Eaten here for over 15 years and they just get it right every time. My oldest picks Coyote as her birthday dinner spot need I say more.

Prices were right and most my party of 5 liked their food a lot. That's why I give this restaurant 2 stars. Even though I was sitting in that group, I got an entirely different experience. The service was slow, I was served a shrimp salad that had under cooked shrimp(a first for me ever!). And a pile of raw baby Spinach, not cleaned or long stems removed. I swear they opened a celobag of spinach, dumped it in a dish, put three bland squash slices on it an threw a few raw shrimp on top. No seasoning, nothing. Was the chef competing in the lightening round of Chopped? It was pretty horrible. When I asked for the shrimp to be cooked, my meal was gone until everyone else was waiting for the check. Then what did I get back? Slightly more done shrimp, now grayish and translucent. Cold squash and an over abundance of baby raw spinach. No fun. read more

I rarely, if ever, give 5 stars, but the food at Coyote Kitchen is so unique and creative, that 5 stars it is. I had an IEP with my meal from the Appalachian Brewing Company for 4.00. It was delightful. First time here I needed a recommendation so I asked the waitress what was popular. I ordered the Saguro ( check uploaded Menu ) WOW! Was it fantastic. I was told Coyotes had a Caribbean flair and with the coconut rice it certainly was. This place will become a regular for me I can't wait to try everything on their menu. The staff was great plus they have outdoor seating. No reservations, but I was seated right of way. If you ever come to Boone, make it a point to visit Coyotes. read more

We came here based on the reviews. Our waitress was hospitable, but service was SLOWWWWW....even though we weren't in any rush. The food was bland compared to other restaurants of this type. The wait staff attire was inappropriate and left little to the imagination (which my husband didn't mind...though I did). We ordered various dishes to share, such as the Nachos Deluxe, the Saguaro, and the Kingston Salad...all of which were Mehhh...The portions were good, but lacked the flavors that we were expecting given the awesome reviews. Coffee was luke warm at best, which sucked since it was cold and rainy today) We ordered chips and 4 dips which the queso and guac are extra (why when it comes with your choice of 4) the chips weren't warm and needed salt, the queso not warm at all, the cranberry dip was the only dip, guac was ok. We ordered boats (Havana and the jerk chicken one) and AGAIN the food was not hot.. it is served in a cast iron dish how is it not hot? The dish was barely warm and the food was just not good. Anytime I'm in Boone, I HAVE to eat at Coyote Kitchen. The flavors and food are so amazing, it makes me wish that there was a location closer than the 4hrs away that it is. I loved the Caribbean style Mexican food! The food was flavorful and filling. I liked the unique combination of the two cuisines. I ordered the Marley Burrito and liked the sweet potato and plantains that added a different flavor to a normal burrito. Just ok. I really wanted to like this place but it was really lackluster. I wanted the fresh ingredients to be super fresh and the proteins to be fresh cooked and piping hot but that wasn't the case. Everything seemed just barely microwave -hot. The food was fresh but lacked the southwest punch I wanted. The chicken, I imagine, is sitting in a large bowl, precooked and sprinkled on whatever requires chicken. The salsas were disappointing. The mango salsa had a bad flavor and the pineapple was bland. The cranberry and pico were the best among them. Tortilla chips were stale. I had jerk chicken tacos which were ok. Hubby had the cactus boat which was better. I wouldn't come back here. We came on a rainy day for an early-ish dinner and there was already a long wait for bigger tables, but thankfully no wait for our group of 3! Love that it's super family friendly with crayons, free kids meals with an adult entree, and high chairs. The interior is bright, fun, and casual. My husband ordered the Yucatan boat (chorizo, sauteed shrimp) which I absolutely recommend. The chorizo and shrimp were flavorful and came mixed with coconut rice, beans, corn, sour cream, and delicious sauce drizzled all over. I ordered the Barbados boat because I really wanted to try the jerk chicken. The boat came with sweet potatoes, red peppers, mushrooms, broiled cheese, sour cream. The sweet potatoes were the best part of the dish. Sadly, the chicken was bland. I gave most of my plate to the baby because she eats everything... The kids' meal of black beans/rice/plantains was quite tasty and a sizeable portion given that it was FREE with an adult entree. Our service was slightly disjointed. We had to ask for things continously and a few items were incorrect. That being said,the tacos that our server described as street tacos... HUGE! Two and some chips filled us up. We couldn't decided between the chicken and steak so we got one of each and split. The steak were hands down better! Their salsas are unique too. We got the Taos boat, Barbados boat and the Coronado boat. The boats have cheese on them while the bowls don't. I like how you can choose half or full sizes. They're hearty meals with a good mix of flavors. I think the Coronado was my favorite, because it had flavorful salmon in it. Girls weekend to Boone and we agreed to try only local spots so we stopped here for a late lunch. To be pegged as Caribbean themed food is quite the joke. For those that have been to the Caribbean you know the food is big on flavor. The Coyote Kitchen falls way short of this. My friend got the jerk chicken tacos. For the love of God, making something extremely hot doesn't make it jerk. Two of us got the rosemary chicken tacos and neither noticed even a hint of rosemary. $11 for two taco, no chip or salsa was a little steep. My other two friends got half boats and were a little unimpressed as well. A half should be offered as a cheaper appetizer. Service - not great. Our server took our order and then didn't check on us once, or fill our water cups. There was a line out the door and a 40 min wait. We were fine with it because it seemed to have the best reviews in the area. We got the salsa sampler as an app - the salsas were pretty underwhelming. Too fruit-forward and flavors were just meh. I'd recommend the cranberry chipotle out of all of them. I got the shrimp tacos - those were amazing. They added corn, mushrooms, caramelized onions, tomatoes, cheese, and chipotle cream cheese. Super flavorful, creamy, and cheesy. My dining companion got the yucatán boat with coconut rice, black beans, shrimp, chorizo sausage, corn, onions, and broiled jack cheese, plus a giant scoop of chipotle cream cheese. They really nailed it with the cream cheese. This place is not a mexican place - so don't expect mexican flavors. They describe their food as southwest Caribbean soul food. Interpret that as you will. Definitely some flavor combos I've never experienced before. It's a great meal post-hike. Filling and calorie dense. read more

