I am a bit confused on some of the ratings here, and I wonder if it is some of the locals trying to avoid drawing attention to this gem! Have been here now a few times for takeout as well as for seated dining. Every time the food has been excellent, but for this review, I'll write about our latest in-person experience. In a summer Thursday, our family had a table for seven as we went for our son's birthday and had a combination of broiled seafood, steak, sides, steamed seafood, salads, and cocktails. Crab stuffed-mushrooms, blue crab, snow crab, lobster tails, filet mignon, crab cakes, gulf shrimp. All cooked perfectly. The cocktail variety was vast and for the ~12 or so that we enjoyed around the table, each got great reviews, but the michelada may have been of the best I've ever had. Regarding the atmosphere, there are essentially three sections of the building, the bar room area, the dining area, and the market/kitchen. The bar room has live music most nights, and if you are in the dining area, it reaches you at just the right volume. Service is not slow, but definitely paced at a lesser speed than the restaurants on coastal highway for sure; if you are with good company, it works out nicely! I'm shocked by the rating as I will have to say that this place made by far the best tasting Mahi Mahi Sandwich I ever had and I will return to get it again. My wife had the cheesesteak rolls and she loved them. I'm a food critic so this place gets 5 stars from me. Also, I want to note that their cocktail sauce is awesome. The Crab Barn is a hidden gem in Long Neck. Obviously the locals know it well. We were down for long weekend, decided to have all the crabs you can eat. The Crab Barn was close so we gave it a try. For April the local crabs were heavy, fat and sweet. Their spice blend is a perfect mix of old bays, salt and pepper flakes. The cream of crab soup was very good. The homemade hush puppies are served with a savory honey butter and the steamed Shrimp were prepared perfectly, served with their own cocktail sauce. We enjoyed it so much we took a friend back on Friday. Steamed Crabs, Bar B q Ribs and Flounder again were very good. So much so, we were back again Saturday. Maryland Crab Soup, my personal favorite, soft shell crab sandwich and flounder sandwiches. Again all were excellent. Ashley and the rest of the staff are great. They know the menu and are glad you're there. The singer Thursday night was very good. 70's, 80's with a few contemporary songs thrown in. The DJ Friday night was very entertaining. Particularly when he was dancing to Elvis with one of the locals. This is a classic Lower Slower Delaware treat. The locals of which there were many seemed to appreciate we were there. Even though the name says crab barn they stop steaming crabs early. We arrived at 7:15 it took forever to get our drinks and when we wanted to order crabs at 8:03, we were told that they stopped steaming crabs at 8:00. I pointed out that we had been waiting on our drinks for over 30 minutes. Then the story changed to they stopped steaming crabs at 7:00. It doesn't mention that on their website or menus. My dad and I ordered crab cakes ($19.95), they are described as air fried, let's just say these crab cakes were air dried, absolutely terrible, dry there was more corn meal on them then my grandmothers puts in her corn bread!! My dad and I sent back both of our CC meals, we then both ordered prime rib ($16.95) med rare (could a meat dish be any better?) we were asked to pick 2 sides, chose corn on the Cobb and a baked potato. We finally got our Prime rib as everyone else had their meal! With the waitress still at the table I cut into my PR and what do you know it was well done! My father did the same, disgusted and starving he ate some of the PR drenched in hot sauce! The waitress didn't have time to even walk away from the table as I gave my PR right back to her because it looked like shoe leather! NOT one time did a manager or owner come to our table! All 4 meals were taken off the check, oh geeee thanks! Here's a list of some other terrible things we experienced; jumbo scallops not so jumble maybe the size of a quarter and you get 4 for the price of $17.95 holy cow, baked potato dry and cold, corn on the cobb cold and hard! Update as of 12:15pm the next day; I reached out to the restaurant. Kim (manager of the kitchen) answered the phone I began to tell her about our experience. While explaining my experience she cut me off and said what can I do to make this better. I found out she was in fact there last night while all of our meals were getting sent back. She stated take out was too busy to even acknowledge the issue! She never once came out to our table and said what can I do to make this right! She never took the initiative to give us a meal we deserved after sending back 4 meals! To the kitchen MGR. KIM, SHAME ON YOU for being too busy in "take out" to even acknowledge the horrific food your kitchen was sending out! She asked me what she could do while on the phone, I said you could have made an appearance at our table last night and asked what you could do since you were in the kitchen when all this was taking place! Crab house, you are lucky you're out in Long neck because you'd never make it out on coastal hwy! Let's just say myself and my family WONT BE BACK! The environment could surely use some designing to help with the acoustics as it was loud. My parents moved to the area this week and we've been