The Vets here are all specialist from the highest rated Vet schools (Penn, Cornell, Tufts). They have all been so wonderful as I deal with this trauma. Empathetic, professional, experts. The staff is equally wonderful. They make my pup feel so comfortable. She is doing chemo now after a week of radiation, and so far her recovery has been excellent. I will preface this note by saying that in 2021, this ER was a god send when my dog was very ill and needed to be with euthanized. It was a compassionate and professional experience. When my new pet needed care this weekend (April 26, 2026) I immediately went there only to discover that this not the same facility. Yes, the staff was kind. The care was thorough. But they are admittedly experiencing a staffing shortage. There are even signs around the facility admitting that this is the reason for their long delays and lack of emergent specialty care. Fortunately Veterinary Emergency Group in White Plains was available. Please consider taking your pet there first, instead. read more

They told me they could help me in an hour, I came in around 11pm where the man at the desk told me to wait as he checked it they could take him, even though i called and they said I could but they felt it wasn't critical, told the people after me the same thing, and then called me back up to say I would have to wait 4-6 hours as my cat was still breathing and it was not critical and I asked how he knew, my cats breathing was not good, although yes perhaps he was breathing so I guess that couldn't be considered critical in their eyes, hours later he passed away - when I tell you RUN, run - not only did they let my baby leave when he was in fact not well - and then told me they could take him back and lied and then the front desk guy with the blonde hair and glasses argued with me and the customers right after me, we were both lied to and told our cases weren't emergent, it was and you guys should literally be ashamed of yourselves - and I have one star because I had to not because I wanted to read more

Cannot say enough about the outstanding care we received here. We were visiting from the west coast with our dog when she started experiencing signs of salmon poisoning, which is something that's very rare on the east coast, but is common where we live. We brought her in and were seen quickly, and we got the meds we needed to treat her. The staff were wonderful; they listened to us, and they treated our pup with great care. If I could give minus star I would !! This place is far the worse I've ever experienced while away on vacation , my Dog Sitter saw my babies eye infected. He takes him to Banfield, which I have insurance, for they tell him the doctor is not in at normal hours and it's best he goes to ASC Why do I pay insurance for five years? Never had one answer I go tO ASC in Yonkers and they, see my baby after three hours of WAITING TO TELL HIM TO take meds which I had already for his eye. They claim They tested him while they didn't touch Hilmi They charge a fee 295 and then want more for testing and treatment coming out to over $600! I then find out my Amex card has been applied. It once but 4 separate times "fraud" while my sitter already paid for the amount due in full. I wish I was there as they took advantage of a 17 year old high school kid and threatened him they won't release dog if bill not paid. Once I get back I will seek legal Action as they did nothing else but scam me and the poor kid out of money for NO SERVICE at all. I brought my cat in for a urinary issue and had a very disappointing experience. The veterinarian was noticeably cold & unfriendly, which made the visit feel impersonal. The cost estimate for the exam and X-ray was high, but I expected that going in. However, I was surprised to later discover hidden charges--specifically for pain medication--that had not been disclosed during the visit. The vet never informed me that she was prescribing pain medication, and the cost was bundled into the X-ray charge without explanation. I only became aware of the medication when the staff member at discharge began giving me instructions for administering it. When I expressed confusion, I was informed that the medication had already been paid for as part of the X-ray fee. I asked for a refund for the undisclosed medication charge, but the Spanish receptionist--who appeared irritated by the request--said she was unable to process it and advised me to call back the next day to request the refund that she was incapable of processing. When I followed up, I spoke with someone who claimed to process the refund. However, I never received it. After several calls and emails, the clinic now claims to have no record of any refund being issued or even discussed. I've requested to speak with a manager four times and never heard back. Consequently, I will be disputing the charge through my credit card company. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience--one that lacked transparency, communication, and basic customer service. read more

