This restaurant has the worst service. Don't sit in Tomi's section. She gives horrible service and has an attitude. She spoke poorly about we customers to other customers at a different table. It was rude and immature. The manager was flip when we asked to move tables. He could have been apologetic but his attitude was that he didn't want to be bothered. I've only ever eaten at a Cracker Barrel once and that was back in NC. Now that I've visited another one, I can honestly say that I dont see what all the fuss is about. Sure any CB you drive past is as packed as it always seems to be. I was beginning to think that nobody in Independence, Missouri had a job except those working inside CB. The food is ok, not much taste to it, but there were a couple of things I liked. Seeing as I had been here twice in 2 days, though not because it was my choice. But overall I was not impressed. The service can be really good as it was Monday during lunch nad it can also be bad as it was during breakfast the next day. The food is good. The servers need some training though. It would be a slight exaggeration to say my server delivered my check tonight before I got my dinner, but not by much. I would have liked to have had a refill of water, but guess it wasn't meant to be. I asked about dessert at the beginning of the meal and was told they were listed on the table tent. Um... no, they were not listed on my table tent. It looked like other tables had table tents with a picture of a dessert on them, but not mine. Three topics to discuss here: Service: The service at this location was somewhat lacking. The restaurant was busy when we arrived and we were the last customers in our section when we left. Service was incredibly slow. The young man was nice enough but simple requests such as asking for honey, ketchup, or a refill took excessive lengths of time. He would disappear in back and be unseen for long periods of time. Food: The entrees ordered included two breakfast plates including eggs, sausage, and pancakes, a meatloaf meal, chicken fried steak meal, and the Sampler which included three small "try-it" portions of the chicken and dumplings, country ham, and meatloaf. Odd combo but fun for a foodie looking to try something new. There were two side salads ordered as well. The food was bland at best. Very little seasoning, no use of herbs or spices...bland at best. The salad was chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, nothing special and none of the standard regular ingredients such as carrots, cheese, croutons, etc...and the signature crackers tasted stale. The portion sizes were small compared to the price of meals. The best part of the meal was the iced tea. The worst part was the stuff they called gravy. Yuck-o. Store: Better these days than in the past. Nice to see more current items in the store and the store associates were pleasant. I think it will be some time before we visit a Cracker Barrel again. I was here to meet a high school friend on a Saturday at 11. I ordered pinto beans and ham, which was served with two corn muffins, sliced onions, and some kind of relish. I didn't eat the relish, but I the beans were great with the onions. The only improvement I could suggest is to chop the onions instead of just serving them in slices. :) I had not had the beans and ham before and ordered them because the soup of the day didn't sound good to me. Went there tonight and it was horrible. When we first got there my son and I had to use the restroom. The toilets were gross. They had poop all over them. The service was slow and the food was not good. The potatoes were so old they were dry. I hope they fix this soon. read more

My husband and I went on a Sunday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m. They were not busy at all and we got seated promptly. The menus we were given were gross! They were sticky and very wet, as if they had just had coke spilled all over them. The waitress finally showed up and took our drink orders. Then, she returned to take our orders. I ordered the chopped hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. I asked for enough gravy to cover the potatoes and steak. I also ordered pinto beans and asked for cornbread and mustard for them. Like I said, they weren't busy at all, but it did seem to take a long time for the food to be brought out. When she finally brought our food, she asked if we needed anything else. I replied: "silverware, napkins, mustard and extra gravy", and she left to go get them. She did stop off at a couple of tables to check on them. She was gone far too long to simply get the items requested and in the meantime our food is getting cold. We couldn't even butter our biscuits because we didn't have silverware. When she returned she only had the gravy....no silverware, napkins or mustard. Again, we had to wait and our food continued to get colder! The restaurant was not clean at all. Almost to the point that you didn't want to touch anything or even eat there. I watched more than 1 busboy clean dishes off of tables, but the table was not wiped down, floor was not swept and it was left that way. They just pushed the chairs back in and left them that way. The waitress did finally show up with everything we'd requested. She never returned to see how the food was or to see if we needed anything. I did run out of water, but couldn't get anyone's attention for a refill. The last straw was when I saw that I had been charged $1 for "smothered gravy and onions" for my chopped steak! I asked the waitress why I was charged when I simply asked for extra gravy...no grilled onions. She just shrugged her shoulders and said that was the way it had to be listed! I would give this CrackerBarrel a less than 1 star if possible. Their prices continue to rise, but service and atmosphere continue to go downhill. I would avoid this place at all costs. There are much better, cleaner and more customer oriented places to spend your money. read more

