I attempted to start service with this company and spoke with a sales representative who scheduled a technician to come to my home. When the technician arrived, he tried to charge me an additional $20 for a window tag. I was under the impression that a security system should already include securing both doors and windows. I decided to give them another chance and called the same representative to reschedule. We set a new installation date for September 9, 2025. I even took the day off work to be available, but no one ever showed up. I contacted CPI and spoke with a manager, who assured me I'd receive a call back from a supervisor and the sales rep--but that never happened. This experience was extremely frustrating. If this is how they treat potential customers, I can only imagine how they treat current ones. I ultimately had to call back just to request a refund for the taxes I had already paid on the equipment. DO NOT go with this company. read more

Not only are their prices higher and contracts longer than anyone else, there are predatory terms buried in your contract. Before signing anything, you should understand that you ABSOLUTELY WILL BE CHARGED 100% of the FULL term of the contract -- no matter what. It doesn't matter if you have a valid reason for disconnecting service, such as moving outside their service area (do you realize they only operate in 4 states? They don't mention this when they tell you that your contract is portable). No matter what the circumstance, they will continue to charge you every month PLUS the cost of equipment (this can be several thousand dollars) and there is nothing you can do to stop them because of the terms of the contract. They can change the amount you pay each month, they can pass fees and upcharges to you from third parties, and there's nothing you can do to terminate. It's all buried deep in the contract that nobody reads. These are not industry standard terms, and they are not made clear when you're signing the contract. Basically, unless you are absolutely 100% sure that you will definitely not have any change of circumstances for the next 5 years, go with another company. read more

Agree with all low reviews. Poor customer service. Had an Appointment today, no one showed up. Called and talked to three different people and no one can help me reschedule. Apparently there is one person in the company i have to speak with and that person is the only person who can reschedule my appointment because they were the original person to schedule the service. Ridiculous. Why am I having to take time and make multiple calls to resolve this and CPI is not calling me. How hard is it to reschedule an appointment that CPI missed?? Crazy. I just want someone to help me reschedule. Customers Service, the rep set up an appointment and my husband took off work and nobody showed. The representative and I do have his name, called to confirm to make sure that someone will be home on March 14 and set the appointment for the March 19th and then when we called the rep blamed it on operations and then when I got to operation, they blamed it on the rep and it's been going on. I was on the phone for over a hour with a leadership person and the leadership person was snappy and said that she would have the Customer Service rep. Call me back that he was on the phone with a customer and still it is now 7:39 pm almost 2 hours later. No phone call. I will go to the news and report the service and file complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We have already paid for the camera and I will not take another day off work for pool service. The only person that knows what they're doing there is man Craig who gave us excellent service a month ago when we had a camera installed on the side of the house with the spotlight. i'm so sick and tired of paying people for bad service and I will tell everybody I know how bad the service is there. A severe thunderstorm caused our CPI alarm to activate. CPI called and we stated that were not at home and believed that the issue was caused by the storm. Three hours later.....We arrived at home to a blaring alarm that had been squaking for hours. CPI callled again about the alarm and motion detected when we entered. That's when we encountered Horrible Henry. He claimed to be the "supervisor", but he was rude, impatient and condescending as we tried to comprehend how/why this was happening. Company has refused to let us cancel our service after 5 months of repeatedly contacting them to do so. They say they will not cancel over the phone and then say they will send an email to carry out the process. The email is never sent and they continue you to charge you monthly. I have repeatedly asked CPI to cancel my service and they will not send me the email to sign to make that possible. I have tried multiple times and spent a lot of time on the phone with them. Also, the system is confusing and I never ended up arming the home; I only used it in order to view the cameras. When the alarm was going off, for no reason, I could not shut it down without canceling the contract, which they made impossible to do since they would not send the email. I ended up ripping the alarm panel off of the wall to make the loud alarm stop and shut it down (it had gone off multiple times starting at 4 am for no reason). read more

