With restaurants shut down with Covid 19, we tried CRACKER BARREL curbside pickup for a quarantine treat. We ordered a Saturday brunch. The ordering and paying was easy online. When we pulled in to pick up our food, the instructions to call for the delivery to our car were clearly posted. Delivery was quick and efficient. Our food was warm and delicious. Servings were generous and plenty of napkins and prepackaged utensils were included. My family have been going to Cracker Barrel for decades and have frequented different locations all over the US. To be disappointed would be a colossal understatement. When we ordered we were told they were out of many things on the menu. Then after we placed our order, another server decided to grab the sugar caddies and salt & pepper from our table while we were still sitting there. She never said a word. She simply reached over us very rudely and grabbed what she was needing. 45 minutes later our food arrives and all five entrees were ice cold. We mentioned this to our server and she just said the kitchen is full of kids that don't know what they are doing. When others at our table bit into their fried chicken, it was black inside. We pointed all of this out to our server and she immediately got the manager. After explaining all of the calamities,the manager rolled her eyes and said she would discount one of the two inedible fried chicken meals. I said no that is preposterous. The entire meal was a disaster. To this she discounted 3 of the five meals after huffing and puffing. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

Stellar! I think I'm addicted to Cracker Barrel. I order them through DD. They have generous portions and the fixings are a great bonus. I really recommend their Sunday Chicken with macaroni and cheese. Their breakfast is okay; my favorite is the Hashbrown Casserole. They also have really good Chocolate Cola Cake! What's not to like? Eating here is all about your expectations. People who complain about Cracker Barrel remind me of people who complain that there are bugs on their tropical vacation. I typically only come here for breakfast, which is not only outstanding, but also affordable. The hash brown casserole is quite tasty and their turkey sausage is a less-greasy alternative to regular. The biscuits are as light as air. The few times I've eaten here for lunch I have really enjoyed all of the vegetable sides and I usually get grilled chicken tenders which are super. It is very much a 'family' place and the food is old-school like 'grandma used to make'. If you know that going in and you're down with it, you're golden. Even though my home decor tastes don't lean toward kitsch, I just love perusing the store out front, although I rarely buy anything. It's a great way to kill time if there's a wait. They do have some cool retro kids toys for sale and it's a GREAT place to buy holiday do-dads or stocking stuffers for the kiddos. read more

It's country cooking with grits and cornbread. I really like their food, but they must use extra baking soda because I feel like I've ate a Mack truck when I'm finished. Breakfast is the best, which you can order all day. I think I'm the only person who loves grits. The place is made out of brick and is extremely LOUD. I enjoyed my 'Chicken & Dumplings' dinner, the waiter was very helpful in suggesting I get the order with 2 sides rather than 3, (too much food). I also love this location's gift shop, whoever buys for this store has great taste. However, during my last visit, there was a black guy waiter/bus person who kept toward the back, and he continuously brushed by me(10 x) while re-filling customers coffee. When I stood up to leave/pay, he zoomed by me again, stopping me in my tracks. Also, whenever I visit this locations gift shop, there's always an employee who approaches me, asking if I'm looking for anything in particular. We were going to eat in, but decided, with the lateness of the hour, that we would get our order to go. That posed a problem. When someone finally came and took our to-go order, there was still a bit of confusion. Once clarified, our order was taken and we thought, submitted. After waiting for 20 minutes, we checked to see if our order was ready (it had been, but we weren't notified). We placed 2 orders, but they only prepared one. The Grandma Sampler. I asked for bacon and sausage, no ham. I got 3 strips of hard, dried out bacon, no sausage (and no explanation). The pancakes were good and the eggs were rubbery. Went here for an early Mother's Day celebration with my family and usually the food is great but not this time unfortunately. We came in yesterday morning for breakfast. Our server was clearly overwhelmed with her tables, looked like she had about 5 plus a large party. It took us 15 minutes before we got our drinks, and another 8 minutes before we got our order taken. But that's not what I'm upset about. The manager stood at the front of the store, about two tables from us, with his tablet, chumming around with employees, checking out their butts, and that's about it. He said goodbye to patrons as they left, but not once did he walk around and see how things were going at tables. Any manager worth their salt would have noticed that we had been seated for ages without drinks, and jumped in to help. He would have noticed if one of his servers was struggling and stepped in. This manager completely ignored our growing frustration, and stood around being useless. I hope the employees here know there are better employment opportunities out there with managers who won't let their servers drown during a rush. Sunday 10/28 around 5pm, husband and I took the family to Cracker Barrel @ Lee's Summit Rd & I-70 for a bite to eat. This was our experience: 1. We walked up to the hostess and without even greeting us, she said, "ummm how many"? I had to smile at her and greet her 1st. 2. She attempted to place our silverware on a dirty table with a used cup still on it. I had to ask her to please wipe the table and remove the cup. She didn't appear to be happy about cleaning the table. 3. Our food took 45 to 50 minutes, came out lukewarm, I asked for onions and cheese in my eggs; no onions, Hubby's pancakes were burnt, no syrup for his burnt pancakes, he never got the drink he asked for, our daughter didn't get a portion of her food and one of my sausage patties was undercooked 4. Once we talked to the manager and started to leave, I saw a dress I liked, so I started looking at it. A woman came from behind the counter and stood by the item right next to us, and began "pretending" to look at the item, while watching us shop. My husband said, "put the dress down and let's go". Went there today for lunch, 2pm Sunday. It Wasn't very busy. We were seated and got our menu's. One menu was soaked with soda. We ordered and waited about 20 minutes for our food, even though most people were leaving and very few comming in. When the food was served we asked FOR SILVERWARE, which we didn't have , as well as more gravy for the patotes , napkins, and mustard. About 5 minutes the gravy was delivered and we were asked if there was anything else. What, We again stated we needed SILVERWARE, mustard and napkins. It was another 5 minutes, after the waitress stopped a couple times to visit , then get what we asked for to bring it back to the table. At this time our food had set for 10 minutes getting cold. Never say the waitress again untill we were done eating. No drink refill, no asking if everything was ok, Nothing. When she handed us the ticket we noticed she added $1.00 for the exta gravy for the patotes we asked for and marked it as smothering. There was a place on the menu that said add grilled onions and gravy for $1.00 but we did not do the gravy and grilled onions, just a bit extra gravy for the patotes because then had so little on them. She responded with huh and no concern at all with anything as if she really didn't care. No waitress has ever added a charge for extra gravy on mashed patatoes. Not the best visit . We also besides the Soaked menu, found the mustard bottle to be covered with food or something and tables were not wiped down. We watched one busser clear the dishes from the table and then walk off without ever touching it with a cleaning towel. TO TOP THIS ALL OFF, WE NOTICED THEY HAVE RAISED THE PRICE ON THEIR SMALLER MEALS WITH TWO SIDES ABOUT 50% FROM $7.99 TO $10.50 OR MORE. INSTEAD OF ONE PRICE FOR THESE MEALS IT NOW VARIES BY MEAL. I ordered the fried catfish and noticed that the filet seems to be much thinner with almost more crust than fish now. So price increases while portion decreaces. read more

