The food was really good. I had the torta. Bread was soft and fresh. Good flavor and very filling. The service was very good. Restaurant was very clean. I'm not from the area. It was a little hard to find. Its in the back of a building. I ended up driving past it the first time.

Such an amazing place. The food was delicious and the prices were not that bad. We ended up trying out the margaritas and some taquitos as an appetizer. The taquitos were piping hot with huge chunks of chicken. My partner had the tamales and I had the Tlayuda. Both platters were delicious and had the perfect flavor and spice. This place is highly recommended and underrated.

A sneaky good authentic Mexican restaurant that is worth the stop in. The place is tucked in underneath a shop, and was easy to miss from the road. Once you walk in however, the vibrant colors can't be mistaken for anything other than an authentic Mexican place. We were quickly seated and ordered the Burrito carne asada and three al pastor street tacos. Chips and salsa were readily available while we waited for our main dishes. Food came out quite quickly and we could not be happier with the taste. The menu has a little bit of everything, and has the value that you look for with these non chain Mexican restaurants. If you're in and around South County, La Oaxaquena is definitely worth the stop!

Fun little place in a weird spot! If you haven't been there before, I'll bet you will miss it, as it is behind and below another shop. Small place, with just a couple of dozen seats and the standard bright color decorations that you expect at a Mexican restaurant. The meme has different sections, including and authentic meals section, which we ordered from. The mole was good, but seemed a little bland to me, chips and salsa were good you can tell that the salsa was made very recently as it still had some crunch in the veges. Server was quick to take our orders, but not very talkative and we had to ask for refills on our drinks, which is my own pet peeve. Looking forward to going again, and trying different things. Not sure about the cricket appetizer!

Restaurant is down the hill in the back. With a big sign that says Mexican Restaurant. Nice and clean inside. Nothing fancy. Waiter was very polite and did a great job. Started us off with WARM chips (nice touch) and an excellent red salsa, not spicy (wife as happy about that). Reminded me of fresh cilantro salsa. Ordered the tamale dinner. Came with 3 tamales. No sides, but there was a lot of food. Very good taste. Really liked the texture of the tamale. The chicken and the mole sauce were very good. Think I will ask for a like more sauce next time to put over the top. Other had the beef taco salad and she said it was great. She really enjoyed it. Another had the lunch special with chicken enchilada and chicken chimichanga with refried beans. Said the enchilada was good and that the chimichanga was great. Really liked the refried beans. Great flavor and tasted fresh. Definitely Would go back. If you like or love real Mexican food you should give it a try. It is across from Melville high school and a little hard to find - but worth the extra effort.

Stopped by la Caxaqueña To have some Mexican food Juan provided great customer service I got the lunch fajitas Mixed steak and chicken and Aguas Frescas

My wife's burrito. Cheese on the side. She was a fan.

Wow, this is a tough one. Plus: wrestling on tv! Seriously, that added to the atmosphere imho. Friendly service. Not everyday Mexican food. Molotes are fun to eat and tasty. Tamales are wrapped in plantain leaves instead of corn husks, making for an interesting presentation. My wife really liked her burrito. Minus: The tamales had a bit of a fennel-like taste that wasn't entirely welcome. maybe it was the plantain leaves. I don't think it was the molé as it was also on the Molotes. Moreover, the chicken in said tamales was pretty tough. Now, I'm not sure if there are other options than chicken: if there are it would be for the better. Verdict: I am undaunted. I'll give them another try.

Street tacos (steak), chips / salsa (great salsa!), white cheese, burrito Oaxaca and margaritas!

Really enjoy this recent addition to the south county area. Staff is super friendly, menu is full of enticing options. This was our 4th or 5th visit and each time we've been really pleased with our service / food / drinks. The one item missing from the attached pic was our order of tamales. Super special tamales, wrapped in banana leaves...in our opinion some of the best tamales in the city. Service is always friendly and inviting. La Oaxaquena is a regular for us...if you are in South County and looking for a quality place give them a try. Well worth stopping in. We're looking forward to celebrating with them on Cinco de Mayo!

Cute Mexican restaurant that's around the corner/ behind a Mediterranean place. The inside is cheerful and clean. Our server was extremely attentive. Chips were warm and fresh. Salsa was good. I had the lunch special 2 for $8.25. The taco and quesadilla were good. Pepsi products, and that includes Diet Dr Pepper. I'd definitely go back.

