I came here with my pet pigeon who became lethargic within a weak. I've been to many different emergency vets and I was always sold a "pipe dream" or given false hope; or sent back home with a sick animal that was going to pass anyways after paying a large bill being promised they would make it. It was so different when I came here. Unfortunately, it was not the outcome I wanted - but the doctor (whose name begins with an M I believe, I'm sorry - I'm so bad with names!) informed me we can do all these procedures, but in the end my pigeon Lola was too far gone. It was the most humane thing to let her go. I really felt like I got all my questions answered, the doctors/vets/workers were so empathetic and kind to answer all my questions. If your animal is in an emergency, and you want the honest truth, and honest help from people who care about animals - come here. I brought our small dog there thinking it had ring worm. Hour and 1/2 later we were leaving with no clear diagnosis, no meds, not even a generic prescription, ah but $200 lighter was my wallet. Dr. Jekyll said she would email me something but nada. I'm sure these kids are fine with problems that don't require an analysis that they can't google. The guy before us was walking out with an urn filled with ashes after they fleeced him at the cash register for what was an obvious failure. My standard poodle ate quite a few chocolate cookies off the counter and I read that this is toxic and also potentially life threatening. Upon arriving a team of 4 staff members including Veterinarian Kelly immediately took action take her vitals, induce vomiting, reverse the vomiting process and hydrate with fluids. I have never seen such professional care in any situation that required immediate, emergency care. Highly recommend this facility for anyone who has a pet in need of quick and decisive emergency medical assistance. read more

No I do not recommend this business at all. A huge waste of money. It seems like they hire young kids that just play around lowkey and make jokes at serious things. They drained my cat of fluid and didnt test the fluid at all when my vet called them for a follow up on the fluid. Just made bets on how much fluid would come out of her. Then when we were walking out of the door tried to charge us 500 dollars more then the original price for stuff that we didnt ask for or that they didnt tell us we had to pay extra for just did it with no asking or knowledge that it would be more. Be very careful with this place. My friend took her dog there a few months ago because another vet sent her there because the dog had thrown up a rubber glove she had swallowed and was lethargic and not eating or drinking.so my friend took their dog to Yonker Animal Hospital as recommended and It was determined she had pancreatitis and diabetes. She had to stay there for two days for IV fluids, tubes in her nose and tests which totaled $8K. The Vets had are in serious condition and said her only chance was her staying there for days for treatment. When the owners of the dog informed the vet there that they couldn't afford to leave her there any longer, they recommended putting her down.They even told them that the dog was close to 10 years old when the owner knew for a fact she was only 6 years old. My friend had documents from when she was a puppy in 2020. The vets also wanted us to take here to a specialist claiming she might have cancer in her nose because she was breathing heavily. This was all too much, so my friends went there that evening ready ,but devastated, to put her to sleep. When they arrived, the owners noticed that their dog seemed a bit tired, but not on death's door as the vet had indicated. They decided to take her home against the vet's recommendations. They recommended leaving her there for more testing or putting her down. The owner nevertheless decided to take her home and see how she does for a couple of days. However, their dog needed Insulin which is very difficult to obtain quickly. The vet there gave her enough insulin for a couple of days when they checked her out, but the quickest we could get the additional veils needed was about a week. what they gave us would not last until then. They refused to sell us more. We were all terrified the dog would go into diabetic shock as a result. I had to get on the-phone and call every vet I knew to see if they had some of the needed insulin in stock and none did. The dog's owners placed an order with Chewy.com, immediately but it was a weekend so it would be several days before it would arrive and we only had enough insulin for another two days. When I called Yonkers Animal Hospital and told them we were not having success obtaining the insulin quickly from anywhere else, they continued to refuse to sell us enough to hold the dog over. To repeat, this is after spending over $8,000 in two days there! Desperate, they rationed the insulin giving her half the dose. I once again called Yonkers Animal Hospital and spoke to several nurses and couple of vets as shifts changed and, AGAIN, even though they had the needed Insulin in stock, they REFUSED to sell to us to keep the dog alive insisting that they couldn't. It may not be the case, but It sure as hell felt like they were punishing the owners for not leaving the dog there for them to milk us for thousands of dollars more. Finally, as the last of the insulin was about to run out, I got another vet at Yonkers Animal Hospital on the phone, I wish I remembered her name, and after begging her, she agreed to sell us enough for a few more days until the"Chewy" order arrived. To make a long story short, the dog, who was MINUTES away from being put down at the recommendation of this Animal Hospital is thriving. She gets regular insulin injections and is eating, drinking and even PLAYING normally.She looks GREAT! a couple of days after this ordeal, The owner took her to a vet I recommended who ran tests and saw NOTHING life threatening. Just needed the insulin and some antibiotics fora nasal infection. This may not be the norm for this hospital, but I thought it important to tell this story so that pet owners that read this are cautious when taking their pets there. It was an incredibly stressful and almost DEADLY & DEVASTATING experience. read more

