Not a good Courtyard, to say the least. On the plus side, the location is good. And for us, the price was right because we were using free nights. Had I been paying for it, I would not have been happy. 1) Service was, at best, mixed. The front desk employees were friendly enough, but that was only when they actually chose to staff the desk. Need to call them for anything? Be prepared to be on hold for several minutes. One morning, I went downstairs to buy something at the store. There was nobody at the front desk, and I waited a good five minutes before somebody shows up. The only reason anyone did come over was because one of us went over to the cafe to ask them to call somebody. I thought about just taking what I needed and leaving the coupon for a free item there. Warning: Someday, somebody's going to steal everything in the pantry. Including the wine and the cookies. And not the Oreos; I mean the good cookies. 2) Internet: When it works, you are limited to three connections per room. Since most rooms accommodate four people, you're always going to have at least one person not connected. Seriously, it's 2018. Internet access should not come at a premium. Of course, frequently, it didn't work. That required a call to the front desk, who would then have to call the off-site internet repair desk, who would then have to call you back. And that didn't work because, as explained above, nobody at the front desk follows through. When I hadn't heard back from the internet help people, I called the front desk again. Of course, they hadn't gotten around to calling the help people again. 3) Failure to follow through on requests: The internet above, or something as simple as asking for more towels. The bottom line: CYs aren't full-service hotels, but they're at least expected to be reliable. I'm Platinum with Marriott, but next time around, I think I'll stay at one of the Hilton properties across the street. read more

Your typical Courtyard. The room was nice and comfy. The closet was a little small, as well as the ironing board. I'm 6'3", so trying to iron my shirt on that was challenging. I would expect a full size board. As previously said, it is close to shopping, entertainment, and dining. Was attending a wedding at the Silver Spring Civic Center and very convenient. And there was a festival going on too. Nice. Parking is free on the weekend, which is perfect. I'd hate to shell out the $9/day during the week, but I guess that is to be expected in a downtown area. Overall, I'd stay here again and will....another wedding in August at the Civic Center. Lol. read more

This is a great location for a quick weekend getaway. The rooms are clean, comfortable and I enjoyed my view. There are many places to eat or you can just check out the area. They did not adhere to the posted price for the conference I was attending. The manager (Roderick) was supposed to call me twice to discuss this discrepancy but did not. When I was finally able to get him on the phone he immediately was not able to talk and had to "go to a meeting" but said he would call me back. Surprise, he never did call me back as promised. The elevator was filthy throughout our week long stay. Our sheets had a rip in them and when housekeeping was called to provide new sheets they stated that they did not have time that day to provide new sheets. Also, they did not come the next day to change the sheets. Additionally, the tub did not drain at all while taking a shower which was disgusting. I was supposed stay for the next three weeks but cancelled the rest of my stay because of the poor service and overall state of the hotel. read more

I stay here a lot. It has a fabulous location with easy access to movies, restaurants, and the great gym that is on site. It suffers from neglect; the towels are something that you would expect in a hotel that rents by the hour. The beds are not very good, especially for the price they charge. Guys, you can do better. You have an incredible location, and you are getting prime rates for a grade C accommodation. Step up your game and join the modern world with good linens and good beds and internet that is reasonable speed instead of the dial up quality you have now. For this price you should also provide breakfast or at least a voucher for the Whole Foods across the street. Oh yeah, this is an incredibly good grocery store with great take out foods and omelets made to order on weekends. Don't waste your time with the breakfast operation in the lobby; Whole Foods is way way better. read more

Pretty much your typical Courtyard Marriott...EXCEPT that the fitness area is the Washington Sports Club, open from 5-11 M-Th, 5-10 F, and 8-8 on the weekends. There are group fitness classes, mostly in the evenings, that you can use as a hotel guest, whch is great. And while the DC area has spotty availability of Comedy Central (perhaps a bit too rude) at the Marriott hotels, this hotel has Direct TV complete with Comedy Central access. On the down side- the free internet is slow, althought this is hardly a surprise for any Courtyard. And my room was remote control-free when I arrived. It took the desk 30 minutes to send up a replacement, which seemed a bit slow to me. As others have noted, the room standard is the world's noisiest wall-mount heater/AC unit- same as all other Courtyards. The price is about right for the amenities and the area, IMHO. The DC area tends to be pricey. read more

