    Burger lunch special

Courtesy's BBQ in Clover absolutely won me over this time around. I ordered the lunch value meal burger with an extra patty, and it was an excellent deal. The plate came with a very generous portion of hush puppies and crinkle-cut fries, all served hot and fresh. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and satisfying, especially for the price. The atmosphere was great, and service was timely and friendly. For $7, this is hands down the best value for a burger in Clover. I'll be honest: I ate here once during the pandemic and didn't really enjoy it. But the renovations and updated offerings have completely changed my opinion. This visit was a huge improvement, and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I'll definitely be coming back.

Had the BBQ plate with hush puppies and red slaw. We had a large crowd so a couple waitresses took care of us. Both were great. Nothing real fancy with furniture or decor.

Not my favorite but I know everyone has different taste buds when it comes to BBQ. I was hopeful this was going to be a hidden gem since we were in the tiny town of Clover. We stopped for lunch. We were seated immediately. The waitress was nice but didn't seem thrilled to be there. We told her it was our first time there and asked for appetizer recommendations. She just shrugged her shoulders and said she liked the eggrolls. We went with the cheese curds. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich which came with fries. I was hoping to get some potato salad with it. When I asked her about it she told me it's not made there. I immediately said no. That's disappointing a BBQ place doesn't make their own potato salad. The pork was ok a bit chewy for me. They put sauce on the pork already which I want a fan of. I did like the hushpuppies. You can tell this place has been around for a long time. It gives off country old fashioned vibes.

Tried for the first time despite living in the area over 15 years. The service was great. As soon as we sat down, the server took our drink order quickly and then took our meal order. The atmosphere was fine. Our food was good. The bbq sauce was tasty. I had the bbq chopped chicken plate with potato salad and fries. There was some pieces of hard cartridge in the chopped chicken which was breast meat. The fries and potato salad was delicious. My husband enjoyed his bbq sandwich. He said the hushpuppies were delicious and how he liked them. Lots of food for the price.

I just received the "BARBECUE" issue of CHARLOTTE MAGAZINE in the mail yesterday, and Courtney's BBQ was one of the 13 BBQ restaurants written about. I figured that if CHARLOTTE magazine is featuring a full page write up about a restaurant with color photos, the restaurant must be good. Boy, was I wrong! We arrived on Friday evening a little after 6 PM to a half empty parking lot. There was a couple ahead of us at the hostess stand waiting, but no hostess. There were 2 cashiers across the aisle observing this - but no action on their part. One of the customers went into the main dining room to find her. She was in a corner chit-chatting with 2 other employees. She came out to the waiting area, gathered the 4 of us and seated us at our tables. Our waitress came right over. All went as it should. The hush puppies came out, and they were perfect. Hot and crunchy on the outside while warm and flavorful on the inside - slightly sweet with a mild taste of onion. Then our dinners came out - what a letdown. I ordered the large BBQ plate. The pork BBQ was from 2 different batches. One part was finely chopped and tasted of refrigerator, and one part tasted of fresh pulled pork. The dichotomy between the two was striking. The fully loaded potato had been prepared hours previously including the cheese and bacon. The potato flesh was translucent. The collard greens were BLAND. They were just boiled greens lacking any seasoning. To top it all off, everything was between Luke warm and room temp. GROSS. I looked for the waitress and found her in the same corner where the hostess was found chit chatting with 3 other employees. I told her the issue. I returned to my seat. She called an employee from the kitchen to get the plate and warm it up. He returned with the plate only barely warmer than when it went into the kitchen. My dining partner ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs. They were hot and flavorful, but the fire under them had been uneven and he could not eat part of the flesh as it had dried on to the bone. He had the same poor excuse of a potato and the fried okra. Overall it was a poor dining experience and one which we will not repeat. It was too much money for good hush puppies. Gene Courtney prides himself on placing 8th in the Kansas City. American Royal Invitational for his BBQ. It is time to stop living in the past and examine your restaurant carefully As for CHARLOTTE magazine, I think you need to do your homework a little better before writing about restaurants in the area. Good simple place to eat. Nothing fancy but the family enjoys eating here. Hush puppies are always good!

