Giant Mozz Stick (Nov special)

Cowbell has SO much going for it - big open sports bar with huge TVs playing every sport imaginable, great menu with unique takes on burgers and bar snacks, gorgeous bar with plenty of local drafts and too many spirits to choose from, a killer happy hour, and even a little patio across the road with a nice view of the quarry. If there is one thing that prevents Cowbell from being great, it's consistency in quality of food and service. Once they figure all that out, it's a 5 star spot. The burgers here are absolutely stellar when they get the cook temp correct. We've had a perfect medium rare that was to die for, and then a medium rare that had no pink and was dry as a bone. Same with the sweet potato tater tots - they are one of my favorite things ever, but they'll burn them sometimes and make them totally inedible. The food usually takes a while to come out and the prices are a little steep but when they get it right, it's totally worth it. $6 Margarita Mondays here are a gift, especially because the marg is absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced. I would put it up there in quality with the Mexican spot across the street. They also have other food and drink specials throughout the week and every weekday from 4pm til 6pm (I think). I think Cowbell is overall a great addition to Rock Row, just watch the temps on those tasty tasty burgers.

Magic mushroom burger and sweet potato tots

I've driven by a few times. Was in the area so it thought today would be the day to actually go in. In the mood for a burger and Cowbell delivered. I had the Magic Mushroom with sweet potato tots. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. Branding is a cute touch. The tots were tasty. There's a nice draft menu. The restaurant is comfortable and, this being a Monday afternoon, even without football or hockey, a nice place to visit. I think it would be an even better place to catch a game.

Oh man. I want to love this place. The TV's the sports and the ambiance. Here is what we did not like. The food or service. We just ordered apps and got cauliflower wings and some pickle chips. They were so cold ... the cauliflower was like rubber and the pickle chips were no flavor and cold as well. The service was something that I didn't expect. The two bartenders would rather have been elsewhere obviously by them really having no personality as people were piling in for March madness. It was sad because it would have been a great opportunity to connect and make great money. The bathrooms were clean and new. Like I said I wanted to love it but I am just calling it as I see it. I will be back if I want a beer and some sports on the TV but food will Not be on the agenda :)

Cowbell is a neat environment if you're into the sports bar vibe with wall to wall TVs. It's clean and spacious inside, with a decent amount of seating. The meaty tenders were very good, and so was the border, but the fries were dry and seemed like an afterthought. A plus is that the menu has good variety in terms of different types of burgers and sandwiches. The appetizers weren't super enticing; I was surprised they didn't have any mozzarella sticks! Service took a looong time considering the place was pretty empty on a weekend afternoon. Plan extra time if you're going to stop by--this may not be the place to try and drop in for a quick lunch.

Unexpected stop for brunch! Staff was great! Bartender was personable and friendly! They had a DJ with some really great music! Great spot to watch sports! Food was good! I ordered the sweet potato hash, it was good, would have been much better if the eggs were not over cooked, I was not asked how I wanted them cooked so I should not have assumed that they would have been runny eggs. Look forward to going back for their usual menu!

My expectations were low considering a lot of mentions of poor service and food by other reviews. Maybe we lucked out showing up decently early on a Saturday that wasn't busy. Less than 10 total customers and service was fast and got our food quickly. My fiancée got their Thanksgiving Burger (a great option if you have a craving for a Thanksgiving sandwich anytime of the year) and I got their Brisket-nator. I asked for it medium rare and I'd say it was a little closer to medium but the taste was good. It is an extremely large burger with the onion rings and brisket on it. The fries could use some more seasoning as they were a little bland. I will say this place is exactly what it looks like inside, it is a sports bar with a heavy focus on large tvs with all the games being played. A decent spot if you want to grab a drink and watch a game! Service may be slow during their busy times though. I'd return to try some more burgers in the future or get the Thanksgiving one!

A good addition to Rock Row, which is conveniently located right off the turnpike. Sports bar and the menu to reflect that. Heavy on meat and fried food. Big TVs with sports playing on them. Live music. ST at the bar two different t visits and service is very sporadic.

Good burgers, good service, no complaints at all. Was it the best burger i've had? No. But it was pretty good!

Black off tasting tater tots. Whenever I DoorDash they always forgot the addition and what we take off.

She also pre-ordered the blueberry pie for dessert as she said she was hungry. The appetizer comprised 4 pieces and some marinara sauce. Tasted great, but, not much for $9. I ordered a flight of 4 beers, as I was unfamiliar with the Sea Dog brews. Good craft beer, but only one of the four aligned with my personal tastes. While I didn't love any of them, they were all fine samples. I'm just not sure which I would want to order in a full glass. For my meal, I ordered the Shepherds Pie Burger. Wow. Didn't look too big, but it was filling and tasted great. Cooked perfectly. The server brought my wife's blueberry pie, and it was everything she hoped for. Most blueberry pies these days seem to be filled with jam/jelly and a few blueberries. But this time the distinctive Maine blueberries poured out of the crust after she cut into it.she said it tasted great. My appetite kicked in and I ordered the chocolate chip cookie sundae. Nice big scoop of vanilla ice cream, with chocolate sauce on top of a giant cookie. I could not finish it; took the cookie home. Tasted great at home later in the evening. Great service and food. The beer was good; it just didn't align with my preference. I like dark red or brown malty ales. Tastes differ, so, I'm not complaining about the beer. We should all try something different once in a while. If you find yourself in the Scarborough, MA area, you can't go wrong with the Sea Dog.

