My family and I have eaten here before, which is why tonight's experience was so disappointing. The first red flag was my drink. It arrived super late but before the food, and it was absolutely disgusting. I couldn't even drink it because it tasted so bad. Unfortunately, the food wasn't any better. Visited this place on today with my kids and I must say I enjoyed my experience. We were seated immediately (it wasn't crowded), our waitress (Lay) came and took our drink orders and when she returned took our orders. The food arrived rather quickly and it came out hot. The experience started off rocky but got better with our service. The "hostess", if you could call her that, was lazy and rude. We called and made a reservation and arrived a few minutes early. She was on the phone at the time, but offered no acknowledgement of our presence. No smile, wave, eye contact, nothing at all. When she was finished with the call, we asked if we could sit at the bar while waiting for our table in a half empty restaurant. We asked if she would let us know when our table was ready. She didn't. While seated at the bar for about 15 minutes my fiancé went to the hostess and asked about our table, which still wasn't ready for some reason. Another drink and another 10 minutes my fiancé went up again and asked. She was told the table was and had been ready for some time. When asked why she didn't let us know this, she said its not what they do, even though we asked about this at our arrival and we were sitting only 20 feet from her. Now, on to the good! Our bartender was lovely. Our waitress was fantastic! She was 100% on the ball and quite engaging. She was prompt and courteous and chatted with us while we were waiting for our food. She took our experience from a 2 to a 7! The food was delicious. When it was time to check out, I asked to speak to the manager. The manager came while our waitress was at our table. We told the manager of our experience and then praised our waitress for her work ethic and attitude because she truly was wonderful. Without her service, even with the food being as good as it was, this place would have gotten a 1.5-2 star rating. Service, especially poor service and an attitude can ruin a business no matter how good the food is. It's been over a month since our visit and I can't recall our waitresses name with certainty, but I believe it was Maya. I love seafood and I'd heard amazing things about Crab Du Jour so I wanted to find out for myself how it was. It's a winner. I built my own combo and selected the Du Jour sauce. No regrets. Be aware that you have to purchase some things a la carte here so it can be pricey, but the food is good. The service was also great. The drinks are good but also super strong so don't expect to order too many unless you have a liver made of steel and a high tolerance for alcohol. The afternoon that I went in, there were several full tables of big parties enjoying their meals. The host was pleasant and efficient, as well as the cashier. No complaints with the service. Once home, I grabbed my salt shaker before I sat down to eat and quickly realized I wouldn't need it--the sauce was more flavorful than I was expecting. If you're salt-sensitive, the sauce I selected is NOT for you. I enjoyed it because I think shellfish needs it. And I would rather have salty-ish food than bland food. Excellent customer service with a minimal wait time for a Saturday afternoon. I did an online order for pick up at the restaurant. Online navigation is seemless and not hard to use. Ambiance is pretty cool with quiet booths as well as long tables for large parties. Music played over the loud speakers, and they have live music, aka karaoke, on Fridays. My waitress was so sweet as I made a mistake on the online order, and I forgot to hit submit. Fault was all mine. She quickly helped to replicate the order, which was ready piping hot in 15 minutes. Ordered the Combo A, which is half pound of shrimp with heads off, half pound of black mussels, half snow crab. Added half pound of sausage, 2 eggs, and had the du jour special sauce with a medium spice level. Could have ordered the hot. Very Messy but Great Meal Rainy (we desperately needed that), Cool Fall Day or at least after all those days of 90F plus, something in the '70's was Cool. My wife is not a Seafood Fan. We normally go out for brunch or lunch after Church of Sunday but she opted out so she could watch the Panther's game. In the mean time, she told me if I wanted to grab whatever I wanted for lunch. I jumped at it and Seafood hear I came. Originally went to the Crafty Crab over at J.M. Keynes but when I got there, I found I had misread their opening time as 11:00 am and it was really 12:00 noon. Second Choice was Crab Du Jour which was close and I got there Just after 11:30 am which is when they open. Walked in and was immediately seated. Staff is very good, prompt and professional and helpful as well. Order tea and it was out in less than a minute. Very comprehensive menu and I finally narrowed it down to either a pound of headless Shrimp or a pound of Dungeness Crabs. Chose the Shrimp but will definitely try the Crab the next time. Your order is delivered to your table in an inflated bag. The bag is inflated because the steam from cooking inflates the bag and at the same time, makes sure that the meal is still moist. The basic sauce is a Garlic Butter which you customize to certain style and heat levels. I chose the Lemon Pepper and Medium heat which turned out perfect. Good flavor and just the right amount of heat. Needless to say, the food is swimming in the Garlic Butter Sauce and very messy. When they deliver the bag to you, there is also a second bucket for the empty bag, a bib, two disposable gloves which are basically useless and a set of three towelettes. You empty your food from the bag into you metal dish and dig in. For Shrimp at least where you have to shell, the gloves are useless because your don't have enough feel to properly shell the shrimp. Alcohol towettes are a start but in the end, you have to go to the bathroom to wash your hands. Bib on the other hand is a necessity. The meal consisted of a pound of headless Shrimp, Corn on the Cob and New Red Potatoes. Shrimp were great and the garlic/butter/lemon/pepper Sauce was great and the medium heat gave the perfect level of heat to the dish. Very messy but well worth the cleanup on Aisle 13. More than one person stopped to ensure we were being taken care of before he even had a chance to get back with our drinks. Calamari and mozzarella sticks for appetizers. My husband and kids liked the calamari, I did not. Both the calamari and mozzarella sticks tasted like they were from boxes. Entrees consisted of chicken tenders (yay! since my daughter doesn't eat seafood), seafood gumbo (listed as an appetizer) and lobster, shrimp, crab legs boil. I wasn't impressed with the gumbo but it wasn't bad. Not a lot of places you can go to in university area and get seafood gumbo. Hubby loved his boil. Comes with bib! Overall experience was good but felt as though there are still some kinks to work out being a new restaurant. These things were acknowledged and apologies were made. My mom is legally blind in one eye, on 5/31/23 she fell and broke her leg and just started walking, today was her first time out to a restaurant in 2024 and she used her assisted walking device rather than her wheelchair. He went on to say we may leave and that he was under no obligation to seat us. Our eyes widened, and Karl continued the conversation as he walked away telling the host to seat another party of three that arrived twenty minutes after I arrived. Did he just order you to go, the party asked me. Yes, I replied. I asked Karl if he could give me the owner's or senior management's contact details. Karl claimed to be the proprietor.