Went here on a Sunday morning. It was a little busy but not to bad. There was no wait to get in. I ended up getting the double meat breakfast which is pretty hearty and you won't leave hungry. This breakfast comes with 3 eggs cooked the way you like them, a full order of bacon and sausage patties, 2 biscuits with a bowl of country gravy,and a bowl of grits. The gravy was a little lacking on taste but everything else was good. We had fast and friendly service our waitress made plenty of stops by the table to see if we needed anything. I've never had issues with Cracker Barrel ever until tonight. I don't know if our server was new or what, but it seemed like he was more concerned with who was hanging out in the kitchen area than actually wanting to make a dollar. The tables around us were filthy. When we were brought to a table, it was filthy. We had to wipe the chairs and table down ourselves. It took telling him twice that I asked for lemons, which were slimy when they were finally brought to the table. Our refills on our tea? Hot watered down tea. Went to this location 2 times. Probably won't be a third time. First visit the waitress was rude and just seemed like she wanted to go home. No smiles but the food was hot. Second visit waitress was nice and smiling. Service was poor. Did not get any refills on drinks. Had to ask for the corn muffins. Ordered the chocolate cake when ordered dinner and waitress forgot so had to remind her. Then had to let her know we wanted 2 since there was 2 of us. We stop at this Cracker Barrel every time we fly into Kansas City. The service is always friendly and very quick. We never wait more than five minutes for a table and the food comes out before you can even wonder where it is and when it's coming out. I personally love home cooking type food and this location never disappoints. I recommend trying out their breakfast menu and always asking for fresh biscuits. read more

Food: Good old fashion southern country food in generous portions. It's best to stick with traditional menu items when eating at a Cracker Barrel. Although they have some chicken salads and lower calorie items, it's really not their forte you'll be disappointed and it'll slow down food deliver. Their signature menu items are always a good choice for breakfast. If you're ever there for dinner, try the meatloaf. Stick with pan cakes and comfort foods and you'll be pleased. Kudos to Cracker Barrel for their Thanksgiving Feast I'm known as A Food Snob to my friends and family. But not today. Yes, it was a wait 1hr and 45 min. Yes it was zoo. They don't offer a pager, which I found odd. Couldn't hear the page we were in the back couldn't hear it. So my son got out @ 30 min and waited outside I am saddled to a walker. Their was a good Samartain that offered me a sit next to elderly mother. Very atractive. Hair was done by her hairdresser. Full make up. Very nice looking woman. We started a coversation and became friends. She wad abled body. Walked just fine.She offered to help me to the bathroom. Older than me. R name was called so I proceed to the dining room. It was like hell 4 me to get through the crowd. Everyone was respectable and courteous and stepped aside so I could get through.We finally got to our table. Probably waited 5 min before our server showed up. Very patient and friendy. We didn't notice her to say a word @ my slowness. I love to look @ menus so I did that 4 @ 10 min Came back and placed r order. Drinks 1st I had coffee my son had their homemade lemonade. They were always taking the time to make it fresh.They couldn't keep up with the supply and demand. Then we ordered dinner It was all nice portions I had turkey, ham, sweet potato casserole, my side 1 had. My side Mashed tators, dressing and gravy. It came with pie too. Y R choice pumpkin or pecan. Was served with 2 biscuits and 2 cornbread muffins. My son chose the m&c for his side. Then r good arrived. I wad very surprised with the portions sizes. I'm old and have a small appetite. My son on the other hand as a huge appetite. If anybody had OCD @ food touching this is not where y want to go. Everything was touching. Me I could care less. Everything was served hot, fresh and all made from scratch. Only turkey breast was served. That's all I'll eat any way. I hate dark meat. Mashed tators with little tiny lumps. I'm not a fan of sweet potato casserole but this was excellent. I like my SP roasted. Savory style. Even had pecans on it. No marshmallow topping. That was good for me. It came with a glaze with butter and brown sugar. Or it could have been maple syrup. Not sure. The dressing was awesome. Gravy was good. No added salt or pepper didn't have to add salt and peppers. You know what they say @ taters they need lots of salts need to be added. Everything was seasoned well. Loved the biscuits and corn muffins. Everything was delious. Great service, didn't have to wait along time. The only complaint I have to make and it's nothing but something to me. Use to love this place and it's not that I don't like it but came here last weekend and had the worse service and had to keep asking for creamer and more coffee and a refill for others I was sitting with & I asked for bacon to be crispy , I even told her please make sure it's crispy does it come out crispy, nope it was almost raw and she sent it back and it still wasn't crispy so I just gave it to my son ,and the server never apologized and still charged me for something that was their fault ! Like most Cracker Barrels the store is clean and items are displayed tastefully. Though nothing is my personal taste I do enjoy browsing while waiting on a table to become available. The staff is friendly and when I went there they moved pretty quickly so the wait time was short. read more