CPI called me wanting to re-sign a contract for 39 months and they would give me a $500 merchandise credit to use any way I wanted. I was quoted $279 for an outdoor camera. I told him to go ahead and schedule an appointment to install it. Then talking to my wife, she said if we have a $500 credit why not get two cameras and just pay the $58 difference. I called them back and told him what we wanted to add another camera. He added it to the order. Today our account was charged $299. I called and spoke with **** and he said no only one camera was in the deal. If I have a $500 credit, why can't both be covered, and I pay the $58 out of pocket. Again, they refused to honor this so I told them to come get the cameras and I will be canceling all services and he hung up on me. I have already scheduled service with another company with nice equipment and a lower monthly monitoring cost. I have also disputed the $299 charge with my bank, and they assured me I would be refunded. If someone mentions CPI.... RUN! Their service is horrible as well as the customer service! I have sent a cancellation letter into them THREE TIME that they have lost each time. They are still sending me monthly invoices trying to bill me for monitoring service and for equipment they have already picked up and they say they never picked anything up and I have full video footage from our new security company that clearly shows a CPI van and driver picking it up. I have demanded that they cease and desist calling me and harassing me, but they refuse and continue daily. If this does not immediately stop, I am reaching out to the NC attorney general and the local news stations. read more

The camera has way too narrow a focus to be of use, and is so blurry that I couldn't even identify my family. Don't get into a contract with this company. moved 750 miles away from my family to a new state and town. I purchased a home security system from CPI to alarm my home - video, windows, doors, glass break, carbon monoxide detectors on each floor, heat detector in my garage. Two years ago my home was vandalized at 3 o'clock in the morning. CPI didn't notify the police! I have over $29,000 in damage to my home. CPI so generously gave me a free month as compensation for the failure Fast forward to three years into my agreement with CPI. My carbon monoxide detector went off. I contacted CPI asking why my carbon monoxide detector was going off indicating low batter. Carbon dioxide detector have a 10 year lithium battery! What I was told was I have cheap battery smoke detectors installed less than a foot away from the hard wired smoke detectors in my house. I contacted CPI customer service manager and was told CPI would ALLOW me to purchase what I thought I already had! A manager then contacted me telling me that CPI would give me the carbon monoxide detector. I asked please put it in writing. What I got was an email with a subject line - UPSELL In the body of the email CPI would give me the carbon monoxide detector, but I would need to sign on for an additional 39 months of service. Buyer beware. Several issues. 1. you cannot turn the camera off in your home so privacy is non existent at all times not only when an alarm Is triggered. The camera outside throws an error every couple of days and you have to unplug to reset which is useless if you are out of town. More than a few times I set my alarm to "away" and it did not register that the system was armed on the App. This is concerning because if you are away you don't know if the App is accurate. When we moved, we only continued our service with CPI because we had some time left on our 3-year contract. I did not realize at the time that they were initiating a new 5-year contract. We don't use the system because the system is hard to figure out. The cameras that were supposed to be part of our package do not work if you lose internet. You have to go and set them up again, which is far too complex for me to mess with. We never got the ring door system that was supposed to be part of our agreement. I was told it was because we had no power in the area at the door. I simply went out and got myself a Ring doorbell that is battery-operated and works perfectly. We were with CPI Security years ago. The service was not bad in the beginning. When we had NO security cameras working at all - our office & warehouse went without any security for 5 days because they could not get anyone to service our business. We dealt with a burglary a year prior (with CPI cameras then) and the thieves were successful in stealing checks from office and forging them successfully, stealing a vehicle - and the cameras didn't work. We did not complain then even - just to the local representative at CPI. Then when we dealt with no security system for 5 days then they sent a man from 3 hours away (he drove from Atlanta to Knoxville) he STILL did not fix everything. The system continued to beep nonstop. Very annoying when people try to talk to customer on the phone and the loud beeping has been on for days upon days. I, one of the owners, called CPI and they sent over a docusign to release us from the contract after I complained and had to act terrible for hours and said CPI was in breach of contract for not providing us services we signed up for and they released us from contract with them thankfully. We switched to