I've been living not too far from the area for over 15 years but I've never been to this local favorite. Most locals are familiar with Tastee Subs but folks need to "familiarize" themselves with this gem hidden in plain sight across from the courthouse. All of their subs have some kind of legal reference. I had the "defendant". It's basically a turkey sub. All of the ingredients were fresh, the bread was soft but not chewy, and the turkey had a great flavor and they don't scrimp on the meat. Specials are always changing and if you order delivery it will be to your door within a half hour (and that's building in time if you're on the other side of town). I've passed by this place many times on my weekend strolls in sommerville. It definitely has an aged look to it and the signboard definitely looks like it hasn't changed when you enter. Upon entering, the staff are friendly and accommodating, give you that mom and pop shop feeling. Their menu is quaint and since they are located across a courthouse, they have sub sandwiches named "misdemeanor" and "judge." Based on description, I went for the "judge" sub with everything on it. The sandwich was good though IMHO they went thin on the lettuce and tomato. Meat was kinda thin, but I can deal with that since it is a business I guess so I think that is measured by weight. The bread however, OK, I sometimes like to heat my sub in a toaster oven if I do take out and the bread fails in that respect. But other than that its a good sandwhich and good combination. read more

Long time Court House customer here. I used to go a couple times a week in high school. Now 4 full years later, they still remember my order (6" Italian w/ all the fixings) without fail. Absolutely amazing customer service, the kind of thing you'd never see at a Subway or Wawa. The guys always ask how I've been, what I've been up to, etc... Now with regard to the food, it's incredible! Big subs made with fresh rolls, fresh-sliced meats and cheeses, and always fresh lettuce and tomato. This is one of my favorite places to grab lunch in Somerville. I actually don't much care for their cold subs, but they have a hot steak sandwich that has peppers onions cheese and french fries on it (yes, french fries) and it is absolutely incredible. So satisfying in that "I shouldn't be eating this" kind of way. The service is insanely friendly and consistent and they deliver all over the Somerville area with no delivery charge. I stumbled across this place kind of accidentally even though I am always downtown. I was told this was the place to go if you want a good sub, although I never followed up on that. Anyways, I finally made it in and I completely agree! I am so excited about this place and can't wait to try the rest of their menu. So far, I've only tried their tuna melt. The bread is soft, and just delicious. The soups are all made there although I haven't tried any of them yet. I plan on visiting this subs shop throughout the summer. My co-workers raved about the goodness. Service was courteous and professional. The prices for the catering gig were very reasonable and the delivery was punctual. For dine in I found the service to be quick, efficient, and pleasant. Sandwiches are made right in front of you to your liking. For delivery there's no minimum if you live in Somerville. The food is pretty tasty and uses good meats. Service is friendly and quite fast. Prices have a lot of bang for the buck especially compared to most other delis. Jury duty people (and anyone else looking for a salad or sandwich for lunch): go here. You know when you see regulars, it's a solid place! Fir9st of all, my salad was excellent! That's not always the case at a sandwich place. Secondly, they grill the chicken to order! That might not seem like a big deal, but many sandwich places I've been to have the chicken cooked ahead of time and just throw it on there. Finally, major props to the two guys taking/ making all the orders!!! In the few minutes I was in there, they took probably close to 2o orders in less than 10 mins efficiently and the wait for the food was short. It was amazing to watch how quickly they worked side-by-side, seamlessly. Even though I would love to be reviewing a burger or sandwich, my current diet didn't allow for that today, but my salad was excellent! I'll be back, though. My sister and I needed a quick bite to eat so we stopped in. Its a small luncheonette and looks a little old and run down but still clean overall. I ordered a sub and my sister got a gyro. Food came out pretty fast abd the meat was sliced in front of you so you know its fresh. All the ingredients were very tasty and fresh nothing was sitting around for hours, the bread was perfect soft but not soggy!
