I loved Covington Cellars. I read the remark about the winery being in a garage. That is honestly a little stretch from the truth. It's more of a warehouse type and does not look like a garage at all. Especially in the inside. They really do out AMAZING quality into their wines. Their wines ARE BOUTIQUE wines which means they hand pick their grapes and only use the best quality ones they pick. A lot of the wines you buy at super markets or beverage warehouses aren't boutique and are processed with the vines, all grapes, pesticides, rodents... You name it. But COVINGTON does not do this. Went to their Supper Club and it was FAB. I highly recommend it. We even got to try wines that weren't released. Their PETITE SYRAH AND CAB FRANC were out of this world. You gotta go. I attended the February 26, 2011 Release Party $5 Tasting Fee [which was not indicated in the email invite - c'mon Cindy!] but a great party nonetheless... - 2008 Sangiovese - $25: fragrant and food friendly soft in the midpalate a little tight in the finish served with a Grilled Chicken and Italian Salsa Crostini - 2007 Prima Miscela - $35: Super Tuscan blend [primarily Sangiovese] scents of berries and chocolate a dry finish served with a Proscuitto Pizza Bite - 2007 Starr - $29: Syrah dominant beautiful nose lovely soft finish served with a mini Greek Burger - 2008 Cabernet Franc - $35: a veritable burst of dark berries I love this one now but this will only improve with age served with a Bacon Wrapped Saffron Risotto read more

We went here today and had a great experience. The staff was really welcoming and easy to chat with. Also, it was a plus that they had football on a big screen. We tried the jalapeno honey cornbread- and it was melt in your mouth delicious! They had a great variety of wine, and perhaps the only downside was that the pours were a bit smaller and fewer (only 4) than I'm used to tasting in Woodinville. The bottles were a bit pricey, but the wine was high quality. Definitely an overall positive experience! read more

Found Covington Cellars via Groupon and was quite pleased! The deal I purchased included a tour and barrel-tasting with the owner as well as a food pairing with a tasting of four additional wines. The wine was great, though not cheap, but the main draw is the food. AMAZING! The winery itself is quite lovely--a welcome surprise when you enter the doors of the non-descript warehouse building door. Worth a try!!! read more

I recently held a retirement party at CC with just under 100 guests. The party was a huge success due in no small part to Cindy and Dave! The staff was nothing short of exceptional, the food was great and the wines were paired perfectly. Great spot for a quiet evening for two or a large party for 100. read more

Loved our visit here. We brought our son who is 1 and they were really polite about having a baby there. We ate lunch there and had a white flight. The food is super delicious and the wine is pretty good although a little oakey( is that a word) for my tastes it was still enjoyable. The potion sizes for a lunch are more like a family tasting so plan on getting a few if you want a full belly. If you do happen to bring your kids keep in mind this is a tasting room so they dont have highchairs. Next time we visit we will be leaving little man at home read more

I purchased the AmazonLocal wine pairing class & 5-course dinner for two deal. The food was good but a little uninspiring, the quality of the wine was poor, and the wine pairing class was OK but a bit off-putting, making the overall experience disappointing. That said, I give these guys 3 stars, based mostly on the quality of the food, the wacky & entertaining cook who gave the cooking demos, and because despite their rough edges, I think they're trying hard here. First, it was a little difficult to find the place. The tasting room is at the back of a row of non-descript single-story garages in Woodinville, with only a small, single sign visible from the road indicating it was there. We drove by it a couple of times before finding it - more conspicuous road signage would help. The woman running the wine pairing class was knowledgeable about wine pairings and offered some decent suggestions throughout the night, but her style and delivery were grating. Most of the night it felt like she was shouting at her patrons, although I think she was just trying to project her voice clearly across the somewhat cavernous room. She was also clearly sick, pausing every couple of minutes to let a sudden spasm of coughs pass, and several times the coughing was directly over or on one of the diners - other guests were visibly discomfited. The 5-course meal was good, but uninspiring. The menu was a deconstructed (i.e., sparse) cobb salad with a delicious little fiddlehead; tomato soup with a sliver of cheddar-pesto grilled cheese sandwich impaled on the soup cup; a cup of mac & cheese with a crab crostini; flax-encrusted chicken with yam mash; and a cupcake with candied bacon. The cook, a high-energy, somewhat wacky woman named Trinity, gave cooking instruction highlighting something we were about to eat before each course. The instruction ranged from the utterly pointless (demonstrating how to cut a carrot & bell pepper into strips) to useful (making mac & cheese from scratch) to hazardous (the demo on making candied bacon was akin to instruction on how to start a house fire - melt sugar until it's a super-heated liquid, then add bacon!). Luckily the quality of the food preparation always surpassed the usefulness of the demos - every course was tasty, particularly the main chicken dish. But the soup, mac & cheese and dessert courses were a little too pedestrian for the setting. Finally, neither the pairings nor the Covington Cellar wines themselves were very inspiring. The only wine I was tempted to purchase during the meal was a decent Cab Franc served with the mac & cheese, but ultimately we passed. read more