another security company instantly. They have been taking care of our system since then with ZERO issues. CPI has continued to send collection letters to us. I have invested 15 hours calling CPI to talk to various people with promises this was a mistake, they would fix the paper issue. I even called Michael Cope and spoke with him and he assured me that some lady at CPI would take care of this. NOTHING. I left this "lady" two voicemails, held for over 40 minutes one time - nothing. I run a business, am a mother - WHO HAS TIME FOR THIS incompetency?? While I am writing this review to warn everyone about CPI's scams and lies - I have missed 3 business phone calls bc I am holding on the phone to wait for someone to speak to me at CPI Security. I've been a CPI customers for many years. I recently bought a new home. I also have my current home up for sale. I worked with an inside salesperson at CPI that was outstanding. When I got ready to have the new alarm system installed, CPI management required 100% payment upfront. As a long time and current customer, I was shocked at this heavy-handed business model. The system was to be installed in two days, and The sales rep came back after I refused to pay upfront and said will take 50% down. As I told the sales rep, I pay for nothing upfront! That's the first red flag when dealing with a vendor. They also inform me, my system in my current house I'm selling - if the buyers turned it on the alarm, I still would have to pay 75% of my outstanding contract. Double payment for the next year?? We've been with CPI for over 20 years...and every passing year gives me more and more reason to find someone new. Today may have been the last straw...I had an appt for them to replace doorbell camera next week. I was texted asking if they could come today instead of next week. Fine. They said they would text me to let me know the tech was on the way. I never got a text. A man showed up ... showed no ID and I had to ask his name. There was a CPI truck but still I was afraid. I said they were supposed to let me know who was coming. He didn't seem to acknowledge that. He said he would be quick as he just needed to replace the doorbell camera. He left quickly and after leaving I found that the router in my network closet was no longer mounted to the wall...it was just hanging, it had been ripped off the wall so now we'll need to patch the mess he left there. I found a mess of parts on the front porch and also found that my doorbell camera works..but the doorbell does NOT. I called customer support who said it was not a big deal..I looked under the doorbell cover in my house and there were wires hanging out all over the place. What a mess... looks dangerous... customer support is not sympathetic at all.. I asked for some compensation for this poor experience... requesting that the $100 I paid for this doorbell be refunded for my troubles and long standing relationship with CPI...AND ALSO because now I need to take time off of work for them to come and fix what they did wrong in the first place. The smart alec on the phone said that they would take put the old doorbell back on if that's what I wanted... Now I am hostage to my phone waiting to see if they can get someone here tomorrow...and if not..I'm just missing time from work. Either way I lose as I have to cancel plans I had tomorrow with family and still may need to lose $ for missing work when ever they get their butts out here to fix what the did wrong! 20+ years with CPI and the more time you spend with them..the worse the service gets. Last week I found ONE SMART NICE PERSON to help with a billing issue ON THE CPI SIDE... I realize now..that was just a fluke... I would not recommend CPI to my worst enemy. I also found thrown on my porch a card with my doorbell camera MAC address and type of camera. From there I looked up the device on the internet and found it's wired backwards. We were very happy with the services provided UNTIL WE DECIDED TO MOVE and discontinue the service. I called to cancel service and was sent an agreement to sign. I spoke with several different people on different occasions to verify what my remaining charges would be for both equipment and service. I got a differe t answer every time but basically was told I would have around $36 ,for the equipment balance and that the next charge on my credit card would be my final bill. 3 months later they were still billing my credit card for the monthly service. THEN I received a paper statement for almost $200 for the equipment plus 5 MONTHS service remaining on my 5 YEAR CONTRACT. I called to clarify and was very rudely told that I could not speak to a supervisor and that I would have to pay this even though on at least 4 previous calls to CPI no one ever admitted to this being the remaining balance. I asked for a supervisor to call me back and 2 weeks later, I have not received a call. PLEASE BEWARE AND READ THE CONTRACT THAT YOU SIGN, although it does not seem to make a difference as they give conflicting information every time you call and in the end, I am sure I'm going to have to pay ...or waste more hours on the phone with no results. Since January, I have been attempting to get a video door lock installed. CPI says that I have to get a missing part from the builder. Yet, four CPI employees stated that they would get the part