Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Amarillo
Bruce K.

Are you familiar with the term "boondocks"? I've heard it's a Filipino word that means "remote mountain" and like so many other words, it's been coopted into the English language. In English, it means "remote" as in "I've been camping out in the boondocks." Following so far? Because the RVers have taken it one further and it's called "Crackerdocking" and it means "spending the night in a Cracker Barrel parking lot." I was still stuffed from dinner and I was on my way before they opened so I did not have a chance to eat here on this visit. Next time, Cracker Barrel. Next time. Inside, the store side was well stocked and tidy. The men's room was clean. And the young lady who rang up my candy purchase (gotta have dessert!) was very nice. This is my absolute favorite spot for breakfast! Cracker Barrel has its own unique charm--cozy atmosphere and tasty home-style food. Service is always quick, and everyone's really nice. Also love browsing the little store at the entrance; it's full of cool stuff and fun gifts. Makes the whole visit even better. Easy five stars!

The food at Cracker Barrel was good overall, but the service could use some improvement. I asked for my eggs over easy, but they came out over medium. I also had to wait a bit longer than expected for my meal, and my water was never refilled. The flavors were nice, so I did enjoy the food itself--I just think a little more attentiveness from the staff would have made the experience much better.

The smallest biscuit I've ever seen!

I am a frequent CB customer. I frequent the chain from Dallas to Chicago. This one in Amarillo is the most disappointing of all the ones I've been to. (Over 7 locations). I ordered the lunch turkey. What happened to the portions??? My friend had a burger. It was so over cooked and thin with about 10 half sized steak fries. The plate was half empty. The service was great, as usual but the food gets a D+.

Always love my Cracker Barrel! I was craving fried Chicken so I came by here and grabbed some. It didn't disappoint! Though I can tell a change it the quality of the food in the last couple of years. It used to be much better, but it's still good

Brain was the person who assisted with our order. He was funny, kind, helpful, and attentive. Our food came out hot and was perfectly prepared according to how we ordered it. Thanks to Brian, as we passed through Amarillo, TX, our visit was a little more pleasant. Great job Brian from Jersey.

Where do I start? How do I start? This place doesn't deserve…read moreany rating. Service is not even to basic standard. We were here on our way to dallas from ABQ. Based on the reviews we wanted to try the fusion food. We went in around 8:30pm We ordered Mango Cart for myself and Drunken Noodles for kids (No spice level) Curry Chicken with Fried Rice and Lo mein. While we waited for food, my SO ordered a Ginger cocktail. Waitress forgot about it. We had to remind her and she did not even remember what we ordered. They were so busy they had only 2 other tables to handle. Other waitress with glasses is on phone or her back turned against the tables. Cocktail was way too sweet and not even a hint of ginger, it was definitely not worth the 15$. The price is not even listed on menu. We got our first food item at 9:15pm when we requested that our kids were hungry and sleepy, 45 mins after we got in and ordered. Waitress said they were busy with take out, I guess people spending time to visit restaurant are not important. Couple more mins and we were ready to pay for drinks and walkout. Curry Chicken came first and rice came after 5 minutes and waitress did not even think about giving us knives when I ordered chicken which needs knives and took us a while to get her attention as she had her backs turned towards the wall. The waitress kept walking away and sitting down with another couple at a table. Lo mein was made with Ramen noodles. One more thing to note here, the chef keeps walking out of kitchen with food and doesn't even wear and hair net, so dont be alarmed if you find hair in your food If you value your time and mental peace, dont go eat here.

