Visited with my friend in the afternoon, way past the lunch rush and because of that, the happy hour meal as up. Thanks to that, we both got a smash burger with rosemary fries for $10. I got a delicious Cosmic Crisp apple cider for $5 and a side Caesar for another $5. That was a surprisingly filling meal for a fair price. I've always wanted to try Cove and it wasn't as fancy as I expected but for a tavern it had nice high ceilings and the place wasn't too crowded. And back to that smash burger- wow! I think they had bacon jam or something but I added a little bbq sauce and that missing with the jam, the mayo, and the caramelized onions made that the best burger I've had in the three years I've lived in Olympia. So juicy! I am definitely coming back for more of that. Our waitress was friendly and fired out our food fast. They did everything right- great food, no attitude, and fast service so we could move on with our day. I'm gonna be coming back a lot because I think I'm in love with those burgers. read more

This was my first time at Cove, I was joined by a friend. I ordered the fish and chips. Big mistake, despite the fact of us living right here on The Sound. The fish was dry, overcooked and meager- I'll bet each piece weighed less than an ounce. The coleslaw arrived in a condiment cup. That's right- a little condiment cup. That is how much they give you. The two bites I had were pretty good... I had come in just as their happy hour was concluding, so I was able to take advantage of a discount cocktail. So I had one cocktail and I had the fish and chips. This came to $40 with tip. Shocking, considering how mediocre it was. I guess that never has to happen to me again. read more

Walked in on Christmas Eve morning to a pretty busy place. Not packed, but definitely more people than we had imagined. We were seated quickly. The Seahawks were playing, as well as several other games. It was pretty loud. The space is not decorated like a sports bar, nor is there really a sports bar vibe, but it was definitely feeling like one at the time. The Veuve themed Christmas tree was pretty though! It seemed like most of the staff were dressed in workout clothes, like yoga pants and halter tops...but for the most part they were nice, but seem relatively new to the business, or inexperienced. Sundays happen to be all day happy hour. They have a decent HH menu. I tried the vanilla pear drink, and it wasn't bad. The crispy refreshing taste from the pear puree was lovely without being overly sweet. My only complaint about the drink is all the ice. I opted for the Pesto Chicken sandwich off the HH menu (just the sandwich, $9) and a bowl of the clam chowder ($7). I did not care for the chicken sandwich because for the price, even on HH, it was pretty small and the pesto did not have a good flavor. It leaned more toward the acidic side as far as taste, with no depth or complexity. The chowder though, that was some good stuff. My friend opted for the cup of chowder and the one piece fish and chips. The fries are the battered kind, which isn't my, or my friend's favorite. The tartar sauce wasn't bad. They had mentioned that there was an "issue" with the fish and had to redo it, so it came out a little later than my food with a small amount of fries with the girl saying that she would bring out more because thats all they had when they plated the food. I would return to try other menu items. Wondering how much of the food is prepared from scratch though--because I have a feeling that not much of it is...would definitely make it better if it is something they would consider incorporating more of in the future. read more

They host live music so that would be fun to come to. We shared a some things between 3 of us. The happy hour tomato bisque was ok. Happy hour half pear & gorg salad was the favorite item. Cod was a bit tough and maybe over cooked on the fish and chips. The fries were delicious because of the seasoning and were cooked well. Brussels sprouts with kim chee and honey were cooked well. Tried some local beer by Matchless from Tumwater. Plenty of screens to watch the game. It was busy, clearly a popular spot, and good volume (not too loud or quiet). The lights are too bright in the evening. Overall nice spot and would go back again when I'm back in town. read more

One of our favorite bands was playing at the Cove so we decided to make the trek from over 30 miles away. Needless to say, when it was all said and done, we should have stayed home. We made reservations and arrived right on time. Our table was ready and we got seated within 5 minutes. We waited 20 minutes after being seated before our server even acknowledged us. We finally got our waters and immediately placed our order. It was another 30 minutes before our food arrived. During the time we were waiting on our food, our server never came back to see if we wanted to place another drink order. Food arrived. Smash burger was very good. No complaints and worth the $18.00. 2 people ordered the apple gorgonzola salad. Salads looked tempting, but unfortunately, they forgot the apples. Band started right on time. OMG...the acoustics were nothing short of HORRIBLE. Please, if you are going to host live music, then please take the time and effort to ensure your PA system is set up properly for the room to enjoy the music. No exaggeration, a ten dollar karaoke system from Best Buy would have sounded better. I have been to several venues in my time for live music and this by far was the worst I have ever experienced. Given that we had driven so far, we stuck it out for another 2 hours and during that time, the service did not get any better. Always had to wave down our server to place a drink order. There was even one instance after the drink order was placed, the drink never came but it did show up on the bill. We waved down the server to get our checks and discovered the mistakes getting charged for the items we never received. Server never came back to collect our credit cards, so we went to the bar to get the items removed from our bill that we should not have been charged for and paid. I honestly would have given them a one star rating, but the ambiance was nice and the seating was comfortable. However, given all the issues with the service and pathetic acoustics, there is a very high probability we won't be coming back. read more

