AMAZING NURSE AIDS WHO WILL GO ABOVE AND BEYONE TO HELP ANY PATIENT IN NEED OF ANYTHING AT ANYTIME! I am extremely sadden to say that this nursing home was bought out by a company that has terrible managers who treat the Nurse Aids with no basic human rights, they do not respect their needs when it comes to needing to use the bathroom, having one day of off due to terrible scheduling, being paid in correctly after working overtime, and being rude to the Nurse Aids who spend each day loving what they do for work but struggling to live in these disrespectful conditions to any human. I pray that God helps whoever bought this Nursing Home and teaches them how to properly take care of their staff in order to make justice on this treatment that is being done to the hard working Nurse Aids! read more

If I could give no stars I would. My mother is currently in this rehab and I have never seen a facility operate in this manner. I have tried to address my issues with the director and administrator but all they can do is say they are sorry. I asked the NP questions about my mother's conditions and still have yet to get an answer yet to those questions. I sat inside the facility for hours and my mom asked the CNA for help but the CNA just got frustrated with an attitude like my mother was asking her for too much. No matter what nurse or CNA we ask for help, it always seems to be a bother. I am truly disgusted with the care quality that this facility offers and the attention to detail that they have. The only staff that I can say genuinely care about the patients are the people from PT and OT and dialysis. read more

Like others, I want to leave the place a good review, but I can't. My dad was a resident at Courtyard 2018 - 2019. I moved him late 2019. The staff always felt good, kind, and caring for my Dad. I appreciated their care for him very much. There was not nearly enough staff. They were overwhelmed, overworked. A man screamed across the hall from my father for help nonstop. It was clear he needed more care and the staff did not have enough hands. it was unnerving to leave my dad in a home across the hall from someone screaming for help multiple times every hour. The one star comes from the administration. They were truly frightening. My dad was a vet, and the transition from assisted living to nursing home caused some financial changes. MassHealth was taking over from the VA's Aid and Attendance. The interrim financial director understood and helped me figure this out. The financial director of Genesis was a nightmare. She called me, threatening, not understanding the issue, telling me she understood, and using the fact of my father's care as a threat, while the issue was something the VA and Massachusetts were sorting out between them. I felt enraged by the call, disgusted that my Dad's care was a financial line item, and luckily he was off the waitlist for the Chelsea Soldier's Home, and I was able to move him. The staff have heart. I don't wish anyone the nightmare of the administration here. Elder care is stressful enough as it is. read more

My mom was at courtyard for about a month. The nursing staff is incredible. They were happy, caring and genuinely warm. They took special care to make sure she was comfortable and involved in the community activities despite her limited mobility. We were concerned about moving her to a nursing facility but it was really a wonderful experience. read more

My mother stayed here after an illness recently. They barely did therapy with her, she'd ask for a drink and they'd never come back, she needed help and would wait hours for someone to check on her. The food was not edible. We had to bring her food. Ended up taking her home to take care of her ourselves. Do not recommend. read more

My cousin was recently at this facility for a short term rehab. I feel the quality was excellent and the entire staff was quite responsive to his special needs. The food was also quite good compared to what you might expect. From start to finish they met all of his needs. Very satisfied. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I went to go visit my dad who has congestive heart failure, kidney failure and was in there because he had a broken leg as well. He needs a healthy diet and the food that they fed him was horrendous. I was there when he received lunch the first day, he needs a high protein diet. There was one tiny chicken wing. ONE! Some unappetizing squash and undercooked rice. He said that every meal after that got worse and worse. He was there less than two days and had to be rushed back to the emergency room because they didn't check on him. They did not give him his medication, and he went into a diabetic shock. He was unresponsive by the time they had checked on him hours later. They never called me. I am his emergency contact. I know that they had my contact information. I was worried the next day when I did not hear from him so I called the front desk and they explained that they had to send him to the emergency room yesterday, I said, how can you let a day go by without calling me and they lied to me, said my phone was out of service which it never is. Please do not send your loved one here the care is HORRIBLE!! read more

Great place, great people. The dedicated nurses and the fantastic team of therapists. The Courtyard is a great place.

