It was a slammed Saturday morning, so when the time for a 4-top table was 30 minutes ... I knew it would be. I wasn't wrong! Although it was a grip rough trying to kill that time in the smallest gift shop ever, and attempting to be not in the way. You can only look at several objects, and pause and say, that's interesting so many times ... Thankfully, I turned on a 30 minute timer on my mobile phone. [30 minutes later] We were seated at a 4-top, and Danielle greeted us immediately. She was cute! I digress. She asked us those obligatory questions, what to drink, oh coffee?, water too?, yes, yes. We all ordered the same damn thing: chicken fried steak with eggs. We forgot that biscuit and gravy accompanied most meals. And if that wasn't enough ... grits for everyone. You get grits! 7pm on a Tuesday night we found friendly staff that really tried but there seemed to be way too few servers for the relatively light crowd. The food wasn't anything that I expected as far as quality for "Country" cooking. SYSCO or US Foods maybe. Long ago Cracker Barrel was a family treat for good food and fast service. I spoke with the manager "Rasheed" about how bad the food was and how we got sick right after eating. Didn't seem to care one bit. Crazy how this food chain has gone down hill. If I had to choose between IHOP, Denny's and Cracker Barrel, hands down Cracker Barrel would win every time! They are the breakfast champs! They serve breakfast all day long but also offer good lunch and dinner options. It's cozy, smells fantastic and just makes you feel like your eating in someone's home! The food is much better then their competition! Their pricing is also very reasonable! I just love shopping around in the front of the restaurant. They have the CUTEST home decor and really cute clothes! They also have a lot of novelty items like beanie babies, vintage sodas and candies! This is a fun family store/restaurant. What happened to this place? Is it just this location that is so bad or is it all of them? It was not great the last time we tried it months ago and we decided to give it another try tonight just to see if the last time was a fluke. It was worse this time than the last time. The mashed potatoes was just a mashed up baked potato with a little gravy on them. Even with the gravy they were super dry. The hamburger steak came dry with no gravy and no seasoning. I thought hamburger steak came with onion gravy. It used to anyway. The pinto beans and turnip greens were awful! I used to get just the beans and greens meal cuz it was so good. It's now very disappointing. The cornbread was almost mushy. Please tell me not all locations are as bad as this one!!!!! We won't go back to this one. Bottom line: not worth the wait, not honest with customers. We know the weekend crowd is unreasonably large on, but we woke earlier on a Sunday than usual, and we found that they have begun allowiing you to get on the list via app. Thought this was the clever way to do it. App said 1 hour wait. Got there within 10 minutes. Checked in at front. Was told if we could eat outside we'd bump up a couple of spots on the list. Sure. Great. Waited the full hour, checked for update, was told to expect upwards of another hour. The place is a victim of it's own success. They can piss of 75% of the crowd and still fill the place. This place usually slaps, i honestly always hype this place up. But recently it hasn't been going in as hard. The biscuits were dry and make me cough, i got the hiccups. But a very nice young man who works here pat me on the back and said "are you doing okay?" I should start calling them brutal biscuits. (The gravy slays tho). Don't get me wrong, I love Cracker Barrel. But I'm here for breakfast and got the biscuits and gravy with sausage. The biscuits were good, just cold along with the gravy; the gravy needed salt! Got my food fast and my waitress checked up on me. The other thing was this store didn't have many items in it's merchandise area. To make it worse, the server waited until he pulled out his notepad to take our order before telling us. I've never had to leave a review for something because I've never had such terrible service. We turned down and canceled reservations for a highly rated breakfast place this morning for some Cracker Barrel. We were seated and it took us 15 minutes to get any service at all. The pancakes were greasy and the hashbrown casserole was straight up mush I couldn't stomach it. (Picture for reference) On top of that I went to buy things from the gift shop and my card was charged for something they didn't put in the bag. When I called to let them know they immediately with no thought said "ok just come back" like girly I am like an hour away. Then they told me to call the nearest Cracker Barrel "to get it sorted" I called the San Marcos location and they said there was nothing they could do. I asked for a refund and they said since I didn't have the item they couldn't do that. YALL ARE A BUNCH OF LAMES FOR THAT WTF. This is the typical chain restaurant in Austin area, they ate short-staffed due to their mismanagement during covid crisis. Ate there Sunday at about 11:40 am. The wait for a table was 50 minutes. Waiter was new and a little slow but I didn't hold that against him. We waited ONE HOUR for food we ordered to come, stuff was missining but they corrected relatively quickly. This was a 3 HOUR lunch, food was OK, I'd rate them lower but have Rerceived far worse in Austin area. Will be a long time before I return due to the 3 HOUR though. read more

