This place was a joke. I saw it on line and was impressed with the balcony and views, as well as the room. They failed to photograph the empty has been closet that was equip with a plug in space heater and a plug in fan because there is no air. The amazing view was that of the garbage cans and parking lot, the balcony was nonexistent, and we were Freezing all night then woken up by sirens and the garbage truck taking the garbage. When we walked outside the the hotel there were people shamelessly smoking crack and shootings up heroine!!! All of this with the robust scent of pee! I would never come here again or recommend it. Bad neighborhood and freezing cold! And don't get me started on the "valet parking" what a Joke. read more

I booked this hotel in 2020 for a three night stay. After the trip was canceled due to covid, I corresponded with management to try to rebook for a later date so that we wouldn't loose our $600 prepaid booking. I got the complete run around, and eventually gave up. Unfortunately, I had booked without insurance so I was just out my $600 without any recourse. I get it. 2020 was a train wreck but we finally did get to SF last weekend and we would have stayed at Cova if they had honored our booking. They lost out on guests that are considerate, big tippers and often repeat stays in places we love. Don't stay here. Book somewhere the hotel management will communicate with quests. There are plenty of great places to stay in SF for the same cost. read more

My stay this past weekend was fabulous! To begin with, i booked through a third-party website and the price was extremely fair and to be honest, we should have paid more than we actually did! we called for an earlier check-in, and to our surprise they were able to accommodate it. the concierge by the name of Bryan that first greeted us truly set the tone for an amazing stay. you could tell he sincerely enjoys his job and is great at customer service! the room was clean and spacious (double queen).. beds and pillows were comfortable... room included a mini stereo with awesome range.. the view was great.. and the bathroom the perfect size. THEY EVEN OFFER COMPLEMENTARY WINE EVERY NIGHT inside their very chic top-floor lounge. and the bartenders had awesome personalities! The hotel truly exceeded my expectations. I stayed for a week from March 3-9. The room itself was decent and the staff were friendly. It was the least expensive option for hotels that were in the conference block. I wanted to stay closer so I didn't pay a fortune in Uber/Lyft rides like I did last time. PROS: Close to Moscone Center Hotel and room were clean Staff was friendly Close to some really good restaurants CONS: Neighborhood-there are several shelters in the area so there are a lot of homeless people around Lamps had loose switches and it could be difficult to get them to turn on. They should probably be replaced as the loose switches could be a fire hazard. My room got cold. There was a switch to manually turn the heat on. I had to turn it off at night as it was too loud so I was cold the majority of the time I was there. read more

Staying here isn't bad (completely) but it isn't good. When Priceline booked me here i would of think cova would work hard to provide a great Hotel experience for such an awful location. That wasn't my experience The shuttles - not that friendly. They only go to certain locations randomly at assigned time. If you don't call ahead (and no one goes) they cancel it. So you have to plan exactly 30-40 minutes in advance or your out of luck The room- was an okay room but scratched up furniture (maybe cheap ikea) didn't leave me impressed. Was hot from lack of A/C. Sure it's San Fran but do you like hearing the sounds of the Tenderloin at night ? Breakfast - if a boiled egg, some ham, and random pastries are your thing - you are good to go. Otherwise not much of a breakfast. Happy Hour was decent - but almost no one was there. Complimentary wines and over priced mixed drinks. Location - really sucked. We've stayed here a couple of times. For the price, you get a good night sleep in a clean and spacious room. However here's the downside, over the years the homelessness has gotten worse in SF just as it has in LA, this is especially evident in the Tenderloin district where Cova is located. One can witness the marginalized population all throughout Ellis street, active drug users and people peeing on the sidewalk. I don't recommend anyone walking at night alone in this neighborhood. Other couple of things to note, the hotel rooms don't have AC. For hotter days, we had the portable fan on the entire night. Also they no longer accept yelp checkin to get a complimentary snack tray. Lastly, the breakfast in the morning only consists of cold items, like deli meats n cheeses, fruits, boils eggs, and some bread and pastries. read more