I wish I could offer a positive review of this place but I can't. I have a dear old friend at Courtyard but live at quite a distance so I don't get into Boston area often. It is run down to the appearance of looking dirty, the location doesn't allow residents to walk outside anywhere but a paved parking lot. I'm sure the employees try but honestly it has to be depressing working there - many residents, few employees, no time to become personally involved. As an elderly person myself it is my nightmare to have to die in a place like this. read more

Rundown and shabby inside. Garbage in the bushes outside. Purely custodial care for your loved one. Worthless activities offered infrequently. The food is bad. The place is noisy. Want more? The Director thinks women are stupid!! !Told him to email me when he had the answer to a question I asked regarding my loved one. Told me he doesn't use enail because it lacks that personal touch! What??? What business doesn't use email today. OK Buddy, you don't use email because it is harder to reach you and hold you accountable for what you should be! read more

This is not my first rodeo. I have been in and out of rehab/skilled nursing facilities for years. First with my Dad who passed away in 2006 and now with my 92 year old mother who lives with me. Besides the Epoch skilled nursing facility that was on the Malden/Melrose line and is now closed down, this is by far the worst place I have had the unfortunate circumstances of dealing with. DON'T GO BY THE PICTURES!! The place is not nice. My Mom was in there following a hospital visit to be treated with Physical Therapy and to get stronger. She arrived on a Friday afternoon and was not even evaluated until Sunday (which is when I pulled a tantrum). I arrived both Saturday and Sunday early afternoon to find my Mom still in her pajamas telling me that nobody had offered her any assistance in dressing or morning hygiene. Also, they had put a diaper on her Friday night (my Mom is continent) so they would not have to assist her to the bathroom during the night (I freaked out on them). PT never came, so I dressed her and took her walking. Finally on Monday PT came once per day. Besides that, the only other time she was assisted in walking was when I arrived later in the afternoon. Meanwhile, every time I walked in, the lazy aides were doing nothing but sitting on their butts. My Mom told me she asked the woman who delivered her food tray if she would assist her in "scooching" up on the bed, and she said "No. Do it yourself". I complained to the Director of Nursing on Monday, but you know how that goes...) " Well that is the weekend staff "... etc. There should be no difference in care between the weekends and weekdays. I don't think that they get paid less on the weekends from the Medicare/Medicaid or private insurance, do you???? Finally, I had had enough of the lies, lack of care, dingy bedroom, and told them I wanted my Mother discharged on Friday as she could get better care sitting at home alone (even though she isn't home alone). They told me that they advised against it. Of course they did... the money would stop. My advise to you.... Don't use this facility!! read more

My Mom is 88 with severe Dementia. She has been through quite a lot this past year. She had been living on her own until September 2018. Long story short...after a few weeks in the hospital & at another rehab location, she is now finally happy. Everyone there always makes her feel like she is the most important person & that makes her smile like I haven't seen in a very long time. Each time I visit, the hallways & her room are very clean. The staff is pleasant despite the difficult tasks they perform each day. I live over an hour away & I truly could not imagine leaving her anyplace else. I would highly recommend The Courtyard!!! read more

My husband has been in rehab twice in the past few years and has gotten good care at The Courtyard Nursing Center. The therapy is consistent, activities plentiful, the food ,s not bad and the outside courtyard is beautiful for all to enjoy. The staff work very hard. My husband has been shown love and compassion by many. He considers some his friends. People have to make their own decisions but they have served us well. read more