Lucky for me they had a special listed that night of something I had been craving for. A nice slice of Prime rib roast! I knew I was taking a risk since we had just arrived before dinner service was ending but we were greeted by the waitress who said the rib roast was still available. My husband had their Parmesan Crusted Haddock with a pretty decent looking Garden salad and Sweet potato fries. I asked if it was possible to get a piece of prime rib medium rare and they made it happen. Their sides of mashed potatoes and spears of broccoli was very generous and tasted delicious. The rib roast was moist and tender with a nice container filled with Au jus. The dining room area was practically empty so we had the space almost to ourselves. We happily inhaled our food and were given a nice period of privacy. 3 large screen TVs were on in this area so my husband enjoyed watching some games he had missed. The rib roast was just right and was very delicious. The setting is comfortable and a bit dark but the food presented was a real treat. It seems they are the hang out place of many locals and I can see why. You don't expect it but the outdoor seating area also includes a fire pit to enjoy on these cool nights. I can see why many locals and guests return. The wait staff attendant was busy cleaning tables and finishing up for the evening and looked in on us a couple of times only towards the end of our meal. Not as attentive as say other establishments but then again she looked like she was covering jobs of more than one person. Service can be affected in this regard but I'm not going to ding her for doing double duty and working so hard. The bar area looked well stocked and was attended by at least a couple of bar staff. The clientele looked like locals mixed with some who came from the nearby hotels in the area like us. The gatherings looked friendly and just enjoying time together. The outdoor seating area is well lit with a very nice seating area around a fire pit. Their listed specials looked very tempting and I'm just glad I got my hunk of prime rib to enjoy. Nicely done Coppersmith Tavern.

Several more visits since my last review…read more Some things haven't changed: -- The beers are still great. Swish, Here's to Feeling Good All the Time, Nothing Gold, and Reciprocal are a formidable foursome. At any given time, you can usually get at least two, more often three, sometimes all four. -- You'd be hard pressed (pun intended) to find a better smashburger in Portland, but I'd also put it up against any regularly-offered burger I've had in Portland--smashed or otherwise. I love everything about it, from the high caliber of the beef to the fresh pillowy milk bun to the exhilaratingly strong cure of the bacon to the razor-thin cutting of the vegetables to the execution that gets even a smashburger burger juicy. -- I'm still not crazy about the wings. They have a frozen dinner feel to them. A few things, though, have changed: -- Full service now instead of having to order everything at the bar. That's a plus. -- The place is much more crowded-- including screaming tykes-- on the weekends. Not a plus, but can't fault a place for its own popularity. -- The fries are now the industrial strength coated kind. A big minus and a sad drop off from prior greatness, but better that than from an item off the main cast. -- You can now order beer cans to go from the table rather than having to get in line. A nice convenience. A few things to know: -- It's a surprisingly good option for vegetarians and pescatarians. The veggie burger and the grilled fish sandwich are both much more than solid. -- There's outdoor seating in front of the building and also to the right. -- The bar room to the right of the entrance is adults only, so if those screaming tykes get on your nerves, this is the place to be. -- You can still order beer at the bar if that's your preference over table service. Still a favorite, and the combo of beer, food, and space is tough to beat (Mast Landing and Maine Beer in Freeport are also somewhere in that echelon).

Bissell Brothers is about a good four and a half stars for me…read more We're in Portland for a couple of days and my boyfriend has told me how he's had a good experience at Bissell Brothers before while being in the area for baseball games with his buddies. He suggested we stop in for a late lunch when he picked me up from the train station that's basically around the corner. The place was mobbed inside for the World Cup final, but they still had outside seating available. We chose a quieter section with picnic tables where they had QR codes to order food and drinks from your phone. It's a craft brewery so why would I not try a beer? I got the lime lager. Light, crisp, a subtle tartness, no complaints there. For food we got fries with their house hot sauce, soft pretzels and the hot Maine maple chicken sandwich. The fries were deliciously crispy and the hot sauce had a nice kick to it. The pretzels with beer cheese and mustard were also tasty, however you might want to be careful with the mustard as it will really burn your nose if you eat too much of it at once. Lastly, the chicken sandwich was fantastic. It's definitely a messy one, but hits all the different flavor and texture notes that you're looking for in a good chicken sandwich. All in all a great experience. Good beer, good food, good service and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.