Stayed at the Cova Hotel for two nights with some of my best friends for my birthday! We got two rooms and the hotel worked hard to make sure we were next to each other and on the same floor. They were really friendly and accommodating to my guests and I! The hotel has a super cute rooftop with lights and a semi good view of the city. The breakfast is also very simple but enough. It was a sit down restaurant style buffet, but you could take things back to your room or eat outside! Valet was very easy and the staff there was very efficient and professional! They're a different company aside from Cova Hotel. We had one car for two nights and paid roughly ~50. It gets more expensive if you go in and out so I would recommend Ubering to places and back (SF is hard to find parking anyway). The hotel has a shuttle service but we didn't use it. Although the area (tenderloin) isn't the best, we Ubered to all the places we wanted to go and we felt safe in the hotel! They require you to swipe your room card to enter the lobby after 11pm and you have to swipe your room card to use the elevators. Overall it was a great experience for my birthday and I couldn't have it any other way! read more

It's manageable to walk around the area because the streets are safer and nicer a couple streets over. They also have free shuttles that take you to the main parts of the city! The inside of the hotel and the rooftop definitely make up for the bad area. The rooms were really nice and modern. The rooftop was cute with little hanging lights. The complementary breakfast was better than most and the view from the dining room on the 8th floor was amazing. Extremely disappointing, haven't been back to sf for almost 10 years and my first day back was not off to a good start and probably one of the Worst experience thanks to this hotel and here's why. They decided to move me to another hotel location Without letting me know ahead of time about the situation. I booked a taxi from the airport to this location and had to wait for another taxi to go to another hotel because their room was having some flooding issues. So instead of assign me a different room since I'll be staying for 2 days, they decided to send me to BEI hotel. I later found out that Breakfast was NOT included at BEI Hotel even thou I have already Paid for breakfast in my original Reservation. and on top of that, I was informed that they ONLY able to accommodate me for 1 night at BEI Hotel therefore I must check out tmr morning and take a Taxi to go back to Cova hotel to check in again for my second reservation which they may or may not have the room for me? Are you serious? I have travel to a lot places and stay in many hotels before but this is Literally the Worst and messiest experience I have ever encountered make me question the management..Every single questions I asked them is replied with "don't know sir", if you work here and you don't know? I love this hotel. I have family that love it too and want to bring their friends and make reservations for a month! Hopefully they open soon. My friend met her husband while they were both staying at Cova for business so it means a lot to them to visit every few years. I understand this pandemic is making it hard for businesses and everything. I see on your website that you are open but no reservations at this time. Is there any way to get a reservation or an approximate date that reservations will be made available? Seems like everyone on yelp are a bunch of babies. The tenderloin is no different than DOWNTOWN LA or NYC. I grew up in Elizabeth,NJ so I seen my share of rough areas. Rest to sure it can look and feel intimidating but walk and don't stare or stop when something happens. THE HOTEL IS AMAZING!!! The staff accommodated any request I had. Every time I passed the staff they smiled or said Good morning. THE VIEW You must go to the roof enjoy the views THE ROOM super clean, comfortable bed, a desk and clean restroom. Sheets were clean no bed bugs or hair or even stains. I feel I got the most bang for my buck. LOCATION everyone is a big baby clowning on this hotel. Especially all the people who made even myself worried. THE BREAKFAST worth it but go early otherwise most of the good stuff is gone. It's fully stocked eggs, fruit, waffles the works. My stay was satisfying. The staff were courteous and very helpful. The room were clean and spacious and the stay was absolutely a joy. There are some homeless on the nearby streets but the hotel is safe. They also offer complimentary breakfast which is well sorted with food. They allow eat in or take out which is great in case you just want to go back to your room. The only drawback is the parking handled by a third party company. They were not to pleasant to deal with. I only regret that I was not able to visit the bar and terrace which I hear is fantastic. read more

