While this location is now closed, I would be remiss not to sing its praises. I had one of the best burgers (and the best collards) I've eaten in ages here. We met up with a decently-sized group of friends late into the evening to hang out and have good food. We were sat outside, which was perfect for the weather. Came on a Wednesday while in town for work. I had the bbq platter, with brisket via our waitress' suggestion, and Mac and cheese. My companion had a burger and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was outstanding--creaming, toasty, cooked in its own skillet. The brisket sadly was dry but had decent flavor, though way too much pepper. My companion enjoyed their burger. I ordered a burger with fries and my husband ordered smoked brisket. The sauce on my burger is what made it special but overall it wasn't much to write home about. The patties weren't actually smash style patties, they should've been thinner and had a little crisp on them. The bun should've been warmed as well. My fries were good but none of my food was hot enough. The platter or was served on was cute but considering they don't skimp on the portion size, the platter was too small. We were able to be seated immediately on a Thursday afternoon. The staff seemed friendly and our waitress was pretty attentive. Parking wasn't too great because of construction. There are interesting drinks on the menu and they seem to have a decent happy hour menu. We had the Curly Bill - a ton of pulled pork, well seasoned with just enough smoke; great pickle; great crispy onions, on a fluffy onion poppy Kaiser - excellent! Visited BCBC while in Hampton after walking at Fort Monroe Beach. When we entered, we were greeted immediately and the host did tell us that even though they weren't super busy, dishes were taking longer than hed like to get out. Definitely appreciated the transparency. We decided to stay. We sat out back on their patio, and it's a nice vibe with colored lighting and good music. While I do not remember our waitress name, I do remember her saying she was new, and it was only her 2nd night working on her own. Had she not said anything, I never would have been able to tell. She was great! Very attentive, nice, and just down to earth. Our entrees didn't take too long to come out at all! I had the brisket sandwich and slaw and sweet potato fries along with some bake wings. The sandwich is called the outlaw, and it's newer to the menu. It's a helluva sandwich! I couldn't even finish it all. The sweet potato fries were good as well but the slaw, I did not like. It is NOT your traditional coleslaw. I believe it's made with kale. The wings were very good - they reminded me of the smoked wings at Smokey bones but better. All in all, it was a nice night out with really great food and service. Super upset about making this review. Looking at previous reviews and their menu I thought this was a no brainer 5 star ... unfortunately due to the service, I was incorrect. We showed up and were seated right away- off to a great start. Unfortunately that is where the great service ended. It took awhile for someone to come take our drink orders.... Then another 20 minutes or so to even get the beer we had ordered. They finally came to drop off the beer and we clearly had enough time to look at the menu, so we ordered... and then waited... and waited... and waited -- 45 minutes !!!! During that time, our drink glasses were empty and we were never spoken to, except for the time that they accidentally tried to deliver our neighboring table's food to us instead. One waitress even went around our table to go to the neighboring table to ask if they needed anything, looked at our table with the drinks clearly empty and walked right around us without saying a thing. We had ordered wings, a pulled pork sandwich and a burger. All were good, not great. My burger was good with goat cheese, yum! The pulled pork sandwich was a large size with a large order of fries. The wings were supposed to be buffalo lemon pepper, but they were definitely not any buffalo and all (even too much) lemon pepper. The Mac and cheese side was a no go for me, one note and not any seasoning other than beer cheese. They had a bunch of people "working" but seemed like no one was actually doing anything. I've never been in downtown Hampton. It was a little later in the evening just 3 days before Christmas. We were lucky enough to snag a parking spot close by, however, I must note that they have the main street under construction so it's closed off. They were not completely busy, but since I only saw 1 server and 1 bartender, they had their work cut out for them. We were seated immediately. We did have to wait a while, but understandably so. The restaurant is a bit divey. It's dark wood makes it hard for good lighting. However, very clean. I opted for the Brothers Grimm burger with onion rings. This was delicious. It was smothered with beer cheese and fried onions. Hubby ordered the aristocrat burger with mac and cheese. Our son ordered the cheeseburger and waffle fries off the kids menu. Everything was great. The only thing I would suggest would be to put the entree on larger pans. I love the idea of metal trays instead of plates, however, a larger tray is needed. There was no room for me to put ketchup on the tray. Other than that, good food, great service even though they were short staff. read more