I am assuming the heat inside was why there were grease/sweat patches on the edge of the table I was seated on. The birria tacos were very average, the rice that came with it was absolutely bland and the pastor enchiladas were alright but the meat was mostly charred. The horchata was so dilute, I couldn't taste anything. The only saving grace were the chips and salsa - especially the salsa. Overall, this is a pretty overpriced place for below average food.

It's been a few weeks since I had any pocket cash to go out to eat... so I decided to pick a food…read moresource at random for a Saturday afternoon, and I'm SO GLAD I did... You know how they say one of the best things about Mexico is the food? I have to admit, I would honestly wouldn't know and just have to trust the stories I've heard, as I've never been lucky enough to go to Mexico.... But all my life I've heard stories about people who go and basically remind you.. NEVER hit a restaurant for _authentic_ Mexican food. You want to hit the street vendors. Well, St. Louis has a fantastic surprise.. Now you can do that right here in the city! Part of a three-restaurant set up, Amigo Sole is the "street vendor" restaurant that's not on the street. (And having met the owner of the full set-up, I'm REALLY hoping i get invited to the grand opening of Jekyll & Hyde) As it was middle of the day Saturday, I didn't ask for anything alcoholic (so i don't know if the reviewer that asked for alcoholic beverages and was told they didn't have any was just unlucky or if it was true.) But I'll take a Mexican Coke over American Coke any day of the week (NO, get your minds out of the gutter.. not that powdered one!). Anyway, I went simple for a quick stop, and went with the Chicken Bomb. at the recommendation of the cashier and he was quick to name this one off.. (and always remember cashiers, have a favorite READY, so thumbs up to the cashier on this one!) . And then to my amazement.. no more than 5 minutes later, HOT, tasty, cheesy, chicken quesadilla style BOMB-diggity! (Ironically this one is not listed on the website menu, only the instore menu? Come on Sole, online is everything today :) ) Absolutely delicious food.. and absolutely messy too, as it literally would fall apart in my hands.. (HEY, that's a good thing!) As for the decor.. 100% true, as Amigo Sole definitely has SOUL! (and lots of soles!). Again Amigo Sole isn't designed to be a 'great sit down' restaurant, it's designed to be street-vendor FUN!!!! and with what decoration they have, it pulls it off fantastically in my opinion. So just based on my meal, what the owner told me about the Amigo Sole, you're getting EXACTLY what you're promised a Mexican street vendor serving fantastic Mexican street vendor food, only with a roof over your head the entire time. During the meal, met again (Who i believe to be) the owner of the store and talked with him about Amigo Sole and how amazing it was to me... and he told me about the three-restaurant combination. (And I apologize sir, but I completely forgot your name when we talked!). even mentioning they share three kitchens when it gets busy (so I was kinda lucky as i think the rain scared everyone out for the day), but I'm still hoping for the Jeckyll & Hyde invitation! (I'll even pretend to find a date if I have to for the upscale part!)

When we walked in, the place was empty, besides the singular bartender standing behind the bar. She told us to sit anywhere we wanted, so we chose a table near the bar. Then, she politely asked us to move to the bar. She apologized and said she was new and that she didn't know what was going on. We started with an order of chips and salsa and shared a mango margarita on the rocks. Let's just say our marg was missing the rocks. The bartender forgot to add ice, so our margita was warm. She gave us a cup of ice to pour in. The marg itself wasn't very strong and tasted pretty syrup-y. Although the chips and salsa only cost us $2.50, I probably could've gone without. I don't think I would've liked them even if they were complimentary. The salsa was decent, but the chips were saltless and flavorless. We ordered two tacos and the arroz con pollo plate. My tacos came out at different times. Both were tiny and disappointing. I had the Hemp Avenue taco and the Sarah Street taco. The black bean juice was everywhere. The tortillas were dry and fell apart. They brought out a quesadilla instead of our arroz con pollo plate. We were confused, but the bartender insisted the order was correct. Then, a few minutes later, the correct plate was brought out. I guess I can't be mad that we scored a free quesadilla. However, it was quite soggy and the cheese was almost a rubbery texture. While we were there, a DJ started playing. The volume of the music went back and forth between increasingly loud and extremely quiet. None of the other staff members acknowledged us whatsoever. It felt like we weren't even there. I hate sounding so pessimistic, so I will say two positive things: their outdoor patio looks like a fun spot in the summer, and I bet this would be a great option if you've been out partying all night and need some food in your belly. Overall a bizarre experience from start to finish!
