I went to Cracker Barrel for the first time in years because a family member treated a small group of us to lunch. What a nice offer. First, we wondered around the gift shop and chatted. Then we approached the desk which is located at the back of the shop. We were promptly seated. Although not crowded, there were many tables full of diners. Almost all appeared elderly. The room was quiet and dimly lit. The waitress was pleasant as she took our order, yet unhurried. After that, we noticed that she was slowly bussing tables too. We ordered chicken fried streak, turkey, and hamburger steak. The corn bread was dry and a tad burnt. The best dish seemed to be the chicken but it surprisingly came without gravy and the service was rather slow. The waitress seemed surprised by request for gravy - on chicken fried steak - in Tx. Clearly a head scratcher (yes, read with sarcasm). While everyone likes the macaroni and cheese, we discussed the lack of seasoning and overall blandness of the dishes. There was an institutional feel to it all. Frankly, I don't understand how it could be so boring, but a Big Mac would have been far more enjoyable than the hamburger steak. It was a simple naked seasonless uninspired patty- not at all what I expected. Nothing at all on top - naked. The sides were unremarkable too. I asked my family member who came up with the idea to eat there to explain the allure. They said 'consistency'. So I'm thinking, consistently what? Even they agreed that lunch was not great. Decided I would give this place a second chance. My food took forever and when I received it it looked like this pic below. Very questionable! The main course was supposed to be chicken and dumplings but honestly had a weird film over it... couldn't even finish it. There was only one piece of what looked like regurgitated chicken in it. There was a GM named Q that was walking around talking to all the tables, ensuring that everyone was having a pleasant experience. This is management done right!! We had a very disappointing experience with the hostess, Yasmin (or Yazmin). When we first arrived, we clearly told her we needed a table for 4 and a highchair. She seated us, and then came back and told us we would have to leave the table and wait again because we "didn't tell her" we had kids with us which we absolutely did. My husband and I ordered takeout a couple of weeks ago. When we received it, you could tell the food was not fresh and had been sitting out and dried for several hours. It was a terrible experience and we wound up having to throw it out. So we thought maybe it was just a one off so we tried it again today. And it was the exact same experience. All the food was dried as if it had been sitting out for hours. The biscuits were so hard they were like rocks and we couldn't even bite into them. This is really sad for what was once a really good restaurant. We would not recommend trying it. I hate throwing food away, especially at prices today. This was my second time trying a Cracker Barrel once in Louisiana and this one in Conroe, Tx. Our waitress Tarah was really sweet and attentive my husband and I chose to eat at this establishment together for the first time and must say we made the right choice. I ordered a glass of orange juice to drink and the Grandma's Sampler which consisted of two pancakes, eggs, hash brown casserole, bacon, ham and sausage patty. I added peaches and whipped cream to my pancakes which was delicious. I loved shopping also in the store seeing some of the toys I played with as a child was astonishing I didn't think they stilled made most of them. I would definitely return and recommend to anyone who is thinking of trying Cracker Barrel. read more

It's been a long while since we have been at this location. We were surprised that the parking lot was so empty. When we first sat down our table was wet because it had been wiped down but not dried, we were never served our drinks, our eggs were cold, The sausage patty was completely dried out the grits were runny, the hash brown casserole was inedible, and our service was extremely slow. The one bright spot is that they actually did do the bacon extra crispy as requested! It's sad but this is one of the reasons that it makes it difficult to go out to eat when you know that the servers are counting on your tips and you are being required to tip on horrible food and service. read more

Cracker Barrel never fails me. Always has great service and consistent food every location I visit. I got my usual - the grandpa's country breakfast: chicken fried steak, hashbrown casserole (best thing ever) and grits. I could go on and on about their hashbrown casserole - so soft and cheesy...the only complaint I would have here is doing covid they still have their mask mandate sign up for indoors (for customers and employees). Let me tell you, about 90% of their customers were NOT wearing masks at all, all their employees were. My group of friends wore ours. I understand the general mask mandate in the US has been lifted but stores and restaurants can still require them. Plus considering the handful of elderly ladies working the cash registers, it's common courtesy to respect their health by wearing a mask. read more