As a retirement gift for another couple, we recently celebrated at Covington Cellars' Wine and Food Pairing Class. We had a wonderful time -- amazing foods paired with great wines! Not only did we learn a lot about the pairing process, we also learned some new tricks and techniques from Trinity's cooking demonstrations during the evening. To quote a note from our friends: "What a special evening! Thank you for introducing us to an awesome winery -- wonderful wines and beautifully presented delicious foods." I was not impressed at all. I don't care how much kitch decor they slap up, this is still in an dumpy warehouse. Their wine was mediocre at best and the staff seemed fairly surly. Maybe I'm just not cut out for 'warehouse wine'. I'll find something better to do with my money next time. read more

Every time I take friends to Covington Cellars I know what we are going to experience - outstanding wines that receive great marks in the Wine Spectator and other publications, and a true feeling of welcome. The owners Dave and Cindy are almost always there when we visit on the weekends, and are very generous with their time answering any wine questions you may have. We have gone to several winemaker's dinners there, and have used those occasions for birthday celebrations, hooking up with good friends and other special events. If you are wanting the experience of going to an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord or you are a frequent flier at McDonalds, this probably isn't for you. If you love premium food like Wolfgang Puck's Wild Ginger this definitely is for you. Their chef Trinity is unbelievable - as good as any top chef in 4 & 5 star restaurants in Seattle. The dinners are multi-courses, paired with their wonderful wines. The amount of wine they served with the meal is perfect for those of us who are mindful of the drive home afterwards. They are located in the boutique wine community known as the warehouse wineries. I love this area. The interior of their tasting room is inviting, and on weekends they have lunch selections available for purchase. I have also stopped by there on a Friday night - they are open until 10 and sell wine by the glass and have food as well. Stop by - you will love this! read more

This was where I had my first wine-tasting experience with a close friend. And it was great! We tried half-full glasses of about eight varieties, each with a bite-sized treat that accentuated the wine flavors and aroma. My favorites were their viognier and cabernet. The people who run this cellar are very laid back. Just a heads up, there might be a big dog trotting around. I love dogs, but I'm not sure how safe it is when buzzed people play fetch with the pooch in a small place full of wine bottles :| read more

The tour was nice, but the staff wasn't particularly friendly. It was the same standoffish attitude I've seen at a number of wineries in Woodinville, especially when it comes to tour groups--a level of unwarranted suspicion as if the customer is taking advantage, or worse, intruding on their business. Such odd customer service, which to me means there are too many wineries and some need to be weeded out. Word to the wise for Covington and other wineries, you're selling an experience, tightly bottled as a luxury item. You're not essential. If it wasn't for the people willing to try your product, you'd have none. Be nice. Advice for people looking to try some wineries in Woodinville, there are 120 in the area, you can afford to skip this one. read more

Just got back from the dinner at Covington Cellars. I don't know about the complainers, below. It seems that we all really enjoyed the time there. All together, there were about 30 people in tonight's group. It started with a little bit of history on the winery.... and of course, some wine. Contrary to some comments below, they certainly were not stingy with it. Next came a brief tour and some discussion as to the process involved in making wine. Along with that came a pouring of a barrell tasting oif a vary nice Cab Franc. Next came the cooking demo from julie, who was great and did a yterrific job in putting together a great meal....... oh, and more wine while that was going on. Two of the items she featured in the demo were part of the dinner. Finally came the dinner. EXCELLENT. A wonderful salad, followed by heirloom tomatoe soup... GREAT, the entree of an OUTSTANDING chicken dish ,and capped off with the FANTASTIC dessert, a cream puff shell (as featured in the demo) filled with chocolate mousse. Oh... and of course, the various servings were expertly paired with a complementing wine. The event was a bit on the pricey side, but there are many internet specials available to discount it. This event was very much enjoyed and very well presented. Well worth attening. read more