I love the chicken fried steak with Hashbrown casserole and fried apples and of course biscuits on the side with gravy. For breakfast the pancakes are amazing and the tiny bottles of warm maple syrup are fun and tasty. Stopped in the Barrel today (5/16) after a day of shopping with my Wife. Been eating at a Cracker Barrel since 1969 - all over the country. I KNOW what to expect from these fine places. The Server that had our table, understandably, was a bit harried - she had a table of 8-9 elderly ladies who were a tad "demanding". I get it. I, too, worked in the restaurant business, I know what it's like. She took our order, all the while complaining that the "ladies were running her ragged". We waited for well over 25 minutes to get our order - while others, who came in after us, was already enjoying their food. Here's the thing - the food was cold, our ice tea was bland and when we asked for a box to take our dinners home - she complained about us asking or a box. I could here her complaining all the way from the kitchen. Seriously guys - when you have a table of that many demanding customers, team up and share the burden. Seemed like the wait staff could really use some extra training as the waitress never greeted us, never showed any interest in us at all--- took forever to get drinks that barely had ice. While we waited I watched a lady "clean" a table wiping food debri on the floor and leaving some on the table and chairs as she walked away-- satisfied she had done the job. The food here is wonderful! If I had to pick just one restaurant to eat in the rest of my life, Cracker Barrel would be it! The service is warm, friendly, and attentive. And the food is plentiful, and very good! (The one time that I got a stringy country-fried steak, the manager replaced it with a pork chop at my request). Hubby and I have gotten addicted to the homestyle buttermilk chicken that is the Sunday special, and go there for it frequently. It has two chicken breasts, and I almost always take one home for a meal the next day. There are different specials every day of the week. Servers will bring extra biscuits and cornbread whenever you request them ... and little bottles of syrup, or little cups of apple butter, or extra butter and jelly. They are very accommodating. Most weeks, we go at least once in the middle of the week. I love breakfast there ... any time of day. The bacon is to die for! They offer two different kinds of ham, and wonderful pork chops. They have an excellent hash brown casserole, as well as other potatoes. And eggs served a variety of ways. Vegetarians can order a veggie plate. There are lots of selections to choose from. My hubby loves the brown beans, the turnip greens, and the fried okra. Their macaroni and cheese is scrumptious! I could make a whole meal out of it! Even the pickiest eater will find something to love! If you get there right at lunch time, you might have to wait 15 to 30 minutes to be seated, but with the rocking chairs out front, and the fascinating stuff in the gift shop, the time flies by. Arrived at Cracker Barrel mid afternoon on a Sunday. After wandering through the store looking at all the merchandise we headed over to the dining area. We were seated without any delay. Our server Piper was absolutely incredible. She took our drink and food order and returned with both items in no time. It was extremely quick. I've got a brother & a sister and brother-in-law & a couple of nieces who all live around Kansas City but it seems like we were never finding time to touch base with each other except on facebook. About two years ago we decided to make the second Tuesday of every month "Breakfast with the Family Day" thanks to brother Dave's suggestion. Everyone who finds themselves with an open morning (including our two daughters & available kids) gathers around the table and spends an hour and half catching up on each others lives. This month we added Cracker Barrel to our rotation of restaurants and our breakfast there turned out pretty good. Cracker Barrel has a large breakfast menu that specializes in LARGE amounts of food. I'm really NOT kidding--it's a LOT of food! For example, the breakfast I ordered is called the Old Timer's Breakfast and is two eggs (any style), a dish of grits, two biscuits with creamy "sawmill" gravy in a bowl on the side PLUS your choice of Fried Apples OR Hashbrown Casserole and a choice of Smoked Sausage Patties, Turkey Sausage Patties or Thick-Sliced Bacon. Now that is a LOT of food! Brother Dave came extra hungry and chose the Sunrise Sampler: Two Eggs cooked to order with Grits, Sawmill Gravy and Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits along with real Butter, Preserves, Jam and Apple Butter. It came with Fried Apples AND Hashbrown Casserole and a sampling of Smoked Sausage, Country Ham and Thick-Sliced Bacon. Practically every breakfast meat option is also represented somewhere on the menu including Hickory Smoked Country Ham, Grilled Pork Chop, Sugar Cured Ham, Fried Chicken Tenderloin, Smoked Sausage, Steak grilled to order, Chicken Fried Chicken or Country Fried Steak. There are also many selections like pancakes, french toast, muffins and cereal/oatmeal but oddly there is no omelet so I'm guessing maybe omelets are not a southern thing? This trip, everyone at the table went for eggs so I can't vouch for the other items on the menu, but the food we ordered was well prepared and the service was friendly and efficient. They have really good and well seasoned cream gravy that was yummy over the biscuits, my grits were nice and smooth and the hashbrown casserole was really tasty. The Cracker Barrel will take it's place as one of our monthly breakfast destinations and it has the added bonus of a gift shop with lots of very cool seasonal items to tempt you before you leave. My favorite was a dancing broom with a witches hat perched on top. But the fancy dressed lady buzzard was pretty darn cute too. read more

