Excellent experience here, the atmosphere and staff were great. Menu is simple but the food is delicious. We researched places to try on a road trip from SE Missouri to Albuquerque, NM and Amarillo, TX was our stopping point. It's a little hole in the wall but had charm. We stopped in around noon on a Friday and the place looked closed but they were open and we were excited to try it out. We were immediately greeted and told to sit wherever. Our server was extremely nice and very down to earth, she helped us order and was detailed and friendly. We ordered sweet tea to drink, pretty good and served in huge cups, a bit sweet but okay. We got the chile cheese fries with green chile, it is a huge portion, plenty for two or more and served with ranch. I had the burger from hell, I love spicy food and it was just that. The burger was soaked in Tabasco and comes with grilled or sautéed jalapeños among onions, lettuce and tomato, if you want it. So good! My fiancé is not typically into spicy foods but she tried the green chili cheeseburger after trying the fries and liking the spice of the hatch green chiles. She really enjoyed it. The burgers are large, half pound I think and we were able to eat half of ours and took the rest to go. Huge portions and reasonable prices. The place is cute and well run, very clean. I've been going here for years when in Amarillo - it's a classic and one of my favorite places to get a steak, beer and fries in the world.

Visiting Amarillo for the first time this week, and this dive spot was recommended to us for a good burger. It did not disappoint! The bacon cheeseburger was delicious and the burger was so big that I could only eat half for dinner and save the other half for lunch the next day. Love me some Coyote Bluff. Since discovering this place earlier this year this now a go to when I am in Amarillo.

I think three stars is generous. After reading several of the other reviews, there seems to be a common theme of people being off put by some of the resturant's slights/behaviors. This can pass as a general quirk of the establishment, but it did not leave a lasting impression on me. To start, we did not have to wait long to be seated. This may have been due to the time of our arrival (around 5:00ish) since more people came and had a 15-20 minute wait. The first thing asked of us was if we would like a beer or not. Politely, I refused. The menu (full of ketchup stains and wrinkled) was handed to us. The choices were nice but I was just in the mood for a regular cheese burger. The waitress seemed very open and... Loud. In the middle of taking our order she abruptly walked away to say something to a co-worker. I was a little shocked, wondering if she thought we had finished the order. A minute of trying to get her attetion led to her coming back to the table as if nothing happened. Not really sure what was going on, I hesitated to tell her my order, unsure if she was actually listening or not since she was still talking to her co-worker. Slightly exasperated, she turned to me and said, "do you know what you want or not, hun?" I placed my order and prayed to god it would come out right. We did not have to wait long for our food. It was actually a decent time and I didn't feel that it was to long or short (to my surprise it all came out correct). The bugers looked nice. However, as I picked it up, it seemed the whole content of my buger just slipped out. Im not really sure what happened since that has never occured to me before while eating a burger. I tried to reassemble it, flattening it slightly in the hope that this would help. It did not. The result was a slightly annoying, and messy meal. Another quirk that occured was the waitresses' slightly strange obsession with asking every 5 minutes if we wanted a beer or not. I was tempted to give in to her persuasion, just in the hope that this would make her stop, but observing another table and their two beers with a growing three due to her persistent questioning, I decided it most likely would not help. She tried enticing us more by telling us that after the sixth purchase, the seventh beer was free. This may seem like a 'wow!' Moment to some, but for me the thought of six beers on a person who weighed 120 pounds soaking wet, even with a free whole seventh, was not enough to motivate me. In the end, I came to the conclusion that the waitress must just really love beer. The burgers were not good - nor were they bad. They were... Burgers... There is no good way to explain it other than I was left with a '?' Over my head of why the people of Amarillo beleived this to be the best burgers. I felt slightly sorry that this was the highest they had ever known. I must add, to my slightly long review, that halfway through our meal our waitress did happen to sneeze on her hand, proceed to look very intently at it, before wiping it on her jeans. Even in pre-covid era, I still would have still been horrified. If you sit correctly in the resturant, you also have a look into how the drinks are made. Lets just say, I contemplated getting a beer, if not for the fact that I was persitantly asked, then instead for the idea that it at least was sealed with no hands touching the contents that had been inside. All in all- it was average in my mind. I lied to the nice man who had suggested it to me at the hotel, simply smiled and said it had been good. read more

I ordered the mushroom Swiss and he the chili cheeseburger......both were excellent and filling. Service was very fast and friendly.. It does not look fancy but is worth a visit. We ordered a dinner salad, basket of fries, and a single original burger without cheese to split between the two of us. The salad was about what I would have expected from a burger place like this (burger toppings in a bowl, e.g. shredded lettuce?, plus some cherry tomatoes and celery), but I liked it just fine. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the dressing in two little plastic cups on the side. The basket of fries, however, was HUGE--way too much to split between two people; I think splitting four ways would have been more sensible...but for under $4, I really can't complain. The fries were thin, had the skin on, and perhaps were homemade (but we don't know for sure). The burger was simple but delicious, with an abundance of toppings such as shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and pickles. Those toppings, plus the dripping meat juices, made it very messy to eat. And again, this is another item that is worthy of sharing, with a patty that is a full half pound of lean ground beef! Great food, interesting ambiance, and a great value. So glad that we found an article listing this as one of the top things to do while in town. The restaurant looks so bad on the exterior and their sign is so faded that you would miss it if you didn't know where you were going. All of that just adds to the experience though.