I arrived at this hotel with my in-laws who had had reservations here after a 10pm cross-country flight. After our long journey, were we met with courteous, attentive and quick staff? No we were not. In fact "staff" implies a plural and there was only one person running the hotel front desk. This person was also running the desk of the attached hotel, answering calls and getting various refreshments for guests. I do not blame this person for being stuck with all these jobs but it would have nice if they had acknowledged our existence with a quick "I'll be with you in a minute" or "sorry for the delay" but we (and other people waiting) were genuinely unsure that this person was going to check us in. What kind of business makes one person run a busy hotel? Also, for other Yelpers I would like you to know that I originally posted a quick short review that the Hotel requested Yelp remove. It read: "Absolute rubbish service. One person running two hotels at 10pm. Slow as all hell." Any excuse to make the hotel look better than it is I guess is their policy. I hope my extended comments above qualify as a "substantive consumer experience" and I encourage others to repost any removed reviews that refuse to let places like this put a misrepresentative gloss on guest experiences. UPDATE: This sad excuse for a hotel had my review removed again because it was "second hand information." Although my in-laws were the ones staying in the hotel, I was with them the entire time and checked them in because they have limited English skills. It was very much first hand. My room was very nice, quiet, and clean. Comfortable bed. I would have preferred a fan inside the bathroom ceiling so the mirror didn't fog up, but no biggie. They have a coin laundry machine, and free internet was easy to use. Good location for walking to places. There is currently some sort of remodeling that closed the front entrance, so I had to enter from the back parking garage, which was fine. Room was a bit pricey at $220 for 1 night. read more

Recently stayed here for 3 nights and it was a very good stay, clean hotel, spacious room and bathroom, good location accessible to everything, easy check-in/out attended the 30th Annual Black History Swim Invitational @Takoma Aquatic Center it was convenient to get back and forth by bus ,the staff where cool & friendly, the breakfast eggs and toast where not great but the grab and go items i.e.:cereal, fruit yogurt coffee tea juice and my daughter liked the bacon(really) where the best and cross the street you can visit Whole Foods for breakfast lunch & dinner, as a good option. read more

We stayed on the 10th floor and really enjoyed our room. The whole place was very clean. The hallway to our room smelt so good, sort of a fruity clean smell. Our king bed was extremely comfortable with very soft sheets and good pillow choices. The hotel is also in a very good location. A lot of food and shop choices. This hotel has to be one of my fav so far in the DMV. It's a bit hard to locate / get to from the metro but thanks to google maps got there with the directions. The hotel is located in downtown silver spring with many food options and a shopping center. I love the customer service here and the people that were staying in the hotel seem to be as friendly and satisfied with the service. The room was in great condition and feel comfortable sleeping in it. Good choice for a short weekend stay! read more

Treated like crap after staying for 20 days. All I wanted was my final CORRECT bill. After (no kidding) 12 phone calls to several staff, salespersons, and a manager, I get told basically no one can help me get a simple bill stating the exact days I stayed there. The first problem was that they randomly charged me for food I did not eat. I'm spending over $4,000 on a hotel stay. I promise you, I'm not going to worry about $11 in food unless I genuinely did not eat it. After four phone calls, that finally got resolved. The next issue is that someone rebated several nights' stay on my bill. I have to file a travel voucher saying I stayed there X number of nights, so I really can't have a few nights comp'd for no reason on my bill. After several calls (betweeen not receiving a final bill and trying to get someone to send it to me, all the way to talking to a manager about the specific nights), the manager tells me he can put the nights back on the bill, but that the final bill will not reflect how many nights I actually stayed there. Genius. I have much tougher problems in my life. I should be so lucky to have a job where the toughest solution I need to provide is to correct a simple hotel receipt. As far as the room - it was SMALL. The refrigerator didn't work half the time and the staff was using rooms on the same floor every weekend I was there - like using for loud parties. I guess that's what the staff is busy doing instead of providing positive guest experiences. I have Marriott hotel points and after this experience, I will use the days up and switch to ANY other hotel chain loyalty club. read more

