I'm from S.F and I grew up on Asian ( mostly Japanese and Korean ) produce and snacks. I'm far from home now so when I'm craving these things this is my go to spot. The Manager Richard is the most friendliest person who gives the best customer service there, his the reason I now love rambutan, lychee, and Hawaiian Papaya! They have a nice size snack section. Fellow customers at this location appear to have poor manners. From the parking lot honking me to get into my car while I'm unloading cargo. To the inside of store blocking the isles for long periods of time. Plus they do not carry enough diversity. I notice more Korean, Vietnamese items in the refrigerated sections. Their meats are horrible! We were going to have hot pot and I didn't feel like driving to Ranch 99 so I stopped here. Worst. mistake. Ever. The shabu beef was chewy and tasted like it's been frozen several times and thawed. Bought some galbi to cook up with homemade teriyaki marinade. Almost pulled my teeth off trying to eat the rubber meat. The pork belly was like rubber as well. Super low grade quality here. As of today 7/29/2014 County Market is technically open. The "Grand Opening" is tomorrow. I stopped in yesterday to go get a preview of the store. First going in it looks like a very well organized store. Produce to the right, meats/seafood in back & then a hot food bar to the left of the store. I roamed the produce, the freezers, the meats, seafood and up and down all the aisles to get an idea of everything they had. I have to say, they have a lot of everything! Products to cater to a lot of Asian ethnicities. Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. They have cookware, tableware, brooms & more! The meat station in back looks good. But I looked at the fish they have out on ice (very well covered with ice) and several of them looked "iffy" I guess. (They had cloudy eyes.) I'm told that's one of the things to look for. But I saw some that had nice clear eyes too. The shrimps look good! And also the squids. They had the nice big full squids too! They also had live fish, crabs & lobster tanks. Very clean tanks BTW. Oh and also, they have a chart showing you how they can clean, cut & prepare your fish for you. 4 options of how you want your fish. Next was the hot food bar. It looked like your basic chinese restaurant spread, with a few unique looking items, 1/2 lobsters in sauce, fried sardines, something that looked almost like a curry dish. Everything actually looked tasty. The woman was very nice and actually asked me if I wanted to sample something. I didn't buy anything, but the one thing I have to say is that some of the food looked like it was sitting there awhile. They have them under heat lamps. This was around 1:30pm, so I'm pretty sure they made the food at noon, but I think because they're not getting the traffic yet, the food just sits there for now. So this is now my new alternative Asian market that's closer to home than Island Pacific Market. But I'll still go to Island Pac for the hot Filipino food. read more

County Market - Front of store - Grocery Near Me - Antioch, California

One score and several years ago, a moderate-sized market for mostly Chinese groceries was opened on San Bruno Street in San Francisco. They expanded to an Asian store on Pleasant Hill Road, Pleasant Hill, then to a place in Vacaville, and finally, in the mid 2000's, to 2711 Hilllcrest Ave, Antioch. All of the expansion stores catered not just to Chinese, but to Asians in general, with live fish, crab, and lobster, and in doing so, became a truly specialty grocery store for the masses, not just for Chinese or even just Asians. And then the Housing Bubble burst. Homes were underwater, foreclosures hit the Bay Area hard, and East County especially hard. And both the Pleasant Hill and Antioch locations of County Square Market closed. Until now. It appears that County Market (slightly different name, and probably new owners?) has reopened, with their Grand Opening to be scheduled for Wed July 30th, 2014 (open as of last Friday pre-Grand Opening, apparently). Well, we just had to go in, and see how the place is! Cooked food counter, check ($6.95 for 2 item combo). Fresh fish and other seafood, check. Jarred Kimchi at the end of the far left counter, check. Magnolia ice cream, potstickers, Skjyflakes, and lumpia, check, check, check, and check. It's all there! Now, I just gotta find a way to get there for their Grand Opening on Wednesday. read more

