my family are i are huge fans of Cracker Barrel. we come at least once a week to our local location. today, it was very busy, which was expected. we were seated and our kind server helped us out taking our order. once we received our order, we were a little confused as to where the rest of the food was! lol. we called back the server and requested to see the manager and to explain that it was obviously not his fault. the manager came over to us and mentioned that you will not always get the plate on the menu. and we insisted to tell him that for the past weeks that we have been here, the plate has a decent size pieces of french toast and the chicken is a lot bigger. we asked if there was something he can do for us since the plate was not as expected. the manager made us feel like we were bothering him. he said he will get us another piece of chicken. he walked to the kitchen and came back with 1 more piece of chicken on the plate and told us we had to "share" it. we understand the place was busy, but for a manager of the establishment to tell us that we had to SHARE food, is beyond me. our food was great, as always, but better management is needed. the manager was a heavier, bald, maybe spanish, with glasses, didn't get his name. but hopefully this review gets him better training... read more

Frustrated. Dad and I haven't been out to eat since the pandemic last year. Walked in just a couple of minutes shy of closing (7:55)....keeping in mind that we are used to much later hours (like 9 or 10 pm).... Walked in and went to the waitress station. She had her back to us and was staring into a cabinet (which if she were facing would be behind her). Not cleaning the menus..not making silverware packs...nothing. Just staring into the cabinet. I cleared my throat which made her turn around. We asked for a table for two. Rather than tell us they were closed, she said something quietly into her headset. Manager comes out and said, I'm sorry folks, the restaurant closed at 8. Our kitchen is already shut down...remember we got there before 8 and were not aware of the new hours. I read the Yelp reviews before taking my mom for an early dinner and people were pretty brutal. I set my expectations accordingly and went anyway because my mom was on Week 3 of a Cracker Barrel craving and I wanted her to get her fix. We saw a note on the door letting us know that certain economic factors had them experiencing slower than normal service times. Okay, thanks for the heads-up. We were seated immediately and found tables spaced out and few customers, but I attributed that to the time of day. Although it took a little longer than normal before our server came over, we weren't concerned. After all, I had read the Yelp reviews and Cracker Barrel put a sign on the door. Our masked server, Talia, came to our table and provided us outstanding service from that minute until we left the restaurant. She was kind, engaged, helpful, efficient, and thoughtful. I believe the shine in her eyes said there was a smile under her mask. I am sorry that other patrons have not had the same experience we had. I no longer live in the area of this Cracker Barrel and it has been years since I have been there. Not happy with my experience at all. Came to pick up our food in the Togo parking and called to let them know we were there. The young lady said our food was ready and they don't bring the food out to you. She told me to come in and pay. Well I'm sick, so no I'm not doing that. My husband called and was told yes they do bring the food out and someone would be right out. Waited another 10 min after watching other cars get served that showed up way after us and had to ask the girl that was serving the car next to us where our food was. She sent a manager out to us with our money to confirm we're here for our food? I'm not sure why she came out...Anyways finally got our food and went home and I'm missing my vegetable soup. The whole reason I went there because I'm sick and really wanted soup. Chicken and dumplings meal had only green beans and an empty slot in my plate where the Mac n cheese is supposed to go, but it was in a cup. The Togo girl argued that their were 3 cups and she packed it herself. Sounds like you put my soup in someone else's bag. Usually, the Mac n cheese side is in the bigger container with the main meal and my soup would have been in the cup. Regardless, even if y'all changed how you package things, I still didn't get my soup. My husband drove back to get my soup and they argued with him that there are more containers in the bag. The woman that takes care of the Togo's copped an attitude with my husband and said I packed the food myself, I know it's in there.Meanwhile,I'm at home with the food and sent a picture for verification because she demanded to look through our bag. I didn't know that we would be argued with and harassed over a cup of $3 soup THAT WE PAID FOR AND DIDN'T GET! Also the sides were cold. You think we drove all the way home and thought you know what? I really feel like letting my food sit so I can drive all the way back for a free cup of vegetable soup. ( by the way jokes on me I guess bc the soup tasted terrible) How do you mess up vegetable soup? We're disgusted with the attitude of your