We just stopped in on our way home from an exhausting business trip. We were seated quickly, the service was good and the food was good but the reason I wanted to leave a review was because when my girlfriend finished eating a waiter took her plate and before he even made it to the kitchen the manager came to our table, introduced himself and said he noticed she only ate half of her food and wanted to make sure she wasn't unhappy with her food. This really impressed me, first that he was assertive enough to notice and second that he came straight to us to ask instead of asking the waiter. I was also impressed by how polite all the staff was to each other. Most places I go now it seems like the employees either hate each other and refuse to help each other or they enjoy each others company so much that they don't have time for the customer. We had a great visit and would highly recommend checking them out. read more

It has been years since I made my way into a cracker barrel, and it is exactly how I remember it. Friends were passing through KC on a trip and this was an easy place to meet up with them. I don't think the menu has changed in over 15 years. Every time I have ever been to a cracker barrel my stomach gets upset and it did 15 years later. On February 9 my husband came to the store number 179 in Independence and picked up two meals my meal was chicken fried chicken which was delicious my husband ordered a double breakfast and he ordered extra gravy for the biscuits which the order taker repeated but did not put on the order so he was unable to enjoy his biscuits and gravy because he was barely served enough gravy for one biscuit. He replaced grits with hash brown casserole for an extra charge but received a very small amount instead of a full serving. Next time I guess we will have to open the bag and check the order carefully before leaving the store read more

We both ordered the Country Boy breakfast, I had a steak which I ordered medium rare. Our food came promptly and I, unfortunately had to send my steak back, too underdone. I always love the atmosphere & service at cb. The food for the most is delicous. There's a few items I've ordered and wasn't completely satisfied. But mainly it's good ol fashioned home cooking, & I love that. I also always order the rasberry lemonade to wash it all down. Fair warning though, it may be too sweet for some. 6 of us went to Cracker Barrel 5 got their meals after 45 minutes and the waiters come out and said it'll be another 15 minutes because the cook forgot to put down the fried chicken and this is on a Saturday at 11 o'clock at 15 minutes to 12 they said another 15 minutes and everybody got their food and was eaten so I said bring me a pancake or something they brought out a single pancake and it was cold so I had to go elsewhere to get my fried chicken i said this place has done us that way four different times and they're not gonna get another chance to won't be back sad. read more