We love this place. I'm glad they reopened! We live near by so it's a nice little walk from our house to the store. My son loves the White Rabbit candy along with the drinks they sell. This market is only 10-15 away from Brentwood & Oakley. Pretty convenient for people who lives in those area like us. My mom, sisters and I like going to this market. They have fresh fish, crabs & lobsters if they're in season. Their fresh meat is good too. The owner and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. They do have 1 person in the meat department who's not too friendly but I will not base my stars on him since everything about this store is pretty good. They're mostly well stock with products, seafood is always on point from our experience and the meat too. They have tons of Filipino products from frozen to canned goods and snacks. They also have a deli department. They sell cooked food there. All you have to do is tell them what you want and they'll pack it for you. They also have a dining ate if you want to dine in. They also have a restroom, it's in between the meat and vegetables area. The price is competitive, I wouldn't say cheap but not too high. read more

Bad experience today at the meat selection. They had some lamb pre package and label. The butcher took a look at our lamb package which we had already put into the cart and said wrong price. He took it away and relabel and place it back on the rack with different price. This is the worst experience not said sorry I made mistakes or anything. 2nd item gas stove state $15.99 on the rack with label and it rang 19.99. Cashier state new price...this is false pricing. This review is for the MEAT DEPARTMENT: I'm a regular at this place and I've noticed the tall Chinese meat cutter, possibly the Manager, who's very unpleasant to deal with. Many occasions he sees me standing by the meat counter waiting, and he disregards my presence and did not bother to stop what's he's doing to assist me and other customers. I don't have time to wait around for him! This is poor service! Whenever I ask the unpleasant guy for a certain meat, etc....His response is, "WE'RE OUT!" Are you really out or you're too lazy to go get it? I'm super happy when he's not around. Seriously, I can easily drive to 99 Ranch where there's more selections and the workers there are eager to serve you immediately. I chose to come here because I want to support my local businesses. I don't know what took me so long to even stop here instead of driving the distance to concord for Ranch 99 Market. They have a hot food deli here. $6.95 for 3 items. I'd like to say they have everything your typical Asian mom may need in terms of cooking dinner. For all the complicated spices and herbs, maybe stick to the go to San Jose market once in awhile and hoard it back to Brentwood. Definitely going here more! Save me the time and gas! read more

They have a fairly good selection of Asian foods and products and reasonably priced. Staff are very friendly and helpful as well. County Market, oh a sad fairwell to the former and short lived (at least at this location) Country Square Market. But, finally people people can smile again. County Market has filled the empty void that had people driving all the way to Concord to 99 Ranch Market or Seafood City....that's a typefull..Here is my review of County Market. When this location opened as a Country Square Market back in 2007, I remember seeing people rejoice. No more having to drive to Concord (before 99 Ranch and Seafood City) to the former Country Square that use to be in Pacheco, that is now a big 5 sporting goods. But as quickly as the smiles came the frowns followed....in 2009 Country Square Markets shut down and so did this location that was built for the store. So the store sat vacant from that time on till one day.....my moms came over with some "Salt and Pepper Crab and Shrimp...." I happen to love "Salt and Pepper Crab and Shrimp" and I demanded to know where she got it.....she said "County Market" I was like...."County Market?" whats that yo? So she said "It's where Country Square Market use to be at" I was like "Whaaaaaaaa" So I hit up one of my peepz and told him about my discovery and he confirmed it saying he had shrimp and crab there days ago....I felt so behind, like how could I not know about this? Oh well, better late than never. I knew I wanted Salt and Pepper Crab and Shrimp, But I decided to take a look around after arriving. Everyone says the prices are kinda high based off other reviews I've read, but, considering the convenient aspect of things....I personally don't mind the price to save having to go to one of the nearby mom and pop oriental/pacific island markets which could be pricer and not have as much of a selection. Or Concord for that matter. The place is pretty clean and its pretty well stocked, I feel it's honestly the prefect size and have the right amount of selections for peoples needs without seeming cluttered by many varieties of the same thing. They have a self serve food and dim sum area, not the biggest if you want to compare it in terms of lets sat..99 Ranch Market. But the Food was pretty good. And at $6.79 for a 2 item combo, I would have to say that I was very pleased. I was even more pleased to know I could get some salt and pepper shrimp as one of my combo plate orders! Score! In closing, my visit was pretty good and I was satisfied, except for the smartass cashier that tried to make me look dumb when I asked a perfectly normal question about something in the store....and watch him chuckle..like do you know who I am son! I nipped that in the butt right away, too cool to be dissed by that kid. The store is located off Hillcrest in the same shopping strip with Kabuki Sushi, Shell Gas Station, Jack in the Box and the soon to come Pete's Brewhouse and Grill. I would say check this place out for all your ethnic food needs, it would save you the drive if you live in the Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley and Brentwood area. This store is very convenient for Locals but the older tall guy at the meat department is very rude always say we out of Catfish and there's tank full of Catfish. This now my go-to spot for Asian foods. They have a great selection of noodles, veggies, seafood, chips, and fun snacks. The prices are fair and you will always find something new to try. I have not yet tried their hot bar but if you are looking for Asian inspired food-to-go, it looked pretty good. My favorite item that I found so far was dried fungus to use in soups, very umami and good for your body! Will come back again. read more

