've been an established customer of VCA for over 10years. Unfortunately, I was running late (9 month old & puppy make for some interesting adventures!) as a courtesy and since I'm never late I called the office to inform them I'd be there in 15min. After being on hold for 5minutes, at which point I was about 8minutes away, I was told I'd have to reschedule as they could not accept a late client. I explained to Zeke that I was already in my way and he told me I could reschedule. It's truly an eye opener when offices are inflexible. Furthermore, when my previous dog passed away, the office forgot to call me and inform me that her ashes were ready. She sat there for two weeks and I didn't know until I called them to ask if she was ready to be picked up. I'm truly disappointed in the ethics of this establishment. read more

Where do I begin. I've been to this place several times with my German Pointer. They are very close to home, and the people at the counter in the front seemed friendly enough that I was comfortable coming back a few times. Big mistake apparently. First of all - prices on everything in here are astronomical. I don't know if they have equipment from the future in the back or something, but I don't imagine there's anything to justify being slapped with bills that are not only hundreds of dollars to begin with, but hundreds over the quote they initially give you, every time your dog steps on something and hurts his paw. The prices always seemed a little off, but I had multiple people in here tell me that "the only place cheaper is the ASPCA and they have shitty service." I'm usually a pretty skeptical guy and I have a decent nose for bullshit, but I bought this line the first two times I heard it. The straw that broke the camel's back and led me to decide that I would never walk in here again, was a story that took place on Christmas Eve 2015. I think this story is a clear example of one of two things: 1- Incompetence, or 2- Exploitation / Opportunism (as in a vulture) Either way its bad: My dog woke up one morning acting sluggish, not like himself and with trouble eating. I gave him a good once-over to see if I could spot anything strange. I find that his lower gums on one side are swollen. Figures he was reluctant to eat. I go to this place to get an idea of what is causing the swelling. The doctor takes one look at it and tells me its a tumor. Not only is it a tumor but tumors like these in dogs' mouths tend to be cancerous, albeit they are usually removed with a decently high success rate. His recommendation for a next step was to come in the following Monday so that the dog could get a biopsy, which BTW, is going to cost me over $2,000 for some fucking reason. So there I am, in tears, as the doctor puts together this insane quote, when it hits me: "should a biopsy be this expensive?" So I ask "why so much?" I get that same line about the ASPCA being the only cheaper place and immediately my bullshit detector goes off (although I admit a little late by this point). Here's the kicker - the swelling went down after some antibiotics. I went to another vet, and he said there was nothing there obviously indicative of a tumor, probably just an infected cut. I told him my story - not only was he way more compassionate but he threw together a quick estimate of what it might cost if I was still worried and wanted to do a biopsy or even remove a tooth - under $800. County Animal Clinic is not only looking to squeeze every last penny from your wallet, but they are willing to do it to you on Christmas Eve, and after inciting you into a state of panic and emergency because your dog has cancer in his mouth. If you value your time, money and emotional well-being, you would do well to stay far, far away from this den of hyenas. read more

We went for a free first-time check-up in September for our recently adopted 12-year-old cat, Fluffy. Our vet, Dr. Young, provided a cursory exam and was cool and distant in demeanor. Fluffy's rheumy eyes and bad breath were dismissed as gum disease and a viral infection that would clear up on its own. We received no guidance in gum treatment. Four months later, Fluffy's symptoms worsened. We took him elsewhere and were astounded by the quality of treatment, reasonable rates, and warm, compassionate service. Fluffy's ear mites were immediately treated and we are currently undergoing antibiotic treatment for his gum infection. We couldn't be more grateful for the top treatment we finally received. read more

Worst. Vets. Ever. Avoid this place like the plague. My cat had roundworms, and I had to take him to CAC for treatment. Not only the vet was rude as hell, but he didn't even properly treat my cat- only gave him the initial dewormer treatment. It turns out that you need give your cat another dose of the medicine six weeks later to completely kill off the parasites. The vet never gave me that second dose, and sure enough my cat became sick again. Paid $400 for completely nothing. I had to take him to another vet, who initially treated him the first time, and sent me home with the follow-up treatment. He's been worm-free ever since. read more

First time bringing my cat here and wow! Both my husband and myself were veryyyy impressed with everything. From the moment we walked in they instantly greeted us and they had yummy treats at the entrance. Dr. Sylva Kim was amazing! Very personable, she showed a lot of care, had empathy (in which you don't see this at many vets). She made us very comfortable and addressed any concerns or questions we may have had. From the front desk gentleman to the last contact with the vet assistant it was by far one of our best experiences. I have been taking my dogs to County Animal Clinic since 1993. They are the only vets I trust! I have been to other vets and did not find the vets and staff to be as competent or the care as complete as what I have experienced at County Animal Clinic. I have many stories I could tell you about how much better they are, but I don't have time to write it all down right now -- it's 20 years worth of visits with 4 different dogs. Right now, the Dr. my current dogs are seeing is Dr. Nazar. We also saw Dr. Maggiolo once when Dr. Nazar was not in. I highly recommend both of them. Some people complain about their prices. I don't know, I just know they get it right when other vets are getting it wrong. When I have more time I will write up the stories as examples of what I'm talking about, but it will take hours because I have so many. read more

If you love your pet, go elsewhere. There are plenty of other vets out there & if you are willing to drive into the city ASPCA or the Humane Society gives better quality care. This place cares more about profit than your pet. I was highly uncomfortable that Dr. Gangadin was more interested in giving me an estimate before giving my dog a wellness exam. I was charged for a medication I paid for that my pet couldn't even take because no one had bothered to return my call. They were supposed to call me, but didn't do so until 3 days later. How do you give your patient medication which they can't even take? Charged me for medication that my pet might not even be able to take -- depending on the test results. Shouldn't you be giving me the medication afterwards not before. Watch out for unnecessary tests that they try to force on you. Watch out for the scare tactic. Go to another vet. The first qualification for vets should be that they love & care for animals not whats in your wallet. Take your pet somewhere else. read more

