Mexican is my food of choice and Cowbron made me realize why I stand on my decision. Upon entering I was greeted and seated promptly with chips and salsa brought to the table. I ordered a lunch special which was a chicken quesadilla and chicken taco with rice, it came to the table rather quickly . The server made sure to check on me just enough not too much and not too little, it was a pretty nice sized restaurant and I was there 30 minutes after opening so it was not crowded at all. The prices was very reasonable I have to say the cheapest I've had at any other Mexican restaurant that I have been to. When in the area again I'll give Cowbrow another try it was tasty. read more

For my first time visiting, I would say it was just ok. I was pretty disappointed. They have a decent size menu but there isn't much variety. The prices are reasonable. The salsa for the table was good but it was a bit spicy so I waited for my drink to offset the heat. Our waitress was kind and the service was good, however the food was mediocre. I ordered the combo with a quesadilla and chimichanga. The quesadilla was more like a shredded chicken taco and I'm not sure where the cheese was. The chimi was average as were the rice and beans. I got a taco a la carte, and the meat was gritty, didn't have a flavor and was just plain old bland. The bf got a seafood chimi which he enjoyed. This isn't a place I would volunteer to go back to, but if I happened to be there again, I'd try some other options. read more

We had a really good experience at Cowbron! I really like the location because it's pretty central to both the county and city. It's located in what used to be the Deer Creek center (not 100% sure what it is called now"), so there's lot of parking due to the amount of businesses. We were seated quickly on a Friday evening and greeted quickly by our server. She was great, knowledgeable, and super friendly. She had purple hair, I do not remember her name but shout out to her! I asked if they had skinny margaritas and she said they could make some with orange juice. Not something I've encountered before but I like to try new things! It wasn't bad, but definitely missed the lime centered taste. The drinks came with really cute drink accessories- I love little touches like that! We got chips and queso to share. Queso was great and the chips were super good. Great thickness and don't break when you dip them. That's always the worst. For my meal, I ordered the chicken/ steak fajitas. This spot is good. It's a good place to go with groups and families. The ambience is casual and pleasant. It's clean, the staff is very nice and the food selection is great. (They made a great transition from the former seafood place that lived their prior.) They start you off with chips (tortilla) and salsa and drinks. Then you order from their extensive selection of items. I got the Steak Cowbron and it came out smelling great and sizzling. It was good but will say it got overcooked because it's served on a hot plate. There's something for everyone and a good selection for children, including chicken fingers for those with discerning tastes. Hehe. Now I'd like to explain the 3 stars and not greater. It is relatively new, but their wait staff is definitely a bit inexperienced and it makes for a little uncomfortable experience. The food was tasty and the owner is definitely very welcoming, but with the staff still trying to figure out their timing and confidence made it a little difficult. A lot of time spent waiting, and waiting... Though, I WILL return! It was decent overall. Maybe next visit will be moving like a well oiled machine and I can update this review! read more

Stopped in on a Friday evening at 6:30 and was able to get a table. The waitstaff was very friendly. We ordered a jalapeño margarita and the sangria. Both were delicious. Chips and salsa were definitely above average. The chips are on the thicker side and good for scooping queso and guacamole . For entrees we went with the chimichanga with chicken. The chicken was juicy and the rice was good. The tacos weren't the best. We ordered carne asada and al pastor. Both were dry and lacked flavor. The corn tortillas tasted like they were right out of the bag. They were hard and dry and made for a very dry taco. We added an order of rice refried beans to accompany the tacos. Delivery thru grub hub. This was a newer place I had wanted to try over by the maplewood license office on laclede station. Cold night... worked on packing all day and didn't want to cook or go out.. the delivery was great. Surprisingly fast I had it in less than 30 minutes. The food was nice to have... but this was a bit bland for me. The tortilla would have been tastier crispy pan fried. The tortilla I got was tough and chewy. Salsa and chips were okay... but just. Since I was eating at home I had this with a glass of wine. Maybe a margarita would have made it taste better. Price is decent but of course all the adds when you order delivery really drive up the price. I've heard the ambiance is okay.... But I'm eating on my warm house in front of TV. So after eating it and thinking about it and not looking to find fault but... the chips and salsa were not good. The ones I had at home from aldi were way better. I mean aldi products are tasty but you expect something you pay for ( yes pay for) on delivery to be somewhat special. I was excited to try a new Mexican restaurant but when we got here, I was a bit taken aback as we were the ONLY diners in the entire restaurant for a late Sunday lunch. This is a fairly large space in a lesser mall with copious parking. Several large TVs are mounted high--the one nearest us improperly set-up so the input menu was visible the entire time we dined. (Annoying.) It was a little dim and cheaply decorated with tchotchkes. Our waitress was quick but we weren't ready to order and SHE seemed annoyed to have to come back a few times before we were ready. We got an Enchilada Rancheras plate, chile rellanos, an enchilada, a cheese quesadilla, and a steak quesadilla. Before the entrees arrived, the waitress brought a small basket piled high with crispy chips and a fake plastic mortar filled with salsa. Both were fine. We also got a raspberry margarita which was fairly light in alcohol. The entrees came shortly and after the first bite, my daughter pushed her plate away and announced that the cheese in the chile rellano was provel. In horror, my other kid announced that their enchilada also had provel. My kids are not St. Louis natives and hate provel. The entire meal was a loss, my daughter's plate a swamp of gooey, melted provel. I didn't think my chile rellano was too bad but will agree that it was not what I expected for Mexican food. I asked the waitress what kind of cheese was in our food and she said she didn't know. I asked if she would ask the chef and she said no. I think it was a speech barrier but I couldn't explain to her that I wanted to know if the cheese was provel... Either way, I had a question. She couldn't answer it and didn't find anyone who could help... So disappointed that this didn't work out. We definitely won't be back. read more