checking out the local restaurant and bar scene. Decided to have an early dinner here Sunday before we headed out and we are so glad we did. Such a cool little neighborhood spot. We witnessed them greet 3 different regulars by name in the hour and a half we were there. Service is friendly and quick and the food was awesome. We enjoyed steamers and bacon wrapped scallops to start and my mom and I both had snow crab legs, my dad had chicken Chesapeake and my brother had a seafood scampi. All of it was delicious and we did not leave hungry. As a bonus surprise they had 2 brothers there playing live classic rock and country on guitar and they were excellent! Allman Brothers, CCR, Bob Segar, Zack Brown Band, etc. and the music was not too loud that you can't even speak even though it's not a big place. My family waited until the offseason to try the Crab Barn. The food was ok. I was surprised to hear they air fried everything. You could tell unfortunately. My wife thought that the crab cake was ok for a diner, but not for their prices. I asked for the market price Dozen Blue Crab and she said they were from New Orleans but most folks won't pay $90 for a dozen. My father in law had a very long hair in the Cole slaw and we politely told the server. I honestly hate when people complain. They said sorry but was nothing removed from the bill. The best beer they can muster is Dogfish 60 minute which is a solid beer but everything else was the worst after being told every bottle you can imagine. I have no problem with the amount of money if I was getting a worthy amount of food. $10 for kids pasta and marinara, it was at most a quarter of a box of pasta and a cup of sauce. $19 for 5 scallops wrapped in bacon, scallops weren't bay scallop small, but they were small. They were very tasty. Got queen cut prime rib, $25, not great, too much fat and way too salty. Prime rib is supposed to be cooked as a roast and a slice is served, this was clearly cooked as a steak. Not what we wanted. $38 for 2 snow crab clusters, which were OK. Sides were good, except for green beans which tasted as if they spilt the salt. If I could give 0 stars, I would. We called around 11:30 to place 4 orders for 1 pm. One of us picked up their order. Then the other three of us arrived 2 minutes later at 1:01. One cousin ordered a dozen larges, which we were told was all they had. So we ordered another two dozen mediums. When we arrived here we were told that they are out of larges and they haven't started cooking the three dozen mediums for us. It is now 1:21 and we are told us it will another 20 minutes. They told us that.... 20 minutes ago!! They tried to explain the delay by saying that the cook is eighteen and never worked in a kitchen...... huh?! So if that is the case doesn't that mean one of the other three employees should be training him?! UPDATE: At 1:40 we were told that they did not have the steamer hooked up correctly so our crabs are not ready. Huh? We arrived two minutes after one of our other family members...... how were their crabs cooked and ours somehow aren't after 40 minutes?! It's 1:40 and we are all starving, we are getting angry calls from our other family members, so we asked for our money back. They tell us that they don't know how to put the money back on our card and offer us a gift card. A gift card!!!! We have waited 45 minutes for our crabs and you think we will come back??!!! Two of us got our cash back. The thirds order was over $100 and they were told they do not have enough cash to refund them. So we were asked for a phone number and they will give us a call when they have enough cash to refund the order. The owner showed up between 1:20 and 1:40. Had to send hamburger back asked for med rare came out almost well and very greasy. My boyfriend and I were there this past Sunday for dinner. I started with the crab soup...pretty dang good, cream base with lump crabmeat. Not too overly thick and crab was good, seasoned well and I sprinkled a bit of old bay on top. Onto dinner, we both had the stuffed flounder with crabmeat. It was delicious, one of the best I've ever had and I've ordered quite a few in my day. The flounder was thick and moist, the crabmeat stuffing was so creamy and very flavorful. The potato was cooked perfect as well, the corn on cob was just okay, however, it is not in season here., probably came from down south, not much flavor. 0 stars. Do not waste your time for steamed crabs. Not only were they not seasoned AT ALL, the 4 dozen medium crabs we ordered were almost all small and barely legal sized crabs. I even broke the tape measure out and they were BARELY 5 inches. Not only that but they changed the crab prices halfway through the day and overcharged me causing me to go back for a refund. When I asked for a refund she said "oh they changed the prices halfway through the day" and I started to say "well you are going to honor the price you quoted me correct?" And she screamed at me to calm down. Sadly will not be going back.. we had high hopes for this place but unfortunately that is not how the meal went for us. Food was incredibly bland and not served hot. When asked to reheat it seems they might have tried to microwave things (but of course not seeing it being prepared we have no way to know). The air fryer must go - who ever in their right mind thought this was a good idea should not be in the food service business. Fries and shrimp were not very crispy and again food temperature was a