I work at an animal shelter & i had to bring a lethargic, very sick cat to them urgently. They ran him in & multiple doctors & nurses immediately began working & doing incredible work. He unfortunately did not make it but the team at VEG made him comfortable & allowed me to be in a private room with him in his final moments. It was a heartbreaking experience but I couldn't have imagined a more comforting & helpful team to be there with me to make a horrible night, a little less horrible. I witnessed another horrific emergency arrive as I was there & saw them handle the situation with urgency & care. That situation didn't end well either but the dog had passed before arriving there. We took a family vacation to New York from Northern California and our puppy suffered a mishap involving his leash and a car door. Yes, it was my fault, and yes I feel terrible still today. He was a bit limpy but we thought it might be a strain but, in the morning, when he hadn't recovered any we took him to VEG on Christmas Eve. The service we experienced was incredible from the standard of medical care offered by Dr Adam S (his last name escapes me but it rhymes with Beaver) who was a new member of the team from Canada and was superb. He was empathetic, informative and took wonderful care of our little furry friend. They patched him up, gave him lots of lovely drugs to send him to sleepyland and we were able to enjoy our Christmas Eve. We had to return on Christmas Day because we had noticed a spot of blood on his paw, plot twist, it wasn't blood but he didn't like the look of the bandage job after a day and they redid it, all for no charge. So thank you VEG. Our Christmas plans may not have gone as expected but you made sure everything was taken care of so brilliantly. Cost wise, it wasn't cheap but it also wasn't horrible and fortunately we have insurance for this sort of thing but we were in for about $1500. Oh they have snacks, great coffee and even non-dairy creamer options so the humans get treats as well as the animals, but only if you're well behaved. read more

I have a bunch to say, and I really hope you don't just skip over it. I am frustrated for a few reasons: first, the doctor did not seem to take my concern seriously. She watched a video I brought in that was not the best quality (it was dark, mostly. Also not very long so it was hard to tell totally what was going on especially in a loud room). She decided that what she was seeing was just sneezing, and even when I said multiple times that it did not look like sneezing when it happened (I actually do know what sneezing cats look like), she was dismissive repeatedly and continued to say that it was just sneezing. Then, when she went over my options for treatment, she listed I think over $2,000 worth of tests and medications. When I asked what of that was actually necessary and urgent, she said that we could just do the medications and see. When I asked what would happen if we didn't do that, it turned out that none of it was necessary or urgent. It would be just as well to keep an eye on her for a few days and talk to our regular vet. At an emergency room I would hope that the recommendations of treatment are for things that are likely to be immanently life threatening, or close to. I would hope, not being a vet myself, that I would be able to trust an er vet to clearly tell me what is urgent and necessary. I feel that my anxiety was taken advantage of. What I wished would have happened was that the doctor had reassured me that my cat was going to be fine for a few days until I got in to see our regular vet and that no testing or anything else was necessary at that time (even if what I was seeing was not just sneezing). And, if there were things that were necessary and urgent, I would hope that the doctor would give options in a logical order of importance and urgency (like, let's do a chest x-ray first and see what the results are before we do blood work, or whatever), rather than presenting it as if it's a block of treatments and tests that should all be done right away. Overall I'm quite frustrated with the treatment and service I received at this ER. read more

