Old style family fish house. This is the type of place I came to love when I moved to the Piedmont back in the 1970's. We had a few of them back in the Mountains when I was growing up but here in the Piedmont, they were an institution. Not as popular as they used to be and some have closed but this is one of the best remaining ones. Located in Gaston County next to the South Fork River. It has they feel of a place where everyone is made to feel immediately at home. Like most fish camps, fried fish is the rule of thumb and theirs is excellent. Nice and crispy and while tartar sauce it the norm, I prefer either just lemon or malt vinegar. No problem. They also have fried oysters and fried chicken livers which I have had both as well as deviled crab. Portions are huge and I always end up taking the leftovers home. It was amazing especially their ranch, I recommend trying this Fish House it is very good and yummy. There fish is pretty fresh the service was okay although some workers there took a while for the food to come out although It was no biggie. And the Atmosphere inside of the restaurant is very cozy and homey it felt very serene and I was able to eat without any interruptions. read more

Back home visiting family and friends in Charlotte NC. Of course an annual visit to a fish camp. Several fish camps have either closed or cut hours, but Riverside still very popular and great seafood. No reservations taken but we were seated quickly to our table for 10, but only 9 could make it. Our server Allysha brought menus and took drink orders. We picked two servings of Onion Rings and one serving of Fried Squash for the table to share. Onion rings were ok but the Squash was terrific! Crispy outside and soft inside. My wife picked the Senior plate of Green Shrimp with a loaded baked potato. I went for the Butterflied Shrimp and Oysters, with an extra coleslaw for side. Pretty busy there about 4:15 on Friday. Our food took a bit of time but gave us a chance to visit and talk with the family and friends. Both our meals were excellent. My oysters thinly breaded and flash fried to be crispy outside and juicy inside. I wound up taking a few shrimp, coleslaw and about 20 hushpuppies back to hotel for next day. Excellent food, great service, a bit noisy but not so much so to prevent conversations. This will undoubtably be our annual go to for our visit. read more

They don't take reservations and still were able to get us in setting together and give us a great experience. I would definitely recommend. We've been told that this is THE place to get fried catfish in this area. When we visited on Friday night, we were very underwhelmed. I love the fact that this place is tucked out of the way, and off of the beaten path. Regardless, there are tons of cars in the parking lot, but the place is relatively large inside and they get you in quickly. The hostess was kind and efficient. We waited maybe 10 minutes on a Friday night at 7 pm. Our waitress was very kind and efficient as well. She brought our drinks and some hushpuppies to nosh on while we looked at the menu. She was able to help us out with our selections and made sure our drinks were filled. My only issue with this place is the food itself. And some people are going to love it, no doubt. But the things I ordered felt like they were from frozen fish and shrimp. The batter did not adhere to the shrimp and had that "ice coating" feel. I know, we can't get fresh shrimp in Dallas, NC, but a better preparation would remove that texture problem. The worst thing I had was the stuffed flounder. It looked like a huge fried softball. Ate one bite and left the rest. The food all tasted the same. Fried with little differentiation. The onion rings were delicious and I thought the slaw was good, too. The best thing about this place is the price, though. For 3 grown people, it cost $50. Unheard of for seafood. So, this is the reason for the third star, the incredible value of this place. If you aren't picky about the quality of your seafood or are just craving some fried food, give this place a try. Others rave about it! There are many great "fish camps" in Gaston county. Riverside very well claims the top of my list. The real star of the show here is the catfish filets. Best filets I have ever eaten in my life for sure. Great homemade tarter sauce, cocktail sauce, and an abundance of hush puppies. The jumbo shrimp is good also, but I think next time I will focus solely on the catfish filets. There is great value in the platter for two they offer, which is really enough for three or four people. I'm sticking to the catfish though. Always great friendly efficient service. read more

COME HERE FOR GREAT FISH AND GREAT SERVICE. We hadn't eaten here in about 18 years. Now we are moving closer so we stopped by after looking at our new house. The place is still as good. The building seems nicer and cleaner. The servers were ALL very nice and attentive. Christina, our server was FANTASTIC. Big helpings, delicious cole slaw. FIsh, green shrimp and deviled crab was very, very good. I would like to eat fish more often but rarely get good fish anywhere. Everything was great. A great place if you like fried fish. We were amazed at the number of cars outside and had to try it. the hug we portions and friendly staff make for a great casual dinner. I just recently tried their grilled fish and shrimp, which was great! The baked potato was cooked to perfection and the fried okra tastes homemade. Although there were several people waiting for tables these must have needed larger tables as we were seated upon arrival, waitress there within a minute/ friendly. Went in on a Saturday night and the place was fairly busy, we had our table within 10 minutes with about 3 tables in front of us. Wait staff was great, friendly and informative with great suggestions for first timers. Fish was fresh and was out within another 10-15min max. Went here for dinner the other night. The place was loud! Very dirty! Tables were hard wooden benches very uncomfortable. Waitress was sweet and courteous. Ordered the Fried Shrimp batter falling off not much flavor. Came with two sides slaw, bake potatoe and hush puppies. Switched out the hushpuppies for Fried Okra. Okra , potatoe and slaw good.