for me. Like others, they do not return phone calls or emails. They are "all over" you to buy their products and services, however, they walk away after that. In this case, they stated that I did not buy the door lock from them. While the state that I didn't pay for the door lock, it was part of a package that included the door lock and a video camera that also was never installed. Went up the chain and spoke to a manager who promised to get everything resolved, they didn't. They love their long term contracts, but have no interest in up their end of those contracts. Meaning, making their systems work. Actually had one occasion where the alarm went off at 3am (not because of an intruder, because of a faulty door sensor) and the CPI person asked for my password, I couldn't remember it being 3am and all. She shut the system off anyway. Yikes! Guess if you're an intruder, just simply say you don't remember the password and you're good to go. Purchase literally any other system. Unfortunately, cannot recommend CPI security system. The security system did not work correctly most of the time. We had multiple sensors that did not work correctly, CPI worker claimed to have fixed. Technical support failed to fix these sensors, as well as set up the remote we had for the security system. Upon moving, we attempted to cancel the membership. They will not allow us to cancel without paying over $1,000. They claimed there was an agreement for 34 month lease. I had them send the paperwork - which had never been signed by myself or CPI staff. I tried to end my contract after the CEO made racist comments but could not because of their contracts. I eventually sold that home and purchased another that came wired as a smart home so I no longer needed cpi. They paused the account then automatically started billing me with no warning. Cpi does not have an early termination provision in their contracts. Now I have to pay for the 6 months they paused it, plus the additional contract. We've been a customer for many years but when you terminate the contract early, they aren't forthcoming when late fees kick in. We got our statement, printed 7/27, and call to pay on 8/19 and had late fees. CPI should be more forthcoming in their bills on how they do business. read more

This company has the potential to be really good, however if you are not due to renew your contract they have zero interest in assisting you when it comes to upgrading your system. Absolutely inflated costs for the equipment and than they also want to increase your monthly premium. See the value in your current customers and work with them when they want to upgrade and you will not see them moving to another company when their contracts are up. They were awesome when I was searching for a security company, and then we're horrible to deal with until they wanted me to renew my contract and than they were so willing to work with me. We recently sold our home with CPI service. CPI actually called me two days after selling our house because the new owners wanted to get service. They sent us documents through DocuSign which we completed to disconnect service and allow them to give new service to the new owners immediately after getting the DocuSign email. After reviewing my bank statement recently, I noticed they started billing my bank account again for service. For three months they have been billing in fact. I called customer service and after waiting on the phone for a hour, the only agreement was they would disconnect service effective today. What a joke of a company. Do not use them if at all possible, you have other options, which service, equipment, and pricing are much better. read more

CPI is the worst business I have ever dealt with in 40 years of computer installations and business consolation. I absolutely refused to pay any $53.49 a month or whatever their monthly fee is and have them take it out of my checking account and provide NO STATEMENT EVER. We negotiated through their salesman to pay 6 months for some figure like $356.34 (not sure of the exact amount). We paid it and assumed that these these CPI employees were component and knew what other CPI Security were doing and had some form of competent management. After 6 months of CPI Harassment to my wife and I and withdrawing money out of my checking and credit card that theses CPI folks had no ability to explain. with in weeks after agreeing with CPI for a 6 month payment, we were repeatedly harassed CPI employs that we needed to pay the $347.34 (another figure). We have this happen on about 4 occasions and every single time the $327.87 was different with each CPI genius. They with one payment from my checking, unauthorized and tried to charge other payments to my credit card. I am waiting for when January 2023 to see how CPI is going to respond to the agreement that we came to in July 2022. These folks continually harassed us about money, two seniors in our 70s. Perhaps if we, CPI customers could get their issues as a group and find someone to legally stand up for us perhaps we could get what we understood CPI promised and what is normal and reasonable. I have continually kept there North Carolina State Attorney Generals Office, Consumer Complaint Division with all of the Issues my wife and I have encountered. We called CPI Security after my wife heard a tapping on our