I hope that this was just an off-day when I visited Brown Chicken Brown Cow on Saturday, 4/22/23. This was an inaugural visit for a friend and myself - she lives in Williamsburg and we decided to meet (somewhat) halfway. I suggested BCBC and was excited to catch up while checking out a place I've heard good things about. BCBC isn't the biggest spot, but they had a decent amount of guests already dining when I arrived. I was seated immediately and looked over the menu while Adin was caught up in traffic. BCBC's interior is composed of a lot of wood and brick. It has a pub feel to it, which I liked. It was cozy and chill. Moustapha was our server, although he never gave us his name. In addition, his presence was minimal - whenever we needed something he never seemed to be on the floor. From what I could tell, he was the only server on the clock. There was a bartender who was also serving, but she was running laps around Moustapha. As things got busier, a man who appeared to be the manager-on-duty was working as a food-runner. Moustapha was quiet but nice, but it seemed like he was in the back more than on the floor. Plus, his awareness wasn't sharp - he'd walk to and fro without looking up. I don't know if that was intentional, but we had a tough time flagging him down as yelling, "Hey! You!" wasn't going to work. My biggest issue with BCBC is the food - I came away unimpressed. When you include 'chicken' in your restaurant's name, that will be the first thing I order during my inaugural visit as I expect it to be amazing. Words like 'pickle-brined' and 'buttermilk' look good on paper - but the brine did nothing to enhance the chicken and its flavor profile. All it seemed to provide was dark skin - it was dark enough to appear overcooked. It wasn't overcooked, if you're wondering, but the skin wasn't crispy. In addition, the chicken platter I had was supposed to come with a choice of dipping sauce. I didn't receive any sauce, Moustapha never asked me and I didn't read the entire menu description. That's partially on me, but Moustapha could've brought that up. Oh well. Adin & I split an appetizer - the hot pretzels. We enjoyed them but there was nothing spectacular about them. They were served as pretzel sticks - I expected them to be served in the traditional pretzel shape while hanging from a small hook. The presentation isn't a pressing issue, so overall BCBC's pretzel was fine. Adin had a burger and told me it was pretty good. So, points awarded there. I bought a second chicken platter for my mom to take home to her, but she opted for coleslaw (I had the steak fries). Mom came away just as unimpressed with the chicken, too, and added that the coleslaw was, "the worst coleslaw I've ever had." Mom's not a slaw expert, but that's as damning a statement as I've ever heard. Again, maybe Brown Chicken Brown Cow was off their game this day. Went back and changing my review to two stars. The food just isn't that great. The steak fries are good but that's it. My burger was bland and the bun was dry. So this gem was fabulous. The place looked up to date and the wait staff was amazing fun. Drinks were creative, fun, and on point. Recommend the creamsicle and Cinnamon Toast Crunch (with real bits of cereal). The apportions entrees have good portions and were tasty. The burgers were creative, such as the Grim Burger. The chicken tenders were delicious and fried pickles good but a little salty. Appetizers were big enough to share but you can fill up on them. Sunday brunch was delicious! My husband and I enjoyed dining outside where they have spacious seating area outside with umbrellas. I ordered the avocado toast with scrambled eggs and loaded hash browns. They're loaded because they're topped with beer cheese and bacon. So yummy! My beverage? The Re-Tox. It's a mix of vodka, champagne, and a few juices and it's so good. It was like a Caribbean sunrise in a glass. The avocado toast is ample and could definitely be shared. Hubs has the chicken and waffles and his plate was empty when he finished. He also had the same a hash-browns as