The boyfriend and I do a ton of traveling. Cracker Barrel is a favorite on the road. We are almost never disappointed; we very regularly have decent service and that classic Cracker Barrel food. I wish I could report the same for this location, but our meal here was abysmal. I will preface this by allowing that, yes, we walked in the door at 9:15 -- a mere 45 minutes until closing time. That is likely the primary factor in this dissatisfactory meal. That being said, if that *really is considered an excuse for this dinner, they should list closing time at 9:15 so patrons don't waste their time or money. We waited almost ten minutes to be seated. The register lady called back for a hostess to seat us no fewer than four times. By the fourth time, we could definitely hear the exasperation in her voice. Perhaps the wait staff wanted us to turn around and leave? It felt that way, and we might have, if we hadn't just travelled 9 hours on the road. "Hungry" and "tired" are understatements. When we were finally seated, our waitress was friendly and did not waste time taking our order (hence the two stars.) Unfortunately, they were "out" of the side I wanted with my meal (sweet potato) -- oh well, I ordered a salad and mac n' cheese instead. Boyfriend ordered the 3 entre sampler dinner. Except, when his dinner showed up, it was served without one of the main entres, meatloaf. We were served this way, no explanation, no offer of substitute. We assumed it was coming a little late with one of his missing sides, coleslaw. The coleslaw came out, no meatloaf. When we asked the waitress she said, "Oh, yeah, I think that's because we're out. But maybe I can bring you extra biscuits? Or an extra side? Or dessert?" She had already brought 5 cornbread muffins and 6 biscuits to our table (party of 2) and extra macaroni (as a surprise apology for being out of sweet potato.) I imagine they were trying to get rid of the end-of-shift bread and pasta. I imagine they were trying to close down the kitchen and didn't want to bake fresh meatloaf, or prepare sweet potato, because those two dishes take longer to cook. I imagine the waitress thought we wouldn't notice and that's why she didn't even acknowledge the missing entre until we asked about it. We did not require any more bread or sides; we opted for the blackberry cobbler. You guessed it, the cobbler also sucked. Zero cobbler to it. It was just syrup and berries and melting ice cream -- totally inedible, even for my sweet-tooth boyfriend. We left with a sour taste in our mouth. Literally. In the waitress's defense, I do believe this was more of a kitchen staff issue than a wait staff issue, but truthfully, everyone dropped the ball. Very disappointing Cracker Barrel. I was on vacation and stopped by during Thanksgiving weekend for breakfast. My mom ordered Mama's pancake breakfast. Everything looked good but after a bite of the Turkey bacon my mom got sick. Dan the manager came out and asked what is the problem? My mom explained it was the Turkey bacon that made her sick. Dan told her well ma'am i don't know what to tell you. His attitude was very rude and unaccomodating. Finally after a snug look of disapproval, he said I guess I'll take the food off your bill and walked off. Very rude establishment. If I could give 0 stars I would only 1/2 of our food came out 1 person didn't even get her food. We asked for condiments and her meal and after 5 minutes and 5 of 7 empty glasses I went to find out server. The server got snotty saying we were not the only people there and the one girls food wasn't even on her tray to bring to us or condiments it was the rest of the breakfasts that were ordered. By the time I got my tartar sauce and hubby got his syrup our food was cold manager replaced husbands meal and offered mine but I refused. After all that nothing like a discount or meals removed were done to appease that Our service sucked. Really I refused another fish meal because at 830 I didn't want to wait another 15 minutes or longer for a hot meal at the rate they were going. I had never tried this place until the other day. It is a lot of food but it's well priced. I'd imagine that village inn or ihop would charge WAY more than cracker barrel does. It's delicious and very old fashioned. I enjoyed the sunrise sampler. Our waiter was very nice and worked hard but he had some BO issues....Otherwise I recommend this place. This is one of me and my husband places to eat for breakfast, they are busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait some but the food is plentiful and I always leave with leftovers and my husband is a big guy and leaves food usually gravy, this is the only place he doesn't leave a happy plate at.
