This was our second experience here. The first time was much better. Upon arrival our room wasn't ready yet so we got a cocktail that was overly priced for one being a mocktail and the pina colada was way too icey but I didn't send back. We did receive a complimentary upgrade that was much appreciated but the distance was too far for my family member that has mobility issues so they offered us a wheelchair to use for our stay and the second night transitioned us into a better distanced room for their needs. This time of year is insanely buggy and the gnats were HORRIBLE. The pool was covered on the second day in dead gnats floating in the water. The room plants need to be ripped up as they contribute to gnats on the balconies. The beds must have been traded out because they are HARD as a rock. There was a gentleman in the front appearing to be a manager I don't get his name- he was great. Marriott needs to train their staff on helping those in wheelchairs and mobility issues. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE coming to a door that doesn't automatically open. Please help, it's the kind human thing to do... it takes 5 seconds to hold the door and give someone a smile. We probably won't be back to this location based off of the majority of the staff lack of compassion & the beds being rock hard. After spending $300+ in the off season nightly if doesn't sit well. read more

I recently stayed at this beachfront hotel. It has a beautiful pool, is right on the beach, and is very nice inside, with ample parking, a Starbucks, and a small convenience store on site. However, the customer service was poor. At night, there is no housekeeping or maintenance available. When I initially arrived, I was given a room where the door was already open and wouldn't close, so I had to be moved. Even after that, no one came to fix the bathroom as requested or consistently bring items to the room. I requested items multiple times over 4-5 hours, was told they were on the way, but they never arrived I eventually had to go get them myself. When I brought these issues to their attention, they did apologize I wouldn't stay here again unless I were on a budget and customer service wasn't a top priority. read more

I was here for a team retreat the second week of January, and was more than satisfied with this hotel. There's direct access to the beach, and a nice looking pool/jacuzzi outdoors. There's room was definitely renovated at some point over the past couple of years. The rooms were clean and spacious. The doors aren't completely soundproof, but the walls do a good job. This place is pet friendly for a fee, and there's a pet waste station. There's a bar/restaurant on site, and weekly activities such as yoga and bike rentals. It's a family friendly hotel. Since it was off season for the beach, things were a little quiet, but I recommend visiting in the off season! Going to the beach in the winter is always super cool. I'd definitely stay here again. read more

In a very confusing arrangement this place is joined with another hotel. When I came down for breakfast (I wasn't alerted by the staff at checking) there was no obvious place to eat. I went over to two bored staffers at what looked like a coffee stand and asked where breakfast was. They asked if I had a wristband. Nope. Don't know anything about that. They said -- that's for the other hotel. You have to pay for breakfast separately here. Very limited menu. Ordered one thing and then they came over to my table to tell me they didn't have it. Left in disgust. Even the lowest end Super 8 type place has a basic breakfast bar with some choices. Not this place. read more

We checked in only for one night as we were on our way home and decided to extend our short getaway. Since they offered not only the largest pool on Jekyll Island but a heated one, I chose this property as a result. Pools are my only chance to exercise and stretch. I am awaiting having surgery on my back as I broke it in two places. It was the ONLY reason we took a detour to stay here. Please don't tell me Marriott that it was my responsibility to find out that your heating unit was busted and that your pool was ice cold. Notify, advertise, let customers know for heaven's sake. I pity any Northerners who arrived here to get away from the winter's chill only to find out they can't even enjoy this amenity. The rates here are seriously over inflated. It's the off off season. You don't get housekeeping, you provide no service in the pool area, you lack staffing, yet you give no breaks to your loyal customers. The overall property is well kept, has easy access to the beach, has a huge lobby with numerous attractive seating areas, and sports a decor that is tasteful. Unfortunately, that's where the accolades end. The following lists details some of the hotel's shortcomings: The Junior Suite - these accommodations are certainly not worthy of its category upgrade nor the higher price. The bowling lane lay-out is awful. As you walk in, you have the sleeping area. No windows and not a great deal of extra space as the beds occupy most of the room. It feels awkward and claustrophobic. The small hallway has a tiny closet, and next door is the bathroom. In this day and age, the extremely shallow tub shower combination should just be purged forever from hotel rooms. Unless you are a child or an extremely small adult, there is absolutely no way you could enjoy a bath here. Showering? For me too dangerous to even try. No non slip surfaces and a grab bar that is placed in an area that offers no added security. The living area has a big L shaped couch, a chair, a TV, and one tiny measly table. So impractical It's crazy. While the bedroom has lights that shine like a theater marquee, here only one floor lamp emits a not too cozy or ample enough brightness. Sliding glass doors lead to a very large patio style deck. Space is ample but offers absolutely zero privacy. Not only can every room with a balcony see you, but your neighbors can even look into your living space. Whoever designed this unit needs to find another occupation. The view - Yes of course you pay a chunk more for an ocean view, and we did. Unfortunately the palm trees blocked most of it, and the only way to catch a glimpse of the water was to stand in a corner at the end of the patio. You saw nothing from the living area. You wouldn't even know you were on the ocean when seated inside or out. If the waves were crashing you might get a hint that the Atlantic was just over the dunes. Staff - Don't bother asking anyone a question. They usually answer with an "I don't know". Just an uniformed group that clearly have blinders on. At least the bartender knew about the broken pool heater, but little else. Handicap accessibility - I have become a strong advocate for the rights of disabled folks. It took me months in a wheelchair to realize how many places not only ignore but don't truly understand the limitations of people with disabilities. Every establishment should utilize these folks when planning and building new structures. The front doors were automatic, but that is where convenience and accessibility stopped. The doors to the pool and beach were extremely heavy and had no handicap button to activate an automated door system. The isolated restroom off the lobby was the same. I had to get out of my wheelchair and awkwardly maneuver and push it just to get passed the initial door. How many folks don't have the luxury of being able to do that? Many. Shameful that a property such as this would not be more sensitive to this population. In the end, this hotel won't make our "visit again" list. There were just too many strikes against it. read more

