I've been wanting to check out this place for a while. I'm Italian and grew up going to mom and pop Italian markets since I was a young girl. K&S Italian Specialties reminds me of that. The minute I walked in I knew I came to the right place. It really took me back to those nostalgic days with those familiar smells I grew up loving. Everything is made fresh, and to order at K&S Italian specialties. I wound up buying their pasta salad, fresh Italian bread, imported dry pasta and cookies. This place was busy and I saw many people ordering their different types of sandwiches which are large. I love that they have a sandwich with chicken cutlet, broccoli rabe and fresh mozzarella. They make all different kinds of pasta dishes and they do catering too. As I walked around I noticed they have wonderful imported soppressatas, ( dry cured salami's) fresh pastas,and dry pastas, imported olive oils, balsamic's , Italian cookies, delicious Italian breads. I have been going to K&S for over 20 years but had not been there in a while. My wife and I were in the area doing some shopping and I decided to pick up an Italian sub to-go for lunch. When you walk in, they have various goods (e.g., olive oil, pasta) on the right wall and the meat and cheese cases on the left. There were several workers behind the counter so I did not have to wait long to place my order. I ordered the sub with lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar. It's normally a 20 minute drive home but because of the rain, it took nearly 30. When we got home, the sub was not soaked to the point where the bread was falling apart, which shows they add just enough and the bread is sturdy. It was just as good as I remember it. I wish I could find someplace similar closer to home but don't mind the drive back to K&S. read more

Some sandwiches deserve their own review, and in this case, it goes to the Prosciutto, Mozzarella & Roasted Pepper on Focaccia. I don't even typically love Focaccia bread. I mean, I like it enough to order this sandwich... and boy, am I glad that I did. The focaccia bread is crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside with nice bursts of flaky salt. The sandwich itself was stuffed full of the toppings that just melt in your mouth, no dressing should be added, and no dressing was needed. This 5 star sandwich makes this a 5 star shop in my book. read more

They also have many Italian prepared sandwiches and salad dishes, which I look forward to trying. It's fun to peruse the Italian imported items in this market such as pastas, cookies and crackers. Grew up in NJ and now live in Portland, OR, for the past 20 years where there are no Italian Deli's. Man, do I miss them. K&S has a delicious assortment of premade Italian enters that taste as good as homemade. Lasagna, meatballs, eggplant - they have it! The deli meats are top quality and you can order by the pound or have a fresh sandwich made. They have an assortment of sausages and pastas, as well as freshly made salads like artichoke, veggies and fried peppers. The fresh bread is delicious and goes quickly on the weekends. They sell pantry items also - dried pasta, canned tomatoes, tarallini (my dad loved these hard circular crackers with fennel and pepper), roasted peppers, olive oil and more. They even have cannoli that are on point and other Italian deserts. So so good!! Ordered the largest size of the turkey sub ($14) and was amazed with the portion size. It was cut into 4 and I was able to eat it for multiple meals. Highly recommend ordering online. We have known the owners for years- so when we decided not to do the cooking ourselves our first choice was K & S! They did not disappoint- the chicken parmigiana and piccata was great- the roast beef was perfect, sausage and peppers and brócoli cavatel was awesome - everyone one of our guest commented on who great everything was- Antonio was especially helpful in the ordering process- didn't let me order more than I needed. Most delicious sandwiches! Freshest ingredients and reasonably priced even during this economy! Always pop in when I'm in the area.

This place has been open since I was still in elementary school, but my family tried it for the first time only this year. So unfortunate we never tried it until now, since their food is great! My favorite thing here is their bacon quiche. My dad bought an entire pie once and we finished it within 2 days. Their quiche has the perfect, slightly firm texture and a flaky crust. Unfortunately, they don't have it every day. In addition to the quiche, my family also loves to get their lasagna which they sell for $7.99/pound. They are always nice enough to give us extra sauce. I haven't tried it, but my dad likes their braised short rib. Their stromboli is filled with delicious Italian meats and cheese and is quite cheap. I'm not a huge fan of is their cheese steak. It's a bit on the bland side. But it is huge at over a foot long. While they're preparing your food, be sure to browse their entire store. In addition to their section of prepared foods, they also have a cheese and cured meats section. They also stock Italian chocolates, Italian cookies, raviolis, bread, fresh pasta, dry pasta, olive oils, panettone, and basically anything else Italian you could think of. It's basically a one shop stop kind of place. If only they had the quiche everyday. read more

If I'm in the area on any given Sunday you can easily bet that I will be in line, at K&S, ordering "my usual". K&S has been in our Sunday routine for years, no matter the season. I seldom branch away from my prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, sundried tomatoes with balsamic on freshly baked focaccia but if anything, that speaks to my self restraint.. I do not typically order any of the prepared food because my Italian grandmother would have given me an earful, if not her than my own mother would be going on about how 'I can make that', 'grandma can make that', 'why didn't you ask me?' So that just goes to show you that everything in the case at least looks as good as mom makes :) Get there early to beat the line and for a bigger bread selection because everything tends to move quickly on the weekends. Food is mediocre. Loafs of Italian bread seem hard and dry. Place needs serious upgrade. Freezers look like they haven't been cleaned in who knows how long. One word TERRIBLE! This will be my first and last time ordering from this place. I ordered a simple chicken ceaser , sub for ranch. My colleague picked it up for me and had to pay after I order over the phone. Apparently they took down the numbers wrong. Now fast forward to when my salad arrives there is absolutely no dressing in my bag. And when I called and spoke with management he stated my card didn't go thru. Yeah right buddy, I had to drive to Quick Chek and purchase ranch with the SAME card. All in all completely terrible customer service. What an awesome local Italian deli/food market/ delicacy specialty store. Very friendly staff, welcoming and quick to provide answers to questions or graciously modify an order. We have ordered subs (can't go wrong with any type, however we usually order the Italian with sharp provolone cheese). Subs are delicious, huge, fresh, and priced fine for what you get. You can ask them to use their bakery bread from Calandra's bakery that they sell to make your sub, you just pay an upcharge for that bread or you can just get it on their regular sub bread which is delicious too, but softer and we like the harder real Italian bread. Their specialty salads are delicious too and we've tried several kinds. Tried both kinds (hot and sweet) of their homemade sausages and they were gobbled up by the whole family. Have also bought their imported pasta, desserts and most recently a soft nougat cake - yum!!!!!! Highest quality of food you can get and worth every penny spent. read more

I love that they make specials everyday and have them up on the counter to seeI have gotten into the habit of going there to pick up a few dinners for me and my husband. The price is right and I can have what I want and my husband can have what he wants!! What a collection of delicacies. Don't order just Prosciutto since they have about 10 different kinds. Lots of choices for meats, cheeses and salads.