employee. She offered my husband a chance to speak with a manager, but we're on a time crunch before my husband has to go to work and we'd like to eat our food. Honestly, I wasn't going to say anything until I found out how my husband was treated when he drove back. Do better y'all. We were there to enjoy my dad's 91st Birthday. Total disappointment. Food - Luke warm to cold. Server - had too many customers. We waited forever for to go containers. I got to up to retrieve to-go cups and lids. Ambiance - large group tables are placed too close so we were all squeezed in against the wall. In case of an emergency tables, chairs, and people would have to be moved out of the way. The staff and management know they have a huge problem. They need yo fix it. Checked in on the App and it said the the wait was 5-10 min, and to check in at the hostess. Walked inside, and did so but noticed a paper list. I told the hostess I checked in thru the app. She said it wasn't working on her end, but I also noticed my name right there on the computer screen. I pointed at it and said "there it is and we are here". 15 minutes later, I checked to see if we were even on the list and the supervisor asked if they wrote my name down? How the hell would I know? About 10 minutes later, we were finally seated. The waitress took our drink order and after waiting about 5 more minutes, we finally got our drinks and she took our order. Many tables were open probably due to covid separation but it really didn't look busy. Another table got seated after we were there for at least 15 minutes at the table. My old diabetic ass tried to order online and that was a no go. So I go inside. I tell the hostess I would like to place a to go order. I place my order and she supposedly calls a server to come up front. Then two girls in their late teens or early 20s come to the hostess stand and start talking about something other than taking my order. There are several dining choices on Old San Antonio Road. I left the store without ordering any food. There are small restaurants struggling to make it. OMG! I travel full time in an RV. I stopped for a Thanksgiving meal. It was crowded when I arrived around 11:30. It felt like a typical Thanksgiving gathering, except more people. It was like waiting for the meal while all of the touches were being put on. The service was awesome, like a well greased wheel. Everyone pitched in to help each other out. Even though it was packed, everyone had a pleasant attitude that made you feel special. Server, Thomas, went above and beyond. Just a great way to spend a few hours while traveling. read more

A family member wanted traditional St. Patty's Day corned beef and cabbage today. Based on a singular halcyon chance experience at the Cracker Barrel in Houston (http://www.yelp.com/biz/cracker-barrel-old-country-store-houston-2) in the early 2000s--which actually served up the most incredible CB&C any of us ever had--I drove a stake in the ground and took on the 20 mile round trip to pickup to-go from here. This Cracker Barrel's rendition came complete with 3 enormous potato chunks, 4-5 carrots, a quarter cabbage, and 2.5 paltry slices of corned beef, along with 2 complimentary cornbread muffins. It looked like a full plate, due in large part to the size of the potatoes. All would have been well if they actually had taken a bit of time out to cook the vegetables. The huge potato chunks were just slightly this side of raw. The carrots had slightly more acquaintance with heat, but not much more. The cabbage was a bit more cooked than either of the above, but definitely very far from fall-part tender. The cornbread muffins were better than average, although not stellar. Their only saving grace was that the pièce de résistance corned beef was indeed quite good. In short, once you threw away the grossly undercooked vegetables, they basically had a good protein snack. I'm sure the Irish would have revolted had they been served this slop. As far as the service went, the ordering process was incredibly smooth, but the pick-up process was nothing short of chaotic. I was told the food would be ready in 15 minutes. By the time I arrived and paid the cashier, 21 minutes had elapsed, but there was no sign of the food. It took several loud hints of "manager" and "refund" to get the mostly non-working staff to grudgingly bring out my food after yet another 10 minutes of waiting. The first hint was when they told me to browse around while my order was being "bagged". Now I know what they were really hiding. I could have gone to Luby's. I could've gone to Eleven Plates. I could've bought a corned beef and a cabbage at Costco and put it in the microwave, and I'm certain I would've wound up with a far more edible result than what I got from this Cracker Barrel today. If serving absolute crap in quantity is your bag, by all means go here. As for me and this Cracker Barrel, stick a fork in it--if you can--I think I'm done. However, I am sorely disappointed that they do not work with uber eats or favor delivery, because sometimes the place is just jam packed. CUSTOMER BEWARE. With the upcoming holidays approaching rather quickly, I would not recommend purchasing a gift card from Cracker Barrel, EVER. Recently, my wife and I received