This deli is located next-door to Barnes & Noble. As soon as I walked in, I could smell a hint of bleach in the air which told me that this place prioritizes cleanliness. They make good use of their limited space. Their walls are lined with different snacks and beverages, and the service at the counter is quick. I ordered a tuna sandwich with a few fixings and a bag of chips. The tuna, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles were all fresh and delicious! I don't make a habit of ordering tuna from places, because I am usually disappointed and I then have to question the freshness of the fish. Used to go here over 10 years ago when I worked in the area. Stopped by for a few sandwiches with my wife and kid (not crowded). My wife ordered her sandwich as my son and I were still debating what to get. Person helping us vanished behind the counter. Came back and gave us the price. I said, that there were more sandwiches we were going to order. She rolled her eyes and was clearly annoyed. With an attitude she took our order. Stopped here for the first time for a Boar's Head Turkey Sandwich for the plane before heading to Newark Airport for a non-stop to Los Angeles. He asked me what kind of bread do I want and I asked him what bread does everyone like here? He said, "I don't know," and picked up a garbage bag filled with rolls. I asked him if they are fresh and soft and he said, 'I don't know." I asked him what other bread they have here and he shows me 2 loafs of store packaged sliced bread. I asked him if they are fresh? He said, "I don't know." I picked the multi-grain. $7.50 for a 2 pieces of Multi-Grain Bread, 1/3 lb of Turkey, and some lettuce and onions. I asked for spicy deli mustard and when I got on the plane--if he put it on, I could not tell the sandwich was so dry--I looked for mustard on the bread--probably needed a microscope to find it. He tried to up-sell me tomatoes for 75 cents more--and I would have done it except when I asked him if the tomatoes taste good today--he shrugged his shoulder and said, "I don't know." (Keep in mind you can't see them make the sandwich--it hidden and you can't see any of the adds to see what they look like--I hate that.) He asked me if I wanted anything else on the sandwich and I asked him what else do you have for it that is good? He said, "I don't know." If you are asking me if I would come back here again? My response: "I don't know." Overall the sandwich was good, just dry--it's good turkey, but a poor value. The entire flight back to Los Angeles I was saying to myself: "David, you should have just went to Subway and got a sandwich for the plane."--That's what I usually do. I visit this area regularly, don't reside here--but really, there must have been a time this place was great--but it's not a place I would come back to--I just don't see the reason. I have been coming here for decades and always look forward to an excellent sandwich if my travels took me that way. Today was a total disappointment. We come here for the Sloppy Joe sandwich which is not the Sloppy Joe of my childhood (hamburger meat, onions, peppers and a tomato based barbecue sauce in a hamburger bun) but which is the more modern deli version of rye bread, corned beef, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and coleslaw. It comes with two deli pickle slices. Delicious! There is a whole wall full of potato chips to choose from as a sandwich accompaniment. This is my favorite deli in the area. I started going to Steck's 9 years ago at the recommendation of several coworkers. Their Italian sub is amazing! But also try the Sloppy Joe (I recommend pastrami). Definitely check out their daily specials. With a bag of chips and drink, it's the perfect lunch. Shout out to their "yellow" (sour) pickles. This place is the best sandwich shop in town! Located off the Somerville circle and with plenty of parking, this place is convenient for the average joe. The service is a little disorganized when trying to order but the food is delicious. Fairly priced but there is no seating available (you must take it to go). I haven't been here in years ,, always on diets , then I became gluten intolerant. I was getting my nails done and was very hungry and went in and asked if they had gluten free bread. They did. I've been going to Steck's since moving to the area a few years ago and it's one of my favorite delis for a quick and delicious sandwich. I was apprehensive at first reading some of the reviews but decided to give it a shot because it's so close to home. It's a small, unassuming deli that's purely for pick up and they have a ton of sandwiches and specials that aren't on the online menu. Yes, sometimes it can be challenging to order over the phone and it gets busy during the lunch rush, but their food is always good and I appreciate a place that keeps it consistent. I get a Turkey sloppy Joe (customized with pepper Turkey and Muenster cheese) and their rye bread is delicious. They make fresh pickles and serve on the side of the sandwich which is a great touch. The prices are decent too - $10 for a good sized sandwich and drink/chips. I order from here at least once every other week and would definitely recommend if you're looking for a quick spot to pick up. The guy took his time with prepping the sandwich but that was ok because I was able to peruse the items on the shelves and food in the refrigerated cases. This past week I went to visit one of the locations I manage in Raritan and one of our sales reps was nice enough to order me a sandwich from this deli. He knows I'm a vegetarian, so he told them to be creative and make me a great sandwich. Well they outdid themselves. They put avocado, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, mayo and this wonderful vinaigrette on a fresh and delicious hero bread. One of the best vegetarian heroes I've ever had. The sandwich was very generous and ingredients in portion size I tried not to eat the entire thing but I couldn't help myself! I came in to order a turkey and Swiss cheese on sliced bread. Sandwich is delicious and not cheaply with the meat. The pickle is always fresh. Service was quick and always quick when whether there's a line or not. There's many drinks, chips, and snacks to pick from to accompany your sandwich. In addition Steck's has a cold bar that has macaroni salad, tuna, and some other options. They also sell deli cheese and meat by the pound. A bit price but produces a tasty sandwich. read more

While this is one the better sandwich places around this area, it does not compare to some of truly great delis in NJ. I recently had a roast beef sandwich on a roll, while my wife had a pastrami sandwich. Both were okay, with more than the usual amount of meat a lesser place would provide. In the past, this deli has been fantastic. It has definitely been my go to in the area. However, we have gone a few times since the pandemic started and each was worse than the last. First, they squeeze a line into the building. No social distancing. No floor markers. Nothing. When we went to pick up our food, there were 10 other people in line in the very small store. They didnt even make an attempt at safety measures. Then, my husband asked for a sloppy joe triple decker with both turkey and roast beef. He got a single sandwich with hardly any meat. That is NOT a sloppy joe. This time he got a sloppy joe again. He made sure he clearly said triple decker, and then asked if they were making it as a triple decker. They said yes, it's a triple decker with a full portion of roast beed and a full portion of Turkey. WRONG. He gets home and again it's a single decker with hardly any meat. Since he ordered at the store this time, I can only imagine that the deli workers dont know what a triple decker is, nor how to make a sloppy joe. We will likely not be back. Catered affair in Hillsborough is just as good and can follow simple directions. read more

Absolutely the best tuna fish sandwich I've ever had. It's a go to place for lunch. I get it at least twice a week either for Lunch or breakfast.