If you are looking for white tablecloths, subtle lighting, or a quiet place to whisper sweet…read morenothings, keep driving past Coyote Bluff Cafe (often locally called the "Coyote Bluu" or simply "The Bluff") in Amarillo, Texas. But if your idea of culinary heaven involves a grease-stained paper liner, an old-school Texas roadhouse vibe, and a burger that requires structural support, you have arrived at the right place. Nestled just a few blocks off Interstate 40 in a historic, diminutive former dance hall moved wholesale from neighboring Claude, Texas, Coyote Bluff is tiny. With only about 12 tables packed into its 1,000 square feet, the atmosphere is alive with a loud, friendly hum, a dirt parking lot, and a vintage bathtub floating full of ice and cold beer bottles. The place is amazing!!!! The unique steaming process is really amazing. You have to try the chili cheese fries to go with it. The menu keeps its focus tight, centering around half-pound patties of lean Texas ground beef cooked to order. While traditional options like the Hickory Burger and the Green Chili Cheese Burger are stellar, the undisputed heavyweight titleholder here is the legendary Burger from Hell. I had to try it, my wife opted for the Chicken Fried Steak. Many approach the "Hell Burger" with great trepidation, expecting it to be more of a gimmick built strictly on painful, mouth-numbing heat. Instead, it offers a beautifully layered flavor profile. The beef patty with Tabasco and their proprietary "Coyote Hell Sauce," then smothers it in gooey melted cheese, grilled onions, and fresh, vibrant sautéed jalapeños. It arrived on a toasted onion bun, it lands a solid 7 out of 10 on the heat scale. But rather than scorching your palate, it wraps it in a vinegary, spicy, deeply savory warmth. This place also serves up classic, heavy-hitting Texas roadhouse appetizers: Each of these are amazing sides and are worth of mentioning, First the Cheese Fries with Green Chiles, which I had with my burger and my wife had with her Chicken fried steak, it is served on a massive aluminum platter, these fresh-cut fries are heavily blanketed in melted cheese and mild green chiles. They are a mandatory companion to the burgers.  Other appetizers worth of note, are the Texas Red Chili & Green Chili Stew: The thick, hearty green chili stew is packed with meat and mild green peppers, offering a wonderful warming comfort, especially during cool Panhandle days.  and any of the Fried options ranging from baskets of battered fried pickles, garlic mushrooms, and stuffed jalapeños. Because everything is cooked to order and the dining room is incredibly compact, expect a wait during lunch rushes or weekends. However, that time spent waiting in the dirt lot among locals and passing road-trippers is part of the charm. Coyote Bluff Cafe doesn't try to be anything other than a spectacular, small-town Texas burger joint, and it executes that identity flawlessly. This is a MUST Stop in Texas

Looked this up for a great new place to eat on a drive through Amarillo. It did not disappoint…read more Small little place and you wait outside but it was breezy and only had a short wait. Once inside you notice the charm of it all. Dollar bills all over the walls, showing multiple satisfied customers. Two servers/ waitresses working their tails off. They were very polite and patient with all the patrons. Ordered the bacon cheese burgers. All I can say is you better have an appetite, they are half pound patties and piled high with the fixings. Excellent & satisfaction is all I can say. Also for the half & half- fries and onion rings. Hot and freshly made. This is definitely a place to try out. Interesting and the food was well worth the $. Kudos to the cooks!

Have you ever wanted to eat out... but not actually dine out? So you order takeout and immediately…read moreget that little feeling of apprehension like, "Please let this food be as good as it would've been in the restaurant." Well, that was us today -- and Bubba's 33 absolutely delivered. My husband ordered the smash burger, and I got the New England-style fish and chips, plus a full order of their hand-breaded, hand-cut onion rings that are honestly to die for. We picked everything up just 15 minutes after ordering, and every single item tasted like it had just come straight from the kitchen to our table. The onion rings were perfectly crispy with that fresh-from-the-fryer crunch and flavor. The fish had that classic crunchy beer batter on the outside while still being flaky and tender inside, and the garlic mashed potatoes were clearly homemade with just the right amount of garlic. Now let's talk about the smash burger... it was HUGE. Seriously, it could feed three people. My husband practically inhaled it before I could even take a picture! What really impressed me wasn't just the portion sizes -- it was the attention to detail. The onion rings were packaged separately so they stayed crisp, and the savory Bubba's 33 sauce paired perfectly with them. We each ate several onion rings and STILL had leftovers. Even the side salad was incredibly fresh. I'm obsessed with those little crispy potato straws on top, and the homemade ranch is the perfect finishing touch. Honestly, it was refreshing to order takeout and not have a single issue. Nothing missing, nothing cold, nothing soggy or stale -- just an exceptional meal from start to finish. Huge shoutout to the cooking staff and online order prep team at Bubba's 33. You all absolutely crushed it tonight. We will definitely be ordering again and again!

Fun to watch the people taking on the 72 oz challenge. There were 2 guys going around the tables playing music and it felt very uncomfortable how they were right in the personal space of the people seated at the ends. It didn't feel like the performers were very comfortable either. Husband ordered a steak medium rare, but it came out WELL DONE. Lady in the party next to us had to send her steak back to the kitchen not once, but TWICE. We are not high maintenance people. This is just a touristy place where the staff have to churn a high volume of customers each day. So quality is probably going to fall to the wayside. Also, I got the beef tips and mashed potatoes which comes with 2 sides. I got the hatch chile creamed corn, and the steak tomato and onion. The creamed corn was BLAND and the steak tomato with onion was just a raw tomato with a dash of salt and pepper and 3 rings of RAW PURPLE ONION. I thought the tomato would be blistered and the onion grilled???!! And the kicker was that the waitress gave us the wrong receipt for our order. (Which yes, when you're serving so many different tables, chances are you're going to have mix ups). They have some fun games in the outdoor seating area like Cornhole and connect 4, but it smelt like sewage outside. Redeeming factor is that the bread rolls are warm, tasty, and complimentary. And the beers are adequately priced and a good selection.
