Well I haven't been here for years and they've gotten worse. The picture was my breakfast minus the hash brown casserole which was okay at least I could eat it. The sausage was refrigerator cold, grits tasteless, hash browns too salty for a second bite and the sausage gravy was almost clear liked made with water instead of milk. I went for the lunch buffet and the atmosphere was pleasant but I didn't like some of the food like the tamales and brownies. I did like the fish and the salad fixings were pretty good fresh spinach pickled beats and tomatoes and tasty dressings like blue cheese and ranch. Some of the deserts were pretty good. The carrot cake was good. The Chocolate cake was good. Some food was too salty. The bread rolls were good. The drinks were good. The okra was good. When I was younger my dad use to take me and my family here all the time. Food was always fresh and excellent when the restaurant was in Blue Springs. As soon as they moved to Independence it instantly went down hill and had food that was disgusting and cold, dirty plates, kids playing in the chocolate fountains, staff arguing with customers, etc. Genuinely sad to see this place crumble into what it is now :( read more

Signed up for it online out of Independence, MO. The cashier said that it wasn't good at the Independence location. I asked if we could see the manager. Ok, so where to begin? I brought my two grade school-aged girls with me as a treat for end of their sports season today. They had said they liked buffets when eating with their dad. I'm not a fan, but this was for them. So off to Golden Corral we go, after a volleyball game in Blue Springs. I knew kind of what to expect. I wasn't expecting anything phenomenal. Expectations were low. I'd been as a kid, but most definitely it has changed. First impression: Walked in to a line that was crazy-long-with only ONE cashier while people wound out the doors at 2pm on a Sunday. Do they not anticipate the after-church crowd? Btw, no manager in sight! Poor cashier went as fast as she could alone. Cost: It was WAYYYY too expensive for anyone not eating like a glutton (yet i think it's a surcharge on the rest of us when I was clearly surrounded by people eating 3-6 plates of food to our one each). Our cost (for a small adult female and 2 grade school kids) = $31.23. Yowzas! Food: It is just ok. Basically what I expected. Positives: Guy cleaning up dishes and the hostess were the only 2 bright spots I can think of. Both did their jobs well and with a smile, Lord knows how they do it working there. Saints! Understaffed/Disorganized: The cooks started out alright, but then a woman SAWED the steak "carvings" at the grease-filled-butt of the meat. Never saw a fresh one come out. About 1/3 of the dishes were emptied out and only one person refilling them all, but prob 2 dozen people in the visible part of the kitchen! Dessert: With hot fudge melting my soft-serve ice cream, the one place to find a spoon was out of stock. I flagged a female cook walking by, who then disappeared without a word, and another lady standing right by the ice cream who said the first woman was getting it (in a snotty way!). I finally gave up when the whole thing was soup. It's ok, the ice cream was a little yellow and seemed a little sketchy. Probably saved me from becoming ill. Overall: The place was crowded, stuffy, smelly, filled with people more bizarre than Walmart late at night, and generally turned my appetite to dust. This place is completely disgusting. I met my parents there for lunch recently and lost my appetite after walking in past the cashiers. We were unable to find any seating as tables were uncleaned filled with dirty plates and what areas were clean, were closed off. When we spoke with the cashier/host she found us a table that had the least amount of dishes that she took and didn't even bother to wipe it down which my mom ended up doing. After that experience we headed to the buffet area where we found a man sitting in a chair eating, not even at a table, next to where you get your silverware. The plates look like they are ready to be tossed in favor of new ones. The serving area had utensils left in with the food so that the area you grab was spreading germs throughout the food. The food itself was a mess thrown all over the area. This place is not disability friendly. I am a direct support staff for individuals with disabilities. I am to be with my clients at all times. I brought a client to this restaurant and was told I had to pay for the buffet in order to enter. I explained who and what I was and that I was not there to eat, but to work. The cashier called over a manager. The manager told me that I had to pay "just like everybody else." I explained that it was discrimination to my client to refuse my entry as it would be denying them access to a public entity due to their needs as a person with disabilities. The manager said, "It's not discrimination. Don't use that word around here." I tried to explain that I was no different an accommodation than a service dog would be, and she again told me that if I wanted to come in, I'd have to buy a buffet. When I said I would just pay for a buffet to avoid more of a scene and file a complaint elsewhere, she said, "Good luck. I'm as high as it goes. This is a franchise." It's an all you can eat buffet. You won't like everything, but you will like a lot of their items. The staff is very friendly, and they try hard to keep thing running smooth. This is a kid friendly place, so expect to see them during busy times. Kudos to the staff for trying hard to keep the place clean. But everyone smiles, and the food tastes great. However, last Friday evening will be the last time I visit the establishment in Independence, Missouri.