I came to the Yonkers specialty care hospital at 2pm for my beloved pup. They charged me as soon as I walked in for an exam, my pup was sooo weak you can see him suffering. I waited for four hours and an half with no examination done yet. I asked the young girls at the front desk multiple times for updates and they were on their cell phone or just taking their time. Especially the PM receptionist. They saw my distress and worry and acted careless. Finally, they stated that King was not examined yet due to his vitals showing normal and stable so the doctor was attending to other critical cases coming in. I asked how much longer and they stated that it would be about 3 hours longer because they were short staff and that was the only doctor on duty. I would have to wait for the PM doctor to come in at 9-9:30 pm. I became in a deeper distress and anxiety. I asked for a refund and took King to another emergency vet. Come to find out my king had an obstruction going on the whole time. HE WAS ALSO A CRITICAL CASE!! It was too long before the surgery took place. King has passed away by the time her received surgery at another hospital. My pup might've been saved at the Animal specialty care Center had they done their exam. I did everything in my power to save my baby and I will not rest until I get justice. Vets and staff really need to learn that our pets are like our loved ones and just as serious as a human being. King was my all!!. I have 2 other babies Starlet and Rocky and I fear for them. I am so scared of vets now. Early this morning, my dog passed away at this hospital. He had cancer and had been receiving radiation therapy there. Apparently, he could some kind of infection, and in his weakened state, was unable to recover. I have a few complaints. First, he was clearly weakened from so many rounds of anesthesia, and radiation. I don't believe it was responsible to keep doing so many of these treatments every week. The week before he died, he had 5 treatments. The oncologist never discussed this very delicate cost/benefit analysis with us. One of the contributing factors in his death, was poor digestive motility, which I believe was a side effect of so much anesthesia. It would have been nice if the doctor could have prescribed feeding instructions to us, such as only giving him small meals at a time. Second, nobody called us last night, to tell us his condition was declining. When I called to check on him, they told me his breathing was subpar, and he had pneumonia. We thought he was going to be OK. If I hadn't had called, the next communication would have been the phone call at 2:00 this morning, telling us he was dying. When I spoke with the doctor, last night, she was very cold, and curt with me. After telling me about his declining condition, she said, "Well, you know he is an older dog and may not make it." I said, "He's not even 8." She said, "Well, German Shepherds don't live as long as small dogs." I told her that my husband would come, and visit right away, and she proceeded to tell me that he wouldn't be allowed there after 11:00, even though it was 10:00, and we just heard for the first time that he was failing. I asked her to make an exception, so he could see the dog before he goes, and she said we'd have to take that up with the management on Monday. Her insensitivity was palpable. Furthermore, I was told he was uncomfortable with the makeshift oxygen they had to give him, because at 80 lbs, he was just too big for the more comfortable one. I asked how they could make him more comfortable, and she said he could have anti-anxiety meds, which I requested. She said it would take hours to kick in. Why didn't they just give that to him, before? Why didn't they have comfortable oxygen to fit a larger dog? He's not that big? I was glad that when my husband saw him for the last time, that he was completely sedated, and out of it. When, and if we get our next dog, I will look for a more compassionate hospital. horrible experience, gave my puppy a false positive parvo test just so i would pay up. my puppy came home with me SICKER than when i brought him in. I was there for FOUR hours only for them to tell me he had parvo (which ended up being false). Later that day when I went to see my pup, they said he was fine and were comfortable sending him home with me. I asked them to retest him TWICE and the test came back negative BOTH times only a couple hrs later. I waited EIGHT HOURS only for them to discharge my puppy, give me his meds & a care plan. I can't thank the caring and passionate staff of the Animal Specialty Center enough for the wonderful palliative care they gave to our beloved Nia, an 18-year old maltepoo in recent days. She had been ailing over the last several weeks and when it was evident that she was declining rapidly, we took her to the ASC for special end of life care. We were able to be with her and comfort her as she slipped away from us. The staff was warm and caring and allowed us limitless time to be with our precious Nia. Initially the place is clean the staff are welcoming. I put my pet down and the staff did not communicate that they ran out of ink for the paw print. Because I thought I was getting a paw print I turned the other services down. When I spoke to Jacqueline a week later she was very dismissive, and accused me of knowing that they ran out of supply. My 15 year old dog had a tumor removed by the surgeon at Bandfield hospital in Yonkers. Due to poor care she started to bleeding heavy. I called Animal Specialty Center. Brianna explained to me what to do but I was so upset so Brianna went on line on her cell phone and made the emergency appointment for me. When I got to the hospital Brianna helped me relax. There wasn't any critical emergency so I was seen within 15 minutes. Dr. MacNamara took his time explaining everything to me. If I didn't understand he would continue to speak to me until I understood. He spoke to me on my cell and in person. He put a bandage around her and it stayed on. Thank you Brianna and Dr. MacNamara for your professionalism, kindness and good care. A few days later she stared bleeding heavy and I had to put her out of her suffering. read more

They also take great care of you when you have tosay goodbye to a pet. They have private rooms to say good to your loved ones. Brought 9yo cat in for an emergency. Positives: Staff was kind; vet techs were informative; they were open for a cat in crisis. Negatives: Extremely expensive -- all prices outrageously marked up, including meds. Given multiple pills for nauseous, vomiting cat, asked about liquid, was told "compounding would take at least two weeks" and "sometimes the liquid makes them foam at the mouth". Called back for liquid when three pills in one sitting were just not happening and... they actually have one liquid in house, which I can now pay more for. Cat still nauseous. Not much else locally if you have an animal in crisis after hours. They know it and charge you for it. Be aware and be sure you can't just wait for your own vet. read more