I brought my sweet Juanito here after a scare of him sneezing blood. I called them, spoke with a vet over the phone and made an appointment for 45 minutes in advance. By the time we arrived, we walked right in and were immediately taken into a private room in the back. The vet techs and veterinarians were extremely professional and had excellent bedside manner towards me and my dog. They weighed him, took his temperature, and did an assessment of his mouth. Next, they ran some quick bloodwork and we had the results not even an hour later. I was extremely impressed with their services in making me and Juanito feel at ease during a time of uncertainty. They found the root of the problem to be a small hole in his mouth. They recommended us to visit our primary vet and provided Juanito pain meds and antibiotics. We took him to our vet the following week for some dental work and he now is happy as a clam. Thank you so much for your kindness. I will be recommending VEG to every pet parent I know. read more

When you are dealt with an emergency with your pet who is family to you, bringing your pet to Veterinary Emergency Group is the best decision. Two weeks ago, my cat wasn't eating after getting sick multiple times in one day and was lethargic. I brought him up to VEG on Saturday morning. When I walked into the door they greet you, triage your pet and put them first. Angelina Medina was amazing she calmed my fears and also made my cat Leo her priority. Between her and Dr. Baker they got Leo the tests he needed in under an hour. It was determined that he was a diabetic and in DKA. They informed me the plan of action with compassion and no pressure. Angelina made sure Leo was comfortable and once set up in his crate. I was able to stay with him as long as I wanted. All the staff there take our feelings into account with our pets. I believe Leo received the best care there. He had a nurse that took great care of him... Rob! Rob treated him like I did. He had a special bond with him. He would give him the tlc that he needed. Rob said to me that he wished that he was there when he was going to be discharged because he created such a bond with him. From Dr Baker, Dr King Smith, and Dr Pardo. They all are amazing! They put your pet first and have a great bedside manner with the owners who are stressed while their baby is there. They celebrated with me each improvement he made. All the care he received, he was able to go home in 2 days and has improved every day after. This place also lets you come and go as you please. They let you be with your pet which I believe helps the pet that they don't feel alone and afraid. This place deals with all types of animals and gives 5 star care, I witnessed it while visiting with my cat. They are amazing professionals who love their jobs. I can't thank you enough for treating Leo like he was yours . I definitely recommend VEG in white plains, ny if you are in that emergency situation and need immediate care. Dr Blutinger and his merry staff of VEGimites were incredible to say the least. They are masters of dealing with real animal emergencies as well as guiding the humans who are emotional when bringing in their 4 legged (2 legs as well we saw birds) loved ones who are in distress. We have had many dogs and cats over the years and this was truly the most impressive set of people in an ER setting so we highly recommend VEG. In our case it was more than reasonable in cost as well. In all that time we were there (8 plus hours for a blood transfusion as they are a blood bank) saw emergencies come in and nobody waited more than 60 seconds before a doctor was in front of them and their animal was on a table. Yes it's a different experience because you're literally in it and you are part of the experience which is emotional even though it's not your animal, but we came out of there in all honesty better pet parents for seeing other people going through things and how it was being handled. Imagine how rare it is for you to be able to be with your pet during this entire process vs the usual stress of being separated at other facilities. This should be the norm and was the original reason we chose VEG. read more

One of our cats was very sick, and we brought him here. He was sick enough for it to be the end of the line for him. Everyone who helped, from bringing him in through understanding what possible therapies were available, explaining if those therapies could realistically increase his quality of life, making the decision to euthanize, to the process of euthanization, was sensitive, informative, and beyond kind. They do have an open layout, but for the process of euthanization, we got a room with a door. They're even equipped to take care of cremation. For such an awful event, I can't imagine anything the staff and doctors here could have done differently. Truly top tier work by everyone. I wish I could remember the name of the doctor we saw, but her name tag was covered by a lanyard, and I was obviously not in a great state of mind in the moment, but she was far better than she needed to be (whoever was doing the overnight of June 17-18 2026). If you ever need a pet ER, this is a good one. read more