Where do I start? First, my father was sent to this facility for rehab in August for a broken hip, and seemed to do ok. Now I'm realizing that he was doing ok because he was still pretty self sufficient and could speak up for himself. He was sent back after a hospital stay in November, and was treated like he was nothing more than a burden to the staff. When he was sent to Courtyard from the hospital, he was barely able to speak and could no longer use his hands. The aides would come into his room and drop his meal tray three times a day and walk out. They were serving him a regular diet. THE MAN HAD NO TEETH and was unable to feed himself, yet no one questioned why days were going by and all he was taking was a couple of sips of water, they just kept dropping the tray three times a day and taking it away at the next meal. He had no call button to alert anyone that he needed to use a bed pan, and when we were visiting him and he would tell us that he needed to go to the bathroom, we would have to go out to the nurses station several times to ask for help. It got to the point more than once that my dad was laying in his own feces and urine for up to 25 minutes at a time because they "couldn't find anyone to come clean him up." So, they let my dad sit in that because, God forbid, a nurse should do it when no one else is there to help. When I asked about someone helping my dad to eat, I was told by a nurse that it "wasn't their job." When I finally was able to get someone to feed him, they were piling food into his mouth and feeding him so fast he was gagging and gasping for air. When I told the nurse she was feeding him too fast and asked her to slow down, she argued with me. Family members and friends who were visiting him also voiced concerns to me that I brought to the attention of the social worker. He brought one of the charge nurses in to speak with me and she told me that she "strongly encouraged" me to look at other facilities for my dad if I was not happy with his care because she was "100% confident" that they were providing him the best care they could. Now, an autographed shirt that was given to my dad by a former hockey player has "mysteriously disappeared" and the director was less than helpful in finding it and even less pleasant when speaking with me over the phone regarding all of this. He claims he was unaware of all of the prior issues and that I should have sought him out when I wasn't happy with the progress that the social worker was making regarding my complaints. This director is arrogant and has no place running a nursing center. I would have definitely gone over everyones heads if I'd had the opportunity to do so, but unfortunately my dad passed away before I was able to rectify any of these issues for him. I started the grievance process through CHA before my dads death, and I will follow through on that complaint if they'll allow me to. If not, I'll seek other avenues. I don't want any of this happening to anyone else, and because of the cold manner in which I was treated by the director, my determination has quadrupled. read more

It is my belief a deliberate effort is being made at this facility (and perhaps others owned by Genesis elsewhere) to deny patients their right to mobility and independence by keeping them confined to a bed or wheelchair. By virtue of such confinement, the patient(s) must also wear a diaper when they are perfectly capable of using the bathroom themselves. No one can wait the 30 or 40 minutes it takes someone to answer a call light. Courtyard appears to be very short staffed -- especially on weekends where it borders on chaotic at times. It is much easier to keep patients in wheelchairs, beds and diapers than provide adequate staff to supervise a mobile elderly population. Something they have every right to be by the way. The director does not seem to know running a nursing home is a serious business not just schmoozing with old ladies to get on their good side. He appears unaware there is a second floor where he is rarely seen, and there needs to be a lot more staff supervision. Although there are some hardworking CNA's, many are not. They do not engage the residents in conversation or activity but prefer to banter back and forth in front of them in their native languages with other workers. At times, curtains are not fully drawn around beds and bathroom doors completely closed when assisting patients. The floors and lower walls of the patient bathrooms need a good scrubbing too. The food is terrible, and I have sampled it. The chicken and biscuit was mostly biscuit and a really tough (old?) piece of chicken. The "boneless" pork chop was actually some type of processed pork loaf and tough. The hamburger lasagna tasted like a filler had been added to the meat in effort to stretch it. When you are adding bread crumbs to hamburger, tuna fish or whatever, you know things are pretty bad. If they are lying about the food, they are lying about other things as well. By the way if you go here for rehab, unlike other places, you won't have your own room. And you won't get much rest either. The floor is very noisy. Like the other reviewer, I am angry at the hospital that referred my loved one to Courtyard and plan to inform them of our experiences, in order to avoid recrimination, once they are no longer a resident. read more
