I want to start by saying I love Cracker Barrel. Also my server Olivia was super sweet. However the cook definitely needs to be sent home permanently. I have eaten here several times over the years. I thought I had already reviewed it. I are here again last weekend. One thing that I have never heard of was that they were out of straws. That's right. I have been to probably thousands of restaurants in my life and for the first time, my waitress told me they were out of straws. Food, specifically chicken, gave my boyfriend, his mother, and both his grandparents, food poisoning. 12-24 hours after, all family members were experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. I even was considering taking him the emergency room. I suspect there was issues is proper food storage or preparation, such as leaving chicken out for too long, or being undercooked. I for sure fell in love with this place and make and effort to go Everytime I am in the area. I love the host, Everytime I am here the service is great and friendly. This time I opted for the all day breakfast - yogurt parfait. With egg whites (over easy), no meat and hash brown casserole with no bacon. My love ordered the fish because you know... Cracker Barrel is normally a dependable choice, the last three times we visited the on in Columbus the service was horrible. Today we set there over 15-minutes and no one ever spoke to us. Two other couple came in after us, happened to be black, they got waited on immediately. We left and will not got back. Very disappointed. I've never really had great experiences over the years of dining at Cracker Barrel, mostly just lackluster experiences. To the point that I hadn't been to any Cracker Barrel location in about a year. Now that I've moved to Columbus, MS and drive by a location at my freeway exit every day, I decided to give them a try. I was quickly reminded why I stopped wasting my money at Cracker Barrel. From the moment I walked in, just a lack of happy, genuine employees. The hostess acted like it was an imposition to seat us, at a dirty table that she wiped and left wet for us. The waitress never smiled once. She wasn't rude, but definitely didn't care. The food would have been fine if it was brought out as ordered. I ordered Chicken Fried Chicken, which is served with gravy and two sides. I received Homestyle Chicken instead. I don't know if both dishes use the same chicken, but the gravy was missing. Maybe a simple omission, but finding the server turned out to be impossible. While my dining partner ate nearly an entire meal, I waited for the server to check on us, so I could question the error. Nowhere to be found. For at least 15 Minutes. Break time? Then have someone check on your guests. Simply hiding? Likely. Finally, after my food was cold, I was able to flag down another server. I explained the problem, but all I got was deer in the headlights look. She clearly didn't know the menu either. I asked her to get our server. At least 5 minutes later our server did finally stroll over. I explained the problem. She decided the appropriate fix Was a side of lumpy gravy. Again, not sure if the chicken was wrong too. No apology, no smile, no nothing. Just going through the motions of the requirements of a Cracker Barrel "server". From the moment I sat down, I knew I wanted peach cobbler. By the end of the meal, I wanted nothing more than to leave. Thank you for the reminder of why we don't eat at Cracker Barrel. Hard lesson learned. First off the space was clean and well kept; we did wait a minute at the hostess desk but she was training a new colleague. After they seated us, our waitress took our order swiftly and it was done just as fast. My food was amazing and cooked perfectly, I had the mamas pancake breakfast. My boyfriend liked the chicken and dumplings, but it wasn't anything special. The only complaint I have on the food is the biscuits were not fresh. I stopped here to swap out my book-on-CD. The young lady at the register was knowledgeable and speedy, and there was a very good selection of other books to borrow. This really is an awesome program - you "buy" the series and then you can return it to any Cracker Barrel restaurant where you get a credit for your purchase price minus a $4 per week charge. How many times can a waitress walk by every table BUT yours and ignore you? We're visiting from Fort Worth, TX. Seated in the middle of the restaurant in PLAIN sight. Our waitress took a drink order and brought them immediately. We NEVER got our corn bread. My boyfriend ordered the buffalo Mac and cheese, which was just Mac and cheese with chicken strips because there was NO buffalo sauce on it. There was NO gravy on my chicken fried steak and it was dry as a bone. We tried multiple times to get her attention, while she waited and checked on every table around us. We sat for about 30 minutes waiting on a check, when she finally brought it, OF COURSE IT WAS RIGHT! The restaurant wasn't very busy, but we had to wait for ever to get our food. It's no exaggeration to say that we were there almost an hour and a half for a meal that could have taken roughly half as long, had the crew been efficient. And it wasn't just waiting for food; the table next to ours sat uncleared for at least 45 minutes, and once someone started cleaning it, it took about 10 minutes and 2 or 3 different waitresses... Later I did see what looked like a busboy, but he was just standing around. As for the food proper... it was competent, but that's about it. The fish was barely cooked, while the turnip greens were so badly overcooked that even the bacon they mix into it was flavorless. (I guess it's bacon? It looked bacon-ish anyway, but I pity the pig who gave his life to be turned into flavorless protein.) My side of steak fries counted about 8 or so fries (I am not kidding) while my daughter's double order of steak fries had something like 40 (I am not kidding). Thank God she likes me enough to share; I got more fries by taking 1/4 of hers than I did with my own order. I have been to Cracker Barrel, Columbus, Ms 3 times in the past week. 2 out of 3 times, my to-go orders have been wrong. I addressed the second time to an employee. Explained that I did not receive what I ordered, Maple Bacon Grilled Chicken with 2 sides of carrots and turnip greens. My total on this order was a little over $18. Not only did I get extremely small portions, especially for the cost; but I got grilled bland chicken strips with nothing on it. I order the Maple Bacon Grilled chicken frequently and has always been great. Obviously, that's why it's my favorite. When I addressed this to the employee, she said "I just don't have words for that ", laughingly. Nothing apologetic; at all. I was kind of taken off guard, I think. I let it go. So my last order , I had the same order but this time, I clearly stated that I wanted my chicken as it's suppose to be. I even told them to stress that to the cook if needed. So, that order was correct on the chicken, but didn't get my turnip greens; got hash brown casserole that was very dry and crispy. When I pay $18 for a meal; please please atleast get the order right. I frequently eat there but I'm definitely having second thoughts about giving it another chance. I had a friend to tell me that you typically would always make things right in situations like this. All I got was a silly remark and an almost mocking laugh.