Our goldendoodle all of a sudden would not jump on the couch or chair. We found this odd for him. Fear that he might of injured his leg, my husband and son brought him to VEG ER. The Vet pressed on his back and said he may have a split disk in his back and offered to do a full work up: MRI, injection, etc. My husband and son called me very upset. I said to just pay for the exam, and we would see our regular vet on Monday. They told my husband and son they shouldn't just leave without anything and insisted the dog was "in pain" and it was abusive to do so. They winded getting some prescriptions. The next day, the dog seemed fine, but we brought him to our regular vet anyway. Our vet looked at the paper and threw it down and said he's fine and not to give him those prescriptions!! VEG saved my dog's life. December of 2021 he was Diagnosed with ITP an autoimmune disordeand needed a blood platelet transfusion. He had to stay overnight and they allowed me stay with him In a private space. While the open floor plan is unsettling and you do see other families get bad news; they are caring and work together quickly. I also returned for less urgent matters like eye infections and they helped me determine he had allergies And recommended a local specialized vet. read more

My nearly 17-yr-old dog let me know it was time for her to go last Sunday. I knew she couldn't wait for her regular vet to open on Monday, so I took her here. Worried that it would be cold and lonely, but it was absolutely the opposite. Everyone was extremely nice, expressed their condolences. They put us in a private room with a sofa and I was able to hold and pet my dog the whole time. They said I could stay in the room with her as long as I liked. And when we were ready, they wrapped her up in a special blanket and carried her away. They took care of us like we were family--and for all they know, they'll never see me again. Last night we came home at dinnertime and went to feed our daughter's two cats. They were pair-bonded when she adopted them eight years ago, and they do much of what they do, together. They always race to their bowls when they hear the sound of the can of cat food opening. But this was a very different event. For the first time ever, the female remained on a chair and hardly opened her eyes. Something felt very wrong. When I came back into the room after feeding the male cat, I didn't see her anywhere. Turns out she was hiding behind the piano, and we read that a cat will often hide when they are sick. It was late and we were very afraid for her if we fell asleep. We wanted to have her seen ASAP. I called VEG White Plains and Stephanie Z. answered the phone. She told us that they were open 24/7 and gave us directions. When we arrived there, our kitty was seen immediately. The ER doctor, Gina Porelli, was so thorough in her examination and decisions of what tests to do. Her nurses, Eric and Alicia, were so carefully gentle as they both drew blood and, when the results came back, administered a vaccination. They sent us home with meds and showed us how to use the Pill Pockets to make the pill seem like a treat. This morning i was very happy to call and speak with Dawn, the Nursing Manager, to tell her that our pussycat was, thanks to that whole VEG crew, feeling sooooo much better. I've been to this place a few times before, and while it's never been amazing, it's been fine--until tonight. I brought in my dog, who I adopted 8 months ago, because he broke a nail. He's a traumatized dog, not neutered, so yeah, he's a little rough around the edges and behaves on pure testosterone. I went in expecting help, but instead, I got nothing but judgment. The woman at the front desk took forever to acknowledge me, and when she did, she was rude and dismissive. I've never seen her there before, and honestly, she has no business working with animals if she can't show basic compassion or understanding. I did ask the lady who was assisting me how much it would be because God knows I've spent a lot of money already, and not one doctor acknowledged me for an hour. That was another reason I left--excuse me, but if it's not an emergency, I refuse to pay emergency prices. It's not that I can't afford it--because believe me, I could pay it and then some--but I won't out of principle. I know they jack up the prices just because it's labeled as an emergency situation, and that feels like exploitation. I waited an hour, and by the time I realized no one was going to help me, I had to take my dog all the way to the vet in Katonah. I live in Armonk, so that was not convenient at all. But here's the thing: I was so uncomfortable that when I told the front desk I was leaving because the environment was making my dog shake, two other receptionists agreed with me. They could see what was going on and understood, unlike the first woman who couldn't be bothered to offer any kind of support. I can only imagine that if they weren't aware of the judgment being thrown at me, they wouldn't have so quickly agreed. From now on, my other dog and my two cats will not be coming here. You don't know me, you don't know my pets, and you don't know what we go through every day. I do my best to care for my adopted stray, and I expect empathy, not judgment. If you can't provide that, you're in the wrong line of work. read more