huge issue. We were informed that the manager made a small concession on two of our entrees but said manager was not seen nor heard from. If this was my business I would have apologized in person. We visted this restaurant yesterday evening for dinner for the first and last time. For appetizer we ordered peel and eat shrimp. No complaints, shrimp and cocktail sauce was fine. My son got the prime rib done medium, with corn on the cob and pasta salad. The prime rib was completely tasteless, overcooked and tough. Literally not one shred of seasoning on it. The corn was mediocure at best, very surprising since DE has some great corn of the cob offerings. The pasta salad was fine. I ordered the chicken breast with imperial sauce cole slaw and cucumber and onion salad. The chicken breast were dry and I what I thought was imperial sauce, which I did ask the server before ordering, was supposed to be crab imperial, was in fact not, I tasted no crab meat at all and the sauce was tasteless also. The cole slaw was probably the worst I've ever had, had a very very strange after taste, inedible it was. The cucumber and onion salad had a very similar after tast to the cole slaw. Also indedible. My husband order the lobster tails with french fries and cole slaw. We, forget the cole slaw, he said the lobster tails were good, but the french fries had a old, freezer burnt taste to them, which he didn't eat. $ 125/w tip, for a tasteless, nasty meal. This place has the best tasting food, the waitresses have the kindest personality's. The people giving this restaurant one star are cry babies and gave this establishment no chance to rectify whatever issue or problem they may of had. I go here often and they 100% will rectify any problems or issues you may ever have on any given day, if given the chance. They are a fairly new establishment and are still working out the kinks. Stop giving them one star ratings because of your crybaby issues. Give them a chance first to rectify any problem you may have. At least give them a chance. Went here for the first time ,this is a fairly new restaurant and very nice inside ,clean with a friendly wait and bar staff. Let's start with the soup I had cream of crab and I would return just for the soup it was loaded with lump crab , the crab balls we're good but a little dry. I also had the stuffed flounder which was good. Do not order the French Fry's ( cardboard) go with the baked potato. Anything that should be fried are instead air fried which if not coated with some form of oil will be dry. Not sure why they don't fry but they are definitely not gonna get the tastiest results and isn't that the reason we go out to eat. If I want healthy I'll order a salad. I usually do not write restaurant reviews but I had to do this one. Went there with a party of 5 on Saturday night. My soup came out cold and I had to send it back. My crab cake sandwich was mostly corn meal and I had to smother it with tarter sauce. They forgot my chips. 3 in our party had French fries which were not cooked. The server said they were air fried. My son said his burger had no taste. The scallops were under cooked. The server said we should give them another chance. I will definitely not return. read more

Went with my husband and two teenagers. Loved the setting walking in. Tables are not crowded on top of each other. Our waitress was extremely friendly and very attentive. The kids had the wings and chicken sandwiches which they loved. My husband and I had the Steam Pot special which included 3 crabs, 12 clams, half a pound of shrimp and 2 sides. It was delicious!! I had a frozen margarita as well and it was excellent. My daughter had the chocolate cake for dessert and ate every bite. We truly enjoyed the food and the dining experience! The chairs are comfortable to spend the time and crack some crabs! And on top of it the price of everything was very reasonable which is great when you are on vacation eating out constantly. They said they've only been open for 4 weeks. Usually restaurants get even better with time so we are hoping this restaurant is around for the long haul! I've never had to write a review for a restaurant until tonight. Initially, this place seemed very welcoming and nice on the outside. Very clean. However, the service here does not reflect the restaurant's appearance. There was an initial mixup; with no hostess attending the front at all and taking names, a table who had arrived after us was almost seated before us; however, we did speak up and thought everything was fine... Seems like the staff took offense, however. Our waitress for the night, Tamara, was snippy and sarcastic. Two of our party members had ordered soup, however a table seated five minutes after us were receiving their soups before us; THEN a table seated five minutes after said table received their soups. We flagged down our waitress to ask if the soups were coming, and were responded with a very curt, "Yes, they're coming. I don't understand what you're asking," with unnecessary rude looks and tone of voice. Regardless of if you are stressed or upset that we rightfully spoke up that we were to be seated first, there's no need to be petty and childish. If the soup was simply forgotten, the situation could have been remedied with a simple "Oh yes, it'll be coming soon," without unnecessary theatrics. What a way to ensure people will leave after receiving drinks and never come back. Reflects really well on your business. read more