I was highly disappointed with our last experience here. I understand that this place is busy during Saturdays and Sundays, but what I don't understand is how management operates or lacks managing seating. We came in about for breakfast and were told our wait would be 30 minutes, which was fine. Approximately 30 minutes later our party was called. When we went to the hostess booth, to be seated, they told us, "sorry there is a wait. We thought we had a table." The manager appeared and didn't give much of an explanation, but just said "we are clearing tables and one should be available." So we waited at the hostess booth a little longer--about 7 minutes. They the hostess said we have a table. She took us to the corner and as she had us follow her, she stopped. She mentioned the booth by the window, which we were supposed to sit at, was not cleaned. She looked dumbfounded, as were we. She asked us to stand there and wait, and we waited near the fireplace, right where all the waitresses and waiters exit with food. I told my husband that this is a disaster waiting to happen. We waited some more and they found out we weren't getting the booth by the window because another couple, sitting at the fireplace and waiting for a table, got the table. So we waited some more, and I was about to leave, but then just as we were about to leave they sat us at some middle table. The service was good, our waitress was very attentive. At least the service was better than last time we came in when it was slow, and requests for condiments took forever to get. When we got our bill I anticipated a break or some percentage off for as my husband said we were "jerked around". So, I went to the manager and spoke with him about how we were paraded through the dining area and he had the nerve to chalk it or the experience on another customer saying "Well, we thought that we had a table cleared, but the customers apparently left to the restroom and after we cleaned the table they came back. I'm sorry, but its been busy and we tried to manage to get you a table." I explained to him that could be the excuse for our first table, but then anticipating the next table was a different story. His next comment was "How was everything else?" and he looked at me while I held my bill, not trying to offer a thing. He looked at me dumbfounded and made me feel like I pestered him. I had to ask for a discount, which he said he could take out the drink prices. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy a nice breakfast on a Sunday. read more

We stop here almost every time we fly into Kansas city. Its a good place to eat, the prices are great. I just cant seem to find anything that really grabs me. We have never had a bad experience at a Cracker Barrel before. Our first (and only) visit to this location was awful. Waiting at the hostess station to be seated, you could smell a strong urine odor coming out of the bathroom. My husband ordered the dinner portion turkey dinner. He asked the waitress if that small amount of meat was all he got for $9.49. She brought him out a small plate with another bit of turkey and blamed it on the kitchen help being new. He ordered corn bread and was told they were out so he was brought one lonely biscuit on another plate. His glazed carrots were boiled till they were mushy. He was still hungry when he finished his meal. While paying the bill, he overheard everyone else complaining about the food and the service. The staff there didn't seem surprised and didn't seem to care about all of the customer complaints. We won't be returning to this location. read more