back door one night I was away for business. Thank goodness nothing came of it, but we didn't want to chance it again. We had ADT before, and we kept dragging our feet on a system for our new home. Bad idea. With the decision finally made, we wanted to go with someone more local that could service it quickly and knew our local police department. The sales process with CPI was easy, and they expedited our order so we had a technician there the next day, which put my wife at ease. The install process was smooth. No messes, and everything worked as we expected afterwards. The tech showed us how to control the system from our phone or computer, set up automated rules, etc. A lot of smart features with this system, and the app is a huge benefit versus just a key fob with other systems. CPI installed cameras on the front of my home and on the back, and we chose to get video recording so we could keep an eye on anyone poking around our property again. That has already been helpful when a neighbor reported a vehicle break-in, and we were able to share a recording of someone walking up the street a few minutes before. We've had a few issues with our garage door opener and one of the door contacts. Each time we had a service call, the phone support was helpful, and didn't give me the run around when it came to fixing the issue. They sent a professional out promptly to fix it. Definitely makes me glad I went with a pro install service since our friends have had nightmares trying to fix similar issues with their Simplisafe system. Definitely worth a few extra $ per month to have a service plan. Overall a great experience in our first year with the system. Thanks CPI! read more

The Company rep that sold us this system assured us that if at some point we wanted to cancel the monthly monitoring service $50/month), our cameras would still be functional. When I recently called to see if CPI could do something about this very pricey monthly monitoring fee, they said they could save me about $3 a month. When I said I was considering canceling the monitoring service, I was told the cameras would be deactivated. Was I given the wrong information unintentionally, or was this a bait and switch? I've been member for 6 years so you would think they would give you more consideration the amount of money I've paid and not even had to use Thankfully because there service is horrible. They are fine and friendly with less hold time if you are updating or renewing your service but if not and want to pay month to month after your contract they will jack up the prices. Now I want to get the Ring and avoid these high monthly charges since I'm literally home everyday now. It has been a entire week now of waiting on the phone getting someone on the line after ridiculous wait times and then they have transfer me somewhere else, which that team isn't there or I have to wait in another queque for 2 more hours. Please don't let the comments from CPI on people's reviews give you warm and fuzzies they actually attempt to solve the problem. They do not and customer service team is horrible to deal with. They make it appear they care and then do not resolve the issue. I had to cancel my service because I moved to another state for work where CPI does not service. They charged me $1k to cancel. I don't understand how I am penalized for them not being able to service my area. Not to mention most the time my system has issues with the security camera going out. This is horrible customers service. At the time I signed my contract I asked about how their moving package works. They told me not to worry since they will install a new system wherever I move to. They failed to mention they are not nationwide. They also did not say anything about a five year contract until the system was already installed. Oh I should also mention I relocated out of state for work to bring my husband closer to PTSD and TBI treatment facility. He is a combat vet. CPI didn't care. Contacted CPI as requested by them and they dropped it to $800. Still not happy. Think of all the contracts you will lose by comments like mine. This is called reputation impact something you all do not understand. It leads to long term losses from damage to your brand and reputation. We have been CPI customers since before I kept records, but approximately 15 years. We really had no problems with their installation or alarm monitoring services until our system failed about a year and a half ago. Somehow, I let them talk me into a new system. The new system was ok, but our old system was just as ok. Sure, there were new bells and whistles, but I really didn't want them. But we signed a contract. Give us one star for that stupidity. A year later, we decided we were moving. Having been loyal customers for so long, I figured CPI would love to keep our business and move our system to the new home. Boy was I wrong. They wanted to charge us nearly $500 to get a new system and of course keep us on contract. They later waffled on that and wanted to knock it down to about $200, but by that time the damage was done: I wasn't going with CPI even if I had to pay out the rest of my contract. So that's what we're doing; we went with Vivint. They don't have contracts, so I don't feel like I'm in a stranglehold by the company. CPI is in the rear view and I say good riddance. read more