We usually shop at 99 ranch for the asian groceries but sometime 99 ranch doesn't carry a particular ingredients, but County Market would (which is great) & again, if these stores doesn't carry it, then we usually get it from Oakland or San Jose when we're in town. The price for some stuff is kind of pricey but its reasonable. I think if there were more asian store in Pittsburg/Antioch/Brentwood area, I think prices would be more competitive & affordable. I'm going to give it two STARS for the friendly staff and presentation of the store but took away 3 STARS because their Japanese ice cream lousy. I feel that they melted and got frozen again. Many times.. too many times, I get home and find the condition of the ice cream almost diet version.. ugly.. It usually under $7.00 but at this point, I've cut my losses and refuse to get any from there anymore. At this point, I've purchased over $35 worth of useless ice cream. Why do I do that? I don't know. I'm going to wise up now. I rather drive to Concord, CA to Ranch 99 for their ice cream, risk getting stuck in traffic and my ice cream will still look better the next day in my fridge. Used to have to drive all the way to Oakland China town to get decent roast pork (with crispy skin), bbq pork, and roast duck. Or settle for the mediocre equivalents offered at 99 Ranch in Concord. But last summer Richard (co-owner of County Market) recruited an expert chef that roasts meat to the Cantonese (Hong Kong) standard. Thanks to County Market I have reduced my carbon food print, since I no longer have to make the 80 mile round trip drive from Antioch to Oakland China town to get delicious roasted meats. read more

County Market is a great Asian market that offers a variety of fresh meat and seafood. At inexpensive prices, too!! I'm glad this place reopened in Antioch because most markets similar to this are a drive. Gone are the days we have to go all the way to Union City and Oakland to get a good deal on meat! The cashiers are really friendly, but it seems like the butchers are understaffed. It takes forever to get help, at least during the times I've come here. On our way home yesterday we saw a guy on Hillcrest holding a sign saying County Market is open. When we first moved to Antioch in 2009 we found this place and were impressed. For us, not being Asian but liking fish, fish were the thing. So, seeing that it was now reopened I headed right there. It seemed to be just as I remembered it except for a lot of empty shelves but also a lot of people busy filling them. I have been looking for a place to buy live lobster so I headed straight for the fish area and there was a tank of them. $10.99 a pound which is CHEAP. I am from a different city and I saw a Chinese Market( county market) we want to see how it is.?? We saw a roast pig looks so nice and we bought $30 worth of for 2 pack more than 3lbs. Good prices! Good variety! Better values than 99 Ranch. A good places for Asian stables.

Its not Costco, wince, Walmart or target but that's ok because that's not the competition they are trying to beat. They are a smaller Asian market with produce, the normal supermarket fair and some not so normal stuff (at least not to a Caucasian American). They do have fresh fish and some really, really fresh fish (as in still swimming). The smell (FISH) is somewhat over powering to begin with but you adjust. Don't expect to do all your grocer shopping here unless your a family of one of two cause it ain't cheap but you can get some odds and ends here once in a while. A little off the beaten track but worth it. Great quality products. read more

Great place to shop, convenient and reasonable prices. The fish and meat section, grocery and cashier staff are friendly and attentive. Worth mentioning also is the security guard. Feel safe shopping here. The guy hustles, collects shopping carts and disinfects them. On not so busy days he even waits for you to finish unloading and takes the cart.
