    Vegan chorizo & potato burrito
    Matt B.

I just moved in around the corner from this residentially located coffee shop. It's a beautiful, intimate coffee shop with baked items, sandwiches, and various canned and packaged goods of pretty high-quality. Among their ready foods includes a vegan chorizo & potato burrito ($10) and some vegan cookies (not made in-house; $~4.50). I tried the burrito, which was pretty middling and quite small for the price. This could be improved big time. I also had an Americano, which was fine, priced reasonably. Service isn't particularly friendly but it's perfectly competent. The spot itself is really, really nice, and given its proximity to us, I'm sure I'll be back.

Cute little neighbourhood corner cafe with a great atmosphere and lots of outdoor seating. We got a pumpkin latte and a cappuccino. The cappucino was done well and would get it. I felt that the spice on the pumpkin latte was a bit strong but would want to try some of their other drinks on the menu.

This is a cool little coffee shop + mini grocery store that serves small breakfast goods and pastries. If you're ordering something that requires reheating, be sure to double-check that it warmed to your satisfaction before you leave. While we sat there, we noticed two other people asking if their items can be heated some more & I thought my waffle wasn't heated however my girlfriend said she did heat them.

The baked goods tasted very good. The latte was only ok for me. The latte was not as well as the one at Le. Marche St. George Cafe. I personally felt that their coffee beans were not very fresh, so the flavour of the latte was not the best. This coffee shop is located at the residential area. There is street parking. The coffee shop gives people a warm feeling. They sell others types of food such as pies and others at the same time. It is quite unique in that neighbourhood.

I was so taken by this place while passing on my bike that I had to quickly screech my brakes to a halt in order to bookmark it for future enjoyment. The residential location and homey feel of the cafe are incredibly inviting, making it seem like you're entering a cross between someone's well appointed kitchen and an old school apothecary/soda fountain (complete with broad white marble counter tops). It's not every day that a proprietor takes the time to chat and ask your name, but Leslie could not have been nicer, establishing the kind of personalized rapport that will absolutely make me return again. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I did have tasty Tandoori chicken wrap sandwich. In addition to a selection of pre-made sandwiches, they also offer a good assortment of baked goods (including gluten free options), a freezer full of Earnest Ice Cream jars, and a small variety of grocery staples like condiments, crackers, etc. If you live in the neighborhood and can't stomach the craziness of Cambie, they might have what you're looking for.

Located on a Quiet corner of W 18th ave and Columbia. Great coffee and blueberry muffins, the kind that is crispy on the top and soft and full of whole blueberries inside.

Delicious hot day find from Nice Pops!

This place is another adorable, off the beaten track addition to the neighbourhood. In a space that has a somewhat colourful background, it's nice to see fresh faces take up this cute little neighbourhood nook. They're pouring some seriously good coffee and their tiny grocery section is going the way of Le Marche and boasts excellent local fare and fun, unique items. It's where Nice Pops and I cheated on Johnny Pops together. It was a confusing afternoon. Super bonus? The work with City Beet Farm, who grow veggies just down the street and sell their fare on Sunday afternoons. Talk about local, try dishing up a salad grown three blocks away! Lovely touch. Owners are fabulously friendly. Always nice to see Earnest Ice Cream in the mix. I'm saving that last star for the food. The day I went, they seemed pretty low on munchables and I ended up going elsewhere for lunch. But I hear fabulous things about the baked goods, so i'll have to investigate again. Place to kick your heels up outside without traffic? Lovely. Just, lovely.

It is a split opening. You either walk into IGA or Home Sense. The store is very small inside and almost a triangle/wedge shape, which made it difficult to navigate. The aisles are very narrow and very tall. I was overwhelmed by all the close proximity of things and people so basically cruised through then left. I had wanted to buy some chips but I am not sure if this particular store is expensive or that is just the price of things but I didn't find anything I wanted to buy. Lines were long and near the exit (which is already a long, narrow entrance). Upon entering the store there was a pop up tent out front of the store and someone was selling fresh fruits and vegetables. Not sure if they are an outside vendor or affiliated with the store. I assume that if I had gone to a store not in downtown it may have been larger, more spread out and less expensive. I assume that the aisles are tall and narrow as a space is at a premium and they are trying to fit the most amount of product in to cater to people.

i stopped by hmart at the corner of robson and seymour, and it's one of those places that feels…read morelike it's doing a lot at once, but it works. it runs 9am to 10pm, 365 days a year, and you really get the sense of it being a hard working, always on kind of store. it spans two levels, with a main ground floor and an escalator up to the second floor, so it feels more like a compact vertical mall than a typical grocery stop. the ground floor leans heavily into kbeauty and lifestyle. there's makeup, skincare, fashion, luggage, and accessories, cuteness overload, all mixed together in a way that's easy to browse. the layout is compact (very downtown), but it adds to the energy. they've also got artbox items and a surprising amount of canadian souvenir goods, which gives it a slightly tourist friendly feel. interestingly, no bts merch in sight, maybe due to their hiatus? kpop music videos play on screens above us, full choreography and colour coordinated outfits adding constant movement while you browse. it makes even a quick stop feel a bit more alive. medicube on sale was tempting, and i'll probably look into it more later, mostly to justify whether i actually need it. one thing that stands out pretty quickly is how direct they are about shoplifting. for a store open every day of the year, you get the sense they've had to deal with it more than most. the signs with photos of shoplifters paired with police file numbers are very clear, and security is visible as soon as you enter. it takes a certain level of boldness to be that upfront about it, and instead of softening the message, they've chosen to address it head on. it shifts the tone, but it also makes their stance unmistakable. heading up the escalator to the second floor, the focus shifts to groceries. there's a small food court, along with housewares, a lottery kiosk, and everyday grocery staples, all tucked into the flow of the space. it's easy to lose a bit of time just moving between sections. from there, the snacks section does what it does best. they have hello kitty kikkoman soy sauce, roasted sweet potatoes, pouch drinks with separate ice cups, and a solid selection of ready to eat meals. on this visit, i ended up buying two new flavours of turtle chips: wagyu beef with wasabi and carbonara spicy chicken. priorities. they also have a stamp card system, collect ten stamps and you get a $25 hmart gift card, which feels like a quiet nudge that you'll probably be back anyway. overall, it's a high energy, well contained space: part grocery store, part beauty shop, part snack discovery zone, with a hardworking downtown rhythm and a very clear sense of how it runs.