The lamb ragu pasta was amazing. The pasta is homemade and so delicious. Loved the fresh ricotta dish too! Had a lovely meal here with some friends. If you're looking for a quiet dinner with terrific food and wine, this is it. The restaurant is tucked away in an office park so nothing to write home about from the outside. I absolutely love this place for dinner. IT is very close to our home, in a warehouse district and is a very unexpected gem. The new glass "garage" door adds to the atmosphere. We like to take out-of-town guests here and they always rave about the food. One friend said it was the best meal she'd ever eaten. We always get 4 or 5 different items off of the menu, (which changes monthly) share plates and are never disappointed. They are very creative and dedicated to the food here whether it is a new take on fried chicken, savory brisket, decadent duck-fat fries or roasted cauliflower. It is like having Top Chef in our neighborhood. Don't forget to save room for dessert. The salted caramel ice cream was a favorite. read more

Attended the release party today....the $5 tasting fee was a great bargain...and if you object to paying a tasting fee, you can join the wine club and always get free tastings! This was one of my worst wine tasting experiences of all time. I now have visited many wineries, having lived in Woodinville for the last five years, and this was the one place I will not go back to. The wine was ok, but the service was way below what I am used to. We had one thing after another that did not go well. 1. We were told we had to stay at the bar for our wine tasting, even though there was no one else at the place, and we had someone in our party who had a recent knee surgery (it was clearly visible that he had to sit down).. 2. After we selected the wine tasting option we wanted, we were informed well into the tasting that they will not open a new bottle from the list as it was close to closing time ... none of the other wineries did this ever. I was looking forward to tasting the malbec on the list, which was one of our favorite. 3. When we wanted to use our wine passport at the end, we were told that only the ten dollar tasting option was covered, and that they could not even subtract the 10 dollars from the more expensive tasting option. This was not written anywhere in the passport or written anywhere at the place. This type of inflexibility is something I never experienced before. 4. All of this was toped by a general feeling of not being welcome at the place. The waitress was not very nice from the very beginning, and it only got worse. I have to say that we did not eat there, so I cannot comment on the food. But if you want to have a fun wine tasting experience, talking to nice people in a good atmosphere, this is not the place to go. Right after this we went to Elevations cellars, and the experience was just the opposite. We felt welcome, met nice people and had a great time. read more

Came here on a recommendation. Started out with the their deviled eggs. Followed up with their butter salad and short ribs. Everything was amazing. Food came out at a leisurely pace but only because the chef hand prepared everything...we knew we were in for a treat. And the manager and wait staff were great. If you would have said, our Covington Cellars are in a look a like storage unit in the back row of this industrial park...we would have had a clear picture of what we were buying...I guess you need to get people to come, but c'mon, this is so wrong... read more

Fab wine, wonderful food, a real value!

DO NOT COME HERE!!!! I'm so pissed off that I had to write this review in the car as we leave this place that sucks up your money. We came here with the travelzoo deal of $79 a person. Since there's the 2 of us, I paid $158 and since its a winery I gave it a go even though it already is pricey. The winery is small and in a garage and not some romantic barn that you'd mostly expect. The PART THAT TICKED ME OFF was the TAX and GRATUITY, we paid an extra $23 A PERSON to close everything out. What a shi**y way to treat potential future visitors to come again. They have the nerve to ask you if you want to be part of the supper club?!? OH HELL NO!!!!!! Total, we paid $206 worth of food and not so good tour because you're freakin touring a garage like facility! Food was not even top notch and classy for a couple to be paying $200!!! Unbelievable this place, what a way to shaft your customers! Do not do not do not come back! I will never come here ever again. What a bad bad night!!!! read more