I hate to update my rating to a lower score, but man, the quality of the food has gone down. I had the Smokehouse Breakfast, this is something I order every time I come.... This time around I could really tell the food wasn't up to par. My grits were blands and watery. The gravy had good flavor but I could tell it had been sitting out a while. My eggs weren't anything special, my husband ordered scrambled hard and they scrambled mine hard as well. Our server was very friendly and kind. She was attentive and even brought us out biscuits since the kitchen seemed to be backed up. I love Cracker Barrel but I'll head to the I-45 location next. Every time I ordered grilled chicken tenders for the kids I requested that they don't overcook them because the kiddos won't it them burnt, but every time they ignored my request and the grilled chicken tenders came out burnt. As a regular customer, spending my hard-earned money here (about $110 per visit) I don't think it is too much to ask for the food to be edible. They forgot to make my wife's food and I got mine first, I was halfway done eating before hers came out, never once was I asked if I wanted a refill on my strawberry lemonade, the food was cold and bland, I found a hair in my chicken and dumplings, the tator tot casserole was warm and chewy, the waiter didn't bring us biscuits and we had to mention that to him, the made my wife's salad but forgot to make the chicken for it , my carrots were very mushy and soggy, biscuits were dry, my wife never got her water topped off or refilled, and it took about 30 minutes to get my food and another 10-15 minutes to get hers. We had a really bad takeout experience. Our food was supposed to be ready at 5:15, it wasn't ready until 5:56. I understand that restaurants can be busy, but if it's a pickup order it should be fairly accurate. I've never waited for more than 10 minutes at any other restaurant. When the manager handed our food, all we got was a sorry, nothing at all. Their corporate customer service contacted us and sent us a free dessert but we are still not going back here ever again because the service was so terrible. read more

The night we went for dinner was the weekend of daylight savings time change. We arrived there around 5:30ish. Still early enough to miss the dinner crowd. No wait. At 6:35, an HOUR LATER...no food. The waitress apologized, the manager came around and apologized stating the kitchen was running behind. We understand there are staffing shortages and things will take longer nowadays, thus the waiting for the hour that we did. What didn't sit well with us was the Manager continuing to allow patrons to be seated in a dining room that several tables were not eating. We shared this same concern with the Manager and he stated that he didn't want people to wait outside in the dark. Instead, he was going to fill up the dining room when his waitstaff were clearly running around drenched in sweat, rhetorically. We were frustrated, annoyed and especially hangry. We left with empty stomachs. Cannot give you any feedback on the food for obvious reasons. We won't be back. Just wasn't worth it to risk the same situation. Diners beware! read more

Customer service is the worst I have ever encountered in my 77 years. I got a gift card and went to use it, the clerk scratched off the number and I was told to contact Customer Relations and when you call you just get the computer and there is no way to get a hold of a real person so I went into the store I was told the regional manager would be in the next day I called her and she said there is nothing I could do but she would text customer relations and they would call me back so it has been a couple of days and no one has called. Conroe Cracker Barrel 1:50 pm 8/7/2023 the girl at the podium seated us at a dirty table. My husband sat down at the clean table next to it. The girl had extreme attitude and proceeded to the kitchen entrance, pointing at us and telling all the staff about us, as if we had done something horrible. We are regular customers of our local Cracker Barrel here in Conroe. I am a retired teacher in the local public schools, and my husband is a Navy veteran. Our daughter was with us. We did nothing to deserve this treatment, and we walked out, and we will probably never come to this Cracker Barrel again. read more

Went here for a birthday brunch and was very disappointed. I ordered the French toast and chicken and it wasn't as described it was small and cold and the toast wasn't sliced bread. My son's food was stale as well and the waitress didn't bring biscuits until we asked which happened to be 20 minutes after we arrived. In the midst we observed her bringing drinks and biscuits to tables that sat after we did. She spilled coffee all on our table and the birthday girl and the management wasn't much help. I would give zero stars if I could because we weren't shown the same importance as other people in the establishment were. I asked if the kitchen was backed up and the answer was no. Food was delicious when we got it but the customer service was the worst I've ever experienced. Our waitress with no name tag introduced herself as helping Anna out today. She brought our drinks and took our orders. 40-minutes later we still had no food. Her empty apology was alarming as she blamed the kitchen. Meanwhile, people came in after us and got their food. One family was completely done eating and left before we even got our food. She even admitted knowing the kitchen she was using was slow and she chose NOT to bring us any bread or anything.