Ok, boring stuff out of the way: rooms, service, location blah blah it's all great. Exactly what you expect at a nice tropical island beach resort. Brenda at the front desk though - MAN she's great. You know it's people like that that really make the difference between having an ok stay and excellent stay. She's so awesome and really made the difference. She's top notch professional (something that's lacking these days in hospitality) and she really know's her stuff and how to make your stay special plus she's solution oriented. Bill, One of the maintenance/care takers of the property, is the BEST too! He's so friendly and accommodating and personable it really made me and my wife feel comfortable and at home. Mr. Harry too. Great guy. Oh also Bill if you see this we did bike the whole island that day and we brought plenty of water with us :) read more

NO AC!!!! HOT!!!! Ac has ecomode which means you have to be in the room for it to work. Paid $300+ and after driving 6hrs get to a room at 10:45pm in August in Georgia and the room is scorching hot upon arrival at 78-79. After 45 min it's still 75 in here. Then asked and they said if you leave the room goto beach etc during day AC will shut off and takes about 1-2 hrs after you return to cool. Went down talked to front staff about switching to cooler room checked another ocean front room and sam Unbelievable. Not acceptable . read more

New hotel and very clean. You can walk straight onto the beach. Within walking distance of a great waterpark. But I would not stay here again. I have come to the island many times and usually stay on at the Westin. It is much better. Staff at this hotel were difficult to work with. Everything was a challenge and it felt like I was inconvenience for the staff. Bar was out of basic staples. On site Starbucks couldn't get my order right and apparently the folks behind me in line. Location is key. Right on the beach and zillions of sand dollars to scavenge. Check in was ok. Not very hospitable. The bartenders made up for it. They were excellent. What you should know is that there are mosquitos and gnats everywhere. You MUST, and with emphasis on MUST, have bug spray. Use cans of it! This Island is a marsh and you will get eaten alive. It is very unfriendly to humans. Hotel rooms should come with bug spray on this Island, automatically. You cannot even enjoy the pool/hot tub. It is painful but beautiful at the dame time. I booked a one week stay at the Residence Inn and the day before my check in, called to inquire about the resort fee that I'd read in these other reviews. The front desk manager, "Eddie" answered and by the end of the call, his condescension, disrespect, aggression and clear lack of hospitality training lead to my cancelling my reservation. I have never been so disrespected by someone in the hospitality industry as I was by that clown. When I called back the next day asking to speak to the GM, he yelled repeatedly "we got it my dude" and "I know all of your information my dude" before hanging up. Don't stay here. Don't trust the people working here. They're a licensed property and are very poorly representing the Marriott brand. Marriott should do themselves a favor and end this agreement for breach of contract. I'm just thankful I had this experience before I arrived and not once I was on property. read more

The staff and stay was phenomenal! Customer service is on 10 at this location! Mama, Ashley at the bar, Shane, Maurice-- all super helpful and accommodating. The hotel was quite busy during my stay, my requests were granted in a timely manner, and they had a nice handle on things. We were attending an event at The Westin and we opted for (and much preferred) the vibes (and live music) here at our bar instead. The hotel itself is new and quite nice w/ great amenities and "resort fee credit" offers. I loved the Courtyard/Residence Inn "mashup" concept that it's giving. My suite was spacious with an awesome layout. Overall, great stay and I'll be back to give the pool and beach a whirl when it warms up! read more