My girlfriends and I went here Oct. 26th to celebrate a bachelorette party for one of our dear friends....best experience ever! I was looking to throw my dear friend an elegant soiree so my expectations were very high and Covington definitely delivered. I booked the Supper Club deal and I have to mention how easy it was for me to work with Charlotte. She took all my calls, answered any questions I had and made sure to ask if each individual person had any food allergies or special requests. The winery is pretty cool, modern and industrial on one side and cozy and warm on the other side. Cindy, the owner, was incredibly welcoming and very down to earth. Her story about how she and her husband started this was endearing, you can tell they enjoy what they do. They are just as serious about making excellent food as they are about making excellent wine. We were served a glass of wine when we first got there and had time to chat and hang out before we went into the warehouse part to see a great cooking demo and taste the great food! Can't say enough about the spanakopita, yum! We had more wine and more time to chat as they brought us a few more yummy bites. Then we went back to our table and the dinner began. The first dish was a salad and honestly, best salad I've had in a long time if at all. Then came the amazing soup that I still think about to this day, I wish I knew what it was. Then we had the best cooked pork I've ever had with fennel potatoes and veggies, just incredible, followed by an amazing chocolate dessert. I don't even like chocolate and I wolfed it down. The wines that were paired with each plate really brought out the flavors of the food and made perfect sense. Our server was wonderful, very sweet and accommodating. During all of this, we were all laughing and talking, having a great time and completely being catered to. I am so grateful to everyone there for giving us a wonderful night, for taking care of us like we were very important to them. The owner, the chefs, the servers were all great and really made this a special night for us, thanks so much!!!! read more

We were given a Wine & Food pairing tasting gift certificate and after attending were so taken with the owners and staff, their wines and what they've done at this winery that we decided to come back with our adult kids for dinner. They have a very small kitchen and a very limited menu, so when we made the reservations, we made it known that 2 in our party were pescetarians. They readily accomodated us. We had a wonderful time, the food was great and the bill reasonable. Where else can you eat dinner and drink wine without the restaurant up-charge. Yes, they conducted their Wine & Food pairing tours and things got busy but this is a working winery and that in itself was part of the ambiance. By the way, we found their (not yet bottled) Petite Syrah wine to be amazing and were given a healthy sample of this at our original Wine & Food pairing tour. This should be 4 1/2 stars but I didn't know how to assign the additional 1/2. read more

Previously we had been this winery on a LivingSocial deal. The food was good but tiny portions and the wine pours were miniscule, which we chalked up to the special pricing deal. We had a pretty good time, and ended up joining the wine club. Several months later, we went to Covington for a Valentine's dinner which was very expensive (over $250/couple) but the menu sounded really good. We should have known we were in for trouble when they did not have our names on the list even though we are members and signed up by email on the first day (in reply to an email they sent us). At least they didn't turn us away. When they seated us, they made a point of telling us that the wine was already poured (a total of 4) and that we might want to save it for the course it was paired with. I want to be clear that these were AT MOST 1 ounce pours, not the 3 or 5 ounce pours Cindy claims in response to other reviews.(I measured a 3 ounce pour to show my husband when we got home to prove it.) They also did not provide a copy of the menu and the wine pairings so we would know what we'd be eating and drinking. We had to look it up on their website on our phones.The dinner was supposed to start at 7 but a large party had not showed up yet so they made the rest of us wait for almost 20 minutes. Of course when they started serving, they served the late party first while the rest of sat around starving. When they finally served the first course which was a crostini with goat cheese (messy), about half the tables in the room realized that we had no napkins. We had to chase down one of the dim-witted servers to get some, and inexplicably, she brought out two napkins at a time. In between courses the servers completely disappeared, and I had to get up to refill our own water glasses multiple times (which the servers never attempted to fill). I will say that the food was sublime - crab ravioli, duck confit salad, mushroom bisque with homemade focaccia, beef tenderloin with prawns. Unfortunately the only food that was hot was the soup. All of the other food which should have been hot was room temperature. While we were on the soup course, one of the servers brought out a commercial dishwasher rack full of silverware and proceeded to check and sort it to put away for at least 10 minutes. So we had to listen to this clattering noise while we ate. We ran out of wine and had to pay an additional $25 for two small pours to eat with our tenderloin. Dinner was finally done around 10 due to the slowness of the service. When we were ready to leave, we picked up our 4th quarter shipment of wine, and when we got it home realized they'd given 2 of the same thing. We decided after all of this that we wanted to quit the wine club by were told that there is a $50 cancellation fee if you cancel under one year, and you have to pay back all of the discounts you receive. I can't describe how disappointed we are with the service here. I would not recommend this place at all. read more