Coyote Kitchen deserves a 5 star review on concept alone. Their Caribbean inspired Boone is by far unique and especially for this area. The first time I went, I wasn't impressed, but that's because I think I was expecting something different - maybe more along the lines of Tex Mex. Anyway, this place is bomb for the food. They are willing to accommodate to requests, too, such as when my friend ordered a burger but asked for it in salad form. They have good beers and their salsas and hot sauces are homemade. The service is a hit or miss, in the sense that sometimes they are just slow AF... but still always kind. There are two reasons this place doesn't have a total 5 star: (1) The ambiance could be improved. It's a small space, so try and make it cozy. String lights on the outdoor patio could do wonders. (2) most importantly... Bring back the Thai coconut curry vinegarette!!! It was truly the best salad dressing I could think of and totally unique. read more

Unfortunately this place as really gone downhill. It was one of my and my husband's favorite restaurants when we were students at app a few years back, but they've gotten new owners and it's just not the same. They took the blackened jalapeño burger off the menu which was my husband's favorite meal. Service is also crazy slow. We ordered takeout today and were told it would be 10-15 mins... we waited about 45. Pricing has also gone up significantly (more than just standard food inflation) and quality just isn't there. While visiting from Central Carolina for our anniversary, we decided to try out this local restaurant. The reviews were debatable, but we were willing to give it a shot. The drink was amazing, and I couldn't get enough of the mango lime salsa. Fried plantains were literally PERFECT, not greasy at all and crispy - which I love! My fiance enjoyed the Marley burrito. He also had a side of rice & beans, but to him the rice was too sweet. I had the Jerk chicken tacos. They would have been better if the chicken was actually warm, but good flavor, nonetheless. Service was - eh. Not much hospitality, lots of college aged kids working, with not that great of personalities. We probably won't be back the next time we are in the area, but i'm glad we tried it because that salsa was literally the best I have ever eaten. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Boone! The Taos boat is my forever favorite. I love the fried plantains! My husband and I try to come here every time we are in town. I'm glad we had the option to eat outside. The staff wore masks (as we did) and we were able to sit at a distance from others. We felt very safe and are grateful for the COVID-19 protocols in place. We ordered the Taos boat and the Baja boat. I was able to only eat half of mine but my husband was able to eat the entire full portion! Their boats - both sizes - are very filling. Coyote Kitchen is one of those places everyone tells you to go to. You'll love it they'll say. It's so good, they'll say. The hype is lofty, and well,..it lives up to the hype for the most part. Famous for their bowls and their boats (one has cheese, the other does not), I was never really impressed with Coyote Kitchen when I've gone with those options. It was always solid, but not spectacular This last trip, I chose to indulge in a burger...and wow. Delicious. The service is strained, mostly due to the crowds that flood in day in and day out, but it's not horrible. For the most part, Coyote Kitchen is a place that is a solid food choice with some off-the-wall offerings that add some excitement to the Boone culinary scene. Worth a shot read more