This hotel is located in the tenderloin district. In the lobby, they have posted routes of areas to avoid which are basically all around the hotel. Most people would not feel comfortable walking anywhere from this hotel. I booked it because it was close to the Moscone Center and figured I could walk it. I travel, I've been to NYC and Chicago, I've been to San Francisco several times. I've never seen a place quite like this... Upon arrival, the valet driver was yelling for me to move my car but offering no direction as to where it should go... seeming irritated that I wouldn't know how to navigate the tiniest parking garage I've ever parked. I walk in on a Thursday evening to be promptly ignored by the front desk people for no less than 5 minutes while they all discussed "the ac guy being there and who's responsible for dealing with it". I finally get checked in, 5th floor, room was ok, clean... but no AC. No unit. Only a floor fan. I opened the "balcony" to get some crisp city air in and eventually got the room comfortable. Also, when I called to book the shuttle to moscone center I was told that it wasn't available because there was not driver. So I ended up with an extra $60 in Lyft charges bc of no shuttle plus $32 to park my rental. $60 was cheaper than getting the car out and driving it to moscone and paying to park so that's what I had to do :/ As I waited for my Lyft Saturday morning, I saw a guy shooting up in front of the hotel. Like out in the open, facing the street, arm laid out, multiple attempts. Lots of people screaming at each other. A guy screaming at himself. A guy use a 5 gallon bucket as his toilet (better than the side walk). The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because the terrace on the 8th floor is nice. I'd recommend ordering food and having it delivered there so you don't have to leave the building. Upon my exit, Saturday, the front desk guy was very helpful and nice. So if you're not scared of some real life big city issues... 2 ! I felt it was important to write this review bc it was a shocking situation. Okay, it is in the Tenderloin! Yes, there are prostitutes out there at night. Yup, there will be homeless people all around you. Yes, the streets smell like pee! I know, I am doing a great job of selling this place. But, how much time are you going to spend around there? Not much. You are going to be out and about the city all day and you won't even remember pete the hobo by the time you get back. Plus, you need a hotel to sleep in, not to hang around during the day. So, if you are on a budget, this isn't really that bad. The neighborhood is shady, but the hotel is actually pretty nice. The staff is super friendly - they open doors for you, they say hi to you when you come down for the day. The breakfast is nothing special, but it helps if you want to go out and start the day with sight seeing.They have your basics - granola, cereal, DIY waffles, cut up melon, canned apricots, and toast. They also have sliced cucumbers and tomatoes. The kitchen staff is nice and they will clean up after you are done. If you can, leave a tip. The room was great! I really liked it. We got lucky and got upgraded to a room with two queen beds for two people (although she said the superior king room is the same size). But we were put on the 6th floor, away from a lot of the noise. So, if you are worried about noise, ask for an upper floor. The room was clean, although the rug was a little worn. the pillows were fluffier than a cloud of marshmallows (but not edible). The bed was cushiony and the sheets were bright white. The bathroom was clean and big. I didn't like the sink, it wasn't very ergonomic, but eh, it sufficed. I liked the bamboo design though. The ironing board was unfortunately, very worn and lopsided =(. Just put a towel over it if you want to use it. Overall, just don't walk down Hyde street, larkin is safer. My 1st review in 3 years...either a really good thing or a really bad thing. Sadly, it's the latter. HOTEL: They have an in-house parking area, yet they will charge you $30-40/day to park there whether you're a guest or not. Very odd and a first for me but I thought, it is San Francisco and parking is never free and hard to find. So, I reluctantly handed over my $30 for the overnight parking and went on my way. Along the lines of other reviewers here, the neighborhood here is really bad. Just a few steps out the front of the building and you'll see why. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Just a few minutes into our stay at Cova Hotel and I already had a bad feeling about our stay here. Instance #1: While checking in, I noticed that we only received 2 stubs for the complimentary breakfast yet I had registered for 4 guests. When I inquired about it, the front desk employee replied back in a snarky manner explaining to me that my reservation was only for 1 person. I showed her my reservation for 4 adults. She offered no apology as she just continued along processing our stay and handed us our key card claiming she didn't see that part of the reservation in her computer. But never an apology. Instance #2: The thermostat in our room, or floor per se, is centralized. A first I've seen in countless stays in hotels all over the world. We walk into our room after a day of touring around SF and we were greeted with a toasty room at around 70-80 degrees. It's January and pretty cold in SF, but not THAT cold. I go downstairs to inquire about it and the front desk guy nonchalantly explains that there's nothing he can do to help us since the maintenance people are out and that he can send an email. Yet, he also goes on to say that they might not be able to help. GEE, thanks a lot! So now, we're sitting here in the room with our balcony door wide open to combat the full blast heater that's radiating in our room. Just how I pictured our night here in SF. CONCLUSION: Cova Hotel is one of those places that looks good on the outside but is just a nightmare. Save your money and go somewhere else, or spend more and stay away from trying to save a few dollars by staying here. You'll probably ending up spending more with the extra costs and headaches you'll encounter here. This hotel definitely deserves to be 4 stars solid. Looks like the hotel was recently renovated...the lobby, rooms and fitness center was in pretty good condition. The hotel staff including the valets were attentive and friendly. They offer free continental breakfast, wi-fi and shuttle service to major locations (ie. Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square). With all the positives - you must wonder why the 3 stars? It's the location. The hotel is situated in Tenderloin - which we weren't aware was known as a shadiest neighborhood in San Francisco. While it's bearable in daylight...at night it is a total different story. Definitely, do not recommend walking in the neighborhood. Best to take cab or drive car to front door. read more