I did. The menu is fun and it seems that it's a very popular place to dine. The tables began to fill outside with both couples, families, and friends. Our server was on point and working hard to keep her tables fed and watered. She was just as fun as the atmosphere and menu, making her tables laugh and keeping the busy atmosphere really warm, welcoming, and lighthearted. She really made the experience even more enjoyable. I want to start with the food, the food was amazing!! I can't take that away from this place. If our waitress wasn't so horrible it would have received more stars. However, the dining experience was the worst I've ever experienced in my life by far. Which ruined the whole experience unfortunately. The waitress was rude, condescending, and flat out hateful to our entire table. There were so many rude comments made that I can't list them all. Our grandmother who was simply asking questions about the menu was literally treated like she was asking the dumbest questions this waitress had ever heard. After we got the feeling she was overwhelmed we gave her the benefit of the doubt, but then She completely ignored our table for the remainder of our dinner. At one point, when someone simply asked a question pertaining to their meal coming out, she said "I've been doing this since I was 17 I think I know what I'm doing" which you would think after doing service work for that long you would understand basic customer service and human decency. The icing on the cake for us was while receiving our bill my father-in-law stated that he understands she was busy and thank you for everything. She looked us dead in the face and said "I haven't been busy at all, but thanks anyway" letting us know that she was ignoring us and being rude just because that was her character.. She wasn't busy, Just too busy to refill or drinks, bring our beer after being asked 3 times, or to have just an overall good attitude to patrons paying money to eat at this restaurant. We eventually asked another waiter for water and our beer and he was amazing and apologetic to us. (Which shows this is a reoccurring thing). She on the other hand was the most abrasive and rude waitress I have ever met. If you eat here or have eaten here. You'll know exactly who I'm talking about immediately if she's your waitresses. Sad that a place with such fantastic food allows their employees to treat patrons that way. There are countless other spots in that area that value paying customers, I recommend going there for better service. Or just order your food from here to go so you don't have to be treated like you are doing something wrong while trying to enjoy a meal and then be expected to tip them afterwards. read more

The single star is for the collards. They're amazing. The only patronizing I'd give this place again is a take out order of those. I almost don't want to waste energy here. The burgers are nowhere close in value to the price. Stingy, near non-existent toppings. Kid's burger was disgustingly overpriced. I ordered a BYO with chicken cake (like a crab cake), micro greens and sauteed mushrooms. I got like 5 greens and no mushrooms. When I asked, I got a small ramekin of warmed shrooms straight from a can. Dad's burger had hardly any sauce so he asked for extra. They charged us for it. We had to get up TWICE to get our server off her phone to ask for missing ingredients and the checks. When bussing our table, she reached over top of him and dumped a dirty plate down his back. Music a bit loud which I didn't mind but for other patrons who is particular about this FYI. Opted for a burger instead of brunch. Burger wasn't made to order nor fit the bun. Grass fed, fairly local beef (North Carolina). I got the wild whisky trip burger for the bourbon bacon jam that I could barely taste cuz the Gorgonzola cheese was so over powering. Besides being overcooked (since I asked for medium) it was a good burger. The sweet potato fries saved the day! You pay a lil extra for a premium side but they were crispy and delicious! read more