We stayed in the Residence Inn portion of the hotel with a two room suite facing the ocean. It was easy to check in and receive room keys plus a mobile key on your Marriott app. They have carts that you can load your luggage on to take to your room. We checked into our room and it was very nice. It came with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. There was a sofa bed in the living room that we used for our son to sleep on at night, and housekeeping gave us sheets and a pillow for that bed. The balcony stretched across the two rooms and overlooked the ocean and part of the pool. The rooms are strongly soundproofed, so when our son cried at night, it was faint outside of the room. Thankfully we did not receive any complaints from the rooms on either side of us. The hallways were quiet, and there weren't a lot of people staying around us. The room was dog friendly, so our dog was able to come with us. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils, plates, cups, pots and pans, paper towels, and dishwasher powder. We were able to make lunches and snacks and store them in the refrigerator. The food in the on-site restaurant was good, and we had dinner twice. The only food we wouldn't recommend was the pizza, but the steak quesadilla, smash burger, fried shrimp, and fries were good. they also had a full bar with liquor, beer, and wine. The only complaint I have is that housekeeping never came to clean our room, so there was a lot of trash and dirty towels in our room when we left. Otherwise, we enjoyed this hotel and thought the room was perfect for our family. read more

Very underwhelming experience at the Courtyard. Based on my visit, this hotel is in serious need of being updated. The carpeting in my room was covered in stains. When I was in the living room/sitting area, the remote wouldn't work on the TV, so I went to try and figure out what was happening. The mounting at the top of the bracket was busted, where the TV was hanging forward, and it was pushing the bottom of the TV in where the receptor couldn't pick up the remote signal. I tried to straighten the TV out, but it was completely broken and I'm not on Marriott's payroll to fix things. In the bathroom, there was a picture hung too high, so they rehung the picture a few inches lower. They just left the holes in place from the original screws, no attempt to patch, and it just looks janky. I bumped this review up one star, to a two star overall, based on the wonderful views that you get from a generously sized deck coming off of the oceanfront room. read more

We made reservations at this hotel as a getaway for Thanksgiving it's been a few years. We arrived Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving at check in the representative asked me for a credit card for incidentals, Upon getting in the room we were surprised that the room was not clean, stains on the carpet food on the floor, hair, just dirty we took pictures and went to the front desk and they said that they should have cleaned better. They did not even get us a clean room we just tried to deal with what we had and ended up going to sleep. The next morning I opened the curtains to see the beach and turned the sunlight showed just how dirty the room was. I again went to the front desk and told them so e decided to go to the free breakfast they had boxed eggs that were not cooked all the way and leftover shrimp according to the staff that bacon hash browns were not ordered it was terrible the staff in the cafeteria area was less than happy with the manager which they spoke out in front of the guest, We went to our room and the breakfast made us sick, Last time we visited they had Thanksgiving dinner in the front restaurant a real nice setting this year it was moved to a conference room and it looked like they forgot a few things especially for $54 a plate so we got our money back and went to the pub down the road ended up having potato soup when I got back to the Marriott I went to the desk and asked to leave early they allowed me to check out especially with all the issues. We left I would not recommend the Marriott on Jekyll to anyone read more

After reading some mixed reviews, I was unsure about staying here. I'm glad we decided to. We booked on the Courtyard side. The hotel is right on the beach and has a nice pool. One of my concerns is the ramp to the beach. At the end there is at least a 10-12" drop when you reach the sand. For anyone using a wheelchair, this isn't ideal and does not provide beach access. If you are a light sleeper, this probably isn't the hotel for you. At random times throughout the day and night you can hear a very loud drain. There's also a metal drain cover in the shower. When the shower head drops water on it, it sounds like a drum. When we arrived the metal cover was leaned in the corner, we now know why. There is also a bright green light that flashes on the smoke detector, which is placed right above the headboard. You will be charged a $20 destination fee each day. You can use $10 of that at the market. The price list at the market showed several items, but none of those were stocked while we were here. There isn't always someone at the bar during the day. There is a Starbucks, but it's only open for morning coffee. Sometimes there is someone working the desk after, but they only have black coffee. So around lunch time you can only get a drink from the market. The coffee machine in the market was shut down. The front desk employees were very nice and always friendly. There is a shuttle to anywhere on the island, however anytime we wanted to use it, it was unavailable. They do have tons of bikes available. As of April 2022, housekeeping is not cleaning rooms daily. There is no Do Not Disturb sign, so unfortunately housekeeping woke us up early on our check out day. read more