We stayed here for 2 nights and on the inside, the fitness room and free breakfast, shuttle rides and wifi were all great bonuses. Service is fast, warm and friendly. We couldn't have asked for more in this price range. Now for the but....please please please keep in mind that this hotel is located in the Tenderloin area and we learned it the hard way. If you plan on booking this hotel, I would travel in and out of the hotel strictly by car only. This neighborhood has a long way to go before it should welcome tourists. I booked a room for some friends that were visiting us up in the city. (They had a deal online!! The sf marathon was this weekend so pickings were slim) The (evening) front desk older, asian lady was super sweet and accommodating. Just beware of the weekday front desk manager. She was pretty rude. She was snappy..not just to my friends but to the tourists staying there who had language barriers. You would think working in hospitality, she'd expect tourists. The rooms and decor was modern and very European. They offer complimentary continental breakfast but we're in SF where i had other brunch plans for my friends. But complimentary is always a plus! This hotel IS in the t.l. so it's not much of a view or a nice neighborhood..but the people are harmless and it's not a far walk from the surrounding districts. Just stayed this past weekend. I really enjoyed our stay at the Cova. Despite the few blocks that surround the hotel vicinity with a homeless population it was safe. Don't let the rural appearance scare you. The staff was excellent especially Lawrence, he was such a huge help, he even arranged for a car company to pick us and drop us off at the airport for a small fee. Great pizza place a block away. Was able to walk to Civic Center & Union square. The free breakfast was not bad either, worth it! I recommend the hotel to stay, looking to visiting again soon. Con: low water pressure in shower & a bit rural outside hotel premises but worth the experience. read more

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. On one hand the rooms are very reasonable and the staff can be very friendly, however I had a few very bad experiences during my short stay here. I checked in on Friday afternoon with a extremely indifferent front desk lady who barely spoke two words other than my room wouldn't be available until after 3 pm. Ok fine, I can deal with that so I order a cab to get the hell out of the Tenderloin. After 20 minutes of waiting I found out from the same woman that someone else took my cab. Lovely. When I finally got to settle into the room, I noticed the wall is all kinds of jacked up with scuff marks and chipped paint. Not very appealing and upon closer inspection, I found some heinous looking mold all along the carpet near our sliding window/door. Also, the closet was as tiny as it gets so don't expect there to be space to hang anything in there. Free wifi was a plus, but it's very very slow. That being said, the room is fairly big by SF standards and the bed was wonderful. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good night's sleep thanks to the incompetence of the staff waking me up at 5:30 am for a shuttle I never ordered not once, but TWICE during my 2 night stay. I complained to the manager on duty, but was met with total indifference saying "oops, but it's not our fault, sorry." Wtf? I'm a very light sleeper so this put my in the foulest of moods during what's supposed to be my vacation. Other than the poorly trained hotel staff and mangled up rooms, I found their breakfast and the view from the top floor quite good, however I won't be returning to the Cova anytime soon. We stayed for 4 nights at COVA and were happy with our Hotwire deal. COVA really lies somewhere between 3 and 4 stars and could easily be a 4 star hotel, if only for some minor tweaks. The staff at the front desk is courteous and welcoming, as is the group that works in the parking area for the hotel. Despite the "I just burped in your face" looks I received from friends familiar with the Tenderloin District, after I informed them where we were staying, there is absolutely nothing to be fearful of when roaming the streets nearby the COVA at any time of night. The room was comfortable and modern, as was the bathroom. The free WiFi is a huge plus, especially in a major city where every perk seems to come in the form of an additional cost. Yes, they don't have A/C, but we were there in November of 2014, so none was needed. The only issue I had with our room was that the carpet was really dirty and the off white color of the carpet could not hide the fact that it hadn't been professionally cleaned in a while. The Continental breakfast is much better than how it's described. It's offered at the restaurant adjacent to the hotel and includes your choice of several hot options, including eggs, sausage, potatoes and fruit. You'll be hard pressed to find a better traditional breakfast option, so save yourself the time and try breakfast at the hotel. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend that others do the same. Your within a 10 minute walk to Union Sqaure and right around the corner from a strip club! *Tip 1* Go up to the rooftop area at night for some great views of the city. I wish they had a bar up there with some music and a fire pit (Suggestion, COVA!!!) **Tip 2** Walk to and from Union Square at night. The people in the Tenderloin are nice and the people watching is fun. ***Tip 3*** A guy runs a t shirt and hat shop on the corner of Larkin. His clothing line consists of some fun stuff and he's nice to talk to. read more

