We almost turned around bc we were sure we weren't going the right way, but when we got there we knew it was going to be a cool experience. It's a super small restaurant and we got there around 1:30pm and there was still a 25 minute wait. I took that as a good sign. Speaking of good signs, there were really cute signs and decorations that my 5 year old enjoyed talking about. The food was delicious. Service was great, speedy and friendly. Like others have probably done, we found this gem via Yelp. Yelp is typically hit or miss for me. This time it was an unexpected hit! Small, clean and busy establishment near the airport with a quick, attentive and friendly service. We ordered the chilaquiles and cinnamon coffee. Everything was great. Average, average, average. Nothing special and I absolutely disliked what I had. Not a lot of flexibility with the menu. I'm not one to struggle with a menu but this was a challenge. If you don't want a ton of carbs for breakfast, you're out of luck. My omelette was not good and it had others food from the grill in it. This is a very interesting restaurant in a very interesting place. We were recommended the English Field House by some friends who know we love good chilaquiles. Of course our initial reaction was "good chilaquiles at a place called the English Field House??". The name is historical, and does not reflect the food....so, there you have it. We ordered 2 chiliquieles...one chicken, one asada...one green, one red. Loved them all. The kids had the french toast and were very very happy. All in all...wonderful food. It is tight in there, and we had to wait half an hour, but it was Ok..lots to see outside as the airport isn't too busy, but has a museum about 100 yards away we checked out while waiting. Located right next to the Tac Air terminal at Amarillo Airport, this is definitely a favorite of the locals ... and for good reason! The food here is pure local Tex-Mex, and absolutely delicious! I ordered the Migas. Think Chilaquiles but not as runny, heheh. Though it didn't look like a full plate, I was plenty full after wolfing it down! Good solid breakfast. Wish once again Yelp allowed for us to rate 4.5 stars as we had a great experience for breakfast but was not quite 5 stars. My husband had the chilaquilles and he said they were really good. They did have the homemade corn Tortillas as advertised and the flavors were a great combination. I had the traditional breakfast since I can not handle much spice. My eggs were cooked perfectly and it all tasted good. They offer a coffee with cinnamon and it was very tasty. Staff was super. They were welcoming, patient and attentive and worked well together. Definitely recommend stopping by if you are on the east side of Amarillo. I wanted something simple; so, I chose an ice tea with no sugar, grilled cheese on Texas toast with fries. It was throughly cooked and the fries were fresh. Also, I would suggest facing towards to runway to view the different aircraft that come and go on a daily basis. Our breakfast was delish. I had the chilaquiles with red and green chiles. The dish packs a punch but it's worth it. Both red and green are good with the green being more spicy but if you can take the heat, go all green. My wife had the herbivore omelette. She said it was so good she didn't even need to add salt and she adds salt to everything. We also got the loaded pancakes for the little one but also for us. VERY good. Didn't even need the syrup. Coffee was good as well as the fresh squeezed orange juice. Service was also fantastic. All in all a great breakfast. If you live in Amarillo you should eat here all the time. I have been to cafes that overlooked airport runways in two other towns, San Diego (El Cajon), and Mesa, Arizona. This one was on a par with both of them, maybe a bit smaller but the view might be a little bit more spectacular since the other two are at small airports where you only see little planes, a perfect place to take children to watch planes take off and land, but this one is at the big airport so you can watch the regular jets take off and land. I saw one small plane land and two jets take off, one Delta and one Southwest. When I board my plane to leave Amarillo I'll have to remember to sit on the right side so I can look down on the restaurant as we take off. I looked over the whole menu and saw lots of things that looked good but I was sort of in the mood for the chicken salad sandwich after seeing a photo of it and it was one of the most reasonably priced things on the menu at $5.95. That even included a large scoop of potato salad. The sandwich was delicious but it completely disintegrated as I tried to pick it up. I ate what I could with my fingers, sandwich style, and the rest I just ate with my fork. The potato salad was large and chunky and had good flavor. I hit there mid afternoon so there was plenty of seating. The waitress did a good job and the place looked plenty clean. If I lived in town I think I would enjoy coming out here often. read more