I have been going to County Animal Clinic for approximately 10 years, with 3 different dogs, and have found all the vets and vet techs to be very professional, caring, friendly and compassionate. Several of my visits have been emergencies, and I was always presented with a written estimate of charges that I had to agree to and sign before the vet would "admit" my dog. (A significant portion of this estimate had to be paid immediately.) The written estimate was presented to me after the veterinarian had verbally informed me of the estimated cost of service. I find their prices to be reasonable and their hours to be very accommodating. read more

This place just wants to take your money and push unnecessary vaccines. I brought my nine-year-old lab there and they never rectified his problem. When I brought him in for the follow up they didn't even know his name and had his age wrong. He wanted to push more vaccines on my dog and I told him simply that you did this last time and I do not want anymore. After I left the receptionist was very nasty. I was told to come here by the place I adopted my rescue and that the exam would be FREE. It wasn't. They ordered me to pay $75 which was very last minute. I tried to give my partners card information over the phone. Only to find out that a front desk employee tried to purchase clothing from Urban Outfitters with his information! I am disgusted! I was torn about what rating to give because I had different experiences. Dr.M is as Fantastic as a Vet could be !! He goes the extra mile, and really treats his cases like patients. If you have questions, he answers them and is willing to intelligently discuss risk tradeoffs. Brilliant man, excellent judgement, probabilistic thinker. Stays bedside for critical patients. He also once helped me dose antibotics for a feral cat with a really bad eye/head infection that swelled up so big it must have been in terrible pain. I took photos of it with my cell phone and emailed them to him. Most vets would have simply washed their hands of it. The stray cat responded to treatment in less than a week. What a great guy that doctor is. I had less luck with a different doctor at the same clinic, but that doctor is gone from the clinic now. They have chemo and radiation and special programs here for dogs with cancer. So this is probably a better place than your neighborhood corner vet for that. If your pet has to stay overnight the keepers are really gentle people. Overall thumbs up ! read more

County did reach out and totally credited the $80 so I thank them for that. I kept my follow-up Lyme booster appointment (with a tech) and was told that would be under $30 - Was charged $120. They gave my dog an additional shot (no idea why) and then an hour later the site swelled up and she had an allergic reaction. We took her back and they gave her an antihistamine. She's still in pain in that area my poor baby. Not liking this place. Even though I have great insurance that pays 90% of my pet's care I do believe the prices at County are ridiculous and will never ever ever go back. read more

I have the most amazing vet and vet surgeon in the world. It is rare to find a place that is so compassionate and sincerely concerned about your pets well being. And will call to check up on a daily basis, without being asked, and deal with your frequent freak outs while over analyzing their poop. Thank you so much Dr. Young & Dr. Peta for being amazing! My dog has been seen by both Dr. Maggiolo and Dr. Livingston. Both are fantastic! The doctors and staff really care about the animals. Several times they have called to check up on my dog after he had been brought in and they have even recommended products to help him (he has some anxiety issues) that worked really well. All too often people are quick to write about negative experiences and tend to spend little time, if any, communicating positive ones. Barney Google is our 8 year old (?) Shih Tzu rescue. He has been cared for by special people in the County Animal Clinic in Yonkers, NY. Several weeks ago, a very serious problem was discovered by our veternarian, Dr. Angelo Maggiolo. After blood test results revealed elevated liver function values, Dr. Maggiolo ordered an ultrasound and several other tests. The ultrasound showed a mass on both the liver and one on Barney's adrenal glands.Prior to the consult with the surgeon, Dr. Maggiolo sent comprehensive records to her. During the consult, the surgeon praised Dr. Maggiolo's diagnostic skills. She said that if he hadn't recognized the seriousness of the situation, (large malignant liver tumor and enlarged benign adrenal gland, which necessitated immediate removal) Barney could have bled to death. We also want to thank Dr. Maggiolo for his professionalism, expertise and concern through the years that he has taken care of many of our cats and our first dog, Waldo. So, thank you, Dr. Maggiolo, for being there for Barney and doing everything right. Too bad human physicians aren't as conscientious!!!! Kudos also go to Elissa, Hospital Manager; Zeke, Massimo and Kim; Lorelei, Christine, Erica and Jasmine; Emmanuel, Darren and Elvis. If we omitted any other individuals who care for Barney, we apologize. Please know that we appreciate each and everyone of you!!!! And how could we not give Elvis, Barney's "best bud," a real special "thank you"? We are grateful to him for giving Barney Google a medicated bath almost every week for the past 2 years. He always gives our dog the care and love which we know Barney truly apreciates (especially now, since his surgery). Barney adores him. I recently moved to Yonkers from Manhattan and had a new 1 month old kitten, and reluctantly decided to get a new vet as I'd had 25 years with my previous vet (in Manhattan). Well, I decided to try VA County Animal Clinic and was honestly very pleasantly surprised. First of all, the first visits for both of my cats were done at no charge. Dr. Sylvia Kym saw both of my cats (one 7 years and one 3 months of age). She recommended that my kitten wait until 6 months of age to be spayed and that we take a wait and see attitude dealing with coughing issues that my 7 year old has. In both cases, she was correct. My 7 year old still coughs occasionally but is doing well. Dr. Kym spayed my kitten in February (6 months old) and she is doing great! In addition, Mossimo and the rest of the front desk staff are knowledgeable with both the veterinary and financial aspects of pet parenting, and are extremely helpful. I am extremely happy with this practice. read more