I LOVE this affordable hotel. Great for a short stay in SF. Thanks to Yelp I knew it would be in the Tenderloin and what to expect..but I wasn't planning on taking a walk by myself (or walking too much in general) so I was OK. The reviews were pretty accurate. Crack heads were everywhere ALL the time. Despite that, you feel safe, BC you can't ride the elevator up to your room unless you have a key card and at a certain time the doors lock and you can't get inside the hotel without your key card. I drove down, so of course there was a parking fee of $25 a day. Cheaper than most places and worth it. The parking guy watched over the cars and made sure people were safe. The hotel itself was super clean. Flat screen TVs...totally renovated and looked upscale from the inside. Rooms were spacious too! You would have never known you were in the middle of the ghetto inside the hotel. This place is pet friendly, but it will cost you an extra $75. The most I've ever paid for my dog. I don't recommend bringing an animal to SF anyways. SF is a complete concrete Jungle. Finding grass twice a day was ridiculous, but this was a business trip and I didn't have a place to leave my puppy-dog so I was forced to bring him with me. In the morning they had breakfast of the 8th floor. Nothing extravagant, but good if you're on the go. ONE waffle machine...so the line for that was long. I wasn't that desperate for a waffle so I grabbed some fruit and cereal and went on my merry way. All in all, I had a good experience. The Cova, with it's wonderful rooftop views is located in the Tenderloin. As many have mentioned it's one of San Francisco's last affordable neighborhoods that hasn't been gentrified and/or sanitized and therefore you will likely see homeless people sleeping on the streets, covered by a thick blanket. I realize this would reasonably off-put people and for that reason, I understand why they would give a 3 or 2 star rating, but that's rating the neighborhood rather than the hotel Yeah the neighborhood is dirty, its real, it's life, and they do not sell souvenir postcards of Tenderloin in any SF gift shop. And......I actually enjoyed staying here. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable with stylish modern decor. It's insanely affordable. Also the staff at the Cova was on top of their game, while we were there. Extremely fast, efficient, super-professional. The hotel itself is set back from the curb, so it's quite safe to have a taxi, shuttle, Uber come pick you up. read more