Got put on the 6th floor next to college kids who were room-hopping and talking all night. Paper-thin walls and connecting doors to rooms made it feel like a dormitory. Other people on floor complained and then me. Front desk stated they would send security to talk with these kids, but nothing happened until they finally got tired at 3:00 am, shut up and went to bed. This hotel has a veneer of upper class, but is cheaply constructed and service response sucked. The fitted sheet didn't fit the mattress and kept coming off. Middle drawer on bureau wouldn't close properly. Really a poor example of a Marriott hotel. read more

I typically appreciate Courtyards, but this one was meh. I received no acknowledgement as a Rewards member - which i usually do- no cookie or other little token of appreciation upon check in. Was it bcs i was using my annual free night? That doesn't usually result in lackluster treatment. Reception was ok but not particularly friendly. The first room i got was right across from the elevator and ice machines. Since i'm a light sleeper, i asked for a room change and that worked. I wanted a glass of wine at 11:30pm, but the bar had closed at 10pm (Sunday night, though Labor Day weekend), and they had 5 kinds of beer in the Mart but no wine available :( so i had to trek around the half-deserted neighborhood to find wine. No minibar in the room either. The room itself was nice and up to par... but otherwise, i was not impressed. Convenient to Whole Foods, CVS etc in daytime which is a plus. And the gym access also a plus. However, somehow the overall experience didn't impress me favorably that night. read more

Stayed here during my touristy trip to DC, I know I'll be back again someday to see more stuff! This place was awesome! Maybe not the best place I've ever stayed but it definitely wasn't anywhere near the worst place I stayed! We got in super late at night and the entrance from the parking garage is accessible from the 5th floor bridge, although I guess that floor is the 3rd floor to the hotel because the first 2 floors are an actual gym (that locals pay to be a part of but hotel guests can use), it even has a lap pool! Anyways, our room was nice and clean, I just threw all my stuff on the floor, found pjs, washed my face and went to bed. My bf utilized the desk area to work all morning while I slept in a little bit and then I went downstairs and got us some breakfast at the bistro. I think breakfast and an oj for the both of us came out to a little over $20 but I couldn't even finish my whole breakfast. -_- I always order the biggest meal and only end up eating half of it... Sigh. Oh well, it was really yummy, probably better than where we would have ended up eating breakfast. There was a mall area behind the hotel that I kept asking my bf if we could go to because I REALLY wanted a tiny crossbody purse instead of my ginormous heavy satchel purse. But no, we didn't end up going, it was nice that that was an option though. We drove around and saw some pretty cool buildings in the area, Discovery and a therapeutics company that had a HUGE screen with wildlife clips playing, some kids and parents were outside the building just enjoying the clips the morning we drove by. Anyways, we had a good night's rest before our crazy weekend trying to cram all the sights in. read more

I have stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Downtown Silver Spring many times because my company has a corporate rate and the office is down the road. I continue to stay at this hotel because the location is convenient- it's close to the Whole Foods, movie theater and many stores. I also like that the hotel gym is the Washington Sports Club. However, every time I've stayed at the Courtyard, I've had issues with cleanliness of the room. I've found hairs that are NOT mine multiple times I've stayed in the bathroom and bedsheets. I've also found a cockroach in the bathtub, and most recently when I entered the room I found the toilet seat lid open with dirty toilet paper inside. When I complained to management they said they'd send somebody up to clean. However, when I returned to my room hours later I found that they left the door to the room entirely ajar and anyone could've entered and stolen my belongings! This is obviously unacceptable and they really need to up their game when it comes to cleanliness. read more