This is the WORST place in the Westchester area. I brought my dog in because it was a Sunday and she was vomiting the night before. When I brought her there I waited for 2 hours until they gave her blood tests and told me to take her home that she was okay and gave me nausea meds and I can give her solid food. The next day she wouldn't eat or drink and then I called them in the morning and I brought her back in and another doctor told me that I'm not giving my dog enough time to take the meds. She later died. This place is not where you want to take your animal to. I'm fighting this bill ONLY because they did not diagnose her correctly and was rude about it. I hope no one EVER has to go through something like this. It was just AWFUL and still keeps me up at night. It's 2 months and I feel like it just happened. We'd noticed some red flags on our Beagle for a few days and The Man took a Friday off to have her see her vet- mid morning at the Humane Society in 59th. The vet did preliminary tests and came back to tell Mr. Man, that Fudge needed overnight, medical care (none that Humane Society offers as they are a Clinic- not a Hospital). The Man just booked. And the hunting began...While the Man was in transit and heading north, I was at work calling a few places to get some quotes in Westchester and some in Greenwich. I also did some Bronx Yelp searches and stumbled on a few locations but based on the pictures I saw, I was completely put off. In this case, Bronx was a Negative! Back to Westchester and all arrows pointed to the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers. Almost noon and still at work, I answered basic and health questions about my dog. At this point, all the Man needed to do is show up and have someone greet him since I pre-registered her. Arrival was easy and Fudge was promptly tended to by Valerie. I'm not gonna lie to you, pricing here, is definitely expensive and a freaking big pill to swallow- as my fellow Yelper Amanda detailed, but my maternal mode kicked in quick and I couldn't lollygag any longer as my Beagle needed immediate attention. ASC indicated that during her stay along with that expensive price tag, they would offer extended services as well as medications. Fudge was admitted safe and sound and according to Mr. Man, ASC is a well-kept pet care facility. Very welcoming staff except for someone at the front desk, who seemed arrogant with his tone and The Man put a stop to that quick- after that, everything was fine. Everyone else, was very pleasant from Technicians to the Veterinarians. As soon as I left work and heading home, I called ASC to get a status on my Beagle. Sure enough, Valerie was compassionate and friendly over the phone, answered ALL my questions and assured me that Dr. Cazzolli would call me in the evening. And that's exactly how it went down, she mentioned the ongoing care that ASC would provide during her stay. And yes, I'll admit, I'm between a pet owner and a pet parent and to some, it may be a drastic move to spend so much on your pet, but I want to hold on to Fudge for many more years to come and wanted the best care for her- for the several days she was there- and ASC proved it. read more

A few people had steered me away from this animal hospital due to its supposed high costs, but I could not be more satisfied with the service I received from them. My beloved cat, my first pet of my own, had been sick with an undiagnosed illness for awhile and was being treated by my regular veterinarian. I woke up one morning to my cat seeming to be in extreme discomfort, and I just knew it was his time to go. As an animal lover, I had never felt so distraught, not only because I knew I'd lose him, but mostly because I knew he was suffering. I couldn't get in touch with my vet immediately so I called the Animal Specialty Center as it's the closest emergency facility to my home. I gave the details of the situation to the person who answered the phone and she told me it was unlikely they'd be able to accept my cat due to the number of high priority cases they had received overnight, but that she'd check with the doctor (and offered to refer me to another facility). To my surprise, the doctor told me to come right in! The staff took my cat from my car while I waited for his evaluation and invited me inside shortly after. They led me into a therapeutic-type room where I held my boy, and they repeatedly stressed to take as much time as I needed before beginning euthanasia; so accommodating of them, especially having heard they were booked with other critical cases. I was able to hold him throughout the entire process which was greatly appreciated as I didn't have hopeful expectations due to COVID restrictions. The staff was genuinely caring, patient, and sympathetic throughout my visit. The visit cost around $600 including private cremation which seemed quite reasonable. I was expecting to pay significantly more (and would have gladly done so, especially due to the kind and prompt service I received). When I picked up my cat's ashes I was so pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful gifts included with the cremation package! From my experience, this facility and their staff seemed to truly care about pets and their owners and offered me comfort when I expected nothing more than a business transaction. Be aware that protocols in place to prevent a overdose are easily bypassed! I took my dog there a few weeks back after he became very ill. The doctor who initially took care of my dog, told me that he had a fever of 105 and that once they stabilized him, the would feel comfortable sending him home if I felt comfortable taking his temperature and monitoring him for the next few days. I told the doctor that I would feel most comfortable that they kept him until they felt as though he was stable. The following day, I was told that his fever broke, but his kidney levels were a bit high and they wanted to keep him until they could bring those levels down to normal. 1 day turned to 2, 2 days to 3 and on the evening on the third day, I was called by the second doctor that started to care for my dog, and she wanted to tell me that she had some upsetting news. She proceeded to tell me that she prescribed a dose of medication for my dog, but the technician accidentally gave him 4 times the amount. I'd like to imagine that I reacted the same way that pet owner would. I demanded to speak with the medical director, Ashley Talarico. I received a call from her shortly after, and I was surprised and immediately more upset when I learned that the facility has a secondary protocol in place, to prevent a situation like this from happening. The technician purposefully bypassed this protocol and the worst case scenario happened. Understand one thing, when you bring in your pet for a minor issue, the services that they provide is satisfactory. Everything goes well, you're happy, your pet is healthy, and the staff is nothing by smiles. But the other end of the spectrum is a situation like mine. That when your pet goes in for something more advanced, and the staff commits a medical error, the responsibility of the medical staff is not to put you at ease and go above and beyond to correct their mistake, but rather defend themselves, their staff and attempt to make you believe everything they have done has been exceptional. I will not say that you should not bring you pet here, but I will say that there are other facilities that will do a much better job. read more