So when we booked the place, we were under the impression it was in Japantown. It's actually in Tenderloin. When I was in transit in SF a while back, I did the bus tour and the driver told everyone to stay clear of this area, especially at night - so had that thought in mind once I realized where we were. So anyway, we got here by train from the airport and it was around a 10minute walk through some unpleasant streets and dodgy looking people and there's just faeces everywhere you walk - we actually weren't sure if they belonged to dogs or people and it was scattered all along the footpath, just gross! So finally got to the hotel, we were early but they had a room available which was great. Reception was nice and she told us which streets to avoid and provided a map as well as the breakfast cards. We didn't have a car but there is parking, although a bit expensive. There's also a free shuttle service which we didn't end up using, travelled around with uber or walking, but mostly uber. So the room is a bit dim and there was no AC or heating, but heaters and fans were available in the room. There's complimentary breakfast which isn't too bad really compared to some other complimentary breakfasts. Eggs, yoghurt, fruit, muffins, cereals, pastries, coffee & juice - it's not continental but this isn't a 5 star so don't expect that level! It's served on the 8th floor so it's nice to look out at the view of the city. Only thing is it does get quite busy and can be hard to get a table, depending what time in the morning you show up. In the evenings there's free wine from 5-7PM which was great - it's student quality wine, again don't expect too much especially when it's free. One thing, the water in the shower is really cold, it takes a while to heat up and when it does it's not hot at all and it doesn't last long and the pressure is really low - also the weather was quite cold when we visited too so this was a definite downer. Other than that the room was clean and the staff are friendly. I also liked that the hotel was so close to what is now a definite favourite restaurant - Lers Ros, it's 5 mins walk away which is great. The location is quite central, but not sure that I'd stay here again. But if you're on a budget then this is a decent enough place and quite reasonable given how late we booked - the week before! Cova is a great hotel! Bryan checked us in with enthusiasm and ready to answer any questions we had. We stayed in the suite and it gave us plenty of room to feel at home. LOVE the French patio doors that open which gives you plenty of fresh air! I would have to say the the best part, their rooftop! Views and lots of space to kick back. Their complimentary breakfast was always what we needed in the morning. Plenty of options. I see many comments on location and yes, there is homelessness but the people do not bother you. But as far as location it's within walking distance to Union Square which we did a couple of times. We enjoyed our visit and I would stay at The Cova again when I'm back in the city! Whatever you do - DO NOT order room service!!!!!! We were completely robbed !!! BUYER BEWARE!!! We ordered food to our room and paid over $50. It was delivered in a bag so I did not see all the contents at first. We paid and left a fat tip only to find that we were missing two items we ordered. The food they did actually deliver was wet and leaking and not fully cooked. We threw it right in the trash. We called room service back to complain that we were overcharged as they did not even deliver our entire order. They basically gave us the run-around to "call back tomorrow." Long story short, we called back about 6 times, spoke to 4 different people and was hung up on once. We never got our money back or any type of reconciliation... straight up robbed. Aside from room service, area is not the safest but as long as you don't walk/ wander around, you will be okay. Free breakfast each morning was a huge plus... probably the best thing about our short stay. Food wasn't great, but decent. Parking garage is kind of a scam as they make up new prices each time you ask. The rooftop view was gorgeous but the bar was never open while we were there. TV did not have any decent channels and we did not have a working remote. The hotel gave us new batteries but there was still nothing to watch on TV. Cleanliness of room was decent. Overall, I would not return to stay again as the room service situation left a bad taste in my mouth. It was upsetting how they handled it - or lack of. read more

We enjoyed our first trip to the Bay area recently to see Dave Mathews with Tim Reynolds in Oakland. The hotel is conveniently located near major attractions and not far from both Wine Country and the Paramount Theater in Oakland. The problem is that to walk anywhere one must endure panhandlers and hookers on streets that reek of urine...... Not the hotel's fault; however, greater care could be taken to make guests fully aware of the shuttle and other options. The parking garage charges $27 for an "oversized vehicle" (we had rented a small Nissan SUV). It is "staffed" by an attendant who is rude and never in his kiosk...... Plan on an additional 10 to 15 minutes on any trip to retrieve your vehicle and expect the hassle of paying each trip rather than just at checkout. We did not use the complimentary continental breakfast because I was not aware of it until I was writing this review and saw it on some other reviews. The same is true for the roof top lounge...... Another win for the staff. The room was small overlooking the parking garage and a brick wall. The carpet was full of stains and cringe worthy of a hotel that was listed as 3 star on Priceline. The patio is no more than wide enough to set your shoes out to dry if you see the ocean. (Muir Woods and Muir Beach are both uncongested and amazing.) We also were required to pay another $15 per night because our daughter stayed with us. I am not sure what she did to inconvenience the hotel that much other than sleep in one of the two beds we supposedly would have had full access to had she not been there. If I had the trip to redo, I would have found a B and B near Napa or Sonoma and made the short commute here for the sites.... Especially since parking would have been the same. Stay up there, be refreshed, avoid the hassle..... This three star hotel has not earned our repeat business. It is in reality no more than a 1 1/2 or 2 star hotel as there is no distinction between it and a Super 8 or Howard Johnson other than being downtown. UPDATE: we searched our things and found the comp tickets in the packet from check in...... Again, a little communication would have gone a long ways; however, the breakfast was delicious. This review is solely on the hotel itself. San Francisco (like any CA metropolitan city) has a large homeless population but the hotel should not be knocked for that. I stayed here 4 nights and enjoyed my stay. The staff were friendly and attentive. The shuttle service was a definite plus too. The civic center and Asian art museum was just a quick walk around the corner. Our room was clean and modern with most amenities that were needed. The only reason for a 4 star rating is that there is no AC in the rooms. We were good with just using the fans and leaving the sliding doors open to the breeze. But, if temperatures were hotter, it would've been an issue. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to stay in the city. read more