Stayed 12/24-12/27/2017. Great location, subpar cleanliness and security. The lobby of this hotel had random men who were clearly not hotel guests or security, hanging out in the lobby all day and night--it felt very UNSAFE! I have stayed here twice. The hotel is in a perfect location for entertainment and transportation. It seems to be a magnet for local hangers-on as well. People seem to park in the municipal lot adjoining the hotel and use the lobby to get to the street. This place needs better security, for sure! There is a nice lobby with chairs and TVs and a fireplace. The hotel advertises this great "bistro," but the 4 days I was there, it was never open. And the only people in the lobby were men who had wandered in from off the street. My travel companion was yelled at by two men in the elevator that goes from the street to the lobby (unlikely these guys were hotel guests) and called a "f-ing b!". Where is the staff? No security? Front desk was usually unattended. Most of the staff I did see gave service that was anemic, at best. The rooms, unfortunately, are also pretty rundown. My first visit, the rooms seemed cleaner. This visit, my second, the plaster in the tub was in decay, wallpaper was dirty; I always check mattresses--no bedbugs, but the actual mattress was falling apart. Also, it took forever to get hot water from the faucet. The elevators to the rooms were filthy. And the elevator from the street to the lobby was filthy as well, and the door to those lobby elevators was not reliably locked at 10pm as advertised. There were also people loitering under the awning near the entrance all night. If you want to feel safe, not have random people who are not guests hanging out in the lobby at all hours staring at you or verbally assaulting you in the elevator, and be in a hotel where the management takes pride in service or cleanliness beyond the absolute bare minimum, this hotel is NOT for you. I thought Courtyard Marriott was a reliable brand, but this place does not meet the standards I would have expected. Not even close. read more

I enjoyed staying at Marriott brand for the past two years and stayed more than 50 nights so far. However, my experience at this particular location up on my arrival was beyond extremely negative. I have made reservations online through my app like I usually do and I walked in around 4:45am in the morning, up on my arrival no one said if they can help me. There were two gentlemen standing but they were busy talking to each other, I said I have reservations for today, the gentleman named Rodrick Campbell (operations manager) said your reservation won't be ready until 3pm, and I said do you guys have room right now. He said he already answered my question three times already which is I can't check in until 3pm later during the day time. But that wasn't my question because I know how it rolls and what normally they do is they will cancel my reservation for later that day and check me in right on spot to check out later same day, but Mr Rodrick was very rude like very rude that he wasn't even willing to hear me out and finally he said he will call a security on me and he start dialing the number and hung up. I couldn't understand at the moment what did I do wrong for someone at his position instead of helping me trying to call a security to kick me out. I haven't said anything to make him upset. I don't believe this Guy knows the value of customer and customer service, we pay you to be there, Marriott isn't paying a penny from his pocket its as that simple to know the value of customer service. I am a district Manger for food restaurants chain and I know how it is very important to take every one concern in to hands. I just walked out so pissed at this guy who represents a big brand with so much unprofessional characters for his position. Nothing will ever ever make me go to this particular location for sure and If Marriott fails to disciple this unprofessional rude person, then I guess I will look another option on the table as there is so much to places to go. I hope Marriott would take my experience at the highest level and made sure this won't ever happen at any of there Locations, but this guy is a trash. Really nice for a Courtyard Marriott - great location, clean, staff was really helpful and nice. Lobby area has great gathering area and nice little cafe. The only exception was the housekeeping staff. Make SURE you put out your do not disturb sign or they will wake you at the crack of dawn (8 am) and make sure you are up. We did not have a DND sign in my room - looked everywhere. So, we were not happy to be woke up at 8 am - because I'm from the West cost and it is 5 am my time. And, I was in Silver Springs for both pleasure and work. The housekeeper was super mean about not having a sign out and that we were not having the room serviced when SHE WAS READY. I was on the 6th floor. It happened twice - on the first night when we did not have a sign and it was almost 11 pm when we checked in the night before (so tired and did not hassle with getting a sign). Plus, who wakes people up at 8 am in an international destination city. And, then this morning - forgot to put it out last night. Someone should tell you when checking in that you have to put a sign out or you the housekeeping people will harass you until you get out of bed and let them clean. Also, the blankets on CYM beds are like Kleenex. I'm not sure why they provide these blankets in a cold area of the United States. We requested an extra blanket and there was none to be found by the staff. I'm not sure why they could not get one off one of the beds in an empty room because the hotel was obviously not full. Two Kleenex blankets would have made our better. When I come back in a few weeks, I will stay someplace else and not recommend this hotel to my colleagues - because most people like sleep. It's too bad, because this really is one the best CYM properties I have stayed at. . .but, hotels are places where you have high hopes of getting some sleep. read more