a $100 gift card as a "thank you" from a close friend and it has been a nightmare redeeming it to pay for our meals. According to Michelle, the manager on duty at the time, and Erin (cashier) they are "trying to stop shoplifters". Michelle added that her loss prevention manager (Jim Bishop) also advised her not to take any gift cards. I explained to her we are not shoplifters and her statements do not sit with me well and I will be contacting CEO/President Susan B. Cochran. What a joke of a Cracker Barrel... walked in at 1:20pm on 1/05/2021 Host said there was a 20 to 25 minute wait. Usually they give you a little longer estimate to be on the safe side but believe them when they tell you it will be 20 to 25 minute wait and then add 5 minutes. When we were finally called We sat down and the waitress who turned out to be our waitress went to a table that had been seated right before us. The table of four asked if they could go ahead and order and then proceeded to avoid ordering... then ordering something and changing their order. In other words they had no freaking idea what they wanted and instead of telling them she would come back when they were ready she stood there and entertained their nonsense for over twenty minutes. When finished she came directly to our table apologizing profusely. We ordered and she said she would be right back with our drinks and some cornbread and biscuits. During the next 10 minutes another group came in and was seated next to us and received their drinks precisely 5 minutes before we got ours. Anyways we received our drinks and bread and were so hungry we ate the bread and finished our drinks and were still waiting on our food.. waiting and waiting and waiting. I love Cracker Barrel, my whole family does. This was my first time at this location and I was not disappointed at all. We love the quaint country style store with their unique product to purchase. Even more so, we love the "home style" comfort food that is served here. The menu is huge and they offer breakfast all day long as well as daily specials. This type of food to me is what I grew up with eating on Sundays with my Grandma. Rarely have I had bad customer service at Cracker Barrel and this place was no different - our waiter was very nice and accommodating to our multiple requests. Prices here are decent as well. Now, in regards to this particular establishment, if you like Cracker Barrels and want the consistency of dining here, this one will not disappoint. It was a long day in Austin and upon driving home, bro and I stopped at this cracker barrel just because no real reason. Upon entering we said 2 and family behind us was 5 and they went before us which kinda perturbed me. They really need to put somewhere to sit because I just want in the mood to browse all the unnecessary junk they have. Keep in mind when I don't eat I get a bit hangry so anyways, she said 5-10 minutes but it ended up being 15 so boo to that. Once we were seated we weren't really acknowledged until 5 minutes later. After reading some old reviews I noticed they were right it smelled like burning plastic so ewww. After placing our orders, we waited 20 more minutes(!) My wife and I arrived for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon at about 1:45pm. The lobby wasn't busy and we were immediately seated. At least that part was a positive experience. We sat looking at our menus for 15 minutes to decide what we wanted. During the entire time, our table was ignored. We had not even met our server. At 2:05, I sought the manager. I asked if we could get a server. He apologized and said one would be right over. Well...she was. We ordered our drinks and lunch. Drinks were served promptly. Then the waitress disappeared. Ten minutes later we had empty drinks. Still no waitress. At 2:30, our food arrives. The chicken was cooked quite well, as expected. My sides were warm (not hot). My wife, who ordered the vegetable plate, received two of the three vegetables, and was informed that they were out of the third vegetable. So, instead of sending a waitress to make a substitution during the prep, she finds out when they bring out an incomplete order. Also missing was cornbread and biscuits. We had to ask for those to be served with our meal, apparently, even though they were included with the orders. The waitress informed us that we would be given a complimentary dessert for the inconveniences. The waitress comes around when we are almost finished with our meal, and we ask for "to-go" boxes for our food and place our dessert order. The waitress leaves our check and we also ask for a "to-go" cup for my wife's peach tea. My wife ordered the apple pie w/ ice cream. I ordered the bread pudding. Sorry...can't have it...they were out. I ordered peach cobbler...a perennial favorite of mine. The desserts come rather quickly. I guess they can serve those quickly because they were not even warm. It looks like the waitress has disappeared again...we were still waiting on that "to-go" cup. Finally, we just picked up and headed to pay our bill. On our way out we saw our waitress. She wished us a good day...probably not realizing that she never brought that cup. I will say thank you to the manager for the dessert. We appreciate the gesture.