It was a clean hotel inside but I did not feel that the hotel was in the safest of neighborhoods. Otherwise the hotel itself was nice and I had no issues with amenities and the staff. In front of the checkout desk they has an area where you can take selfies with props that are provided and the photos can be emailed to you. I thought that was a nice touch. Because of the large homeless population and degree of drug a use in the area, they have a sharps disposal box in the bathroom behind the checkout desk. You must ask for a passcode to get into that bathroom. I found all of this strange as I do not come from a place where these issues are rampant. read more

Stayed here while in San Francisco. Yes, the rooms have no AC but nights in SF are cold and if you ask nicely they will send you extra fans. The room is a good size and they have double beds not queen sized beds. They do offer free shuttle rides to union square, fisherman's wharf their shuttle is big and comfortable but you have to reserve at the latest 30 minutes before the shuttle time it fills up quickly. Your room stay includes a nice continental breakfast: boiled eggs, ham, cheese, muffins, cereal, muffins, coffee and juice. And if you are into wine they have a great rooftop bar with free wine from 5p-7p for hotel guests. As for the surrounding area I would not walk around at night use lyft or Uber. Great hotel, helpful staff. Very clean and friendly staff. Pamela in the breakfast area was very sweet and accommodating. The hotel is well decorated lots of attention to detail. I really liked the decor. the front desk and shuttle drivers we so friendly and accommodating. The hotel and the owner and the people working it cannot do anything about the homeless people outside. It doesn't matter if you stay at the ritz Carlton that's just what is going on in this city and this time in history. It's politics. The hotel it a great hotel. The shuttle bus was very convenient to spots like fisherman's warf and China town and union square. read more

Went to my mom's Mrs Vietnam Pageant SF Coronation dinner party and a show event here. They booked out a party room that was located upstairs by the patio outside. It could fit approximately 100 people inside the room. The hotel is nice upon walking into the front lobby and well decorated to look somewhat modern. read more

Got checked in and tried to use the free snack offer. Guy at the front desk said he didn't know what I was talking about. Got 2 uncomfortable full beds, not much parking and better clear out your car if you don't want the window busted. There was hair on one of our beds and when I tried to call the front desk for fresh sheets no one answered. "Free breakfast" was frozen fruit and a vanilla cupcake with no frosting. Offer free continental breakfast daily good quantity and fresh coffee the only thing missing is microwaves in the rooms and better cable service and some AC please Other than that hospitality was great !!! Our stay here was great! the room was clean, spacious, and had a nice view. The area was no where near as bad as people made it out to be. The location was perfect, and there were several good spots to eat within walking distance. the free breakfast was fine for free (boiled eggs, toast, pastries, oatmeal, coffee, juice). The hotel offers a ton of little perks (snacks with check in, free wine tasting, minibar, free shuttles to central locations, you can leave your baggage after you check out, etc). The staff was incredibly nice and helpful!! we were all very happy with our stay, and will definitely be staying again! read more

Was able to stay here for 2 nights a few months ago. It's actually in an OK part of SF. You'd definitely be able to walk to a lot of places. The hotel looks pretty great but I have to take a star off for the room. It was small and either too hot or cold even when we adjusted the thermostat. Bathroom is a decent size though. Staff was okay. Went and visited the rooftop to see what the hubbub was all about and it actually offers a decent view of the city. They do charge for parking per day just FYI. There is a lot of homeless folks around the hotel's surrounding area if that's something that bothers you. They do however offer a free shuttle to several points of interests in the city. I would definitely take advantage of that if you decide to stay here. They also offer free breakfast =) read more

Customer Service: we were greeted by an older African American women who was VERY rude. I had general questions because I am in the hospitality industry myself and travel a lot. She basically stopped at one point to tell me, "she would get there". However, "TARA" was absolutely the best. Has strong communication skills and was very kind. Room: We were told at check in that there was no AC with out any explanation or upgrade, nothing. Again going back to the initial check in she was very rude. It was a nice room, double bed perfect for two but really HOT. Surrounding area is really bad makes you not want to come back to SF at all. So many homeless and it smells like urine everywhere. It was low in price however pay a bit more for a better service, room, and location. Solely because of the initial greeting we got I will NEVER COME BACK. Tara should go work else where where she can get more credit for her kindness since everyone else agrees with the really bad Service by that women. read more

This would have been a cool hotel... if the staff wasn't so EFFING RUDE. The only nice person in the place was a parking attendant who helped us get to our room. Oh and parking is $40 for one night. Ridiculous. read more