Early checkin promised through Marriott titanium elite status and they DID NOT keep promise. They also don't bring the Bedding or towels as requested. Went out of my way to request things early so they'd be set. I have Chat message verifying that they will "have it all ready at your early check in". Ha! We really enjoyed our stay at The Courtyard. Check in was simple with a really friendly staff. The hotel was fresh, with a beachy-elegant decor. Our room was very clean. The decor in the room was nice, and the bathroom walk in shower was a nice modern feel. They had a great restaurant for lunch by the pool (or inside too) and dinner in the lobby or the outdoor seating areas. We ate at the restaurant twice in the two days we stayed, and the food and service was great! The pool area was very big and relaxing. Almost like two pools joined together. There was a lush, grassy area for corn hole, another area for outdoor games and in the back corner of the property they had a pet grass area. I have honestly never seen such thick, soft, green grass like this! It was more lush than zoysia! So beautiful! They had a couple of areas set up for fire pits with comfy furniture. Many people sat out in the evening to enjoy them. The hotel is joined with a Residence Inn, so I'm sure you could choose either hotel side and get the same great experience. Just passed the pool area is a pedestrian walkway to the beach. It is a perfect setup. Beach and pool right there. The beach was clean and lots of space to walk. We traveled with two dogs which isn't always easy, but we were really able to enjoy everything here. We loved everything about this hotel and will definitely book again. Thanks Marriott! Worst experience staying at a Marriott property ever. We arrived late on a Wednesday night to the Residence Inn on Jekyll Island, GA. We just went to our room and dropped our things off and planned to try and grab a late dinner. The room smelled weird, but we left to get dinner at the one place that was still open. Shores, I think it was called. At dinner we saw our waitress (Kendall) twice the entire meal. Kendall took our order, then a bartender brought two of our three drinks, the server brought our third drink after we let them know we never got it and then eventually Kendall brought the check and said "sorry, I had to help someone else". Would have been nice to have some ketchup or more napkins, maybe a refill on the drinks. The food was good. Chalked dinner up to it being late and not much open on Jekyll Island at 8:15 PM. Went back to our room and the smell was still bad and even stronger the more time we spent there. Figured out it was dog (or animal) urine. It was overwhelming. Slept that night in the urine-soaked hell hole and the next morning talked to the front desk person and explained our room is filled with dog urine and they said they would check it out and maybe send housekeeping up there to clean. We used suite upgrade nights to get this upgraded room. Also, we are "dog people" and have two rescues so we loved seeing all the dogs around the property but it's clear this facility does not know how to clean rooms after animals stay in them. The next day we did some sightseeing and got back to our room, and it was no different, but the smell got stronger with time. In fact, I feared the urine smell would permeate our clothes. The front desk rep said they'd move our room. A different front desk person came up to our floor and opened our old room to allow us to get our stuff out. I asked the person "did someone from Marriott have to come into this room at some point with this smell and condition and make a decision that this room is ok to rent to guests?" and the person said "yes, sorry, that's insane" The new room was a handicap accessible room. Besides the fact I feel it's inappropriate to take that room in the event there is a person who needs it those rooms are awful. We asked for a non-handicap accessible room, and one was suggested down the hall. No one serviced our room in 4 days. No trash taken out, no fresh towels, no tissues, etc. In the end I checked out early, went to a Holiday Inn Express in Savannah - it was beautiful. Normally I'm a "Marriott guy" but I'm going to start re-thinking that. No word from Marriott about oh, you stayed in a room filled with animal urine or excrement - we'll refund that night or give you some bonus points, or anything that shows you they care about their guests. read more

It's hard to believe this combination Residence Inn-Courtyard building is Marriott's representative on Jekyll Island, known for great places to stay for decades. Problems: - A not very well equipped 'restaurant' that doesn't seem to have good food, more like a fast food joint. There's a Starbucks counter but the hours are limited and the 'barista' is not there hardly at all, just another general employee that wanders over (or not) if they see you looking unhappy at the lack of attention. - There's no place to put your luggage except one flat built in just big enough for a moderate/small suitcase or backpack. But you have to keep your clothes in the suitcase or lay them on the floor because there is no place with drawers to put your clothes...except for the tiny night stand drawers. There are no suitcase stands available anywhere in the building despite numerous requests to get some for our suitcases. - The only 'amenities' in the room are three wall-mounted containers in the shower, one each of Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash. No body lotions or small fragment of a bar of soap. It would've been nice to have it since the Body Wash and Shampoo dispensers in the shower were empty. - At a hotel on the beach you'd expect to find at least 4 sets of towels in a room advertised as able to hold 4 people (a Queen/king and a hide a bed [an aching back]). Instead there's only two minimal sized sets (wash cloth , hand towel, and a standard bath towel {not beach towel}). - Several people in our hall asked for more bed linen (cold and moist air) but got bed pads instead of blankets or sheets...ridiculous putting bed pads on the top sheet instead of on top of the mattress where it's supposed to be used. NOTE: a quilted bed pad is to put under humans not to be used as a short, pseudo blanket. And they did give us a pillow, but also threw a pillowcase on the bed so we could put it on the pillow. So we are housekeeping, too... in an almost $400/night room. How far Marriott has fallen on Jekyll. read more