This place is absolutely awful. It cost us nearly $1000 just to walk in, get one xray and a lung cancer diagnosis, and euthanize our cat. They offered us pawprints, which we thought at the time was a nice gesture, as we had intended to take prints ourselves with our own ink and paper, but they offered the service and we gladly accepted. A month later, the pawprints never arrived in the mail. When we called to ask about it, an extremely rude secretary casually (verbally lol) shrugged and told us that not only did they not have the pawprints, they have no record of them ever having been made and no record of having mailed them out, and if they HAD been made or mailed out, they have absolutely no way of verifying it. Obviously this is extremely distressing and frustrating news as our cat has been cremated, and those prints are now something we can never have due to their negligence, irresponsibility, and callousness. We asked what we were supposed to do now, to try and potentially locate these prints if they have been lost, and secretary's only response was a flippant "Well, it's a courtesy. So." When we became frustrated at the lack of care, sympathy, or even apology for this massive failure on their part (admittedly with an "f" bomb or two), this secretary hung up on us without a word. On top of that absolutely terrible employee, the doctor who euthenized our cat made MULTIPLE inappropriate jokes about Michael Jackson's death by drug overdose as she injected our cat with the drugs intended to kill him. While some people may be comforted by that, but we didn't appreciate either the humor or the content of the joke in such a devastating moment. read more

We had such a great experience thanks to the front office staff (Jojo), and the amazing medical professionals, Dr. Gaymon and Valerie. Due to Covid, they are only doing curbside drop off and pick up. We went today after being recommended by our vet when our puppy had bruising near her spay incision. All three folks we worked with were kind, professional, and helpful. They took the time to explain what needed to be done and our bill, and were very helpful and patient. The wait was minimal on a Sunday afternoon-- I recommend you call ahead to ask what the wait is like if you are able to. They took our puppy, Pickles, in for a few hours to do some tests, which allowed us to conveniently go home and wait instead of being stuck in a waiting room or a parking lot. And thankfully Pickles is doing fine! The bills were not cheap, but this is to be somewhat expected from an emergency clinic. Just to be seen costs $190, plus any additional costs from blood tests, etc. This is why pet insurance is so important to help owners manage the cost of their pet's health. The center was clean and welcoming. Most of the staff was amazing, friendly and helpful. With the exception of a woman named Liz(zy), maybe she was having a bad day but her attitude towards myself and others was unprofessional. let's hope she treats the pets with better care. read more

I have found my forever home with you guys as too many places are money driven now and I can say with a whole heart that all they care about is the well being of the animals. Very rough & rude !!!! only care about money money money NOT about your ailing pet ! took my baby maltipoo in the other room to get a shot and she was screaming for 4 mins straight , next day I took her to another vet and they gave her the same shot infront of me and she gave a little squirm but that was it ... who knows how rough they were with her for her to be screaming like that ... horrible people . They have you put yourself in a "queue" so you can wait from home and get called when they are ready. I called to check in and I showed up. After 3.5 hours of waiting, nobody seemed to care to even help me. I honestly think even if my dog was dying, they wouldn't help. Try anywhere else. Take the time to drive upstate and maybe you can save your pets life. Worse than a human hospital smh. 4 hours now, I'm going home. Hopefully my dog is safe so I won't have to sue. They need to hire better assistants too. Not being knowledgeable when someone has an emergency can cause problems on the owner as well. read more

This place SUCKS! They have you make appointments online they don't tell you that you may have to wait 6-7 hours before you can be seen based on others pets needs. I understand that more serious cases go first, however had this been explained from the beginning. I could have called around to other places instead of sitting around only to never be called.