The servers are really sweet and it sort of feels like being in a time capsule. The menu is all seafood with the few land based offerings. You won't find anything fancy here. The seafood is either fried or broiled. they season things well. However, the portions are crazy. They pile it on! I tried the fried seafood platter. I received flounder, clams, shrimp, oyster, and deviled crab. Are you kidding me?! It's a huge meal for $23. You can't beat the value. I admit I'd like the food to be a little more seasoned. However, I can say the devil crab is really good. I tried a similar meal the second time I went, but this time I had it broiled. I only had the flounder and shrimp this time. Again, a huge portion came out the shrimp were well seasoned, but you really need the cocktail sauce to put it over the top. I wasn't as big a fan of the flounder this time. The salad bar is good. It's very traditional and you won't find anything really unique here, but it is fun to have a salad bar. I sort of missed them when they disappeared. The ladies who provide service are just really sweet. They clearly have regulars, but they treat newbies really well. They always invite you back, which is a sweet thing to do.

They have planes now that can deliver super fresh seafood. Just sayin. City island was famous fir their seafood restaurants and fried fish shacks. I had a craving for some fried shrimp. I found Pier 51 and saw that the had something I hadn't seen since I moved here......Sea Scallops. I ordered a combo of fried jumbo shrimp and fried sea scallops. All I can say is YUM! Reminded me of home. Perfectly fried scallops are hard to find. This restaurant just gets it and the scallops were sheer perfection. The tarter sauce was fresh and tasty and the baked potato (which I ordered fully loaded but just got a plain one) hit the spot. I think the portions are huge for the price and I have been back two more times since my first visit. They don't have a bar where you can have a cocktail whilst waiting for your food but who cares because you call ahead and pick up at the drive thru. Highly recommend.

To move forward I would like to say we all ordered out food, and it was a total of six of us . Three people approved of their dish however, two of us had cold food when you go to a upscale restaurant, such as sea level it would be nice not to have to send our food back due to the temperature. The manager came to the table and she did get our food prepared correctly however, at that point the manager should have given some type of concessions and offered the free dessert because we were not able to eat with our guest. I had to ask for that type of service. My friend got her Bill and the waitress was doing what you call up sale. She asked her husband and my husband if they would like to have three scallops added to their meal the waitress did not say would you like to have three scallops added to your meal for $30? She just plainly said would you like to have three scallops added to your meal or a lobster tail now I understand that there are many people that would go in and not have a problem with the price however, it should be stated how much the up charge is going to be and it should be in writing on the menu because we looked back on the menu and there was not a price for up charge on the scallops . My friend was not happy with the service nor the cost of the scallops . The manager did not really know how to handle the situation but because I invited everyone I wanted to make it right and I asked to pay part of her bill and of course my friend denied and said it'd be best. If we just not come back she said the food wasn't bad the food was actually good however, the waitress was definitely not as friendly focused as she should have been and not willing to help make our experience the best I will say the manager should have been able to accommodate her request and move forward and be kind and understand her point. I will be back and I would love for my friends to come back. The ambiance was very nice and the drinks and food were good as well. Please note the manager at the end gave us a $10 coupon for next visit but our friends were not happy with the outcome. It was simply lack of communication and more openness regarding the charges of up selling and the price is not on the menu. My husband and I left the waitress a $40 tip to show her we did not take it personal and the restaurant has great potential but additional customer service is definitely needed. Thank you.

The restaurant is really cute with a casual seafood vibe. It wasn't crowded at all when we went, which I actually liked. I really wanted to try the spinach chargrilled oysters, but they were out, so I had the regular chargrilled oysters instead and they were really good. The mountain trout was delicious! I wasn't a fan of the rice that came with it, but everything else on the plate was yummy. We also had the chicken and waffles, which were great. The Adluh Mills grits were tasty too. They were different from regular grits, but it was a nice spin and I liked them. We wanted the mac and cheese, but unfortunately that was sold out too. The Buoy Bites were delicious and I had the Riptide Rita, which was also really good. Our waitstaff was great and took good care of us. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would come back.