I tried to take myself and my youngest daughter out for lunch at a restaurant we never patronize before hoping to have a wonderful meal and experience. Unfortunately that was not the case once my daughter entered the restaurant just to be greeted by a UNFRIENDLY, UNWELCOMING WHITE LADY with black her!! She was very crass and unprofessional towards my daughter whereas when I entered I immediately knew by the look on my daughter face that something had transpired NEGATIVELY!! I asked my daughter what had happened and after she told me I then decided I don't have to spend my HARD EARNED MONEY at a place where we don't feel wanted or welcomed!! We have gotten spoiled in St. Louis over the last ten years with really fabulous Mexican places opening all over the city. It used to that you had to go to Fairmount City or Cherokee street for so much as a taco that wasn't just ground beef, lettuce, cheddar cheese and some tomato. Now all over the city places have popped up, serving not only excellent street tacos but with chicken and Carnitas, Asade, Lingue... and they all pretty great. So I was excited To see Cowbron open in Deer Creek Plaza by the license office. The space is a plain store front and the interior has a nice bar and then booths and tables for seating. The menu was broad but fairly typical and it felt a lot more Tex/Mex than I would prefer. They offered chicken, pork or ground meat tacos so that was unappealing. I ordered fajitas and then scarfed down half a bowl of chips. The salsa was mild but totally unremarkable and it was easy to over-consume. The fajitas when they came were sizzling. They were served with floor tortillas and for the price of 12 bucks I got shrimp, beef and chicken. Great portion, perfectly Cooked and delicious. Served with a side of rice, lettuce and sour cream. They skimped a little on the rice. Had an iced tea and called it a meal. Service was excellent as there was not a lot of lunch traffic. It was pleasant experience but unremarkable. I will likely go back and try one of their entrees and a margarita. But for now... there is nothing you would miss that I have seen by not going here. read more

The reception there my date and I received there this weekend was underwhelming at best...especially when you consider Cowbron is fairly new to the area. On this particular Saturday afternoon, the location was only about 20% full, as the Maplewood DMV Strip Mall they call home certainly isn't prime real estate. Still, despite having a noticeable lack of patrons, far too many of their empty tables failed to be clean. I held off on this to make sure I didn't get food poisoning because I genuinely wasn't sure if the green chili pork on my plate was rancid or just seasoned terribly. The rice was undercooked and flavorless. I finally figured out that the green chili sauce just tasted like lime juice. Now, I adore lemon and lime, but this was nasty the bottled variety. The complementary salsa had a little bit of heat but was lacking anything else to round out the flavors. All in all, it seems like whoever is responsible for the food doesn't have a good sense of how to balance out the flavors in their dishes. The food is somehow bland and very strange tasting all at the same time. Good news is, I only ate something that tasted weird. I didn't get sick so yay for that. read more

We have been to Cowbron a few times but this will probably be our last. The food is good but the service is severely lacking. The waitress, (seems they only have two) is lacking the personality to be in the service industry. She never really greeted us but grunted to us to follow her. She seated us right by the kitchen door even though the restaurant was practically empty. She gave us a basket of chips and salsa then disappeared. We can see her filling to go orders, never looking out direction. After 15 minutes, I asked another waitress if someone could please take our order. She never smiled, never made any small talk like you would expect, never introduced herself,(I found out her name from the bill, Krystal ) and she never apologized for the wait. We like to support local businesses but unless they take a serious look at the reviews this girl is getting, we won't be back. read more