We paid a lot for this hotel. Unfortunately they think it's a good idea to put a flashing light on the smoke detector right above the bed. Imaging being the person that thinks putting a flashing light above the bed is a good idea. I'd sleep better in my car than I would in this dump. read more

We were looking forward to staying at a nice hotel but this wasn't it. The carpet had large stains, the door to the room would not shut properly and the toilet didn't work well. The man at the desk who I won't mention by name was both arrogant and rude. In contrast, another staff member named Brenda was kind but limited on how she could assist. I accidentally left some clothes hanging on the bathroom hook when we left and called the afternoon we checked out to see about getting them. The housekeeping staff never returned my call (I suspect they do not work on site for Marriot) and when I called multiple times to the front desk the next day when I didn't hear back from housekeeping , I was told they spoke with someone in housekeeping and the clothes were not found. I suspect they were thrown away but given that I attempted to get them back the same day as check out, I thought for sure I could retrieve them. I would not recommend this hotel and was surprised at its condition and poor service, given the price and hotel name. read more

Very disappointed. The resort is beautiful. The rooms are standard, nothing special. When booking we requested extra towels. Upon checking in on a Friday, we had 2 towels. As of today, Monday, our room has never been cleaned. Each day when we leave our room there has been a cleaning cart in the hallway. But our room has not been cleaned. We have spoken to front desk. We have spoken to a cleaning lady that we saw in the hall & was told it was not one of her rooms to clean. Seriously?? We travel a lot and have never had a problem like this. read more

6/10/21 The booking process replied "get a better room?" with an additional fee for "ocean view". Sounded good. Unfortunately, what we got is a room overlooking the interior courtyard and pool. Yes, you can "see" the ocean....a little bit....from a certain angle. I paid for an upgrade to get an "ocean view". This was extremely disappointing and misleading. I called the front desk immediately and asked for them to change our room or discount us for misleading booking. They did neither. "We're all booked. Sorry!" 6/11/21 Then we were BLASTED out of bed this morning with a fire alarm at 6:00AM. Everyone had to spill outdoors and wait. No staff came out to speak with anyone or inform anyone what was going on. No managers addressed anyone during the entire experience. Well....you could make the best of it and grab a cup of complimentary coffee right? No. You can BUY some coffee at their interior Starbucks. Unless you book on the "residence" side of this hotel, you get nickel and dimed for everything. I wish that had been made clear in advance during booking. Maybe they should convert the toilets to coin-operated while they're at it. That SAME night, housekeeping knocked on our door at 10:45PM "did you ask for towels?" NO. We did not. We did not ask to be blasted out of bed at 6AM and we did not ask to be disturbed by housekeeping at quarter of 11 the very same DAY!! 6/12/21 UPDATE: Day two....FIRE ALARMS AGAIN at 9:00AM!!! Two days in a row. Should I be grateful that this one occurred at 9AM rather than 6AM? The room is mediocre. The pillows are sub-par to other Marriotts, the faucet in the bathtub is detaching from the wall when you pull the lever to switch from tub to shower, no ventilation in the bathroom, no pad of paper/pen. There was a used coffee pod in the machine awaiting us. The thermostat is tedious and dysfunctional. When I tried to order some breakfast, half the menu was unavailable due to "no avocados". It just goes on and on. This is not a good experience for a room priced at over $360/night. Management should have responded properly to my first call and made an effort to rectify. ANY symbolic gesture could have prevented this review. This has been an insulting experience thus far. The 6AM fire alarm and the 9AM fire alarm the next day with ZERO managerial presence just pushed the whole thing off the cliff. I'm in the process of buying a house on Jekyll right now. Very nice and a good place to relax at the oceanfront. The island is beautiful with lots of public beach access and bike trails. That hotel has restaurant with good food and adequate bar for those who imbibe. The only thing needed was an extra waste can in the room. New facility still undergoing landscaping.