Let me be clear here: I LOVE Cracker Barrel, so it pains me to leave this review, but to be blunt this is consistently the WORST Cracker Barrel I've ever been in. The management is lazy, providing no guidance, help, or oversight for the waitstaff, who are across-the-board unhelpful, slow, lacking in customer service skills, and without even trying to attempt to provide service beyond the bare minimums. Top that off with a kitchen staff that is both unbelievably slow (45 min+ for a basic breakfast dish, even when fully staffed and not overly crowded), and incapable of something as basic for a Cracker Barrel as eggs over-medium, and you have the Cracker Barrel from Hell where hopes of decent food go to die. read more

We haven't been out of the house for a while and we just needed a change of scenery. So we headed up this way to go to Cabela's (my check in didn't post) and have lunch. Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite places for day trips. It is the definition of comfort food. It reminds me of going to my Grandmother's to eat. Lost of wholesome homestyle food that brings back very pleasant memories. We have been to no less than a dozen Cracker Barrels all over the state and other parts of the country. It is always great to find one on a road trip and take a break from fast food and traveling. Consistency in every one we have been in is the word I was use. This one is no different and the service was top notch. I almost always have the meatloaf. They are very kind about me asking for a side of brown gravy. I just have to have brown gravy on my meatloaf. It is always very tasty and the brown gravy is good for sopping with my cornbread. I took my good friend out for her birthday dinner to your location on Sunday night. We ordered fried pickles, and I have to say they almost rivaled those I like to get in New Orleans, and that is saying something! Our server, Hannah, was the highlight of the evening. If she didn't want to be there, i believe she has a stellar career in Hollywood because it certainly didn't show. She was friendly, and attentive, and having been a general manager in food for ten years I can quickly spot someone who is good at seamless task switching, and she has got it by the bucketful. Then, in a rude tone she said, "unless you have time to wait around for 30 minutes for us to get to your order." I mean really? Definitely could of been handled better. I go to other Cracker Barrels and experience much better service & food. In my humble opinion, this one suffers from poor management/ownership. Specifically: Lack of attention to Food Prep. - Repeatedly, if you visit here, they will be out of what you order. In the past, the breakfast casserole. Yesterday, roast beef. (I'm told: the cook forgot to pull it.) False Advertisement - Big posters draw attention to a new coffee drink or a Mason Jar filled with banana pudding. What you get is a small glass with one half of your expectation! So don't fall for it! Turnover - Times are tough for restaurants and employees. What do they expect, paying them a couple of dollars per/hr. when they can make tips right? It's hard to keep trained employees when you cheat them, don't work with their schedules, etc. You'll see the signs here. Poor management. read more

This review is about to-go/online ordering. I placed an online order today and the email said to pick up my food at 3:51 p.m. I showed up on time and was told it would just be a few more minutes. I ended up waiting for 20+ minutes and still no food. I had to get back in line and ask again, but I just gave up on wasting my time and asked for my money back. A manager had to be called and all he could say was "sorry." No one even bothered to check on my order. This place has been awful from the start. Every time we have ordered to go they get our order wrong or have missing items. I have called and complained before and the manager apologized and we decided to give it another try (probably the 4th time trying) since we do not have many breakfast options in the area. This time I called the store directly and placed the order with someone in their "to go" line after getting an error message on their website. After 30-40 mins after placing the order I arrive and they tell me the order was never placed and there is no record of it. I was not going to stand and wait after the order was placed with the purpose of picking up and go so I said "thank you good bye". my family are i are huge fans of Cracker Barrel. we come at least once a week to our local location. today, it was very busy, which was expected. we were seated and our kind server helped us out taking our order. once we received our order, we were a little confused as to where the rest of the food was! lol. we called back the server and requested to see the manager and to explain that it was obviously not his fault. the manager came over to us and mentioned that you will not always get the plate on the menu. and we insisted to tell him that for the past weeks that we have been here, the plate has a decent size pieces of french toast and the chicken is a lot bigger. we asked if there was something he can do for us since the plate was not as expected. the manager made us feel like we were bothering him. he said he will get us another piece of chicken. he walked to the kitchen and came back with 1 more piece of chicken on the plate and told us we had to "share" it. we understand the place was busy, but for a manager of the establishment to tell us that we had to SHARE food, is beyond me. our food was great, as always, but better management is needed. the manager was a heavier, bald, maybe spanish, with glasses, didn't get his name. but hopefully this review gets him better training... read more

Great food and service. I really liked the setup they have there and the rocking chairs outside to sit on as you wait to be seated. Nice air-conditioned store to walk around in if it is too hot outside to wait for your table.