Unfortunately, a disappointing experience due to the customer service by Teddy, the bartender; he was short tempered, unfriendly, unaccommodating, defensive, and uninterested in being there. He was very slow to take my order, and check on me - I had to wait multiple times and had to call the other waitstaff multiple times to get him; I saw him sitting down in the corner, back against me, and facing away from everyone while "working". He seemed checked out. When my order came and it was incorrect (because he rushed in taking/writing my order), he tried to justify it, and insinuate it was my fault. I understand with the holidays businesses sometimes are short-staffed and or employees are forced to work back-to-back shifts, etc. causing slip ups with orders, but I'm taking this into account. I should note that the manager and host, Crystal and Cody were both friendly, kind, apologetic, and seemingly good people, but unfortunately, the very poor service from Teddy tainted my experience and was non-salvageable with "free drinks". There's no excuse to being made to feel uncomfortable and not wanting to be there after such service. I strongly suggest to the owner and manager to either teach better customer service to the gentlemen or find a feasible replacement. Yummy! Stopped by for an early Saturday dinner and had delicious food and service! I had build your own burger and kept it pretty plain Jane with the basic topping (lettuce,tomato, red onion, pickles, American cheese, ketchup and Mayo) and for my extra toppings I got the crispy onion straws! It made for a very tasty burger. Good quality meat and bun. For my side I got the waffle fries and they were nice and crispy. I also tried the Mac and cheese-very good! Would order again! I wasn't a fan of the baked beans but my hubs enjoyed them. I think it was the spice/flavor of them. Just not my cup of tea. This place was super fresh and delicious. Just one block from the air and space center, it's beyond convenient to grab a quick bite or brew. The menu had stuff for the carnivores, vegetarians and kiddos. We really enjoyed the restaurant. It had a really chill vibe and the staff was the friendliest I've ever been around. We ordered a drink that needed milk and after 20 min the waitress returned saying they ran out of milk (on a Friday evening at 5ish .... Really????- why not just send someone to the store), if that's where it would have ended I would have given a 3 star. But nope that's not where it ended. We sat and sat and sat and then 20 more min past we got to order our food (they were at around 50% capacity) so we order food and to include a new alcohol drinks. The drinks came out the tea was soured and the alcoholic drink was horrible (who ever was working the bar 6/21/24 needs to be fired because the drinks were so far off base they were not even drinkable). The food comes after now being there over an hour and it's dry and barely edible. We left a $8 tip and really that was way too much. If the owner cares we are outside the second table in from the left we were there 4:30ish till almost 6pm on 6/21/2024. Your staff is very slow, did not come out and check on us often, showed very little interest in her job, the bartender needs training, when using the bathroom the kitchen is in view and the kitchen was like a college party (wish I would have saw the kitchen before I ate). I had some high expectations for this place. It was recommended by some of our friends. I had the loaded waffle fries as an appetizer to share. It was sad. The cheese was cheap and with a grainy texture, I would be willing to bet it is probably melted block cheese from Sam's, not even Costco but Sam's. The beer selection was good. We had the fried tomatoes as another appetizer to share. They were delicious !! I had a burger and for some odd reason I wanted a salad, the description just made it sound yummy... it was an avocado salad but when it was served had no avocado, guess they forgot. The burger was... ok. The service was lacking as well, it was just the four of us and a couple by the bar but still the attention was not there and just felt rushed at every interaction. I've heard many great things about those restaurants, especially their burgers, of course. A few friends and I went to check this place out on a Sunday afternoon. There was no wait. Since my friend has her baby, she felt more comfortable sitting outside. They do have an outdoor patio, but it wasn't set up for customers. They compromised with us and allowed us to sit out front on the tables set up along the street. This was an automatic star for them. I asked the server about gluten-free options, and I read out some options. She stayed, and they were most likely free of butter. I was a bit shocked, but explained gluten is found in wheat. She didn't seem confident but stated she thinks they were safe. I wanted chicken but since it said a "chicken cake" I knew there was most likely wheat flour in this. Instead, I ordered the mouth of the South which had bacon, pimento cheese, and aoili on a lettuce wrap and a side of fries. The table raved about the loaded fries. We all agreed our burgers were a for sure 10/10. Unfortunately, two of us got fries as a side and they were literally hard as a rock and inedible. My friend said the Mac beer cheese was decent but wouldn't order it again. Overall, one appetizer with 3 burgers and all waters came to $73 so it was almost $20 per dish.