We went to The Cove as a party of 9 on Saturday at noon. We were seeking a last minute brunch with a large group! We were able to get seated at the Cove within the first three minutes of arriving there. We loved the ambiance-they have some cool aquatic themed minimalist art. We were very comfortable in style. Their menu was huge, and we were all able to find excellent options. I ordered poke nachos to share with the table-these were fresh, crispy and oh so good. This was a generous serving size-this could easily feed 2-3 people. Their poke was fresh and top quality. This was my favorite of the foods. I ordered a Mistletoe Margarita-this was a great cocktail choice-it was sour, zingy, citrusy and well balanced. The only thing I would have changed was I would have preferred a salted, not a sugared rim. The sugar wasn't needed for this drink at all. I ordered an avocado toast for my main. I thought it was very good-the pine nuts, avocado, spicy Cove sauce, and grilled bread all went together so well. I do wish I had been given two slices of bread for the price that I paid. While the flavors on my toast were excellent, the portion size was too small for what I was paying. I know it was a small plate, but the poke nachos were also a small plate and the size was huge. I would definitely come back! I enjoyed my time here, and I wanted more. Apart from some tweaks, this place rocks! This is by far still my favorite restaurant in Olympia! The best service the best food the best atmosphere. It's just really fun. They have really delicious drinks. We visited the cove for dinner with friends. We entered hopeful for a good experience but left disappointed. The food was good; I enjoyed a chimichurri ribeye that I'd order again, if I were to return, and three at our table had the serviceable miso salmon. Must note that the salmon was over salted. Miso is naturally so, but this was salty beyond what one expects. We've grown accustomed to the fact that almost every restaurant we visit in the PNW cooks their salmon to well done and dry, and this salmon was no different--it's just part of the deal here. The restaurant has the ambience of a brew pub/sports bar. Fine, just not terribly different from dozens of such establishments in town. The service was inadequate. The wait staff seemed to intentionally ignore us to devote their attention to other tables...and the restaurant was not half-full. We repeatedly had to get up to find a waiter, even to fetch our own flatware, as dinner was served sans forks and knives. Even when we first arrived, we had an inordinate wait just to get in a drink order. This would have been a 4 star review, but the unprofessionalism of the wait staff means we won't return. Wow! The restaurant itself is very nicely set up and has a really good vibe. Our server Jason gave us the best service I have received in a long time. We were there for lunch on a Wednesday, arrived at about 11:50 and Jason told us happy hour starts at noon. He took our drink orders, I had to have the Strawberry Bliss Drop which was delicious and as a bonus was pretty. At noon Jason took our food orders so we'd get the Happy Hour price. I had a single patty smash burger on a really nice bun with a side of garlic rosemary fries. Everything was so good. The smash burger and fries was $10 and my delicious cocktail was $10 so I had a great meal with an excellent server and a comfy restaurant downtown for only $21.96 Of course I'll be back and recommend Cove to everyone looking for great food and drinks. read more

The food was solid. The rosemary garlic fries are delicious. I had a smash burger which was a little too pink for my taste. When I flagged one of the staff they had another burger made right away and brought some more fries out while it was being remade. The new burger was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The atmosphere was nice, it's a sports bar but it was not too loud. They discounted our bill for the inconvenience of having to wait for a new burger. I felt they took good care of us. This was an attractive spot with a nice menu. My husband had the buffalo chicken sandwich and the clam chowder which was very tasty. I ordered a cup of tomato bisque and the avocado toast. I didn't make a good choice. Let me start by saying I ordered the avocado toast with the "Cove" sauce on the side but it came with the sauce on top so it went back. When the correct toast arrived at the table it came out with cold avocado, tomatoes and pickled onions. It was a floppy piece of toast with all refrigerated toppings. I don't think they taste tested this item, otherwise it wouldn't be served this way. Also, they left the avocado stem in my avocado spread. The manager was gracious enough to give a 70% discount on it because I did eat the cherry tomatoes and pickled onions off of it since I needed something to eat. As for the tomato bisque it will be a hard pass in the future because it didn't taste like soup, it was more of a pasta sauce flavor and thickness rather than a soup. We will give this place another shot but will have to ask a bunch of questions first. read more
